Save $200 on this massive 49-inch, 240Hz Samsung gaming monitor

Samsung has knocked off $200 from the price of its G95C 49-inch gaming monitor on Amazon, making for a 15% saving on the display's original price. Normally retailing for $1,299, the mammoth monitor is currently just $1,099.

The new Samsung monitor deal gets you a huge screen with an equally massive 5,120 x 1,440 resolution - that's a 32:9 aspect ratio - for a screen that's the same size as two 27-inch 1440p panels sat next to each other. What's more, the panel has a ludicrous 240Hz refresh rate and a nippy 1ms response time.

Starfield. Baldur's Gate 3. Diablo 4. 2023 was certainly a busy year, and I'd imagine everyone's 'to-play' lists are still pretty long right now. But what if I told you that one of the best FPS games of the last decade, and in fact the best FPS since the mighty Doom 2016, was available right now, having launched last June? What if I told you it felt like a modern, hyper-slick version of FEAR, complete with dual wielding, slow motion, and veritable reservoirs of blood? And what if I told you it was on sale for $20? Sounds like the kind of game that everyone should be raving about. But one of the best shooters in recent memory somehow has almost no players on Steam.

Portal fans were eating well for a while. The first game, which introduced portals as a puzzle-solving concept, launched in 2007 to much acclaim and was followed three years later by the equally beloved Portal 2. This expansive sequel added a lengthy co-op mode, new mechanics, and an intriguing continuation of the Aperture Science mystery. Aside from the very brief Peer Review co-op DLC, the excellent Bridge Constructor Portal, and appearances in the likes of Aperture Desk Job for the Steam Deck, there has been little else Portal-wise for us to feast on.

The best capture cards for PC gamers in 2024

Which is the best capture card for PC gamers? Grabbing the right capture card is the best way to ensure a quality live stream, as it translates gameplay into a language better suited for Twitch and YouTube.

While the best graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD can record your PC's gameplay directly, these methods sometimes come with a performance tax that lowers your game's frame rate and makes your stream stutter. Using one of the best capture cards lowers the overhead on your hardware and helps you boost fps. It's also the only way you'll get all the benefits of the best gaming PC when live-streaming from consoles - but choosing the right one can be difficult, and that's why we have these recommendations for you.

Nvidia and Asus just made the ideal mini PC graphics card

Asus has just unveiled the Asus GeForce RTX 4060 LP BRK, a new low-profile version of the Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU that is just half the height of normal cards and uses three teeny tiny fans. This should make it an ideal option for those building a really compact mini PC but who don't want to compromise too much on GPU power.

The new small form factor Nvidia graphics card is the same RTX 4060 we all know and are fairly ambivalent about - it's not exactly the most exciting in terms of performance or value - but instead of the usual full-height (or taller) card with generally a pair of 80-90mm fans, this card is nearly half the height. This of course makes it ideal for a mini PC.

Although it's almost three decades since the 1996 launch of the original Quake, the defining id Software FPS - like its older sibling Doom - is still alive, kicking, and just as wonderful as ever. The recent boomer shooter renaissance, heralded by the likes of Dusk and Turbo Overkill, has helped propel Quake back into the limelight - if you're a barnacled PC gaming veteran, this is a great time for shooters, as the nostalgia for Half-Life, Duke Nukem, and Unreal hits fever pitch.      Terraria and Kerbal Space Program inspire cozy new Steam farming game

Terraria, at least above ground, is the epitome of PC gaming peacefulness. The sun shines. The plants grow. The goal, essentially, is to build for yourself the most serene, rural life possible, albeit occasionally disturbed by nightmarish Lovecraftian demons. But let's take that tranquil, typical Terraria existence and add a little chaos. Inspired by the slapstick, physics-based comedy of building and strategy sim Kerbal Space Program, a new, cozy farming game, available on Steam, feels like Terraria and Stardew Valley, except sometimes the crops explode. Larian CEO Swen Vincke has been reading Ubisoft director of subscriptions Philippe Tremblay's thoughts from yesterday about how players need to "get comfortable" with renting their games as a package, rather than "having and owning" an individual copy. His broad takeaway is: that ain't it, chief. In a social media thread today, Vincke wrote that "it's going to be a lot harder to get good content if subscription becomes the dominant model and a select group gets to decide what goes to market and what not". He feels that "direct from developer to players is the way". As such you shouldn't expect Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity: Original Sin 2 or any other Larian RPGs to join the Game Pass bandwagon anytime soon.

When cute crafting RPG Bandle Tale: A League Of Legends Story was first announced at the end of last year, I don't think I really appreciated the fact it was going to be the next game from the devs behind mortuary farming-me-do Graveyard Keeper. I keep turning this fact over in my head as I watch Lazy Bear Games' associate producer Vlada Redko play a portion of Bandle Tale over Discord for me, with creative director Nikita Kulaga and Riot Forge's creative director Rowan Parker telling me about what's happening onscreen in front of me. As Redko explores the whimsical, knitting-themed city of Bandle as one of League Of Legends' tiny fluffy Yordle creatures, it is, to put it lightly, quite the tonal shift from their previous work. But don't let its cute looks fool you.

This is a crafting RPG with a ferociously long set of skill trees to master, with 40-60 hours' worth of new abilities to learn, objects to construct, errands to run, friends to enlist and - crucially - parties to throw. For in the Bandle woods of Runeterra, life's problems are solved by having a good old fashioned boogie, including the rather urgent issue of fixing the world's portal network, which has collapsed in a mysterious accident. It may have a softer, fluffier-looking surface than Graveyard Keeper, but underneath it looks as though there's just as much to dig into here, so here's what I've learned so far ahead of its release on February 21st.

Developed by apparent Macbeth fans Walking Tree Games GmbH, and published by Starbreeze, it's a heavily horror-themed tribe management sim with a roguelike campaign loop, set in what the developers are calling the "Lovecraftian Stone Age", with flagrant disregard for my nerves. Does the Lovecraftian Stone Age feature any actual walking trees? We'll find out on February 22nd, when the game launches into early access.

I enjoy Games Done Quick, an organisation that raises money for charity (this year is the Prevent Cancer Foundation) by playing games at peak efficiency. If you've never watched it before, I recommend loading up the Twitch stream at about 1am and sort of gently dissociating while someone plays an 80s NES game you've never heard of. Speaking of, one of the headline acts for this year's stream - which is running through to this Sunday 21st - was Peanut Butter, a shiba inu trained to press buttons on command, "playing" a NES game that came out in 1985. Although Peanut Butter obeyed his training, some technical issues colluded to snatch a world best time from him - but he raised many thousands of dollars, so good for him.

Peanut Butter is the latest high tide line in the efforts to put more weird and difficult hurdles between you and the controls of games when speedrunning or streaming them. And I must ask: where next? A cat? A snapping turtle biting pressure sensors? A Grey parrot to play a game without any input from you at all? Where will this madness end!?

What's the most 90s way you can market your retro-styled prequel to a 90s mech shooter? Other than an Acclaim-style stunt where you offer people £500 to tattoo their baby's face with the game logo, I'd say perhaps releasing a Quake mod. So here's Episode Enyo, a prequel to upcoming "biopunk" hack 'n' slasher Slave Zero X, now available as a Bethesda-approved free add-on inside Quake.

Best Yozora Mel Merchandise

Now that Hololive terminated the contract of Yozora Mel, that also means that merchandise for the Vtuber will become limited edition items. The official store will stop selling items on January 31, 2024, and other items from other vendors will likely stop appearing be be discontinued. It's one of those situations where it is best to know what's out there before it becomes impossible to find.

Maybe Check for Yozora Mel Birthday Merchandise?

Whenever a Hololive or Holostars Vtuber celebrates their "birthday," the company sells official merchandise based on them. This is the case for Mel. There were some really cute items in past collections! Mainly because some were sort of practical. The 2022 collection included an Underworld Banquet wine glass and a Mel's Grimoire card holder. Meanwhile, the 2023 collection included a really cool cap with pin that resembles her own. Note that if you ordered the 2023 birthday merchandise, you will still get it between April 2024 and May 2024. However, Hololive is accepting cancellations of it due to the current circumstances.

There's a Yozora Mel Figure!

Despite being a rather established Hololive Japan first generation Vtuber, the array of merchandise doesn't include many official Yozora Mel figures. One of the few items was a Hololive If Relax Time figure by Banpresto. It was a budget-style item that usually cost between $25 and $30 when it released in April 2023, so maybe you could still find it at a relatively affordable price?

Who Knows the Fate of the Yozora Mel Nendoroid

Honestly, who knows what's going to happen with this. One of the last times we saw it was at the Hololive Super Expo 2023 back in March 2023. It only appeared as an unpainted prototype back then. We'll probably get an update on this figure's situation at WonFes 2024 Winter on February 11, 2024. Considering the Uruha Rushia Nendoroid and figma figures were discontinued after her termination, we may never actually end up seeing this piece of Yozora Mel merchandise.

Don't Forget the Yozora Mel Album

Yes, Mel released some music! She had an eight-track album of original songs. Considering what's happened, it might be wise to buy Twinkle Star Magic in the event it is delisted. It costs $12.90 on iTunes and via other storefronts. In the case of other albums that also feature her as a performer, those will still be sold, so you won't have to rush to pick up something like the Hololive x HoneyWorks Holohoneygaoka High School album.

Keep Listening to Yozora Mel with Voice Packs

There aren't many Yozora Mel voice packs still available. But before those get pulled, it might be fun to buy one or two if you're fluent. There are $7 New Year's Holiday Date ones, with one "closing off 2023" and the other "welcoming 2024." She also has $7 Japanese and English Starting Voice packs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwSASVf-0eY

Ace Combat 7 originally released in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Players took on the role of a fighter pilot for the Osean Federation as they battled the Kingdom of Erusea. The Switch version is set to include all the original features of the other versions of the game, including the multiplayer combat modes for 2-8 players. As well as a new trailer for the game, Bandai Namco also released a comparison video, showing the visuals of the Switch version next to the PS4 equivalent. Performance between the two versions appears to be similar, although the Switch visuals are a little downgraded from the original release. The Switch version will release exclusively as a digital title.

The Switch version of Ace Combat 7 will include all DLC released with the game's Season Pass on other systems. This includes a selection of new plane sets and three single player missions: "Unexpected Visitor", "Anchorhead Raid" and "Ten Million Relief Plan". Two additional aircraft and a music player will also be included. Bandai Namco stated that additional DLC that isn't included will be released at a later date. It's unknown if this will include the Top Gun collaboration.

The release of Ace Combat 7 on Switch is the first Nintendo release in the series since 2011. The previous game was Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy for the 3DS, which was a remake of Ace Combat 2. Ace Combat 7 has been a success on other systems, selling a total of 5 million copies.

Honkai Star Rail Dr Ratio Trailer 2

A new in-depth trailer for Dr Ratio has been released for Honkai: Star Rail. In the "With Knowledge Comes Pride" trailer, Owlbert and Screwllum discuss exactly what the new character is capable of.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UdIWoWEwa0

Dr Ratio is an Imaginary damage character on the Path of The Hunt. For his Basic ATK, Mind is Might, he will hit an enemy with his book, causing Imaginary damage. His Skill is Intellectual Midwifery, where he throws a stick of chalk at his enemy and does some calculations. He will also boost his Crit Rate and damage based on how many debuffs the enemy has on them.

Debuffs are also key to Dr Ratio's Talent, which uses a calculation based on number of debuffs to determine whether or not he does a follow-up attack. The more debuffs on a target attacked by a party member, the more likely Dr Ratio will throw a larger piece of chalk at them. He can even follow up his own attacks with this move. A percentage above an enemy's head indicates the chance of him performing the move. His Ultimate, Syllogistic Paradox, also triggers an effect called Wise Man's Folly, which increases this chance to 100%.

Outside of battle, his Technique is Mold of Idolatry. This summons a statue of himself which distracts enemies, lowering their speed once battle is triggered.

Dr Ratio is the star of the latest Honkai: Star Rail banner. However, players do not need to spend much time trying to get him, as he is also dropping into every player's mailbox for the duration of his event. Simply access the in-game mail, and he can be added to your team.

Honkai: Star Rail is out now for PC, PS5 and mobile devices. Dr Ratio is available now through the in-game mail system and the current Panta Rhei banner.
