Remember how the upcoming extraction shooter Arc Raiders was meant to launch in 2022? Good times! And quite different times, because back then the game was PvE, seeing you and a few friends take on some nasty bots. Three years on, the game has shifted into a PvPvE experience, and the reason for 1. such a lengthy delay, and 2. a complete change in what players actually do is a simple one: the game was "not fun."

What Do You Call This Trash Manga Explores Unhealthy Relationships

Sometimes, Yen Press picks up some fascinating one-volume manga that completely tell a self-contained story and offer different types of insights into personalities and relationships, and What Do You Call This Trash is a perfect example. Tetsukazu's story fills a substantial, 348-page tome that could probably have been divided into two installments. Instead, it offers a detailed look into a number of unhealthy relationships that develop due to certain personality traits and abuse and highlights how people recover from or reshape them as a result of personal developments. While disturbing to see how far individuals could go, it also ends up being heartening to see each recover and grow in their own way.

Editor's Note: There will be some mild spoilers for the What Do You Call This Trash manga and its relationships below.

Akira is an obsessive girl known for clearly having issues with anxiety, codependency, and disturbing behavior. She is in Yuuto's class and dated his older brother Kai briefly. Why? He saved her, and she obsessed over him as a result. They broke up due to her toxic mindset and behavior. However, because of his own background, a savior complex, and the fact that in some ways Akira can be "cute," he has a crush on her. But because she is still fanatical about Kai, he ends up assisting her in her continuing stalking endeavors so he can be close to her. At the same time, Kai seems to grasp something is wrong and wants to help his little brother, but doesn't know exactly what it is or how.

Right away in What Do You Call This Trash, the manga hits us with the two most obvious toxic relationships. Akira's fixation on Kai and the way she's acting on it, which involves hiding out in Yuuto's room so she can listen in on him and observe, stalking him outside of school, and even following his new girlfriend, is terrifying. It is completely wrong and we see Kai took measures to try and separate from her before this happened. At the same time, the "partnership" Yuuto and Akira created is just as horrifying. She's using him to get access and cross boundaries in an extremely unhealthy way. He's using this as an opportunity to gain access to a girl who needs serious therapy and crossing his own boundaries. These two dynamics are only causing pain to each of them in very visible ways, as well as harming someone unaware of the betrayal going on around him.

It's once we see those unhealthy relationships between Akira and both Kai and Yuuto that we also start to understand how messed up the relationship between the brothers is as a result. This is 100% Yuuto's fault, of course. There are story segments that highlight how close the brothers were in the past, with Kai looking out for his younger brother and Yuuto idolizing him. However, instead of repaying that loyalty, we see the younger brother allowing his older brother's boundaries to constantly be violated so he can be around his crush. As I read, I kept wondering how they could even go on as brothers after this. Like is what Yuuto is doing even forgivable?

We also get to a point at which we need to consider the relationships Kai is in, as well as the new arrangement that comes up with Akira. He's incredibly smart and astute. We can tell he grasps something is going on. It just takes him a bit of time and observation to realize what. However, he doesn't seem to understand the exact situation, which results in him taking action to protect Yuuto again. Yet at the same time, while it's understandable and noble in a way, it's also resulting in a choice that's incredibly unwise and damaging to yet another innocent individual.

What I appreciate about What Do You Call This Trash is that this could have been a manga about drama in toxic relationships, but Tetsukazu takes measures that seem to highlight just how bad things are. There are moments when Yuuto is definitely aware of how far he's fallen and bad things have gotten, and he does try to hold Akira back in her stalking of Kai. However, he's so caught up on his own that he's not willing to completely abandon her or put a halt to things. Kai likewise gets when things are going too far and, aside from some mistakes, makes wiser choices.

It's also helpful that Tetsukazu shows exactly what kinds of situations and backgrounds got everyone to where they are today. There's no excusing Akira's behavior. She is doing terrible things in her relationships with both Kai and Yuuto in the What Do You Call This Trash manga. But once we see her backstory, it at least makes sense. Likewise, we get glimpses at why Yuuto and Kai turned out and responded the way they did as well.

What Do You Call This Trash is definitely a manga filled with drama, but I also feel like Tetsukazu executed it in a way that it's pointing out exactly why toxic relationships are so terrifying and damaging. It never glorifies what happens. Instead, I felt like it was designed to show how people like Akira, Kai, and Yuuto ended up in these situations, why it's damaging to everyone involved, and how the best thing is to completely break those ties to look for a healthier way forward. It reads more as a cautionary tale, and I appreciated the way backstories are brought up and different sides are shown to highlight every element of the situations. I also appreciated the ending, which feels quite realistic and highlights the growth of different individuals once they come to terms with everything.

The sole volume of the What Do You Call This Trash manga is available via Yen Press now.

Dicehead in Megabonk trying to escape an enemy

Dicehead is one of the strongest characters in Megabonk, but you can make him "broken" with the right build.

Dicehead certainly takes a fair amount of time to unlock. You must complete 100 quests and obtain Dice, his signature weapon. This guide will help you maximize his passive ability and build a top-tier build.

If you want more builds, you can check out our big list of best builds, as well as additional character-specific builds, right here!

Best Dicehead weapons in Megabonk

With Dicehead, it's best to enhance with his signature weapon. Dice is the best weapon in the entire game for raising crit chance. The buffs are permanent and can stack infinitely, so the scaling starts feeling like a cheat as you keep scaling up the Crit Chance.

Type Best Choices Good Choices
Weapons Dice
Revolver
Aura
Lightning Staff
Bone
Bananarang
Tomes Damage
Precision
XP
Luck
Attack Speed
Projectile Speed
Items Forbidden Juice
Gym Sauce
Overpowered Lamp
Turbo Socks
Turbo Skates

After a certain point, every attack from Dicehead is guaranteed to be a crit attack. I've tested a few other weapons, which I have mentioned below. You can try them out, but Dice, by far, is your best choice.

  • Revolver: This weapon works well with any crit-focused build. I do not like its aim, but it could work well for you.
  • Aura: Dicehead's passive is one of the strongest in the game, removing the requirement of using Shrinnes. You'll be consistently farming XP and scaling up his modifiers with Aura.
  • Lightning Staff: If you want a bit of AoE effects with your attacks, you can go for Lightning Staff.

If you want to rank high on the leaderboard, go with Dice for the best results.

Best Dicehead tomes in Megabonk

We will go for tomes that improve the crit, damage, or empower Dicehead's passive.

  • Damage tome: On the one hand, Dice will help you improve the crit of Dicehead. Increasing the damage will double the benefits, as you'll hit guaranteed crits simultaneously.
  • Crit Damage tome: If Dice's crit boosts aren't enough, you can improve the damage caused by all crit hits. At one point, this will translate into guaranteed additional damage (when every attack becomes a fixed crit strike).

XP tome and Luck tome are two other favorites. One allows you to level up Dicehead quicker, while the other will help you find better tomes and items on your run.

The strategy with Dicehead is simple. You'll want to be on the move in the early game since you'll be at your weakest. Survivability will be key as you keep stacking the auto-buffs. Dicehead's passive provides a random buff whenever he levels up.

These buffs aren't as strong as those from Shrines, but you can keep stacking them infinitely (unlike Shrines). Every buff Dicehead gains this way is permanent in nature. These effects are random, but they all build up nicely. I haven't found such scaling for any other character in the game's current build.

Combined with Dice's crit buffs, the effects will turn Dicehead into a nuker by mid-game. Endgame is when Dicehead is at his strongest, as all hits with my recommended build will be guaranteed critical strikes. On top of that, you'll be dealing more damage, and a few other buffs will provide you with the necessary sustains required to recover your health.

A man holding a pistol to the side and looking at the camera in the promotional material of Black Ops 7.

Black Ops 7 is looking up as Treyarch has introduced a new SBMM-free playlist called Open Moshpit, where player skill is "minimally considered," unlike in other official modes. Fans have reacted overwhelmingly positively to the addition, praising instant queue times and significantly more satisfying gameplay.

As part of the Black Ops 7 open beta, currently only available to those who've pre-ordered the game or own Game Pass PC, Console, or Ultimate, Treyarch has decided to introduce two new playlists: Moshpit and Open Moshpit. The latter is largely the same as the former, though without SBMM and minimal skill consideration for matchmaking. This makes it way more in line with traditional Call of Duty, which matched players based on ping and other metrics, rather than skill.

The fan reaction? Overwhelmingly positive. One player said the new mode "feels incredible," and that they feel "like [they're] actually playing Call of Duty again." YouTuber SoaR Rxqe observed that queue times in the playlist were near-instantaneous, with matches searching in the low ping range (sub-18ms) rather than the sub-100ms that they would usually see before. "Ping may actually be king again," they said.

Another fan noted that their "first five games in the Open Moshpit are the most fun I've had playing CoD in years." Across the board, everyone seems to be excited about this new mode, asking only that persistent lobbies come back alongside this SBMM-free experience.

SBMM has been a controversial part of Call of Duty and many other games for years now, with many perceiving it as unfair and made to artificially increase or lower win rates to even out at 50 percent. With this classic mode, that's more or less gone, with other metrics taken into consideration over skill itself.

bringing an assault rifle to a sword duel in Kingmakers

Sometimes, a delay hits you just like hot tar and feathers. Especially when the game was seemingly dead set to come out and looked really damn fun, like Kingmakers.

Yes, not even a whole week before the game was going to come out on early access, Redemption Road, the studio behind the massively ambitious and sixth most-wishlisted title on Steam, announced Kingmakers would get delayed so it could get some needed polish, and didn't mention a new release window.

https://twitter.com/Kingmakers_Game/status/1974144040942625003

Delays are acceptable and definitely preferable to having a company release a game that costs a lot of money and is nearly unplayable. Still, it's impossible not to find such a late notice worrisome.

Is Kingmakers vaporware?

Not everyone shares the same level of expertise in the complex development cycles of the video game industry, so it's no shame to sometimes fall for a ruse. But many are still reeling from things like The Day Before, a game that was promoted as the next big thing throughout some delays, but then turned out to be anything but. That's an extreme case, but gamers don't forget and are quick to associate things, even when there's no real connection to be made.

Kingmakers exists as a game and must already be in a somewhat playable state. It's also easy to understand how such a complex and ambitious project, one featuring battles with literal thousands of NPCs in fully destructible environments, might be a pain to get to work The problem is, the better the game looks the more people might wonder if it was fake all along, and Kingmakers looks so much better than even The Day Before's best fake promotions ever did.

https://twitter.com/Kingmakers_Game/status/1929956825589584144

Twitter users were quick to point out that when a game needs to be delayed, the devs know about it many weeks before the release, so some degree of backlash is now inevitable. Here's hoping this is but the result of the studio successfully fighting off pressure to release an unplayable game ahead of time.

How good could Kingmakers be?

Kingmaker's announcement trailer was amazing. It showed off great graphics, massive scope, and looked like one hell of a lot of fun from the get-go. But that wasn't all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x2gY7CjDKs

What really sold people on the trailer is how it keeps on upping the ante long after you were already sold on it. The entire premise of the game is ludicrous, but it doesn't matter, as it just looks fun enough to look the other way.

It looked almost too good, too fun, to be true, but sometimes we get games coming out of nowhere that absolutely rock our world. This is the year of Expedition 33, after all.

The post Please don't let Kingmakers, the game that looked too good to be true, be just that appeared first on Destructoid.

Anthony Elanga performing a Griddy in FC 26

The Griddy has always remained a favorite celebration for the FC 26 community (for many reasons), and contrary to popular beliefs, you can perform it inside the game.

Of course, Ultimate Team players who played FC 25 might have done what is needed to complete an objective that allows you to unlock the Griddy. If you check the complete list of celebrations, you won't find a mention of it. However, there's a way (albeit limited) to bring out your toxicity with the celebration in FC 26.

How to perform the Griddy in FC 26

The exact method of performing the Griddy varies slightly based on the mode. If you have played FC 25, you might have come across the Griddy to Glory objective in Ultimate Team. It was released in August, and you had to complete the whole objective, which spanned six days.

If you have completed the objective, you'll gain the item soon (expected around Oct. 14). Once you receive it, you can equip it from Stadium in Ultimate Team. Press the X/A button with a footballer to perform it as the signature celebration. This is only possible with footballers who don't have their own signatures.

If you don't want to wait, or maybe you never played FC 25, don't fret. There's still a way for you to do the Griddy, and it's not restricted to Ultimate Team. If you're playing in Kickoff, pick Newcastle United. Bring Anthony Elanga into the starting squad and proceed to score a goal with him. Then press the X/A button, and watch the magic happen.

Anthony Elanga performing a Griddy in FC 26
Screenshot by Destructoid

This is possible as Elanga has the Griddy as his signature celebration. This is the only reason he could be the only footballer in the entire game to perform the Griddy. Whether EA Sports assigns the celebration to another footballer is a matter for the future.

For now, pick Newcastle United and score with Anthony Elanga to perform the Griddy. Incidentally, the old controls of this celebration now trigger Cristiano Ronaldo's signature Nap.

EA Games logo.

So, the Saudis and American private equity are buying out Electronic Arts in what's turned out to be the biggest leveraged buyout in US history. A lot of smoke has risen as a result, with people fearing this could spell the end of the company. But I'm inclined to disagree.

Privatization is a good thing, all things considered. EA has long been a publicly traded company, working in a quarterly, short-term manner, prioritizing pleasing shareholders over anything else. These people, who are merely investors and have little to no knowledge of games, more than likely pressured EA into following certain market trends, disregarding artistic integrity in favor of chasing after pop culture, hoping to cash in on that current "craze with the kids."

And it often failed, quite miserably so.

Outside the sports genre, where EA more or less has a monopoly with Madden and FC dominating the football industry on both sides of the pond, it has been doing less than well over the past decade or so.

Its last great shooter was Battlefield 1, the successors marred with issues and problems and failing to captivate a big enough audience; BioWare is literally on the edge, having failed to produce a performative, high-quality RPG for over a decade; Need for Speed is indefinitely shelved, losing out to racing competitors like Forza and Gran Turismo, among others.

A lot of what EA does and has done is aimed at appealing to certain audiences—not in a meaningful, in-depth, or relatable way, but rather through pandering, poor writing, and forced messaging, regardless of the context. The result? Low sales, a receding fandom, and an unclear future for many studios under its umbrella.

new season in skate
Skate is only another live-service EA game following a model that prioritizes quarterly gains. Image via EA

What's been doing well for EA is, as I've mentioned, sports games, raking in a lot of cash, which, alongside the company's pivot to promoting its old but gold games (with 90 percent discounts every two months), was the basis of its financial success for a long time.

But that's also because they hold a monopoly in that space, and it was only a matter of time before someone else swooped in to compete, given that FIFA has not renewed its licensing deal with EA and is looking for a new buyer.

Battlefield 6 does look promising, but that comes after a decade of failed investments and trend-chasing, with the shareholders seemingly allowing the creatives to finally work on something themselves. And that brings me to the positives of privatization.

With this buyout, the creatives will have less bureaucracy to deal with. What used to be boardrooms and dozens of people in conference calls will be reduced to probably a single CEO who reports to the owners. Direct control means streamlined processes, and determining what works and what does not is almost instantaneous.

Privately controlled enterprises also tend to do things more efficiently, rarely scaling up or down to meet quarterly numbers. This is probably the most important bit: without having to control how the shares are valued, EA will have a lot taken off its back and be able to prioritize long-term strategies over those that make that Q3 number green and the arrow pointing up.

A lot more planning can thus go into every single game, each individual product. What can make us the most money in the long run, instead of what's going to work for us this week? A direct, quick, and streamlined decision-making process is bound to function better than having hundreds constantly bicker and ask about your short-term finances because they "own" less than one percent of the company.

Solksjaer Hero card in FC 26
Microtransactions have been the driving force behind EA's finances for years. Game sales, not so much. Remix by Destructoid via EA Sports

Those involved in the buyout are cause for skepticism, though. The American private equity firms are likely not going to be as bad in their influence over EA's creative side as the Saudi Arabian PIF. The sovereign wealth fund, directly controlled by Saudi heir apparent Mohammed bin Salman, can and probably will impact how creativity is expressed in the company.

PIF-owned studios tend to implement similar trend-chasing elements into their games and products, such as placing Ronaldo in a fighting game or otherwise promoting certain pop culture influencers or characters in places they don't belong. It's a mixed bag, and a controversial one, given that Saudi Arabia is a place of horrible human rights violations, among other things.

But how influential PIF is, and how everything will be shaped, is yet to be seen. PIF is not alone in this venture, and I dare say that huge firms aren't always "the big bad."

Tencent has purchased half the gaming industry, and what happened? Most of them turned out fine. Hell, some have even directly improved as a result. Now, was that always the case? No, certainly not, but someone buying out a company, even if they come from a controversial state or background, does not always result in a catastrophe.

Additionally, I fail to see how EA's new owners would axe or butcher things that work. If Battlefield 6 does well, I don't get how or why they would step in to put a stop to that. The same goes for other games and studios under EA. If they work, if they perform, and if it's found that creative liberty does beget profit, I'm confident we'll get better games when that success is combined with private ownership.

It can and will probably mean that studios like BioWare will get shut down, but let's face it: it was bound to happen anyhow. EA itself, before the buyout, closed down and cancelled countless games and studios, and took offline even more of them each year. All this to increase next quarter's profits, to prove to a handful of people that things are looking up, even when they're crashing all around.

A private enterprise, with long-term goals in mind, can and will function better, but we'll have to wait and see how the PIF's role in this whole ordeal plays out, as they remain, by far, the sole reason why I'm a bit scared for EA's future.

Otherwise, I don't think the privatization aspect is bad—far from it.

Which Hero should you pick?

If you're going with market costs, your choice should be Alex Scott, followed by Solskjær and Beasley, respectively. However, you should first consider your current squad and its needs. Here are the stats and positions of the three cards.

  • Ole Solksjaer ST 86
  • DaMarcus Beasley LM 85
  • Alex Scott RB 85

Solksjaer and Scott will be better picks since the former fits into a Premier League Squad, while the latter will have better chemistry with English cards (the first season's theme). My favorite of the three is Alex Scott, as she has the most meta cards.

Having Jockey+ for a defender is necessary in the current meta. It allows you to move and defend better. Solksjaer's Finesse Shot+ is also pretty beneficial, but you can work around that with the help of Precision Shooting (to some extent). If you need a wide attacker, Beasley is the one to opt for.

An image of Black Ops 6

The Black Ops 7 beta is currently active, but currently only for those who have pre-purchased the game. As such, Treyarch is doing a lot of testing and collecting feedback, and has introduced a queue for precisely that purpose: Open Moshpit, a collection of modes that will have "minimal" skill consideration.

Two new playlists are coming to the Black Ops 7 beta, Moshpit and Open Moshpit, Treyarch has announced. Both are going to contain those game modes usually found within them: Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, Hardpoint, and Overload. However, Open Moshpit "features classic matchmaking where skill is minimally considered," meaning it won't have SBMM in the same way the regular queue does.

This is huge news for all Call of Duty fans, who have been complaining about SBMM and its execution for years now. Removing that provides a random, classic matchmaking feel, where every game can be comprised of players with all sorts of skill levels, as this is "minimally considered" in the new Open Moshpit playlist.

I, for one, am very excited about this, as this has been a major gripe I've had with Call of Duty for a while. It's an issue I have with Battlefield 6, which will also feature a form of SBMM, albeit for team balancing purposes in-match, rather than for lobby creation.

So, if you have access or will jump into the BO7 open beta, rejoice that you'll finally be able to have that classic CoD matchmaking experience with this new playlist.

GTA 6 Jason Lucia car

I really want GTA 6 to run on my Steam Deck. Yeah, I know that's as absurd as wishing Game Pass would go back to its old pricing, but a man can dream.

We are here for the steamy stuff

This hope I have that I might be able to play GTA 6 on Valve's handheld is simply because of the hardware convenience—and the fact that I already own one. Playing any game on my couch on the Steam Deck is much better than sitting in front of the PC I use for work every day.

Thousands, if not millions, of other players agree with me and also want to use the Steam Deck to play more GTA, because they already are. The two versions of GTA V, Legacy and Enhanced, are the only two titles listed as "unsupported" on the Steam Deck that are in the top 100 most played games on the handheld over the last month. That means even though the Deck's best features aren't available for GTA V, players still find a way to make it playable and enjoyable on the console.

GTA fans are sending a message to Rockstar that they would play GTA 6 if it were released on the Steam Deck. But there's a big issue with making that happen, and it's not whether Valve wants to support it.

The Steam Deck would heat until it turned into a flamethrower if it tried to run GTA 6. Its hardware will likely not meet the game's minimum requirements. The handheld's processor and GPU are already insufficient to handle recent AAA releases like Borderlands 4, or to run the likes of Monster Hunter: World and Resident Evil: Village above 30 FPS. Since expectations for GTA 6's scope are already through the roof, it's reasonable to think it will be more demanding than all the games I've mentioned.

One way to make it work

The only hope is that the Steam Deck 2 is released in the meantime. A new version would be the only way to have a hardware upgrade big enough to run GTA 6. But for such a big Valve launch to happen, the company would have to make a surprise announcement within the next month or two so that preorders and production have enough time to deliver the console close to GTA 6's release.

But there's no indication a new Steam Deck is coming. The most we've heard so far is rumors that the Steam Deck 2 could come in 2028, and that's not an official announcement. We also have no idea when GTA 6 will be out on PC, because the May 26, 2026 release date is exclusive for PS5 and Xbox consoles, with Rockstar saying a PC version will come at a later, undefined date.

Luckily, there's an alternative for people like me who are stubborn enough and really want to run GTA 6 on the Deck. To do so, you need to have a gaming PC that can run GTA 6 when it's out. Then, use Steam Link to stream the game to your Deck, which requires a decent internet connection on both devices. Then, you'll be offloading all the hard work to run the game to your PC while playing it on the Deck.

While that's not the optimal solution, it will probably be the only one to play GTA 6 on the Steam Deck close to its release date. Or maybe just hope Valve's competitors are quicker and release a more powerful handheld PC in 2026.

Blitzcrank against Illaoi in 2XKO

2XKO will soon be available in early access, and it could be the next big adventure for fighting game fans.

Of course, many of us had an early taste of things during the closed beta, but the early access period will be available for all. If you're confused about when open access starts, this guide has you covered.

2XKO early access release countdown

While the closed beta has been quite fun, the early access will mark the official launch of 2XKO. You'll enjoy a continued progression, seasons, and more. The following countdown marks the moment when the early access goes live across all regions of the world.

[hurrytimer id="1125887"]

The countdown is based on the following timings.

  • 8am PDT (Oct. 7)
  • 10am CDT (Oct. 7)
  • 11am EDT (Oct. 7)
  • 3pm UTC (Oct. 7)
  • 4pm BST (Oct. 7)
  • 5pm CEST (Oct. 7)
  • 12am JST (Oct. 8)
  • 1am AEST (Oct. 8)

While 2XKO is expected to arrive on consoles eventually, early access will be exclusively available for PC users. The early access also marks the beginning of Season 0. According to Riot, there are plans for five more seasons next year. The full roster will be available for all players, with Teemo being the latest entrant. All progress from your closed beta will be wiped, as everyone will begin from the same point. It will be interesting to find out what more Riot has in store for us come Oct. 7.
