I clicked the prompt, and there was an explosion of light, accompanied by a triumphant little tune. What dropped was a simple purple Moira recolor, but it felt like I'd won the lottery - it felt like I'd been rewarded. During my entire time with Overwatch I probably only bought three skins maximum, accumulating an entire library of cosmetics using the loot box system and rotating events alone. PCGamesN Tuesday, February 18, 2025 6:54 AM ![]() Trying to find out where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU? Well, we're here to help you with that. We've checked the virtual store shelves of retailers around the world to find where Nvidia's latest mid-range gaming GPU contender can be pre-ordered or where you can set up stock notifications for when the card launches later this year. With the RTX 5070 potentially set to be the best graphics card in its price range, including the supposed ability of the RTX 5070 to offer RTX 4090 performance, it's going to be in high demand. What's more, it may only be available in very limited numbers when the RTX 5070 release date window opens in February 2025. As such, you'll have to be quick to grab one of these new Nvidia cards, especially if you don't want to pay inflated prices from scalpers buying the cards from trusted retailers, only to then resell them on the likes of eBay. The official RTX 5070 price is $549 / $549 CAD / £549 / AU$1,109 for the Founders Edition card, so that's the price you should be hoping to pay for Nvidia's own stylish card. Other cards from the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac might demand more, but that's the ballpark figure you should expect to pay. While RTX 5090 stock and RTX 5080 stock is now available, no RTX 5070 stock is available yet and won't be for a little longer. However, some sites are now starting to show "notify me" services, so you can sign up to know when stock becomes available, and these may eventually switch to pre-order options too. Well, we have some good news as we're updating this guide daily with links to retailers around the world so you can set up your notifications, submit your pre-order, and eventually find stock - at a regular retail price - when the RTX 5070 Ti launches. The Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti is the mid-tier card in the company's new RTX 5000 series GPU lineup. While the RTX 5070 is your entry into the series, and the RTX 5090 is the range-topper, the RTX 5070 Ti could well be the best graphics card choice for those looking to maximize their bang for buck. A notable aspect of the RTX 5070 Ti is that Nvidia won't be producing its own Founders Edition card. As such there isn't an MSRP for that exact card. However, the guide price for stock-speed cards is $749 / $749 CAD / £729 / AU$1,109. These cards will be manufactured by the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac. The RTX 5070 Ti release date window is set for February 2025, but still no stock is available yet. PCGamesN Tuesday, February 18, 2025 6:47 AM ![]() Nvidia has quietly removed support for 32-bit PhysX hardware acceleration in its latest RTX 50 gaming GPUs, such as the Nvidia Geforce RTX 5090. This means games such as Mirror's Edge, Borderlands 2, and Batman: Arkham Asylum no longer have GPU-accelerated support for the impressively complex physics simulations PhysX can provide. With the Nvidia RTX 5090 now the best graphics card you can buy, you'd be forgiven for thinking that as well as supporting brand new features such as DLSS 4, it would also still bring full feature support for old but still popular game features. However, this latest development means any gamers firing up older PhysX-supporting titles will find PhysX calculations being run on the CPU, sometimes resulting in huge performance drops. PCGamesN Tuesday, February 18, 2025 6:09 AM ![]() If you want to find out where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, then you've come to the right place. We're updating this guide daily with links to retailers worldwide so that we can let you know as soon as they get stock on their shelves. The RTX 5080 launch was just over a week ago so many retailers have not yet had time to replenish their stock after the initial influx of orders, but there are some ways to get hold of the card. The Nvidia RTX 5080 is a very popular option for those wanting to upgrade to an RTX 5000 series GPU. That's because, while our RTX 5090 review showed it to be the undisputed new best graphics card, it also offers relatively poor value for $1,999. The RTX 5080, though, is a great choice that offers reasonable value in the grand scheme of things, as we found out in our RTX 5080 review. Because of this expected popularity, and because the entire RTX 5000 series is tipped to be in short supply and high demand, you're going to need to be organized if you want to secure a card for a sensible price soon after launch. With an official price of $999 / $1,449.99 CAD / £979 / AU$2,019 Nvidia's own Founders Edition card is one of the most affordable options. Other cards from the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac might demand more, but sometimes offer lower running temperatures, quieter fans, and more overclocking headroom. The RTX 5080 release date was Thursday, January 30, with the launch time being 9am ET / 6am PT / 2pm GMT. With most stores already sold out, some are operating a "notify me" service, so you can sign up to know when stock becomes available again. You've got a limited number of seats and a bunch of jolly demand-os, and it's your job to make them all happy. "I want to sit with Bob". "I need a window seat". "I forgot to shower". "I do not like bad smells". So you quarantine the nostril bombers in the back of your limo, make sure everyone else is happy, and drive off to the next level. There, you'll take the role of a cinema usher. Some punters want to sit next to someone with popcorn so they can steal it, and some want to wear massive cowboy hats that block those behind them. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, February 18, 2025 6:01 AM ![]() During a recent house clearout I discovered a cache of creative writing from my teenage years. Naturally, I now consider most of it to be unbearable. Reading certain notebooks makes me feel as though my stomach is mounting an upwards assault on my brain. BURN IT, scream the parts of said brain that have learned the perils of starting poems with "O Muse". BURN IT ALL. Nonetheless, I felt bad about being mean towards my adolescent self, so I popped all those misbegotten papers in a giant suitcase. It squats next to me right now as I type these words, like a mausoleum filled with dead albatrosses. Similarly mixed emotions appear to inform Amphora Hell, in which you play an amphora (read: ancient species of vase) with legs. The amphora is the work of the Kilnmaster, a terrible Olympian force who is one part Hephaestus to one part shmup villain. The Kilnmaster has just decided that he hates his amphora with legs and wishes to destroy it with flying hammers. "No evidence of my failure must remain," he bellows in the Itch preamble. Besto Game Team has published a new character teaser trailer for Idol Showdown: Next Fes. It hints that the Japanese Vtuber Hakui Koyori will become a new playable character in the Hololive indie fighting game Idol Showdown.
The brief trailer shows how Koyori appears to remove Tokino Sora from the screen. She can make a plush of her mascot Kokoro cling to the opponent, which will then explode after a short while.
If Hakui Koyori does become a playable character in Idol Showdown, she will be the 12th Vtuber to receive the distinction. As of early February 2025, the game's playable roster comprises Shirakami Fubuki, Inugami Korone, Hoshimachi Suisei, Tokino Sora, Kureiji Ollie, Ninomae Ina'nis, Aki Rosenthal, Nakiri Ayame, Kiryu Coco, Shishiro Botan, and Usada Pekora.
While the game does feature many more Hololive and Holostars Vtubers from Cover's Hololive Production, not all are playable as some of them only appear as collab assists, enemy bosses, or NPCs. For example, when Besto Game Team revealed Ninomae Ina'nis, Ouro Kronii, and Machina x Flayon in April 2024, only Ina'nis appeared as a new playable character. Kronii and Flayon only appeared as enemy bosses, with the latter Holostars Vtuber piloting his mech R-TRUS.
The new teaser trailer is available to view via YouTube:
Besto Game Team has also been regularly updating Idol Showdown with bug fixes in the meantime. On February 16, 2025, it released a v4.3.25 hotfix that addressed a bug that caused an online session host to lag and cause a desync for other spectators.
Idol Showdown: Next Fes is available for free on PC via Steam.

Believe it or not, Nvidia wasn't always the gargantuan AI-chasing douche-bro of the company that it is today. Once upon a time, we had weird, questionably useful technologies such as Nvidia PhysX, which was objectively awesome and no one will convince me otherwise. Sadly, PhysX is on its way out.
Now, to be perfectly clear, it's not like Nvidia PhysX was at all important for the modern gaming industry. Though it did reach reasonable adoption back in the early 2010s, it's been effectively defunct for the longest time. The most prolific games to adopt PhysX in its heyday were Borderlands 2 (as featured in the video below), Fallout 4, and Batman: Arkham Knight. And, to be sure, PhysX really was little more than a fancy visual flourish at the best of times. Still, it saddens me to report that Nvidia RTX 5000 graphics cards no longer support a massive number of PhysX-enabled features. That's because Nvidia has silently removed support for 32-bit PhsyX from the new graphics processors.
Nvidia RTX 5000 no longer supports PhysX, will happily tank your frame rate instead
What this means in a practical sense is that if you own an RTX 5000 GPU and wish to enable PhysX effects in, say, Borderlands 2, you should prepare for a proper slide show. Not that PhysX was ever particularly performant, of course, but RTX 5000 cards now have to offload all PhysX calculations onto the CPU, leading to a framerate resembling a slide show.
Honestly, even though PhysX always felt more like a tech demo than anything else, it genuinely did appear transformative in some situations. Was it worth enabling, considering the performance drop? Not at all, no, but gosh darn did it look neat. Between Borderlands 2's wonky and unoptimized "fluid" effects and Fallout 4's forever-broken PhysX clutter, it's a big shame that Nvidia never did anything meaningful with the tech. Now we know for sure, though, that it never will.
The silver lining in this entire situation is that 64-bit PhysX is still supported, even on RTX 5000 GPUs. It's just that you won't find all that many 64-bit games leveraging the tech in the first place. The prime example (and arguably PhysX's best showpiece, bar none) of the tech in action is Batman: Arkham Knight, where PhysX runs the frankly phenomenal volumetric fog, clutter simulation, cloth simulation, and a few other tidbits. Note that it's not a cheap effect to have running, even on halo-tier graphics cards.
In other physics-related news, even though Nvidia PhysX is now officially dead and gone, Havok isn't! The company behind one of the most ubiquitous physics engines of all time recently pushed out a fancy new destruction trailer. It might not materialize into anything serious anytime soon, but just knowing that Havok is still pushing the envelope somewhere in the background sure does make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

The power level of Abilities in Volleyball Legends isn't determined by rarity. Common Abilities can sometimes be just as good as Legendaries or better in specific situations. I'll rank them all based on power and for each position. Here's my complete Volleyball Legends Abilities tier list.
Table of contents
All Volleyball Legends Abilities Ranked

I'll be rating Volleyball Legends abilities from S-Tier to C-Tier where S is universally powerful and C Tier is underpowered and probably a reroll. The A and B Tiers are usually abilities that are either excellent for specific uses or just lack that extra OOMPH to be ranked higher. Once we're done with rating all abilities I'll also rate them by specific position for different uses.

The network test for Elden Ring: Nightreign is behind us, and we got our first look at FromSoftware's mashup of almost half a dozen genres. It's a fun, manic, and frankly absurd experience that shouldn't work as well as it does. I cannot wait to see the full product.
Shattered, rebuilt with gold
![]()
Defining Nightreign's genre is like trying to describe one of Elden Ring's eldrich horrors to someone outside its community. Nigh on impossible, in other words.
What do you call this unholy mishmash of genres, gameplay styles, and mechanics? Elden Ring: Nightreign is what. Like the Souls games that act as its foundation, Nightreign stands alone, though this time, it defies description for its unthinkable marriage of systems. That marriage, I might add, has no right to work as well as it does nor to be as fun as it is.
When you first dive into a Nightreign match, you pick one of eight characters, four of which we got to try in the network test. You and two other players then load into a randomly generated map and explore, fighting bosses, looting ruins and dungeons, and collecting loot and character upgrades. After about ten minutes, a circle of blue fire and rain appears, shrinking the play area to about half. You can continue exploring until 15 minutes into the match, at which point you must retreat underneath a great, shining tree for safety.
That safety is quickly shattered by a more challenging boss fight that tests your character's upgrades, your familiarity with your character, and your team's skills. Win, and you've completed the first of three Days. Day two follows the same pattern as Day one: explore, loot, craft a build, then prepare for the circle to close in again. Find victory over the second boss to earn the right to challenge that run's main foe.
![]()
The weapons and upgrades you find on the Nightreign map mostly come from Elden Ring, but the Day bosses hail from as far back as the original Dark Souls and will include both Dark Souls 2 and 3 bosses on full release.
As you might have gathered, it's hard to properly describe Nightreign in the space of a few paragraphs. But probably the weirdest thing about the game, besides everything else, is fighting bosses like the Centipede Demon from Dark Souls 1 with the speed and mechanical refinement of Elden Ring. Hearing the old soundtracks adds to the disconnect.
Yet, every second I wasn't playing Elden Ring: Nightreign, I was thinking about playing Nightreign. We had three hours per session, and I would be lying if I said I didn't lose sleep trying to make the early morning tests. It was the same feeling I and many others felt about their first, second, and third Souls games. I wanted to discover other world bosses, uncover whatever secrets existed in the limited environment, and what kinds of crazy builds I could make in the forty-minute matches.
Teamwork and the dream working
![]()
I've never been one for co-op in Souls games. I find the challenge and satisfaction of victory too intoxicating to sully with other players I might not be able to count on. Not so in Nightreign. Sure, the enemy AI is as janky as it is in Elden Ring and other FromSoftware titles, but teamwork is at the heart of this new title.
Going off and doing your own thing in Nightreign will cost you far more than playing with your teammates. Bosses are usually too tanky to handle by yourself, especially early into a round. Defeating a boss generates a reward for the whole party, and if you and your teammates are spread across the map, you will miss at least a few of these valuable upgrades. Your teammates can also pick you up if you're knocked down, but not if they're in a castle and you're in a mine, deep underground.
You lose a hard-earned level for dying rather than being revived, and you start the game with maybe two or three hits worth of health. Even a single level is a massive buff to all of your stats, and because the match is on a strict timer, you might not be able to make up the XP you need to reclaim the level. That alone is incentive to try and stay with your teammates, if only so they don't get as much in your way as they might otherwise.
A class of their own
![]()
That's saying nothing about the synergy you can have between each character. The four we got to try in the network test were:
Each character had a Skill (see Wylder's grapple or Dutchess's damage Rewind) and an Ultimate (the explosive punch or the invisibility). Skills were on a much shorter cooldown than Ultimates, so using your Skill liberally was encouraged, and smart Ultimate usage was just as important.
Every character's abilities were satisfying and fun to use. Wylder is the most straightforward and new-player-friendly, with Recluse requiring much more technical acumen to be effective. I tried every character except Recluse, and they all felt amazing. Wylder was the most familiar, but my favorite was Dutchess, thanks to her speed and obvious Bloodborne influence. Her opportunities for teamplay were some of the best as well because one well-timed Skill or Ultimate could completely turn the tide of an otherwise helpless fight.
A Rogue in the Mix
![]()
The rogue-lite elements of Elden Ring: Nightreign weren't fully fleshed out in the network test. We couldn't spend post-match currency, nor could we customize what types of buffs our characters could equip. The map's procedural generation was also heavily reduced, but I could always create unique builds each run.
Every boss or major challenge you complete during a match awards either a weapon, ability, or buff, and you need to quickly decide what kind of setup you're going for. Like base Elden Ring, Frostbite and Bleed builds are frighteningly powerful and, when properly built, can all but trivialize even the end boss.
Nightreign also doesn't care about PvE balance too much. Want to apply Bleed, Poison, Frostbite, and Scarlet Rot? Go for it. Want a larger health bar than is possible in base Elden Ring? You can do that, too. There are technically some limitations to what you can do, but so long as you work within those generous restrictions, you can do a lot with builds in the game.
The hard cap on things is the weapon selection: you can only use a selection of weapons and abilities that were available in base Elden Ring. None of the classics from the Dark Souls series make a return the same way the bosses do. Or at least they didn't in the network test. That's not a huge gripe, as there are a ton of fun Elden Ring weapons, but having a Black Knight Halberd, Ornstein's Spear, or something like Gael's Greatsword would be amazing to have in the pool.
Concerns: I have a few
![]()
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Elden Ring: Nightreign network test, but a few things concern me. First among them is actually a question: who does this game appeal to?
Nightreign's gameplay mashes up so many genres onto the Elden Ring core that I worry its wider appeal gets lost in the shuffle. For many players, I'd assume, the measured, curated experience of exploring a Souls world, discovering its mysteries, and slowly conquering its challenges is the main draw. Nightreign eschews almost all that in favor of quick in-and-out matches, where exploration is a means to an end, not a main point of enjoyment.
Souls purists, then, might not enjoy the game for its drastically altered pacing. Newcomers have another problem. Learning the bosses is at the heart of enjoying a Souls game. Repeated failure with minimal downtime between attempts lets you experiment with different strategies and builds until you land on a setup that works. Nightreign throws you into a wide world where those same bosses will kill you in a few hits, but your time between facing them could be minutes or hours. The previously fine-tuned learning curve gets thrown to the shredder.
So players new to taking on Souls bosses might find losing to them a turn-off. Both of them might also be deterred by the rogue-lite elements. You will be underpowered at the start of every run, and if you don't quickly learn where to find the best upgrades, it's infinitely more challenging to make a build that's worth a damn.
Perhaps worst of all, Nightreign demands that all players pull at least some of their weight. If you don't have a dedicated team of friends who know their way around the game, or you've depended on those friends to carry you through Elden Ring's harder content, Nightreign might be a hard sell. Based on my network test experience, it is possible to hard-carry a set of clueless teammates, but you probably aren't going to outlevel the content nearly as much as you would in a more traditional RPG.
For veteran Souls-heads like me who also love rogue-likes, fast-paced action, and more than a bit of chaos to their gaming experience, Nightreign is an absolute treat. I worry it's doing so many things at once that it stands to alienate the people it needs to succeed.
I am, of course, probably overthinking it. Dark Souls was always a niche series, but still sold millions of copies. Moreover, it enabled FromSoftware to create one of the most popular games of the last decade by mashing together two genres I thought were incompatible: Souls and a truly open world. There is no other studio I trust more to experiment and succeed with flying colors. And if the network test is any indication, Elden Ring: Nightreign will be yet another entry in FromSoftware's list of defining masterpieces.

In Verse Piece, a tiny advantage in damage or HP can be the deciding factor in a close PvP fight. And in PvE, more damage means a faster grinding experience. The final step to really maxing out your stats in Verse Piece is limitbreaking them. So, we prepared the following guide on how to farm Limitbreak Stones and limitbreak stats in Verse Piece to help you out.
How Does Limitbreaking Stats Work in Verse Piece?
When you limitbreak your stats in Verse Piece, you don't increase their maximum cap or get more stats. Instead, you increase the damage and HP scaling you get from the stats you currently have. You can see how far you have limitbroken your stats by the grades in the stats menu. From best to worst, grades are A, B+, B, C+, C, and D.
When you limitbreak your stats to the max (A grade), you will have around 8-10% more DPS and HP. When I did the testing for those numbers, I used the following:
Hot to Limitbreak Stats in Verse Piece
![]()
To Limitbreak your Stats in Verse Piece, use a Limitbreak Stone from your inventory and select which stat you want to enhance. In total, you will need 20 Limitbreak Stones to max out all of your stats fully. However, your limitbreak priority order should be Sword, Special, Defense, and Combat last. Also, you can't limitbreak a stat above the A grade, so don't worry about wasting your LBS.
How to Farm Limitbreak Stones in Verse Piece
You can get Limitbreak Stones through three different methods: trading, fishing, and opening chests. Exotic chests have the best chance of containing a Limitbreak Stone, and you can get them by completing limited Verse Piece dungeons. Fishing is the best way to farm Limitbreak Stones in the long run. So, make sure to check out our Verse Piece fishing guide and start farming some LBS right away.
If you want to get some Limitbreak Stones in exchange for some other materials you don't need, you can always trade them with other players. To browse the offers of other players, visit the Verse Piece Discord server and search the #trading channel for LBS.
That concludes our guide on how to get Limitbreak Stones and limitbreak your stats in Verse Piece. If you are looking to use the full potential of your stats in Verse Piece, then check out our guides on how to get Sung Jin Woo, Cid V2, and Toji V2 swords.

Looking for all WooHoo locations in The Sims 2? Like its successors, The Sims 2 has a fairly extensive list of WooHoo spots for adventurous Sims looking for a dalliance. Here are all WooHoo locations in The Sims 2 included in both the base game and subsequent expansions.
WooHoo spots in The Sims 2
There are a total of 11 WooHoo locations in The Sims 2, depending on which expansion packs you have installed. These are:
How to WooHoo in The Sims 2
![]()
Encouraging your Sims to WooHoo in The Sims 2 is not as easy as you may initially think, especially if you're used to The Sims 4 system. Whilst it is possible to romance a Sim without being in an exclusive relationship or in the same household, in most cases you'll need to select the 'Ask to Join' interaction to get your Sims aligned before commencing WooHoo. Here are a few systems and common issues to consider when tackling relationships in The Sims 2.
Friendship levels
Only Elders and Adult Sims can WooHoo and they must have at least 70% of their friendship bar filled with their love interest. When checking your friendship level with a Sim, navigate to the relationships panel (the symbol of two joined people to the right of the wants and fears section). Under the Sim's profile icon, there will be two bars. The first bar shows your friendship level for the day, the bar below is much more important as it shows your overall friendship level based on historic interactions. Raise the lower bar to at least 70 before issuing any 'Flirt' commands.
Chemistry
It's not enough to just be close with your love interest in The Sims 2, you must also flirt! If you have the Sims 2: Nightlife expansion installed, you'll have access to a chemistry system. Sims that have a high chemistry with each other will naturally build up flirtation much faster, whereas Sims with a low chemistry will be more of a slow burn. You can check your Sim's compatibility with others by asking probing questions such as their Zodiac signs or their 'turn-ons' and 'turn-offs'. Certain Zodiac signs will gravitate towards each other and you'll unlock more flirtatious interactions faster.
You can WooHoo as many Sims as you like but be warned - if you're significant other catches you in the act they will gain the 'Furious' condition and your relationship meter will take a heavy loss.
Common issues
If your Sims are romantically involved and you're not receiving the 'WooHoo' option, the most common cause is usually due to your Sims being in a bad mood. Pay particular attention to their energy and hygiene levels as Sims will usually forgo WooHoo if these are in a poor state. Look after your Sims and try again once everyone is happy.
If you're enjoying The Sims 2 but wish to spice up your gameplay, see our list of the best Sims 2 mods to try in 2025.

The Sims feels like a series that has been around forever. The original title was released 25 years ago, with a sequel arriving four years down the line. Those two games are now older than some people playing Sims 4 in 2025.
But is there any reason to go back to the original titles this year?
The original Sims was a precursor to modern cozy games
Today, the concept of "cozy games" is everywhere. It's safe to say that at this point, it's more than just a fad. With our current society filled with terrible news pretty much daily, sometimes the only escape is a comforting virtual environment. And it is my opinion that the original The Sims, today, is as great an escape as any.
![]()
Some feel like the original game was way harder than any of the sequels, and they would be correct. That's because players try to reach the top as fast as possible. Instead, The Sims is meant to be taken lightly and one step at a time, just like real life. Sure, you could rush your way by spamming the "rosebud" cheat as many times as you need to, but that approach lacks satisfaction.
The first game was originally planned by Maxis and Will Wright to be a virtual doll house, a game focused more on designing houses and filling them with stuff, rather than managing lives. It also took almost ten years of development to arrive at its finished version, since Maxis had been doing quite badly financially before being taken over by Electronic Arts.
![]()
Wright just wanted to be left alone to finish his original vision, but instead, he was asked to work on other games such as SimCopter (incidentally, this is where simlish, the language of the Sims, first debuted). Finally, after 1997, he was given the team and the resources he needed to finish the game, which evolved to a strict focus simulation, while incorporating satirical elements of US consumeristic culture, easily noticeable in the description of the items.
The overall satire and light political discourse of the original The Sims was also lost in subsequent sequels, along with the franchise becoming a huge juggernaut that couldn't touch such topics with a ten-foot pole.
So, if you are ready to embrace the original pungent and spicy flavor of The Sims, then you might be ready to spend hours in its mechanics and unique gameplay. Thanks to the relaxing piano music in the background, designing your favorite house almost feels like a light vaporwave dream. Then you could continue building your dream pool (don't forget the ladder!) or, well, strategically planning the furniture of your poor Sim house.
Does he really need a bed?
The Sims 2 brings a more focused kind of gameplay
After many expansion packs for the original game, finally, in 2004 Maxis released the long-awaited sequel to The Sims. While Wright was long gone by this point and working on something else entirely, the team was still there and they delivered exactly what Sims 2 was supposed to be: a bigger and better kind of life sim.
![]()
Along with using a fully 3D engine for easier control and management of your Sims, you have many new features right from the get-go, without the game being crushed by the weight of its new ideas and mechanics. You can even age up in the sequel, something that was missing from the original. It is definitely not an accident that the sequel sold one million copies in ten days, a feat never seen before 2004.
It was also the first game to take the series into a new and quite strange direction since I am pretty sure there has never been a video game where a male character can get pregnant after being abducted by aliens. Your male sim then goes on to birth a half-alien child. Fun stuff.
![]()
Not only do genetics now play a part in the children of your Sims, but each Sim has aspirations in life. Babies do not simply take on genetic characteristics of their parents, but also personality traits where, in the first Sims, it would be a random throw of the dice.
The game also offers a more varied experience. While you still can't follow your Sim to work, you can take them on a night out without having to buy more expansions. The new cutscenes also added a whole new narrative subtext which was missing in the original.
The sequel lacks some of the political commentary and simplicity of the original. But it makes up for it with tons of new features that players of The Sims 4 will recognize and likely appreciate.
Is it only about nostalgia?
Overall, The Sims is one of the most successful gaming series of all time, and going back to play the original games can be considered an interesting dive into history.
![]()
The original games showcase a simplicity that any of the sequels, and especially the fourth entry, have left behind. The original title feels almost like a walk in the park in autumn. Everything is slow, relaxed, perhaps even frustratingly so at times, but that is the beauty of it.
We can finally play both original games without much hassle on modern devices, so there is no reason not to go back and discover what the Goths and the Newbies were really up to. Who knows, they might even fill a hole in your heart you didn't know was there.

Fishing minigames are becoming a ubiquitous addition to almost every genre. Now Zenless Zone Zero has one with the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship, one of the more rewarding mid-update events the game's yet seen. Here's how to complete every part of the event.
How to Start the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship
![]()
If you're a newer player to Zenless Zone Zero, it will take you at least a few days to unlock access to the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship. To access the event, you need to be at Inter-Knot level 23 and have completed Chapter 2 - Intermission. Getting at least that far will see you introduced to Qingyi of Public Security.
Reaching Inter-Knot level 23 requires you to get through several level gates at earlier Inter-Knot levels, a process that's liable to take at least a couple of real-world days. That's not counting the length of the story missions themselves, which add at least a dozen hours or so of content to experience.
Once you've met the prerequisites, starting the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship is easy. Head to the noodle shop on Sixth Street and meet with Qingyi nearby. She'll kindly "request" the Phaethon twins' presence at the fishing competition, and you can head there immediately or whenever is convenient for you.
Qingyi will be near the docks once the time comes. She'll introduce you to the staff running the competition and her ulterior motive for coming: catching art thieves moving stolen goods by sea.
Of course, you're there to help and enjoy some fun fishing times while you're at it.
How to Fish in the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship
![]()
The fishing mechanics in Zenless Zone Zero are pretty straightforward. The process works as follows:
Mash or hold enough to deplete the fish's Stamina gauge at the top of the screen. The more blue than orange is on the gauge, the closer you are to catching the fish. Should you not press the button correctly, the fish will gain some more gauge back, but once the bar is completely blue, you'll catch the fish.
Additional mechanics become available as you progress through the main story. They include:
As you gain Angler Points by completing the story and side content in the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship, you'll get additional buffs to your fishing ability, between the amount of ATK power you can field against the fish to increasing your stamina so you can reel in longer.
How to Complete the Ridu Fishing Festival Commission
![]()
The main story quest of the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship is spread across three commissions: Ridu Fishing Festival, Trush Beneath the Water, and Elpis Ultimate Angler. While fishing is central to completing it, Hollow exploration and combat are just as important. After speaking to Qingyi at Port Elpis, you'll receive a brief tutorial on fishing; then, you need to participate in an introductory match to officially enter the competition.
Specifically, you need to place in the top three competitors to advance. In my run, I needed to catch two fish within the time limit to top the leaderboard. I would still have placed second or third with just one fish, though. You're automatically placed at the top of your current score bracket whenever you get a point during the competition. If the top competitor has one point and then you score a point, you'll be placed ahead of them, and so on.
![]()
After competing in the pre-tournament match, you'll need to delve into a Hollow for some combat challenges. You can bring whatever team works best for you, and if you don't already have her, Qingyi is also available as a trial character. The order of operations in the Hollow is as follows:
After all that is done, you can head back to Port Elpis and begin the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship in earnest. Then, you can start doing the side stories called Port Anecdotes.
How to Complete the Truth Beneath the Water
![]()
Once you complete the first part of the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship story quest, wait an in-game day and return to Port Elpis, where you'll chat with Qingyi again. The official tournament qualifiers are here, and they're a two-round, two-person team affair. You and Qingyi will work together, and you need to be in the top two teams to advance.
In my experience, Qingyi only nets one or two fish for either 90-second round, so you'll still be doing the bulk of the work. Winning the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship qualifiers is more of the same as the show match at the beginning of the story quest. Follow these tips, and you should be golden:
There is a brief narrative intermission between the first and second rounds, with some drama about a fish disruptor in the water. As far as how many fish you need to catch, my toughest opponents in both matches only caught no more than three fish, so the minimum you should shoot for is three of your own.
After the qualifiers, you'll be headed back into a Hollow for more investigation. The steps to complete the delve are as follows:
![]()
How to Complete the Signal Lights Challenge
![]()
The signal lights puzzle is very straightforward. You'll see a small traffic signal with three colored lights near a console with colored squares that alternate between those three colors.
Your job is to interact with the console when it flashes on the proper color. This first challenge asks for green, then blue, then blue again. The second challenge, a bit later in the mission, asks for green, then blue, then yellow.
Once you solve the first signal light challenge, a yellow cargo container containing an objective crate and another Mini Cargo Truck will roll in. Interact with both, and then head through the spatial fissure behind you. In the new area:
![]()
With the final box collected, you'll head back to Port Elpis. Speak to all the characters, and last with Qingyi to prepare for the next and final chapter.
How to Complete Elpis Ultimate Angler
![]()
The time has come for the last two rounds of the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship and the final Hollow investigation. Speak to Qingyi when you're ready for the semifinals.
Winning the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship semifinals follows the same formula as the previous stages. The competition is slightly fiercer, and you must take first place to advance. In my winning run of the tournament, my opponent's highest score was two fish to my five. As before, you win in case of a tie, so if your closest competition only has two fish, you only need two to win. You should still try for at least one more than second place just to be safe.
After winning the semifinals, you'll be going after the art thieves in the Hollow. Here's the full step list:
![]()
Back at Port Elpis, speak to McDunn, then President Qi to leave for the reef island, where you'll need to fish a submarine out of the water. There's no special mechanics here. Mechanically, it's just a regular fish.
![]()
Catching the sub ends the narrative portion of the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship and queues up the finals. Like the semis before them, the finals are functionally identical to the other rounds of the tournament, with a few exceptions.
Once you've won, speak to Qingyi and McDunn one last time to finish the event's main story quest. If you haven't already caught all the fish or done all the Port Anecdote side activities, now's the time.
How to Complete All Port Anecdotes in the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship
There are 15 Port Anecdotes to complete during the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship, five per phase. Most of them only take two or three minutes to complete, and you'll want to for a couple of reasons. First, they award Angler Points, which increase your Fishing Permit, earning you additional rewards and buffs to your fishing prowess. Second, you'll need to complete nine of them to get all the limited-time Polychrome rewards for the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship event.
Phase One Port Anecdotes
![]()
The Phase One Port Anecdotes are mostly relatively quick, save the first one, Aristocratic Delicacy, which sees you delving into a Hollow to dispose of some questionable cooking.
How to Complete Aristocratic Delicacy
The longest of the five phase one Port Anecdotes, this one sees you doing a favor for Victoria Housekeeping's Rina and Lycaon. The steps are:
After speaking with Soukaku, Lycaon, and Rina, you'll complete the Anecdote.
How to Complete The Master's Concerns (I)
You'll unlock your next two Anecdotes once you complete Aristocratic Delicacy. The Master's Concerns part one sees you helping the Eous and Amillion Bangboo with their photography skills. You only need to take one picture after talking to President Qi near the bench by the fry stand.
Snap a pic of the yellow fishing festival flags to the right of the event billboard. Return to Qi with the picture to complete the Anecdote.
How to Complete One Denny Friendship
Meet with One-Dennyboo and Soldier 11 to the left of the fry stand. The little Bangboo is having a party and needs you to catch one fish to complete the meal. Once caught, speak to the pair again, then head to Sixth Street. Go behind the concrete pipes near the 24-hour store to join the party: One-Dennyboo and his feline friends.
Once the party's over, the Anecdote is too.
How to Complete Aquatic Delicacy
Unlocked after completing three Port Anecdotes, Aquatic Delicacy is another fishing mission. First, head to the far side of the docks to meet Coach Explorey and his student Rocketz. Speak to them a moment, then head down the longer dock and catch a single fish to complete the Anecdote.
How to Complete Intense Competition
For this Anecdote, visit Eddite on the dock near the purple-clothed fisher. He asks you to visit Ben, who's hanging around nearby, and they will request a friendly fishing competition. Place first or second to advance, which took a minimum of two fish in my run. Once the match is over, speak to Eddie and Ben again to complete the Anecdote.
Those are all the Anecdotes we've completed so far, but we'll update this article shortly with the remainder!
How to Catch All Fish in the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship
![]()
There are 17 regular fish and nine Bonus Discoveries to find by fishing in the Elpis Ultimate Angler Championship. The regular fish come in four varieties, ranging from one to four stars. The star ranking is based on weight, and at the time of writing, the weight of the fish is random for each one you catch. The fourth star is also unique to the Rare Subspecies, so you need to catch a golden version of that fish to get it.
In short, be prepared to grind if you want all 68 possible stars.
All Aquarium Fish and How to Get Them
We've found 11 of the 17 available fish, but we'll update the article as we find more!

Race is one of the most important characteristics of your character in Verse Piece. A testament to that is the fact that Race Rerolls are used as an intermediary currency when trading. Some races in Verse Piece are so powerful that they make you invulnerable in PvP. With all that in mind, we prepared the following Verse Piece race tier list to help you out when rerolling.
Verse Piece Race Tier List
![]()
The above tier list ranks each race in Verse Piece based on how strong it is overall, both in PvE and PvP. In general, Exotic races are just way stronger than all others, with very few exceptions. Contractor is the strongest race in Verse Piece overall, with Dragonic being very close behind. Shadow is the best race for PvP simply because it makes you immune to other players' damage.
List of All Verse Piece Races
Here is a list of all races in Verse Piece, sorted by their rank on the tier list, along with the bonuses they give you. The percentages next to their rarities show the odds of getting a specific race when using Race Rerolls.
How do Races Work in Verse Piece
![]()
Races in Verse Piece give you specific passive bonuses just like traits do. Races don't increase your stats, but they can multiply your damage and give you some unique buffs. For example, the Vampire race lets you lifesteal health back when dealing damage. Also, rerolling your race is a lot more difficult because you need Race Rerolls to do that.
How to Reroll Races
You can reroll your race by using Race Reroll materials from your inventory. When rerolling, you will have to confirm if you want to reroll a Legendary, Mythical, or Exotic race. You can get Race Rerolls either by opening chests, fishing, trading, buying them from the Adventure Shop NPC, or by redeeming Verse Piece codes.
How to Store Races
![]()
To store your race in Verse Piece, you will first need to expand your race storage. For this, you will need a Race Storage material, which can be obtained in the same way as Race Rerolls. With at least one unlocked slot in your race storage, you can then click on the race in your inventory to switch it out with the race currently on you.
Verse Piece Race Progression
In the beginning, try to get either Reaper or Arrancar so that you can improve the damage of your Sword and Fruit. Once you get a bit more Race Rerolls, try to get either Demonic, Vessel, or Vampire. If you are lucky early, or if you start obtaining more and more Race Rerolls, try to aim either for Contractor, Shadow, or Dragonic, as they are the best races in Verse Piece.
That concludes our Verse Piece race guide and tier list. If you want to check out more of our VP content, then visit the Verse Piece section of Destructoid.

Swords in Verse Piece are your best damage option in the late game. However, some swords are straight out better than others. One of those swords is Cid V2, and what's even better is that grinding for it is very straightforward. So, if you want to know how to get the Cid V2 sword in Verse Piece, follow our guide below.
Table of Contents
What is the Cid V2 Sword in Verse Piece
The Cid V2 sword is one of the most powerful swords you can have in Verse Piece. Overall, Cid V2's kit has more damage than both Sung Jin Woo and Toji V2, but its M1s deal slightly less damage. Another thing with Cid V2 is that its V and F moves have very long animations. Still, Cid V2 is the easiest to get meta sword in Verse Piece because of how easy it is to clear the Shadow Castle Dungeon.
How to Get Cid V2 Sword in Verse Piece
![]()
In Verse Piece, you can get the Cid V2 sword by interacting with the Cid's NPC at the top of the clock tower in Frost Town. However, you will need the following materials to obtain it: Cid V1 sword, 10k Gems, 2 Cid's Eyes, Shadow King trait, and the Shadow Garden title. Gems are most easily farmed by defeating bosses in the Verse Piece Dungeons. For each of the other materials needed for Cid V2, we dedicated a separate section further in the guide.
How to Farm Shadow Fragments
![]()
![]()
![]()
Shadow Fragments in Verse Piece drop from enemies inside the Shadow Castle Dungeon. However, you get a lot more Shadow Fragments per run when clearing the Shadow Castle Dungeon on the Hard difficulty. On average, you will get around 300 Shadow Fragments per run, which takes around a minute to complete. At that rate, you can purchase most of the Cid V2 components in around half an hour of grinding the Verse Piece Shadow Castle Dungeon.
How to Get the Cid V1 Sword
![]()
There are two ways to get the Cid V1 sword in Verse Piece. First is by purchasing Cid V1 from the Event Exchange NPC on Starter Island for 1000 Shadow Fragments. The other way is to hope to get it from the Cid Boss in the Shadow Castle Dungeon. However, the odds of that happening are only 1%. On average, it takes four Shadow Castle Dungeon runs on hard difficulty to get enough Shadow Fragments and buy Cid V1 without having to rely on luck.
How to Grind for Cid's Eyes
Similar to the Cid V1 sword, Cid's Eyes can drop from the Cid Boss in Shadow Castle Dungeon on Hard difficulty. However, it is better to purchase Cid's Eyes at the same Event Exchange NPC for 2500 Shadow Fragments. Keep in mind that you need two Cid's Eyes for the Cid V2 sword in Verse Piece, and the maximum amount of Shadow Fragments you can have at a time is 2500. So, you will have to leave the dungeon to purchase one Eye and then continue to grind for another.
Rerolling the Shadow King Trait
![]()
The Shadow King trait can be obtained by rerolling your traits at the Trait Reroll NPC in Frost Town. However, keep in mind that the Shadow King trait is an Exotic trait in Verse Piece, which means you only have a 0.025% chance to get it. For that, you will need a lot of Gems potentially, so make sure to either sell your excess materials at the Adventure Shop or farm some Boss Rush dungeons.
Obtaining the Shadow Garden Title
![]()
To get the Shadow Garden title in Verse Piece, complete the Shadow Castle Dungeon 10 times on the Hard difficulty. You shouldn't try to aim for this title, as you will get it simply by farming for the Cid V1 sword and the Cid's Eyes. Also, you don't need to equip the title before heading to the Cid's NPC and claiming the Cid V2 sword in Verse Piece.
How to Upgrade the Cid V2 Sword in Verse Piece
![]()
You can upgrade the Cid V2 sword in Verse Piece by talking to the Blacksmith NPC on Blacksmith Isle. Each upgrade has a 10% chance of success, and it costs you one Enhance Stone to try your luck with it. On average, you need around 50 Enhance Stones to upgrade Cid V2 fully. Enhance Stones drop from any chest in Verse Piece. However, the best way to farm Enhance Stones is by fishing.
That sums up everything you need to know on how to get the Cid V2 sword in Verse Piece. If you are looking to really round out your build in the late game, then check out our Verse Piece race and trait passives guides.

Traits are one of the essential parts of your character progression in Verse Piece. Traits boost your damage and increase your stats, while some allow you to unlock weapons that make leveling a breeze. Find out which traits to go for when rerolling with our Verse Piece traits guide down below!
Verse Piece Trait Tier List
![]()
The above tier list ranks all Verse Piece traits from best to worst based on how much they increase your damage and stats overall. In general, higher damage multiplier values give you more DPS than flat Special and Sword stat bonuses. Defense stat bonuses are exponentially stronger if you pair them up with a race such as Half Cyborg.
How do Traits Work in Verse Piece?
In Verse Piece, traits multiply your damage no matter what Weapon, Spec, or Fruit you are using. This increase in damage becomes much more noticeable when you boost them with the right trait passives. Most traits in Verse Piece increase your stats as well. Some traits give you titles, like the Honored One, while others, such as Zenin and Heavenly Restriction, are used to acquire Maki and Toji weapons.
Complete Verse Piece Traits List
How to Get Traits in Verse Piece
![]()
You can reroll traits in Verse Piece by paying five gems to the Traits Reroll NPC. You can find them on the Frost Town island. There is a safety feature when rerolling that requires you to confirm if you want to reroll Legendary, Mythic, or Exotic traits, so reroll without worries. You can see your current trait in Verse Piece, the damage multiplier, and the stat points it gives you in your character menu.
How to Store Traits in Verse Piece
In Verse Piece, if you want to save one of the traits you rolled for later use in getting a weapon or a spec that requires it, you can store it in your trait storage. Keep in mind that you first need to unlock trait storage slots by using the Trait Storage material.
![]()
You can purchase Trait Storage from the Adventure Shop on the Merchant Island or trade for it with someone. Later, you will want to have at least one trait storage slot because it allows you to save your current trait before rerolling.
Verse Piece Trait Progression
When you just start out in the Verse Piece world, try to get traits like God-Like or Spiritual because of the stat boost they provide. For the mid-game, Zenin and Heavenly Restriction boost your damage while allowing you to obtain legendary-tier weapons, so go for them. However, later on, Mythic and Exotic tier traits are the way to go if you want to stay competitive in Verse Piece.
![]()
Honored One is the best Mythic trait because of the title you get with it, while Rage Revenge offers slightly more damage. Your end-game goals should be Monarch, Rejected Zenin, and the Betrayer, as they are the best traits in Verse Piece.
This is it for our Verse Piece traits guide. If you are looking to claim some freebies, including free Race Rerolls and Storage, then check out our list of Verse Piece codes.

Fishing in Verse Piece is the easiest and the best way to farm materials such as Race and Ability Rerolls. Furthermore, by fishing, you can get one of the most challenging items to get in Verse Piece, the Limitbreak Stones. So that you can quickly start catching the big game in Verse Piece, we prepared the following fishing guide to help you out.
How to Start Fishing in Verse Piece
![]()
To start fishing in Verse Piece, go to the edge of the Starter Island closest to the Lost Isle. There, you will first have to buy the Fishook from the Fishhook Seller NPC. Then, you can cast the Fishhook by interacting with one of the three circles on the ground close by. Fishing doesn't require any additional input in Verse Piece, but you can get kicked out of the server after 20 minutes if you don't move at all.
How to Get the Fishook and the Golden Fishook in Verse Piece
You can get the Fishhook and the Golden Fishhook by purchasing them from the Fishhook Seller on the Starter Island. Fishhooks won't be in your inventory. However, you can distinguish which one you have by the color of your rod while fishing in Verse Piece. Lastly, these are the materials you need to purchase both fishhooks and where you can find them:
How to Upgrade Your Fishook
![]()
Upgrading your Fishhook should be on your priority list as soon as you start catching some Fish in Verse Piece. Upgrades cost 5, 15, and 25 fish, respectively. You can find the Fishhook Upgrader on a ledge close to the fishing spots on the Starter Island. You only have to upgrade your fishhooks once, as the upgrades carry over to the Golden Fishhook.
Getting Different Baits in Verse Piece
![]()
There are three different fishing baits you can get in Verse Piece: Golden Bait, Enhance Bait, and Limitbreak Bait. With each bait upgrade, you will start fishing out better and better items. The Limitbreak Bait, specifically, lets you catch Limitbreak Stones, which are extremely difficult to come by. Here is a preview of each Bait upgrade and the materials needed for them:
Loot From Fishing in Verse Piece and the Fisherman Trait
The Fisherman trait in Verse Piece improves your fishing rewards slightly. So, instead of receiving four rewards per fishing cycle, you get five. In general, you get the same loot from fishing as you would from chests. However, you can't farm chests nearly as fast as you can fish. With the Golden Fishhook, all three fishhook upgrades, Limitbreak Bait, and Fisherman trait, you get five rewards every ten seconds.
The most valuable items you can get by fishing in Verse Piece are definitely Race and Ability Rerolls, Dungeon Tickets, Artifacts, Enhance Stones, Sukuna Fingers, and Limitbreak Stones. You can also get various other materials needed for crafting some swords and specs. Now, you will max out those materials relatively quickly in your inventory. So, make sure to sell them at the Adventure Shop for some easy Gems.
Now, you are ready to become a master angler in Verse Piece and maybe even guide others on their own fishing expeditions. If you are in for more of our Verse Piece content, then make sure to check out the Verse Piece section of Destructoid.

The best way to farm Dungeon Tickets in Verse Piece is by fishing. However, you can also get Dungeon Tickets in Verse Piece by opening chests, which drop from bosses within Verse Piece dungeons. Swords in Verse Piece are your go-to damage option in the late game. However, there is a huge difference in damage output between certain swords. Some swords have way better M1 damage, CC, and AoE to boot. So, to help you decide which swords to grind for, we prepared the following Verse Piece swords guide and tier list below.
What are Swords in Verse Piece?
Swords are your primary damage source in Verse Piece, especially in the late game. They grant you enhanced M1 attacks and a variety of other powerful moves. Each sword has up to five moves (Z, X, C, V, F). Lower rarity swords usually only have two or three, while Mythic and Exotic swords usually have at least four moves and very high damage.
Verse Piece Swords Tier List
![]()
The above tier list ranks all swords in Verse Piece primarily based on their DPS, M1 damage, AoE, and the amount of CC they have. When calculating the DPS of each sword, we took the cooldown and channel time of their moves into consideration as well. In the list further in the guide, we listed only the base damage for each of the sword's moves.
Best Swords in Verse Piece
Sung Jin Woo is currently the best sword in Verse Piece, as it has the highest DPS and M1 damage of all swords. Cid V2 is a close second with more damage in his kit but with less overall DPS because of his M1 damage and long cooldowns. Toji V2, Red Mist, Yoriichi, and Kokushibo are all great, with decent AoE and very high damage that is only slightly lower than Cid V2's. Swords placed in A tier and below either lack M1 damage, DPS, or AoE when compared to the S-tier swords.
Verse Piece Swords List
Below is a list of all swords in Verse Piece, including swords that you can't get anymore. The moves of each sword are also described in the following list, along with the requirements needed to obtain each sword. Keep in mind that damage values for each sword move do not represent their overall DPS.
How to Upgrade Swords in Verse Piece
![]()
You can upgrade your swords in Verse Piece by interacting with the Blacksmith NPC on the Blacksmith Isle. However, each upgrade costs you one Enhance Stone, and there is only a 10% chance of it being successful. So, on average, you will need 50 Enhance Stones to max out a sword.
How to Get Enhance Stones
![]()
The best way to farm Enhance Stones in Verse Piece is to start fishing. Alternatively, you can get Enhance Stones by opening any type of chest. Chests are dropped by Bosses found around the map and in dungeons. The best method for farming chests is grinding Boss Rush dungeons. Each Boss Rush dungeon contains five Bosses, and all of them drop one to two chests when you defeat them.
I hope the above tier list helps you focus your grind on the best swords in Verse Piece. If you want to find out how to really max out your build, then check out our Verse Piece abilities and trait passives guides.

Becoming the strongest is everyone's goal in Verse Piece. However, you won't get far on that road without a good Sword by your side. Now, one of the best Swords currently available in Verse Piece is also very tricky to get. So, we prepared the following guide on how to get Sung Jin Woo Sword in Verse Piece to help you out.
Table of Contents
What is Sung Jin Woo's Sword in Verse Piece
Sung Jin Woo is, without a doubt, the best Sword in Verse Piece. With its versatile moveset and devastating damage, SJW outranks every other Sword by far, including Cid V2 and Toji V2 Unleashed. It can also summon a special unit, Igris, to fight for you for a limited time. Below, we will take a closer look at SJW's moveset in Verse Piece.
How to Get Sung Jin Woo Sword in Verse Piece
![]()
You can get the Sung Jin Woo Sword in Verse Piece by interacting with the Jin Woo Teacher (NPC) found on the Starter Island. However, you first have to obtain several components needed to purchase the SJW Sword, and those are:
How to Complete the Jin Woo Quest and Get the 2nd Awakening Title
![]()
The Sung Jin Woo Quest NPC is located in Karakura Town. You can find him between the two tunnels, behind a line of houses on the left side of the island. To start the Jin Woo quest, you will need to be level 5000+.
The 2nd Awakening quest itself is simple, but it can take you a while to complete it, as it requires you to get killed 100 times by a player with the Betrayer trait. To get done with the quest quickly, either find a friend to do it with you or ask someone to help you out on the Verse Piece Discord server.
How to Get the Knight Dagger and the Basaka Dagger
To get the Basaka Dagger and the Knight Dagger in Verse Piece, you need to complete the Shadow Monarch dungeon. Sounds simple, but it's harder than it looks. The rewards are not guaranteed, and to open the dungeon on the Runes Island, you need 5,000 Gems and x3 Dungeon Tickets.
The Shadow Monarch dungeon has two Bosses, Igris and Sung Jin Woo. Igris drops some powerful accessories, while Sung Jin Woo drops the Basaka and Knight Daggers. Grinding the Shadow Monarch dungeon is the optimal way to get the SJW daggers, but you can also try to trade for them with other players.
How to Farm Gems for Sung Jin Woo Sword
![]()
The quickest way to farm Gems for the Sung Jin Woo Sword in Verse Piece is to kill Boss enemies. Bosses can spawn around the map at set intervals. However, to make the Gem grind more efficient, do Boss Rush dungeons instead. Also, make sure to equip a title with the biggest Gem multiplier.
How to Get the Monarch Trait
This can be the easiest or the most challenging step of them all, depending on your luck. To get the Monarch trait, go to the Trait Reroll NPC in Frost Town. From there, you will have to roll traits until you receive the Monarch trait. The tricky part is that there is only a 0.025% chance of rolling any Exotic Trait, so this might take you a long time. Each reroll is 25 Gems, so make sure you bring a lot of gems.
![]()
The Monarch trait itself is very powerful as it increases all your stats by 10,000 and gives you an x7.5 damage multiplier. Keep in mind that you will lose the Monarch trait when you buy the Sung Jin Woo Sword. So, if you have a good trait passive on it, it's better to save it for later and roll for another Monarch trait that you will sacrifice.
How to Upgrade Sung Jin Woo Sword in Verse Piece
![]()
To upgrade the Sung Jin Woo Sword, you will need around 50 Enhance Stones, which you can get by opening Mythical and Exotic Chests. Potentially, you might need less than that if the RNG is on your side. Anyways, once you have a few Enhance Stones to spare, head to the Blacksmith Isle and interact with the Blacksmith NPC while you have SJW equipped.
That sums up everything you need to know about how you get Sung Jin Woo Sword in Verse Piece. If you want to really max out your build with unique skills, then check out our Verse Piece abilities and artifacts guides.

Artifacts are an excellent tool for turning tides in various PvP and PvE engagements in Verse Piece. They give incredible buffs and unique effects that are not found anywhere else in the game. If you want to know which Artifacts are good or bad and which ones are a must-have, then follow our Verse Piece Artifact guide and tier list below.
Verse Piece Artifacts Tier List
![]()
Farming for Artifacts in Verse Piece is hard work, but don't be discouraged if you do not get the best ones, like Ice or Saiya Artifacts, at first. A good starting one is the Intelligent Artifact because it reduces all your cooldowns. Another good pick is the Wind Artifact, which lets you zoom around the map. Use the Turbo and the Recovery artifacts only if you have no other options.
Verse Piece Artifact List
Below is a complete list of all Artifacts in Verse Piece sorted by their position on the tier list. We also highlighted which Artifacts are good in PvP or PvE. In general, most Artifacts work as passive abilities that you don't have to activate. However, some Artifacts, like the Turbo one, can be used by pressing the Y button on your keyboard.
How to Get Artifacts in Verse Piece
Artifacts are very important, but getting them is not an easy task. There are two ways to get Artifacts in Verse Piece. Firstly, you can get Artifacts by opening Mythical and Exotic Chests. The other method is to start fishing, which is the best way of farming materials in general.
![]()
Chests mostly drop from Bosses that spawn around the map. However, these bosses usually have long respawn times. So, if you want to farm chests efficiently, just do dungeons that contain only bosses, like the Boss rush ones.
That concludes our Verse Piece Artifact guide and tier list. To see more Verse Piece strategy guides, tier lists, and more, check out our Abilities and Accessories guides.

Apart from Swords, Specs, and Artifacts, Accessories are essential equippable items in Verse Piece. They can push your build to the limit by enhancing your most important stats. But not all Accessories are equally strong. So, we made the following Verse Piece Accessories guide and tier list to help you out.
What are Accessories in Verse Piece
![]()
Accessories in Verse Piece are items that a player can equip to buff their overall stats. Different Accessories give different bonuses, and some are much stronger than others. Some increase your Special Attack, while others increase your Defense or Sword Damage. So, pay attention to what stats you need to max out the damage of your moves and abilities.
Verse Piece Accessories Tier List
If you are having trouble choosing an Accessory to go with, check out the following Verse Piece Accessories Tier List:
![]()
The Los Lobos Clothes is without a doubt the strongest Accessory in the game with its all-around maximum stats, but it can be very hard to acquire. If you have no luck grinding for the high-end Accessories, good starting choices would be Itachi's Cloak, Hidan's Cloak, or Madara's Armor. All three are easily purchasable by completing a few dungeons.
Verse Piece Accessories List
Below is a detailed and complete list of all Accessories in Verse Piece, along with the stats they provide and where you can get them from:
How to Get Accessories in Verse Piece
![]()
The main way to acquire Accessories in Verse Piece is by fighting bosses and getting their loot drops. These bosses appear randomly throughout the map, so make sure to pay attention to the top-right of the screen where their health bar appears. You can also find them by looking out for Red Skulls that appear above them. Also, some Accessories are only available from various dungeon and event NPCs.
How to Upgrade Accessories in Verse Piece
Upgrading your Accessories in Verse Piece can be quite RNG-heavy. First, you will need to collect Enhance Stones and then roll to upgrade an Accessory. Each roll has a 90% chance to fail and only a 10% chance to succeed. You can upgrade Accessories up to five times. So, on average, you will need 50 Enhance Stones to max out a single Accessory in Verse Piece.
How to Get Enhance Stones in Verse Piece
The best and easiest way to get Enhance Stones in Verse Piece is to open chests that drop from bosses. Depending on which type of chest you are opening, your chances of getting Enhance Stones can vary quite a lot. Your best bet is to open Mythic and Exotic chests at the end. You can also trade Enhance Stones with other Verse Piece players if you have an item of appropriate or similar value.
That sums up everything you need to know about Accessories in Verse Piece. If you want to check out more of our Verse Piece guides and tier lists, visit the Verse Piece section of Destructoid.

Abilities are one of the most important aspects in Verse Piece, both in PvE and PvP, as their destructive ability and damage are through the roof. However, not all of them are created equal, so think carefully before settling for any one Ability. To make your choice easier, we have created a simple and detailed Verse Piece Abilities guide and tier list below.
Verse Piece Abilities Tier List
![]()
The tier list above ranks all Abilities in Verse Piece based on their overall damage and the utility they provide in and outside of battle. The S-Tier Abilities, such as Cid's Atomic (All Range), Kurohitsugi (Maximum Output), and TNT, are especially powerful and should be aimed for when rerolling. Good Abilities that are useful early on are Conqueror Haki and Malevolent Shrine.
Verse Piece Abilities List
Below are all Verse Piece Abilities, listed by rarity and explained in detail:
What Are Abilities in Verse Piece?
Abilities in Verse Piece are similar to some Sword and Spec moves. However, they usually have a much longer cooldown. There are some unique abilities as well, like the Gatekeeper, which lets you quickly teleport to various Verse Piece islands. You can use an Ability by clicking (R) on your keyboard. To view your currently equipped Ability, navigate to the Stats menu.
How to Reroll and Store Abilities in Verse Piece?
Rerolling abilities in Verse Piece is quite easy, and the only thing you need is an Ability Reroll. Click on it to equip it from your inventory, and then use it to reroll your current Ability. Ability Rerolls can be hard to come by, as they mostly drop from Mythical and Exotic Chests, so use them carefully. However, if you want to farm them extensively, then your best bet is fishing in Verse Piece.
![]()
Storing abilities in Verse Piece is also simple but can be tricky, as your Ability Storage space is limited, and you need to manage it well. But don't worry; there are many ways to expand your Ability Storage and save certain abilities for future use.
How to Get Ability Rerolls
The easiest way to get Ability Rerolls in Verse Piece is to open Mythical and Exotic Chests that drop from Bosses found in dungeons and on some islands. Every time you open a chest, you will get five rewards, such as Enhance Stones for Accessories and possibly some Ability Rerolls. Bosses can be challenging, so don't be afraid to ask other players for help. An easier way is to trade with other players, which can be done at any point and on any level.
How to Get Ability Storage
Ability Storage is important because it might take you a while to get the Ability you are rolling for. The best way to get Ability Storage is by using codes. However, you can also purchase it from the Adventure Shop if you are lucky enough to stop by when they are in stock.
And that concludes our Verse Piece abilities guide. Make sure to check out our Verse Piece Codes for free race and ability rerolls, as well as many other goodies.

Unlike traits and races, titles in Verse Piece don't increase your damage or your stats in any way. However, good titles make grinding levels and Gems a lot easier, especially early on. So, to help you out with unlocking all of them, we prepared the following Verse Piece title guide below.
What are Titles in Verse Piece?
Titles in Verse Piece multiply all Money, Gems, and XP that you get by killing mobs and Bosses or by rolling on the gacha machines in the Verse Arcade. Titles are unlocked in various ways. For example, you can get titles by leveling up, completing quests, and killing Bosses. Some titles are also needed to unlock certain Specs and Swords.
Verse Piece Title List
How to Equip Titles in Verse Piece
![]()
To equip a title in Verse Piece, talk to the Title Equipment NPC on the Starter Island and click the "Equip" button in its box. You can switch between titles whenever you want. However, it's best just to equip the one that boosts your XP, Money, and Gem gain the most. Also, you don't have to equip a title if you need to get a Sword or a Spec in Verse Piece. Just having a title unlocked is enough.
Verse Piece Title Progression
Early on, try to get the Honored One by rerolling your traits whenever you can. After that, your best bet is to try and get a title by completing dungeons or killing bosses. You can find someone to help you with this on the public servers or by asking on the Verse Piece Discord server.
Lastly, grind and unlock the Los Lobos title, as it is the best title in Verse Piece. While you defeat 25 Starkk (LL) Bosses to get it, you might even get the Los Lobos Clothes accessory. Second Awakening is also a great one to have because it's needed to unlock the best sword in the game, Sung Jin Woo.
And that sums up everything you need to know about titles in Verse Piece. If you want to check out more of our VP content, visit the Verse Piece hub here on Destructoid.

Betrayer is undoubtedly one of the, if not the strongest, traits in Verse Piece. With Betrayer, grinding PvE content will be much easier, and you will certainly have the upper hand in PvP as well. Without further ado, let's find out how to get the Betrayer trait in Verse Piece!
Betrayer Trait Quest in Verse Piece
![]()
To get the Betrayer trait in Verse Piece, you will need to complete a specific quest related to it. You can find the quest NPC on top of a rock surrounding the Lost Isle, the island where bosses automatically spawn. There are two requirements for completing the Betrayer trait quest:
Make sure to swap your trait for one that you won't need because Betrayer will replace your current trait upon quest completion. Also, keep in mind that because the Betrayer trait doesn't have rarity, you won't get prompted to confirm if you want to reroll it.
How to Efficiently Complete The Betrayer Quest
Getting 50 kills won't be easy, especially if you are not max level and you don't have one of the meta swords, specs, or fruits in Verse Piece. So, to finish the quest quickly, you can make an alt account, join the same server, and farm kills on your main account.
Keep in mind that when someone dies in PvP, no one can damage them for a few minutes. However, there is a workaround for this. When your other character dies, go to the Roblox options menu and click the Respawn button. This way, when your character resets, they will be able to damage the character that previously killed them.
What Bonuses Does the Betrayer Trait Give?
![]()
The Betrayer trait gives you an insane x7.5 Damage Multiplier, along with +7500 to Defense. The only other traits in Verse Piece that are as strong are Monarch and Rejected Zenin. For a more detailed preview of all traits and trait passives in Verse Piece, check out our traits and trait passives guides.
As a side note, getting killed by a player with the Betrayer trait is needed to complete the Jinwoo Quest, unlock the 2nd Awakening title, and get the Sung Jin Woo sword.
That sums up everything you need to know about how to get the Betrayer trait in Verse Piece. If you want to get yourself some free Race Rerolls and storage expansion materials, then make sure to check out our Verse Piece codes.

Fruits are an essential part of all One Piece-inspired Roblox experiences, including Verse Piece. The best ones will help you progress much quicker and help you grind end-game content and PvP with ease. To learn which fruits are the best, check out our Verse Piece fruit tier list below!

How to Get Fruits in Verse Piece
![]()
Obtaining fruits in Verse Piece is an easy task. All you have to do is go to the Merchant Island, which is directly south-west of the Starter Island. There, you will find the Random Fruit NPC behind a pink stall. Interacting with them will cost you 25 crystals, and in return, you will get a random fruit in your inventory.
To learn the fruit's moveset, equip it and then use it by clicking M1. Note that doing this will overwrite your previous fruit. To open your inventory and see all the fruits that you have, press "~" (button above Tab) on your keyboard.
![]()
In case you end up with too many fruit in your inventory, you can use Backspace to drop a specific fruit to the ground (others will be able to pick it up). You can also throw away all the unequipped fruits by interacting with the Trash Bag that is next to the yellow stall on the same island.
That concludes our Verse Piece fruit tier list. To get more currency for fruit, race, and trait rerolls, redeem the codes from our Verse Piece code list.

Traits in Verse Piece are one of the most important aspects of your character in Verse Piece. Primarily, they exponentially increase your damage and survivability. However, that's not all there is to them. Find out how to further buff your best traits with our Verse Piece trait passives guide below.
What are Trait Passives in Verse Piece?
Trait passives in Verse Piece increase the damage multiplier given by your trait. For example, with the Godly passive (50% increased damage) on the Betrayer trait (7.5x damage multiplier), you will deal 11.25x the damage. Damage increase from trait passives isn't shown anywhere. However, it works, and you can test it by hitting the dummy on the Starter Island with a fruit, spec, or sword.
Verse Piece Trait Passives List
Below is a list of all currently available trait passives in Verse Piece. The progression here is very linear. The rarer the passive, the more it will increase your damage. Keep in mind that the trait passive works only on the trait you rerolled it on.
How to Reroll Trait Passives in Verse Piece
In Verse Piece, you can reroll passives on your trait by interacting with the Passive Traits Reroll NPC found in Karakura Town. Each reroll costs you 2,500 Gems and one Corrupted Ticket. If you have a decent trait passive already, try to save up at least a hundred Corrupted Tickets before rerolling again unless you have a duplicate trait in your storage.
How to Get Corrupted Tickets
Corrupted Tickets are difficult to come by in Verse Piece as they drop only from Corrupted Bosses, which have 10m HP. Now, there is a relatively easy way to farm Corrupted Tickets if you have a decent build, and that is by doing Corrupted Boss Rush dungeons.
Each run contains five Corrupted Bosses, and you will need 10,000 Gems and 10 Dungeon Tickets to enter one. Corrupted Bosses drop one or two Corrupted Tickets, depending on whether there is an ongoing event that doubles material drops.
What Traits Are Worth Spending Corrupted Tickets On
In general, you want to spend Corrupted Tickets wisely, as they are relatively hard to come by. So, reroll passives on traits with the highest damage multiplier in Verse Piece. Good examples are Monarch, Betrayer, and Rejected Zenin traits. Lastly, if you have excess Corrupted Tickets, just save them until new traits come out.
I hope you are now ready to really max out your built-in Verse Piece with the trait passives guide above. If you want to claim some free materials, including Dungeon Tickets and Race Rerolls, then make sure to check out our Verse Piece codes.

Verse Piece late-game PvP and PvE is all about who has more damage and how quickly they can dish it out. Toji V2 Unleashed sword is one of the best swords for that purpose because of its high damage, mobility, and very quick animations. So, if you want to get one of the best swords in the entire Verse Piece, then follow our Toji V2 Unleashed guide below.
Table of Contents
Full Toji V2 Unleashed Move Showcase
Toji V2 Unleashed has very high M1 damage and quick animations, which makes him an excellent sword for grinding in Verse Piece. Short animations let you deal more burst damage with your moves and then switch to M1 combos for very high DPS. Even though his kit does have only four moves, they all have decent AoE and CC. Compared to some low-mobility swords like the Sung Jin Woo and Cid V2, the Toji V2 has an incredible dash X move as well.
How to Get the Toji V2 Unleashed Sword in Verse Piece
![]()
In Verse Piece, you can buy the Toji V2 Unleashed sword from the Toji Unleashed NPC in Jujutsu Village for 10k Gems, 1 Heavenly Spear, and 1 Spirit Soul Katana. You will need to have the Toji sword, the Rejected Zenit trait, and the Truthseeker race as well. Toji Unleashed can be found on the outskirts of the Village by the two log piles closest to the shore.
Gems and the Heavenly Spear are easily obtained by defeating Bosses and opening chests in Verse Piece. The other components are more tricky to get. So, we decided to dedicate a separate section for each of them further in the guide.
How to Get the Toji V1 Sword
![]()
To get the Toji V1 sword, you will only need 2,500 Gems, 1 Heavenly Spear, and the Heavenly Restriction trait. You can get all of these while farming the other Toji V2 components in Verse Piece. The Heavenly Spear drops from basically all chests in Verse Piece, while the Heavenly Restriction is a common legendary trait. Once you have both, head to the Desert Town and talk to the Toji NPC.
Crafting the Split Soul Katana
![]()
Split Soul Katana is one of the key components needed for the Toji V2 Unleashed sword in Verse Piece. Thankfully, you can craft the Split Soul Katana using 5,000 Gems, 100 Iron, 75 Black Iron, 1 Handle (Split Soul Katana), and 1 Blade (Split Soul Katana) at the Craft NPC on the Blacksmith Isle. Here is a breakdown of where you can farm each of these materials in Verse Piece:
Obtaining the Truthseeker Race
![]()
The Truthseeker is one of the best races in Verse Piece, and it's also a key component needed for the Toji V2 sword. To get the Truthseeker race, use Race Rerolls and hope for the best. Exotic Races, such as the Truthseeker, are very difficult to get. It took me thousands of Race Rerolls to get it myself. So, if you run out of Race Rerolls, check out our Verse Piece fishing guide to farm more of them efficiently.
How to Reroll Traits and Get the Rejected Zenin Trait
![]()
In Verse Piece, you can obtain The Toji V2's signature Rejected Zenin trait by rerolling traits at the Trait Reroll NPC in Frost Town. If you get it while rerolling for Monarch or some other traits, make sure to store it. Rejected Zenin is an exotic trait in Verse Piece with a low 0.025% reroll chance. So, if you are unlucky, make sure to sell your excess materials at the Adventure Shop for more Gems.
How to Farm the Curse Worm
Curse Worm material is a rare drop from the Toji Unleashed Boss on the Boss Island, which you can summon using Boss Tickets and Gems. However, keep in mind that Curse Worm's drop rate is extremely low, so it might take you a while to get it. You can exchange Mythical materials for Boss Tickets at the Ticket Exchange NPC on Bleach Island in case you run out of them.
How to Enhance the Toji V2 (Unleashed) Sword in Verse Piece
![]()
To upgrade the Toji V2 Unleashed sword in Verse Piece, visit the Blacksmith NPC on the Blacksmith Isle. You can enhance the Toji v2 sword up to five times, and each try costs you one Enhance Stone. However, there is only a 10% chance of the enhancement being successful. So, you will need around 50 Enhance Stones to upgrade Toji V2 Unleashed fully.
How to Farm Enhance Stones
If you want to grind Enhance Stones in Verse Piece, then fishing is your best bet. However, you can also get Enhance Stones from all types of chests. Chests drop from basically every Boss in Verse Piece. Rarer chests like the Exotic ones only drop from some powerful dungeon Bosses. Lastly, you can craft chests at the Craft NPC on Blacksmith Isle using other chests.
That does it for our guide on how to get Toji V2 Unleashed sword in Verse Piece. If you want to start deleting every enemy there is, then check out our Verse Piece accessories and trait passives guides as well.

Combat specs in Verse Piece are usually a lot weaker compared to swords. However, there are exceptions to that, and one of those exceptions is the Sukuna V2 (Curse King) spec. Sukuna V2 boasts damage that is higher than some meta Verse Piece swords. So, if you want to find out how to get one of the best specs in Verse Piece, follow our Sukuna V2 (Curse King) guide below.
Table of Contents
What is the Sukuna V2 Spec in Verse Piece?
Sukuna V2 Spec is one of the highest damage and CC specs in Verse Piece. Even though Sukuna V2 has no moves that grant you invulnerability, like Hakari (Gambler), its damage is on par with Aizen (TYBW). Sukuna V2's M1 attacks deal more damage than even some sword M1 combos like the Cid V2's and Toji V2's. In general, Sukuna V2 is a great DPS spec to have if you don't plan on grinding for swords that hard to get, like Sung Jin Woo.
How to Get the Sukuna V2 Combat Spec in Verse Piece
![]()
You can purchase the Sukuna V2 spec from the Sukuna (Curse King) Teacher in Jujutsu Village for 7,500 Gems, 250 Curse Energy Shards, and 25 The True Sukuna Fingers. You need to have the Yuji combat spec as well. To farm Gems efficiently, equip yourself with the best title you have and grind the Boss Rush dungeon. As for the other materials needed to get the Sukuna V2 spec in Verse Piece, we dedicated a section for each of them down below.
Farming Curse Energy Shards
Curse Energy Shards drop from basically every Jujutsu Kaisen Boss in Verse Piece. Also, they are a very common drop while fishing or when opening chests. A few Curse Energy Shards are also often in stock at the Adventure Shop. However, I wouldn't buy them as you will get enough of them while farming for other Sukuna V2 components.
How to Get The True Sukuna Fingers
There are two ways to get The True Sukuna Fingers in Verse Piece. The first method is to defeat the Sukuna (Curse King) Boss, which you can summon on the Boss Island using 3 Boss Tickets and 5,000 Gems. In case you run out of Boss Tickets, you can exchange Mythical materials for them through the Ticket Exchange NPC on Bleach Island.
![]()
The other method to get The True Sukuna Fingers needed for the Sukuna V2 (Curse King) spec in Verse Piece is to use normal Sukuna Fingers (Epic material). When you use a Sukuna Finger, there is a low chance you will get one The True Sukuna Finger. Sukuna Fingers drop from Sukuna Bosses and Mythical Chests. You can even catch them while fishing.
How to Obtain the Yuji Spec
![]()
To get the Yuji Spec, interact with the Yuji Teacher NPC in Frost Town while you have 3,500 Gems, 1 The True Sukuna Finger, and 25 Curse Energy Shards in your inventory. You will get all of the materials needed for the Yuji spec while farming for the Sukuna V2 in Verse Piece. So, there is no need to target farm anything specifically for it.
That sums up everything you need to know on how to get Sukuna V2 spec in Verse Piece. If you want to maximize the damage potential of the Sukuna V2 spec you just unlocked, then check out our Verse Piece race, trait, and trait passives guides.

With Sunrise on the Reaping set to be published on March 18, there are a lot of people waiting for their next dose of Susan Collins' post-apocalyptic and dystopian world. If you're one of those people, there are plenty of options to get you through the next month.
Post-apocalyptic, dystopian fiction is a hugely popular genre. There's something almost reassuring about reading tales of alternate realities where the world is beyond broken. It's almost a reminder that, as messed-up as our own world can seem at times, things could definitely be worse.
Whatever kind of dystopia you want to find, there's a book out there that can provide it. Here are 10 of the best dystopian tales to tide you over until Sunrise on the Reaping comes out.
The Handmaid's Tale
Margaret Atwood
![]()
If you're looking for dark and dystopian, you probably can't do better than Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Set in a world where fertility rates have dropped to almost nothing, and successful pregnancies only occur 20% of the time, The Handmaid's Tale is almost impossibly dark and truly riveting. Absolutely worth a read if you can stomach the dark themes involved.
Divergent
Veronica Roth
![]()
The Divergent series is set in a startlingly similar world to The Hunger Games, with a post-apocalyptic Chicago playing host to five factions defined by societal status and personality traits. Much like The Hunger Games, there is also a subplot of young-adult love that runs through the series, between Tris and Four. There are four books in the series, plus a short story epilogue to tie everything together at the end.
The Maze Runner
James Dashner
![]()
The first in a series of five books, The Maze Runner centers around the battle to overcome the Flare, an apocalyptic illness. The youngest generation on the planet is immune to this illness and is, therefore, used by WICKED as test subjects to find a cure. Those placed into the maze are stripped of their memories, but they all want to find a way to escape.
Red Rising
Pierce Brown
![]()
It's almost a travesty that the Red Rising series hasn't received a silver-screen adaptation yet because the universe and story created by Pierce Brown are utterly fantastic. The story follows Darrow, a "Red" on Mars who begins life as a lowborn miner. As the story progresses, Darrow transforms his entire life (and body) to infiltrate the Golds, the most highborn members of civilization.
Battle Royale
Koushun Takami
![]()
There are some (myself very much included) that class Battle Royale as the story that would eventually be adapted to become the inspiration for Collins to write The Hunger Games. Collins has said that she didn't know Battle Royale existed when she wrote her books, but it's got everything that Collins included: a group of children thrown into a battle to the death by a totalitarian government for entertainment, a love story between two of the combatants, and the determination to fight the fascist system. Sound familiar?
Uglies
Scott Westerfeld
![]()
Imagine living in a world where you're considered "Ugly" until you reach the ripe old age of 16, get massively invasive and body-wide cosmetic surgery, and then enter the world of the "Pretty." That's the world laid out in Uglies, and Tally doesn't like this system. Instead, she joins the resistance and throws up her middle finger to the society that deems her unworthy unless she submits herself to their standards. Things get violent, and resistance does not come easy.
Brave New World
Aldous Huxley
![]()
Often considered an inversion counterpart to Orwell's 1984, Brave New World is set in a dystopian future where humans are artificially created and then sorted into a pre-determined, intelligence-based social hierarchy. The people are controlled by psychoactive drugs, everything is learned during sleep, and people are conditioned to behave according to expectations, but Bernard Marx is a break from the norm.
Tender is the Flesh
Agustina Bazterrica
![]()
I've written about Tender is the Flesh a few times, and I'll always include it wherever I'm able to because it is something that I'd recommend to everyone, as long as you've got a fairly strong stomach and don't mind detailed descriptions of human slaughter and cannibalism. Rather than focusing on the fight to change the norm, Tender is the Flesh centers around the willingness to conform in a society where humans are treated as no more than cattle after a disease renders all animal products deadly to eat.
Matched
Ally Condie
![]()
Matched is set in a world where people are paired into lifelong romantic relationships at the age of 17 by an expertly designed algorithm. I'm not sure about you, but that's a pretty terrifying idea for me. Cassia agrees, and after she is matched with her best friend, she begins to question the society in which they live and whether their match is truly best for them.
Severance
Ling Ma
![]()
Shen Fever is a fungal infection that causes people who contract it to begin repeating the same routines, without end or consciousness, until they die. This infection, something akin to a slow and almost unnoticeable zombie apocalypse, eventually leads to the complete societal collapse of the United States, but some people are immune. Severance is the story of those who survive, watching people routinely and slowly wander towards impending death.

First, you need to be able to summon a bear. This is done by unlocking the 'Bear Ally' ability from the 'Ranger' skill tree. This can only be purchased with one ability point once you reach level 15, so you're not going to be able to do this until you're a good 15-20 hours into the game.

Now that you can summon a Bear Ally, make your way to Emerald Stair and head to the northeast section of the map, near where the Ranger Headquarters is. Just to the west of this, you'll find a sunken area with shallow water. Alongside some of the mushroom monster enemies, you'll find a bear wandering around here (as long as you've not killed it already).

Clear out the mushroom enemies yourself and then summon your bear ally. Ideally, summon it as the bear enemy is near you, and they should lock on to one another. Let them fight it out for a bit, occasionally landing an attack or two yourself, and eventually, the achievement should pop.
Bear locations in Avowed
If you've already killed the bear northwest of the Ranger Headquarters, there are some others you've hopefully not killed yet (as enemies don't respawn). I advise searching around the west of Emerald Stair, near the Rock Arch Beascon fast travel point just east of The Delemgan Glade.

Here, you'll find two bears among other enemies that can be killed. The further you venture into Dalamagn territory toward the queen, you'll encounter some other bears, so this can be a good area to search.
Alternatively, go back to Dawnshore and explore the forest areas to the east of the main city and the map in general. Specifically, visit the wooded areas on the map around Yellowband Camp, east of the Shrine to Woedica, and south of the Emerald Stair Gatehouse. I've circled each of these in red on the map screenshot below.

I found a few bears wandering around these locations and given you don't have to venture out this way for any main quests, there's a good chance you'll find a bear that you've not yet killed. Alternatively, you'll find a bear or two wandering the forest areas in the Overgrown Frontier on the west side of the Dawnshore map.
All bear ally upgrades
You can also make it easier to unlock this achievement by purchasing the Rank 2 and Rank 3 upgrades for the Bear Ally ability. I've listed each of these, when they're unlocked, and what they do below.
By increasing its damage and the duration your bear ally will stick around for, you've got more chance of your bear actually engaging in a fight with another bear, and dealing heftier damage that should register to unlock the achievement. I managed to get it without either upgrade, but if you're having problems, this should help you out.
That's everything you need to know on how to summon a bear to fight another bear in Avowed. For more help on your adventures across the living lands, we've got guides on where to find the Voice's memory in Dawnshore and Shatterscarp, as well as how to get Paradisan Ladder, Hylea's Talon, and Admeth's Wyrt.
