A boss in LORT

The gun is arguably one of the coolest weapons to use in LORT, and you can use it irrespective of the adventurer you pick.

However, the weapon will remain locked at first, and doesn't appear as random loot until you complete a specific achievement. This guide will make it easy for you to obtain the gun for the first time in LORT, which will then add it to the pool of possible spawns.

How to unlock the gun in LORT

Almost every weapon in LORT is locked when you start playing for the first time. To unlock the weapon, you'll need to complete a specific task. For the gun, you'll need to discover it on the map. This isn't an easy task since LORT doesn't have a traditional map (at least not to my knowledge).

The grave where you find the gun in LORT
Image via Big Distraction

The gun always appears on top of the grave shown in the image above. This will be true until you have found it for the first time. When you find it, you can add it to your adventurer. It doesn't matter if you're playing a melee or a ranged adventurer. Of course, using it with a ranged character is going to have certain advantages.

How to get the gun in LORT

Once you've unlocked the gun, it will appear randomly on your run. It could be obtained from a chest that you unlock with gold. The item can also drop from certain enemies randomly. Weapon items typically drop from harder enemies, so try to slay some of the more challenging foes. Ultimately, it's all down to luck whether you get it once you have unlocked it.

Players blowing the horn in LORT

Indie sensation LORT is creating quite an impression among fans, and it's a perfect title to play with your buddy.

While LORT can be perfectly played on your own, you can choose to play with others in co-op. As of writing, there's no power scaling; if you play with more people, you'll have an obvious advantage. Let's quickly look at how you can play with other players.

How to play LORT with your friends

There are two ways to play with your buddies. To make things easier, add them to your Steam friendlist. Once done, load it into the game.

You can interact with the portal that allows you to invite your Steam friends. Once you send an invite, they simply need to accept. They will then be added to your lobby, and all of you'll be able to play together. You can also invite your friends from the pause menu during a round.

Alternatively, you can also join using the lobby code from the main menu. It lets you invite people who aren't on your Steam friend list.

How many players can play together in LORT

As of writing, up to eight players can play together in the same lobby. Of course, it's not necessary to play with eight. However, having more players will give you a massive advantage and allow you to solve the quests more quickly. A full party also dramatically raises your chances of success, which might be vital towards getting a longer run.

Is there any matchmaking in LORT

Unfortunately, there's no form of matchmaking currently available in LORT at the time of writing. That could change in the future with an update. However, you can only play with your friends in the current build, or by joining with a code.

A matriarch in ARC Raiders.

ARC Raiders recently got a new roadmap, outlining what Embark Studios is planning to add to the game over the next few months.

The first update to drop is Headwinds, which is set to bring a new queue, map conditions, and more to ARC Raiders.

So, here's everything you should know about it.

Everything we know about the ARC Raiders Headwinds update

The new update will likely be tied to the desert maps. Image via Embark Studios

ARC Raiders' recently unveiled roadmap projected several major updates to come between January and April, including a new map at the end of this first cycle for 2026. However, the first update is Headwinds, which has been confirmed to come out on Jan. 27, or two days from this article.

As for what it'll entail, details are still scarce, though here's what we could deduce from both the roadmap and some promotional material shared by Embark Studios:

  • It'll introduce a new matchmaking option that'll allow players level 40 and above to queue separately from the rest of the community. This'll foster high-level play and keep it in its own league, with lower-leveled players of more casual leanings playing in their own tier.
  • A new map condition that'll probably be themed around sandstorms and deserts, possibly bringing Buried City vibes to the rest of the game's maps. It could also be exclusive to the desert maps, i.e. Spaceport and Buried City, adding variety and thematic depth to already rich environments.
  • A new "player project" similar to the Expeditions and the Flickering Flames event. It'll require you to bring in specific loot and complete various tasks in exchange for major rewards upon completion. If we're to take the above into account, the event will possibly be tied to the Buried City and Spaceport maps, though it could take place across the entire game.

Embark Studios loves being hush-hush about what exactly it brings into the game with its updates, and so we'll have to hold on until Jan. 27 when the Headwinds update finally drops and unveils to us what it is that it's bringing along.

Henry Cavill playing an astronaut character in Star Citizen.

Star Citizen is nowhere near release, even after spending almost 14 years in development. It's now almost old enough to go to high school, and yet we're still longing to see any sort of accurate release date. And while that's probably familiar to many of you, some players are only now learning of how undeveloped Star Citizen actually is.

"I didn't realize how dire the state of Star Citizen was," says the title of a Reddit post made by user CapytanHook, who heard of Star Citizen and its decade-and-a-half-long development journey, but never actually understood what state it's actually in.

"It's just so incomplete and lifeless," they said, adding that "missions are painfully repetitive," that there are many bugs, that "ground PVE combat is a joke," and so on and so forth. While it does look amazing and has great potential, Star Citizen really does need more time in the oven, which begs the question of whether the oven's been on for the past 14 years at all.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1qmf40q/i_didnt_realise_how_dire_the_state_of_star/

Those responding to the post parroted much of the sentiment that's been surrounding Star Citizen for years now, that is, if you're not part of the community that forked over $935 million since 2012.

They called it a scam, a glorified tech demo, and a game that'll probably never see the light of day because its "dream" is as much of a product as the game itself. It's a project that thrives on the "what if" and the "what is to come" rather than something made to release with a set of established features.

The promise is the key here, and it'll probably keep growing so long as people believe in it.

However, even those who did at some point back the game up and trust its potential didn't have the best things to say. One user indicated that Star Citizen should "add more features to a functional stable core," rather than "adding more and more stuff to a house of cards barely holding together as it is." Others agreed with the sentiment and offered comments not unlike the one outlined in the initial post.

So what is the future of Star Citizen, then? To be completely honest, I can't really tell. Squadron 42 might come out in the next couple of years, maybe, to try and justify all the money it has spent on A-list Hollywood actors, but as for Star Citizen itself, I fail to see it ever releasing in any real capacity.

It might get a shadow launch that's 1.0-but-not-really, one that continues the impression and the promise of the "dream" while actually being out there on the market and on platforms like Steam. However, that is still likely a decade away if it ever comes, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

And it's a shame, truly, because some of the technologies developed for Star Citizen itself (especially server tech) are actually impressive, though likely forever stuck between a rock and a hard place at Cloud Imperium Games.

Broken controller logo of the Stop Killing Games Initiative

Stop Killing Games, a European citizens' initiative that has now successfully triggered a binding vote to protect gamers' consumer rights by the European Commission, has finally had all of its signatures tallied and verified. With over 1,2 million valid total signatures, the petition proves that gamers truly can rally behind a good cause when it's needed.

As confirmed by Moritz Katzner, one of the key individuals behind the initiative, the signatures have now been validated, and the initiative has passed muster. The final count of valid signatures is 1,294,188, which is about ~90 percent of the total count pre-validation, and almost 300,000 above the requisite goal.

This final count proves two things: one, that Stop Killing Games and its cause were perceived as righteous enough to attract nearly 1.3 million EU citizens; and two, that Ross Scott and his crew coordinated such a massive movement so successfully that it became one of the EU's most successful citizen initiatives of all time.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StopKillingGames/comments/1qluxts/stop_killing_games_final_count_of_verified/

It's a testament to how the gaming community can band together and fight for their own rights, calling out megacorporations and AAA powerhouses for their anti-consumer practices. To think this started with Ubisoft's random move to shut down The Crew (aside from shutting down dozens of other games alongside EA and other publishers) is sort of incredible.

So many games get axed every month basically that it's become the norm, but something struck a nerve with people in the case of The Crew, and I'm more than glad that it did.

Stop Killing Games' leadership now has meetings with the EU Commission to attend, as said in the announcement above, though that does not guarantee the initiative's success. A long war is now ahead, with the first major step finally behind us.

If it does emerge victorious in the end, gamers in the EU (and perhaps the world) stand to regain those rights that they once held during the golden age of physical media, where no unseen hand can flip the switch on your game or service, rendering it unplayable for all eternity.

Pink Bolete, as seen in Arknights Endfield.

Power in Arknights Endfield directly corresponds with how efficient your base is, and you'll need to raise the capacity whenever you get a chance.

The default capacity of 200 power is alright when you're just starting your adventure. However, it will start falling short as you expand your base. Less power means that your base will stop all its operations. Here's how you can go past the 200 power barrier and keep improving your base's capacity in Arknights Endfield.

How to increase base power capacity in Arknights Endfield

The secret of increasing your base power capacity is to research and build a special structure called the Thermal Bank. You unlock the Thermal Bank after clearing the first few hours of what the game has to offer.

A Thermal Bank in Arknights: Endfield
Screenshot by Destructoid

Thermal Banks require fuel to run, but they increase the base power capacity. When you place the first one, it will bypass the default limit of 200 power for your base. Keep stacking more on your base, and you'll be able to raise the power further. However, you'll also need to keep plenty of Originium Ore, which is required to fuel the Thermal Banks.

How to build a Thermal Bank in Arknights Endfield

To build a Thermal Bank, you're going to unlock it from the Basic AIC Plan II. First, you'll have to continue along the main story until you've unlocked the second Basic AIC Plan. Then, you'll need to unlock the Power I node upgrade.

Basic AIC Plan Research in Arknights: Endfield

Once done, you'll now be able to make Thermal Banks and place them on your base.

Once again, always keep the Thermal Banks well-fuelled. Otherwise, your base and its structures will cease to operate the moment the power limit goes down (due to the non-functional Thermal Banks).

Kalkonyx, as seen in Arknights Endfield.

Similar to how boletes can be used to ascend operators past the initial phase, Arknights Endfield players must expend Kalkonyx to tune their weapons and make sure their gear keeps up as they advance.

But as the rare resources are finite and respawn slowly, knowing exactly where to look can save you a lot of time and guarantee you will be able to always have enough to ascend that 6-star pull. Here are all of the Kalkonyx locations in Arknights Endfield and how to farm the mineral efficiently.

All Arknights Endfield Kalkonyx locations

You can get Kalkonyx in Arknights Endfield by mining at rare sites in the first four Valley IV areas. More specifically, you can find two sites on The Hub, located in the Core AC Area and Originium Byproduct Processing Center, as well as one on Velley Pass, one in the Originium Research Park, and one on Aburrey Quarry. You can check out the exact location of each mentioned spawn below, each initially featuring 6 Kalkonyx ores.

  • All Kalkonyx locations in The Hub.
  • All Valley Pass Kalkonyx locations.
  • All Aburrey Quarry Kalkonyx locations in Arknights Endfield.
  • All Originium Science Park Kalkonyx locations in Arknights Endfield.

Keep in mind that, apart from the Kalkonyx, you will also need to expend 5x Cast Dies to tune any weapon to level 20/40 in Endfield. You can get the dies by either completing the Protocol Space: Weapon Tune Challenge at The Hub or via the Acquisition Center. The latter won't demand paid currencies or gacha rewards, so there's no reason to worry.

The best way to farm Kalkonyx in Arknights Endfield

Once you are done with the spots above, the best way to farm Kalkonyx in Arknights Endfield is via the Growth Chamber. You can unlock the chamber by leveling up your Control Nexus level to 2, something only achievable after advancing in the main story.

Once the facility is unlocked, you will be able to literally farm the material by using its seeds. You can get the seeds by expending Kalkonyxv while in the chamber, with each unit netting you three. They won't be available immediately, though, with each seed needing over 17 hours to grow.

How to acquire Kalkonyx seeds with the Growing Chamber.

If you want, you can also buy 3 units of the material at Anton's Garden Shop in the Hub's Worker Dorms. The area can be easily reached by going past the restocking center. Each unit will then cost 300 Stock Bills.
