Player battling enemies in Monsters are Coming!

Monsters are Coming! takes city-survival and tower defense to the next level with a moving town, and there are plenty of upgrades to use to survive for longer.

Upgrades are typically of two types: Hero and City. There are plenty of options available in both categories. While you can eventually get all upgrades, you'll have to be selective about how you use your resources. This guide will list the best upgrades for your Hero and City after you've just started playing the game.

I have listed the three best choices in each category.

Best Hero upgrades in Monsters are Coming!

Your Hero has different duties during a run. This includes killing enemies, collecting resources, and finding secret spots on the map. Upgrades to your Heroes will enhance their potential. Here are my three best choices.

  • Movement: I like to move a lot with my Hero. Boosting the movement speed will allow your Hero to move quickly on the map. This allows them to pivot more quickly in different directions and engage the enemies. It also allows him to reach more areas of the map faster and gather more resources. I feel it's better to upgrade as much Movement as possible to help your cause.
  • Carrying Capacity: Resources are vital in Monsters are Coming! as you'll be able to build your City quicker. Running to and fro to bring them back is possible, but highly inconvenient. Upgrading the amount of resources you can carry reduces this problem. You miss fewer resources, bring back more, and upgrade your City quicker.
  • Damage: While upgrading Health and Armor are good choices, I prefer investing more in Damage. Monsters are Coming! is a lot more relaxing when it comes to Hero death. Instead, improving the damage potential of your Hero will allow him to kill more enemies and die less. This brings more resources and makes it easier for you to level up your City.

Best City upgrades in Monsters are Coming!

Here are my top three choices for City upgrades.

  • Fortifications: The death of your Hero might not automatically end your run, but your City getting damaged will. It's significantly harder to repair your City, and investing in Fortifications will help it stand tall for longer. While investing in the City's health is also a good choice, I prefer raising the Fortification.
  • Tower Damage: Raising the base damage of your towers will allow you to clear more enemies and prevent them from reaching the City. This modifier also applies to all types of towers, so raising it is one of the best ways to secure survival for a longer time.
  • Attack Speed: I considered including Attack Range on this list, but faster attacks are better. Your City kills enemies quickly and prevents them from doing damage. Having a better range is useful, but your towers will be able to target the monsters anyway when they're close enough. High damage means that the enemies being close doesn't matter too much.
