New Garfield Youtooz Figure Loves Hatsune Miku

Youtooz announced it will soon take pre-orders for a Hatsune Miku-loving Miku Concert Garfield figure. Orders open on July 25, 2025. It is expected to ship between January 2026 and February 2026. It will be available alone for $29.99 or in a bundle with a matching pin for $39.99.

At the moment, only 3D prototype concept art of the figure appeared. It will feature Garfield holding a green lightstick in honor of the Vocaloid. He'll wear a replica of her necktie and a coat in her colors, and there will be a VIP bag on his right shoulder. Over his head will be a thought balloon that features a red heart and Hatsune Miku's face.

Here are the concept images Youtooz shared so far:

This is the third Hatsune Miku Garfield item from Youtooz and second figure. The first figure flipped things, however. That featured the Vocaloid dressed as the cartoon cat. It featured her wearing a dress inspired by him, complete with matching cat ears and tail. She also held a lasagna for the pose, referencing the comic character's love for that food.

There is also a plush of Hatsune Miku dressed in that outfit. That is expected to debut in September 2025. Pre-orders for it are open for $29.99.

The Youtooz Miku Concert Garfield figure of the character supporting Hatsune Miku and wearing her merchandise is expected to release between January 2, 2026 and February 2, 2026. Pre-orders open on July 25, 2025.

Fields of Mistria Celine Friendship or Romance Event Shared

When the July 2025 Fields of Mistria update launches, it will add the option to choose between friendship or romance with the bachelors and bachelorettes that are love interests at this time. To help explain how that goes, NPC Studio shared a trailer of that type of decision. It highlighted a player character making that choice when talking with Celine.

The Fields of Mistria friendship and romance decision trailer showed a moment that took place at The Summit, and it seemed like the player met with Celine during an event there. She started to bring up her feelings for the farmer. It is then that two dialogue options came up. One clearly said, "You're my best friend too, Celine." That text box appeared in blue. The one that would kick off a relationship with the love interest was pink and featured a heart in the upper right corner to help differentiate between the two decisions at a glance. Its text read, "I have feelings for you too, Celine." We see the person playing for the video selected the second option. However, the trailer cut off then, so we won't know what Celine's response would be until after the patch appears.

Here's the full Fields of Mistria friendship and romance branching decision trailer that offered an idea of what that conversation with the bachelors and bachelorettes who show an interest in us  will look like.

https://twitter.com/FieldsofMistria/status/1945520268123811933

The last few trailers looked at the March 8-heart event, new Saturday Market NPCs, and the greenhouse we can build on our farm.

Fields of Mistria is in early access for the PC, and the next update arrives on July 21, 2025.

5.8 Genshin Impact Adds Quest Time Skip Option

HoYoVerse started talking about the 5.8 Genshin Impact update, and it included confirmation that there will be an option to skip time to take on a quest and videos that show off characters' talents in action. Both features will be immediately available after the update.

In Genshin Impact, there will sometimes be a quest in a storyline that will involve returning at a specific day or time to take part, and we would need to go into the options to skip to the correct moment and return. After the 5.8 update, there will be an option to do this from the quest itself. The example gif showed a "Past and Future" quest that would require someone to "wait until nighttime (18:00 - 22:00)" to continue. Once the new version appears, it will be possible to immediately skip to that time within the quest without going into the schedule. It's a time-saving measure.

However, this doesn't address the other issue that can come up with Genshin Impact quests. If a character is "busy" due to a conflict with another mission, you can't take on the new one until that is finished.

As for the Genshin Impact character talent videos, those will appear in multiple areas. If you go to Test Run or Talent Demo pages, the Talents section will include a brief video showing the talent in-action instead of the character art like before. This will be included alongside the existing explanations.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and the 5.8 update will arrive on July 30, 2025.

The Edge of Fate continued Destiny 2's seasonal challenges, and players who want to make the most out of them must hunt data pads in Encore, Kell's Fall, and other activities for the Data Pad Retrieval Part One quests.

One of the Data Pad Retrieval quests is dedicated to Pinnacle Portal activities, which amounts to Exotic missions so far. Encore and Kell's Fall have two data pads each, and finding all of them is required for the Pinnacle Data Pad Retrieval Part One quest. We've compiled a list of them here.

How to complete the Pinnacle Data Pad Retrieval Part 1 seasonal challenge in Destiny 2

If you've already found all the Solo Ops data pads, you might want to move on to Exotic missions, starting with Kell's Fall (Revenant) and Encore (Echoes). Although each of those activities has a plethora of secrets to unlock, most data pads are located in plain view, with the exception of the first one for Encore.

Kell's Fall has two data pads, and they're both at the tail end of the mission. The first one appears after defeating the Mindbender and before the Trickster resurfaces. Once you've dispatched Hiraks, you'll find a dark hallway with an elevator. Look behind the beam of light to spot this data pad on the back of the room.

The second Kell's Fall data pad is located just after defeating the Trickster, right in front of the entrance to Fikrul's throne room. Before planting your rally banner and facing the Fanatic, look by the wall on the right to find this collectible.

The Conductor isn't the only nightmare from Echoes returning in Edge of Fate. The Encore Exotic mission has moved to the Portal, and it brings two more data pads to find if you want to complete the Pinnacle Data Pad Retrieval Part One challenge. The two locations are bookends: one is at the starting area with the Vex lake, and the other is just before the boss room, inside Maya's lab.

The first data pad is located in the same area as the Whisper of the Worm Easter egg in Encore, which opened a secret area in the wall and kickstarted a timed version of the mission. Head to the far end of the mission's first area until you find a place to drop down onto some grassy platforms. Keep going downward until you see a small cave on the wall to your left (if you're facing the landing zone). Go through it and the first data pad will be on the ground by a waterfall.

The final data pad spawns inside Maya's lab, at the end of the mission. Once you stumble upon the degaussed Exomind of Chioma Esi, go through the door at the end of the laboratory and look for this data pad on top of a rock.

Destiny 2 Outer Steppes Strangelet Capsule

Sometimes, Destiny 2's objective markers don't function properly or are confusing in how they're presented. This is the case in one of The Edge of Fate's campaign missions.

In The Outer Steppes Strangelet quest, part of the expansion's story, one of the markers in the quest's steps is confusing players, myself included. But once you figure out where you need to go, the rest of the quest is relatively smooth sailing as you use Matterspark, the Relocator, and eventually the new Mattermorph ability to your advantage.

Here's how to find where to go in that pesky Outer Steppes Strangelet Capsule quest.

Destiny 2 Edge of Fate - The Outer Steppes Strangelet Capsule

Outer Steppes Strangelet Quest in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate
Screenshot by Destructoid

If you're ever lost in Destiny 2, pull out your Ghost (Tab on PC, Touchpad/Start button on controller) and a marker will give you the general direction of your objective. But in the case of this particular mission, the marker is a bit confusing as there are two ways you need to go.

The first one is simple enough, found by following the marker through the Matterspark tunnels. Once you go through the train and find yourself in an area of the map called The Stacks, things get a little disorienting.

The key here is, after defeating the Stasis and Strand Exiles in the area, your next step is to drop down into a hole in the ground directly in front of where you spawned in, destroy both barrier generators, and then use the Relocator Relay to teleport past the natural wall seen in the images below.

Outer Steppes Strangelet Quest in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate, hole location

Once you've done this, the markers and the rest of the quest are much more straightforward. Just keep your eyes peeled for generators that need to be charged with Matterspark and Relocators that can teleport you around the area to get where the marker is pointing you.

The final step of the quest is to complete the mission Morphology, which greatly uses Mattermorph, the newly acquired ability. Doing so will reward you with the Outer Steppes Strangelet you need to continue the campaign.

Genshin Impact cast

I've been around for a few years and seen all sorts of games and genres pop up. Over the past decade or so, however, one particular "genre" caught my eye, one whose appeal I never really understood. And that is, drum roll, gacha.

From Limbus Company to Fate: Grand Order to the currently massively popular Umamusume, there have been more than a few gacha games on the market these past few years. Even games that you wouldn't consider gachas from a trailer or some images turn out to be precisely that: Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero, and so on. The core aspect of such a game is that there are currencies to be spent in-game, most of them purchased for real money and used in "pulls," i.e., virtual slot machines that may or may not give you something worthwhile.

And your whole success, if there even is such a thing in these games, depends on having the best of the best characters, heroes, or whatever else it is that's being "pulled." So, what's the appeal?

Do people just like gambling?

Symboli Rudolf, as seen in Umamusume Pretty Derby.
Collecting horse-women is the name of the game in Umamusume. Yeah, that's a real sentence. Image by Destructoid

This can very well be considered a rhetorical question. It goes without saying that many people in the world adore gambling, some even a little too much. It's one of the most popular and most devastating vices to have. The anticipation of each round of cards, slot machine roll, or roulette ball gives a tremendous high, one that people are keen to get addicted to really quickly.

Gacha games are more or less the same, at least in terms of design. You put some money in (real or fictional, but mostly real) and anticipate a good pull. If the pull is good, then by God it'd be a crying shame to stop there; if it's bad, you gotta keep trying, it's gonna give you something eventually. This mentality is likely what drives people to return to these types of games, or so it's my assumption, as I never really saw the appeal.

What little gameplay there is to these games usually revolves around either a traditional turn-based 2D JRPG or some low-quality action-RPG. Those like ZZZ and Genshin Impact do actually have a bit more to them, but I guess they're more liked by fans of MMO JRPGs on PC and Console rather than your bog-standard mobile gacha fan. The point, however, still stands.

What even is the point?

Limbus Defense featured artwork
Like, there are so many of these games today that I really can't understand what's going on. Image via ArchZara's Opportunity

After all, if you like gambling, why not play a good game like Counter-Strike 2 and lose your money on skins? Hell, if you pull a good one from a case, you can even sell it, something you certainly cannot do in a gacha game. Both the gameplay and the gambling are subpar compared to other stuff out there.

It's gotten so bad that even Riot Games implemented a gacha system in League of Legends, where you spend hundreds of dollars just to get that one unique limited-edition skin that you cannot even do anything with. On occasion, they were just variations of existing skins, meaning there was next to zero value to these "unique" types. But people kept pouring their money into the addictive gacha system, if only for the love of the game (and I'm not saying League of Legends).

So, what even is the point of gacha games? Simply: there is none. Both of its "aspects" are worse than anything else you could be doing or spending your money on.

Free-to-play games are countless in this day and age, and if that's your excuse, then just go to Steam and sort by F2P—you're bound to find something interesting.

And if it's the gambling, the best solution is to quit altogether. Or just, you know, try and make money off it rather than spending it on virtual anime horse girls (do you even see how weird that sounds?)

VVD passing the ball to a teammate in EA FC 26

EA FC 26's maiden gameplay trailer dropped as scheduled on July 16, and for a change, it was an actual display of "gameplay".

If you have been a passionate FIFA (or FC, as well, call it these days) player, you would know just how bad everything is with FC 25. The trailer last year was an animated movie, and things went downhill quickly.

With FC 26, EA Sports is showing from day one that they mean business, and the trailer is very different.

EA FC 26's Trailer feels like a Gameplay Deep Dive

EA Sports conducts gameplay deep dives each year to showcase what they have planned. We are going to get the same once again, but something already feels different. I have attached the official trailer, which opens with the words "We Hear You". It's pretty accurate, because I, and many players in the community, have felt that the developers haven't listened to us with EA FC 25.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSi0iJYSQ24

Watching the trailer, I felt different. For starters, we saw plenty of gameplay footage that highlighted what to expect.

  • Fewer Tackle Backs means better chances for the defenders to win the ball with a successful tackle.
  • Goalkeeper overhaul to reduce rebounds.
  • Quicker passing of the ball.
  • Smarter AI movements.
  • Better agility across all directions.
  • Realistic shielding.
  • Archetype systems.
  • New roles and playstyles.

So why do these changes have me hyped from the trailer itself? For starters, it finally appears that EA Sports is listening. The trailer was less about flashy stuff and more focused on the developers' changes. Tackle Backs have been an issue since EA FC 25 released (they remain, but the situation has improved).

I don't even want to talk about goalkeeping in the current game because it's that. Passing has improved, but again, it took the developers nearly eight months to get it right. All these features are fundamental issues that should be at the foundation of a good football game. Yet, it took several title updates from EA Sports to finally hit the mark (that is, if we consider that at all).

I don't expect the situation with microtransactions to change, and that's fine. EA FC 25 might have plenty of problems, but you don't have to spend money to actually get a Tier-1 squad. However, the basic gameplay has frustrated many, who have stopped playing the game many months ago. Some of them might have returned during FUTTIES, but that's mainly to get some endgame cards in Ultimate Team.

The trailer also shared brief insights into EA Sports revamping the Manager Mode. I grew up on this mode, but it has become dead and stale over the years. Finally, there seems to be some hope for those who don't love to play online. If you do, then there's something new as well.

Ultimate Team, in its current iteration, is all about Champions and Rivals. Squad Battles are boring, Moments exist only in name, and Friendlies are good in some weeks. In EA FC 26, we will be getting back Tournaments, and Live Events will be added to create themed competitions. Champs are also being split into two groups so that beginners can have an easier time getting rewards and improving their squads.

The most important takeaway is perhaps the fact that EA Sports is listening (as I have mentioned earlier). Take any video game, and the general experience is always better when the developers listen. Since last September, many have felt that EA Sports just doesn't care, and this trailer almost signals a new beginning and something far more positive to look at.

Even the brief glimpses of what's essentially a marketing technique showcased some features that we have been wishing for so long. Should they have been included in EA FC 25? Yes, but it's better late than never. However, EA Sports will have to ensure that the promises made by the game's first trailer don't remain unfulfilled come September 19.

Two Guardians fight off some Vex in the Edge of Fate.

Destiny 2's new The Edge of Fate expansion struggled to capture fans' hearts ahead of its release, and that disinterest translated into a drastic drop in its player count. The update peaked at just under 100,000 Steam players on launch day—the worst performance for an expansion so far.

Destiny 2 boasted a peak of only 99,131 players on July 15, when the expansion released. Previous DLCs had far bigger numbers: Last year's The Final Shape had over 300,000 players at its peak, while the disastrous Lightfall also crossed that threshold in 2023. In February 2022, The Witch Queen peaked at 289,895 players, according to tracking website SteamCharts (as spotted by Forbes' Paul Tassi).

A guardian fends off an Imp Swarm in Edge of Fate.
The campaign had its highlights, but the marketing for it didn't pull that many players into it. Image via Bungie

The Edge of Fate already faced an uphill battle. Player reception to the new Fate saga didn't seem as strong after a lull in content and a myriad of systemic changes, including the creation of armor and weapon tiers, bonuses to recent gear, and vague promises about the future of crafting.

Even the time-limited Rite of the Nine event largely failed to warm up the player base long-term. Inspired by the highly successful Pantheon event from Into the Light, the dungeon-based challenge gave Destiny 2 a short-lived burst of activity before it dwindled again. This could be partly attributed to how the studio communicated about the new weapon tiers, potentially creating confusion concerning the effectiveness of the event guns in The Edge of Fate's new sandbox.

The Edge of Fate's player count is a symptom of a long-embattled Bungie, facing two sets of layoffs between 2023 and 2024, plus lukewarm reception to most of the recent content and huge dissatisfaction throughout the year of The Final Shape.

Despite the dwindling player count, though, the new expansion still ranked among Steam's top sellers and gave a huge bump to the average player count for the time being. With the key changes coming with Edge of Fate, though—including the discontinuation of seasonal content as we knew it—it remains to be seen how the game will fare in the new Fate saga.

Cyberpunk 2077: V looking out at the city while leaning against a car and smoking.

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its anticipated Update 2.3 tomorrow. While it adds some cool stuff (and opens the game up to Mac users), it's certainly not one of its biggest. What's more, this update will probably be the game's last, and what a ride it has been to get here.

On July 17, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive its likely final patch. Bringing over a lot of new cool features, such as Delamain auto-driving your vehicle while you take cool screenshots. The game will also drop on Mac, finally allowing Apple users to play this amazing game and what's probably the only title letting you experience the cyberpunk genre the way it's meant to be experienced.

Cyberpunk 2077: the back of Johnny Silverhand as he walks forward.
Cyberpunk 2077 probably has the best world ever created for a video game, but no amount of updates could make it feel whole. Image via CD Projekt Red/Steam.

Since 2020, CDPR has been on a path of redemption and penance, putting out update after update to make Cyberpunk 2077 as close to the intended vision as possible.

The first bunch of updates were fine, but it wasn't until Update 2.0 that everyone went, "Yep, this is what Cyberpunk 2077 was meant to be." And sure, the update revitalized the game, which, after Edgerunners and Phantom Liberty came out, gained an entirely new reputation, one centered on its quality rather than its shortcomings.

Even so, Cyberpunk 2077 remains at best "the game that could." With one of the biggest open worlds out there, one'd expect it to be packed to the brim with content and opportunities. However, outside of your usual quests and side missions, there is honestly very little to do. And you can feel, at every rundown corner and corporate plaza, that CDPR intended to have stuff there. It just isn't, and probably never will be.

With Update 2.3, we will get cool new cars, camera modes, photo mode expansions, and so on, but no amount of patching and updating will ever fill the void that is "the game that could," with lacking features, content, missions, prologue, impactful decisions, and so on.

And perhaps it's better that way. It is a testament to how developers can and will fix things if given enough time, and that games, if they aspire to be something revolutionary, simply need more time in the oven.

Cyberpunk 2, I hope, will be much better in every way, shape, and form than its predecessor and will not require either a 2.0 milestone or 2.3 update to feel whole and "as it should be," all the while its true form remains elusive and distant in some developer's head half-way across the globe, existing only as "a dream that was Cyberpunk."

All in all, it's been one hell of a ride. CDPR proved it isn't the type to give up after a failed launch (looking at you, EA and Ubisoft), and we got the best deal possible outside the fictional "real" game. It also certainly helped CDPR rethink how it approaches development, rightfully avoiding early hype for its new games.
