In Another World My Sister Stole My Name Has Great Cliffhangers manga

Sometimes, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the In Another World My Sister Stole My Name manga. Like the whole plot could be resolved if the heroine Ichika just got the other three leads in the same room and spoke up. Which means it can feel a bit dragged out. However, I will say that I appreciate the use of cliffhangers between volumes in In Another World My Sister Stole My Name, as the Kotoko and NiKrome manga is fantastic at stringing us along and teasing us into reading the next volume.

Editor's Note: There are some mild spoilers for the In Another World My Sister Stole My Name manga up through volume 3.

As a quick refresher, in case you haven't been following the manga series, In Another World My Sister Stole My Name is an identity theft isekai story. Ichika had found a mirror that let her communicate with a prince named Cecil in another world. Some years ago, her older sister Karen disappeared. She went into that other world. The story begins with Ichika also being transported there. She learns these types of visitors are considered Saints with special abilities. However, Karen assumed Ichika's name and identity upon arriving there and, due to how time passes between said worlds, Cecil is all grown up and her fiance. As the other new saint, the actual Ichika (as Karen) is named the fiance of the second prince of the kingdom named Noah. And so far across three volumes, actual-Ichika hasn't spoken up.

She's really passive about the situation! While this was generally fine in the first volume, it starts to get a bit cumbersome in the second. By the third, I honestly felt a bit frustrated with Ichika. I get what she's dealing with here. However, as she's getting closer to both Cecil and Noah, it becomes annoying that she isn't at least trying to clear things up with one of them. Especially since Karen-pretending-to-be-Ichika is clearly painted as a villain and engaged in nefarious activities.

However, while that is frustrating, the execution for the cliffhangers in each volume have been really good, and the third volume of In Another World My Sister Stole My Name manga features the best one yet. In the first one, we see Ichika-as-Karen as the target of a curse and attack. Noah realized something was going on and got in the way. That was a great "pause" between the two books and left things in a very compelling spot. Who attacked Ichika? Why? Will Noah be okay? Kotoko also answered that swiftly in volume 2, which helped.

Volume 2 involved similar situations. Until that point in the series, there haven't been too many extended sequences in which all four characters are forced together. The end of that book confirmed that in the third, both couples will be sent to Romly on a mission together. There's also a hint that someone is sort of looking out for and interested in real-Ichika. The first chapters of the third volume immediately get into those new situations and, once again, deliver satisfactory resolutions.

But the best part is the end of the third volume. Finally, finally it seems like things are going to come to light in a way. There's no confirmation what will happen or how it will go. But the promise of the cliffhanger in volume 3 of In Another World My Sister Stole My Name is enough to make it feel like yes, the next one will be worthwhile and a must-buy for me.

Even though In Another World My Sister Stole My Name is a bit of a slow moving manga, the execution of Kotoko's cliffhangers really keep it moving along. From ones teasing attacks to revelations about characters, they do a great job of making you feel like it's imperative that you get and read the next volume. However, the one downside I noticed is that the breaks between volumes and organization of chapters means there can sometimes be stretches that feel like there isn't enough development or the story is being dragged out. I'm still enjoying myself, but I'm glad some of the identity theft issues seem to be closer to coming to light.

Volume 3 of In Another World My Sister Stole My Name is available now, and Yen Press hasn't announced a release date for volume 4.

Omni-man fighting with his son in Invincible VS.

Invincible VS, a fighting game based on the popular animated and comic book series, is slated to launch next year. It's also featured in EVO 2025, where Destructoid had the opportunity to speak with its Lead Combat Designer, John Bautista.

Bautista shared valuable insight into the team's experience with fighting games, specifically Killer Instinct, as well as details on Invincible VS's game design, approach, inspirations, character roster and mechanics, and more.

Note: Parts of this interview were edited to improve the reading experience.

Three super villains, two men and a woman, all clad in white, stand menacingly in the streets in Invincible VS.
Invincible VS is based directly on the popular TV and comic book series. Image via Quarter UP

I wanted to, first of all, discuss, obviously, the team's previous involvement in Killer Instinct. I wanted to know how the team has taken those lessons learned at Killer Instinct and then built on that for such a huge IP that Invincible VS is right now.

John Bautista (Lead Combat Designer for Invincible VS): So several of us were originally on the Double Helix team, so Killer Instinct 2013. To be perfectly honest, pretty much everything we learned throughout that experience, we tried to figure out applications for, because there was a lot that we learned throughout that entire development cycle. We applied a lot to that, to the core foundation of the game itself, so the movement, the character[s], character interactions, hitboxes, frame data, all of the above, all the foundational elements. But one of the biggest bits of nuance that we discovered during the development of Killer Instinct was how interesting the two-way interaction was with the counter system.

And as we're developing a tag fighter, we're trying to figure out how to get that two-way interaction into a tag fighter, but make it make sense? And that was actually one of the biggest hurdles that we had to kind of get over, because, you know, tag fighters are all about combos. It's, "How high can I make this combo go? How many hits can I get? Can I catch a break?" All of that stuff. And we don't want to take away from the player's fun. We want to make sure any sort of interaction we include is organic, and we managed to include picking and choosing when we're allowing those potential breaks to happen through our assist breakers and our counter tags. And the way we're doing that is [in] our layering the foundation for our system, we picked and chose opportunities to include those breaking mechanics.

And throughout the years of testing and working [on] FGC, we managed to land on this really solid foundation of these fun back-and-forth interactions that include a lot of mind games that made Killer Instinct so popular and so successful in what it was doing, and we felt that we landed on something sweet.

It's interesting you bring up tag fighters, because there seems to be a big abundance of tag fighters available now. I just wondered if you could touch on what the team is bringing to tag fighters to make it different, so it doesn't feel like every other tag fighter on the market right now.

Bautista: So one of our big emphases when we first started thinking about how we could put together a tag fighter was, of course, reviewing what previous tag fighters had done. And one of the biggest things we discovered was people were often scared to bring in their assist or to actually tag freely, because there was all the risk of like, oh yeah, if I do this at the wrong time, that character is dead. And so we tried to figure out different ways to mitigate that, in different avenues.

On top of that, we're also trying to figure out different ways to emphasize your wanting to utilize your teammates as much as possible. We don't want this to be like, oh, yeah, you bring them on [for] very small opportunities to emphasize certain attacks. We're like, no, like, utilize them as much as you can. By doing so, you're increasing the number of hits you can get. You're mitigating risk. You're adding different opportunities to convert on combos and so on and so forth. And by doing so, we kind of landed on this really active flow for the combo systems.

So some of the unique mechanics that we included, going back to the two-way interactions, is we have something called the assist breaker. So while you're getting hit in the middle of a combo, you can actually bring in your assist to disrupt your opponent's combo. But it's not free. You know, there's a big hit for your cooldown. It costs two bars of what we call the boost gauge. And then on top of that is if your opponent actually anticipates you calling in your assist breaker, if they pop a super at just the right time, they get in Happy Birthday, because they're gonna blast right through that and maximize their damage. It's really cool, [and], like I said, that mindgame, the back and forth interaction is awesome to see in-game.

Let's actually just talk about this game, because I think it's very important. It's obviously an Invincible IP that has a huge history behind it. You have a lot of material to work with, not just with the show that's become popular, but the comic books. I was wondering where the team looks at when designing a character's fighting style and such, and where you take your main inspirations from to turn it from what you've already seen to something that works in a fighting game.

Bautista: So our main inspiration is everything, to be perfectly honest. Whenever we're about to start working on a character, we always do deep dives. We look at everything available on the character's past, such as what their appearances were in the show and the comic books, and if they have any adjacent appearances in other media whatsoever. And then we draw upon that to figure out what are some key moments, what are some key beats? Like, what was really cool about this character, and how do we take that and incorporate it into the game?

We also take opportunities to really delve into characters' personalities [and] their backstories. There are a lot of cheeky nods to backstories for different characters. If you look at Bulletproof, there's a very specific moment in the comic book that we're referencing with his Ultimate, and it's one of those little things where, like, if we have a chance to do that, we're gonna do that.

And all these characters have a very vast, broad history that we can draw upon. And so it takes a lot of research, but once we get in there, we try to figure out what their motivation is, what's their attitude, what's their presence? Where can we lean on stuff to really express that character in new and interesting ways, and actually bring out their fighting style? Like, how would Bulletproof fight differently from Invincible, you know, how does Battle Beast fight?

We have different things to draw from, from media and [other] stuff. But translating that to gameplay is a lot of trial and error, a lot of experimentation. But all in all, it's really exciting, because we can push things as far as we need to just to get the kind of gameplay that we're looking for.

When you're actually deciding on what characters to add to the roster, are you kind of limited at the moment in terms of just focusing on the characters that have appeared in the TV show, or will we actually be able to see characters like Dinosaurus, Space Racer, [and] other characters. Is the team [bound] by just the show roster at the moment, or will we actually see some of those that haven't appeared in the Amazon Prime series in the future?

Bautista: I'm definitely limited in what I can answer. I will say that we are looking for inspiration wherever and whenever possible. When people saw Bulletproof, they were pretty surprised, you know, because they were like, "Wait, he's kind of a background character. Why would they bring him into the roster?" But we found different ways to, like you said, pull his personality in and mix it up, versus some of the other characters.

So we have opportunities and a very large potential roster to draw from with the IP, and there are going to be some restrictions based on where things are at. But we are actively working with the writers, with the animation team, and so on, to maximize the potential for the characters themselves. So, look forward to some interesting surprises and exciting events.

So, do you think it might be a case that, hopefully, if this game is still getting content years down the line, as characters are added to the show, could that be a potential future DLC situation?

Bautista: There is always a chance there, yeah. I will say, as we're developing characters, we're looking for holes in our roster, [and ask] who could fill that gap, who could actually fit [that] role, especially, versus the characters that we have. Who could really stand out in different ways? And, like I said, we have a lot of characters to draw from that we're already picking [and being like] this could make a lot of sense, [so] let's see where things can land.

Let's talk about the universe [the game] is based on. It's not mainline Invincible, as we've seen in the trailers, but more like an alternative universe. Obviously, Invincible is built on multiple versions of Angstrom Levy, etc., so I was wondering if Robert Kirkman or anyone on his team will have any say on the world you're building here, or if this is all in-house, with you building it from scratch and making your own [universe]?

Bautista: We work directly with the writers and Robert in general, across the board. They're the ones who are actually crafting the story that we're working with. So it gives us very interesting opportunities to push things in different directions. Robert Kirkman definitely has input across the board. He plays the game a lot and gives us feedback, and we actually have footage of him playing with Mike Willette, our executive producer. It's just him and Mike, going back and forth, talking s**t, having a lot of fun. It's just awesome to see.

How fun has it been to work on this project for you?

Bautista: I will say, as we've worked on Killer Instinct in the past were unable to actually finish the project because we were bought out by Amazon at the time, this feels almost like a redemption arc, like a chance to get back into it. There's a lot that we put into this, similar to our time with Killer Instinct. We love fighting games, we love the FGC, we're part of that community.

How important has it been that the community has shown you that much love back?

Bautista: It's everything. We [aren't making] this game for us, even though it's a part of us; we're making it for the FGC. So that's why we love working with them, every step of the way.

So, how important would it be for you if this were on the main stage one day?

Bautista: That would be amazing. Seeing people enjoy your game wholeheartedly, it just hits you. What I love, especially, is getting the game into people's hands, having them have fun, and seeing them go nuts with the game. I love the smiles, those intense stares, and the intense stare-downs that the FGC has. It's so good. And having the opportunity to see that again firsthand means the world to me.

Playing with your friends in Mage Arena

Mage Arena has quickly gained steam among PC players, which has left many console players wondering what lies ahead for them.

It's not uncommon that many video games are typically released on PC (and especially when they're out on early access). This is more common for indie games, and Mage Arena falls into that category. However, many games also get a console port later down the line.

Let's find out what information we have for this game's potential console launch in the future.

Is Mage Arena available on Xbox or PS5?

As of writing on Aug. 2, the popular indie title is exclusively available on PC. In simpler words, the game is neither present on Xbox nor on PlayStation. This includes both generations of consoles for the respective brands, and the only way to play Mage Arena is by buying and downloading it on Steam.

Incidentally, the game is also unavailable for the Nintendo Switch, and there are no plans for a Switch 2 port anytime soon. The same also applies to the game's current availability on mobile devices. If you find any mobile game with a similar/identical name, it's better to avoid them as they're fake.

Will Mage Arena release on consoles?

As of writing, there's no official statement about Mage Arena never coming to consoles. Hence, there's always a possibility for a console port later down the line, but the chances are low. 2025 has certainly been a year of indie hits. We got Schedule 1 in the spring, followed by PEAK in the summer.

Both these games have done remarkably well in terms of sales. They have been viral hits among the PC community and sold over a million copies each. However, developing a console port is an expensive affair, and more so if different platforms are the target. Mage Arena, like the two other games mentioned here, is priced low, and it's unlikely that there is a budget in place for their console release.

Additionally, the targeting system used in the game will be slightly difficult to adapt for consoles (but that's quite possible). Ultimately, it will be down to the financial numbers rather than the technical aspects if we are to get a console port for the game.

BitLife paint it black challenge

One of BitLife's most deceptively difficult challenges, Paint it Black, has officially begun. Although it seems simple at first, some of its objectives require some in-depth knowledge of the game's socialization mechanics and job options.

BitLife's Paint it Black challenge has five objectives to complete:

BitLife Paint it Black challenge guide

You won't need any special career packs or expansions for this challenge. However, your character will need a father who stays in your life long enough to engage in an argument, and either a younger or older brother who passes before you do. There are a few strategies you can employ here, which we'll dive into later.

Be born a female in France

The first task of this challenge is to be born a female in France. You'll do this by choosing female as your starting gender when creating a new character and France as your birth country. The exact city you're born in doesn't matter as long as you live somewhere in France.

What's more important for this challenge is your family. Since we have two family-related objectives, you'll ideally want to start with a father and an older brother. Your character needs to outlive her brother and father to finish two of the challenge's tasks, so watch for this through your Relationships tab, and don't be afraid to remake characters until this happens.

Become a painter

Your next task is to become a painter. Once your character turns 18, check the full-time job list and scroll through until you see a painter role. It'll appear with a paint palette emoji next to its name. If you don't see it right away, close and reopen BitLife or age up and recheck the list.

You won't need any post-secondary education or work experience to land this job. However, having an art degree can help you narrow down your choices. Otherwise, apply for the role once you find it and pass the interview to become a painter.

Have a pet turtle named Francois

We now need to adopt and take care of a pet turtle. You can do this by heading into Activities, Pets, and Pet Store, before scrolling through your options in search of a turtle. If you don't see one in the list, age up and recheck the list or restart BitLife to refresh your options.

BitLife adopting a turtle
Screenshot by Destructoid

Turtles are typically inexpensive, making this a simple task to complete if you've worked a year or two as a painter. Once you find a turtle in the pet store, adopt it and name it Francois to knock out this task.

Argue with your father

Arguing with your father in BitLife relies entirely on luck. You can argue with someone by engaging in conversations with them and having the agreement part go into the red. You'll need to talk to your character's father repeatedly until this happens.

BitLife agreement bar
The bar needs to be low and red to initiate an argument. Screenshot by Destructoid

Several factors can contribute to this. If you don't have a good relationship with your father, he'll refuse to speak to your character. Thankfully, you can give gifts to rectify this. Otherwise, if you both have a strong relationship, you can talk as usual by heading into Relationships, selecting your father, and picking Conversation until the bar is red. Once it is, choose to argue with him to complete the task.

Mourn the death of your brother

The last objective is to mourn the death of your character's brother. There are two ways to accomplish this: wait for him to pass naturally, or end things prematurely and quickly finish the task.

If you choose to wait, you can repeatedly age up until he passes away from old age, illness, or an accident. All of these can happen randomly, but the odds are higher if he's much older than you or developed a severe condition early in his life.

BitLife mourning brother
Screenshot by Destructoid

Alternatively, you can do the deed yourself to eliminate him, allowing you to mourn his death that same year. If you have the Assassin's Blade item, you'll do this without facing any repercussions. Otherwise, there's a chance the police will catch you, requiring you to mourn his death after dealing with them.

Once your character becomes a painter, argues with her father, and mourns the death of her brother, you'll complete the Paint it Black challenge, rewarding you with a mystery cosmetic prize box. If you're interested in diving into more content, check out how to become a plastic surgeon in BitLife.

Picking up the smiley face post-it off the broken mirror

A distorted narrator, a view plagued by cinematic bars tells a psychological tale of grief. Unable to leave your apartment, trapped exploring the darkest crevices of your mind, you wonder whether reaching the front door will ever show a means of escape. Uncover the past you buried yourself in and find solace in the memories of your loved ones.

Luto makes a drastic move away from its 2022 demo. What was previously a quiet walking sim with clear inspiration from P.T. and Layers of Fear now behaves like a more twisted and artistic The Stanley Parable. Featuring a narrator whose words blur between dream and reality, Luto moves into a more abstract realm, reminiscent of Alan Wake 2 and Death Stranding.

Luto: All chapters and puzzles walkthrough

Full of puzzles and endless walking, it's time to venture into the great unknown in the hopes that you'll come out the other side of this internal journey anew. Here is our full walkthrough of Luto.

Chapter 1: It's Happening Again

The desert in Luto
Screenshot by Destructoid

Monday

The easiest action you will ever do in Luto is try to exit through the front door after picking up the keys near the home phone. Visit the basement for important lore before you leave, learning about the recurring cinematic bars that haunt Samuel.

Tuesday

Pick up the keys again and exit through the front door.

Wednesday

Find Sam's sketchbook on the floor downstairs. Then return to the bathroom to pick up the home keys from the sink. Exit through the front door.

Thursday

Answer the house phone downstairs. Go into the basement, unlock and enter the secret hatch near the worktable.

Chapter 2: Beyond the Noise

Luto broken mirror with smiley post-it note at its center
Screenshot by Destructoid

Here is where the first puzzle appears. You need to figure out the numerical code for F A D B to input into the phone. All numbers start with 555. Get a sliver of lore by calling 555-1962, 555-3005, and 555-1990.

F A D B correlates to the sketchbook pages next to the phone. These panels correspond to a letter and a digit to the phone number you need. Click on the SOS button on the phone three times to call mom, which will cause the hammer hooked on the ceiling light (near the ladder and hole in the wall) to fall down, giving you a way to tear off the wooden planks across an open door. Be sure to pick up the Drawing of Monkey Bros off the floor in this room.

Find the distorted mirror in the hallway opposite the boarded-up open door and adjacent to the corridor made of sand and rock that you walked through to re-enter the house. The first digit of the code is inside the mirror.

Locate the door with drawings of clocks encompassing it. The number "1" appears through the peephole. You need to find and click on all seven clocks to mark them off the door and unlock it. Here are the clock locations:

  1. Behind a vase in the small blue-lit area reflected by the window opposite, to the right of the clock door.
  2. On a cardboard box above the stairs.
  3. In the bathtub: Note the number on the clock when it stops spinning, as the time corresponds to "B" for the phone number.
  4. Above the F A D B puzzle.
  5. Head downstairs, past the Sisyphus painting from the F A D B phone stand. Clock on the wooden chair.
  6. Behind the boarded-up door (needs the hammer to pull the planks off).
  7. Near the distorted window, opposite the boarded-up door, on the bottom shelf of the small table with a post-it note, sketchbook sheet, and lamp on it (next to the gray armchair).

Opening this door tells you to multiply the number through the peephole by seven. Be sure to grab Isaac's Monkey hanging from the ceiling in this room.

The third letter "D" corresponds to the missing ghost or mannequin in the well-lit room that was previously locked on the first floor (unlocks by picking up the F A D B sketchbook page). The third ghost is missing, which is numbered "2" in Sam's sketchbook.

So what have we figured out?

  • F: The mirror shows us "1."
  • A: By solving the clock puzzle, we only need to multiply 1 by 7 to get "7."
  • D: The missing ghost is "2."
  • B: The clock in the bathtub is set to "5" o'clock.

If you wish to skip all of this, simply input 555-1725 into the phone to solve this puzzle.

Chapter 3: One More Time

Monday - Thursday

Pick up the house keys by the front door and leave.

Friday

Enter Samuel's bedroom. Insert the drawing of the monkey bros on the storyboard. Then place Isaac's Monkey on the bed. Use right-click to zoom and locate the monkey bro plushies spawning around Samuel's bedroom. You need to look at them, then turn away from them to spawn elsewhere.

  1. Check above the books under FRANK poster.
  2. Hanging off the ceiling fan.
  3. In the trash can.
  4. On the Rubik's Cube and piggy bank.

Go downstairs, pick up the keys, and leave through the front door.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Pick up the flashlight downstairs and go back upstairs. Look at the four paintings in the corridors with imagery of fish. Click on the fourth image that has a moon in the background. You will get Grandpa's farewell letter here. There's a crack in the wall behind the painting you interacted with that has Dolores' chest key inside. Unlock the chest downstairs to get the Entrance Door (an item you won't need until much later on).

Follow the linear route back to the telephone and answer it, where the game will begin to fight back using the cinematic bars. Use spacebar to resist, backtrack through the house to the sandy corridor you passed through to reach the F A D B puzzle. Click on the ajar door to find the first light. Luto will break on purpose, forcing you out of the game, where you must click Continue to return to the desert.

Chapter 1: It's Happening Again

The stairs are very different this time. Keep heading down until a hole appears. Jump down it.

Chapter 4: Thanks For Pushing Me

Here is where the game truly begins, in the same area where Luto's demo took place. There's a new storyboard puzzle that's missing three panels.

Drawing of two monkeys picture near locked trunk
Screenshot by Destructoid

When the corridor splits off into two, take the right path to a large room with a closed trunk that has something inside it trying to get out, the Drawing of Two Monkeys on the floor, and large easels of Isaac and Samuel surrounding it. Take out the Golden Piece from the silver gate in this room.

Take theGolden Piece to the boarded-up door and walk down the right corridor, towards a ghost, and insert the piece into the basement gate. Take the Sun and Moon Knocker off the red door. Go all the way down to look at the three monitors for a code made up of symbols. You can't solve this yet, but remember its location.

Find the Drawing of Strange Symbols upstairs. Place the Knocker on the door with the phone ringing on the other side. Explore this apartment to find the Drawing of a Canarian House storyboard piece in the hallway near the neon blue exit sign on the floor. It is directly opposite the locked room with a rocking chair.

Find the Silver Piece inside the House of Lost Dreams. Silver plates with cherub paintings for the time of day, related to the family members on the picture frames. A ghost will attack you in the hallway, bringing you back to the broken bathroom mirror.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Return to the large room with the giant easels and insert the Silver Piece in the gate at the back (where you originally got the Golden Piece). Remember that you can find this room by taking the right path when the corridor splits off into two. The taped chest is now open in this loop, holding new sketchbook pages inside. Find the monkeys four times in this room to get Isaac's Deflated Ball. Travel to the dead end of the area beyond the Silver Piece gate to find a Valve. You can also find one of those strange coins as you return to the main area.

Return to the House of the Lost Dreams and go in the opposite direction from it, past a caution wet floor sign, leading downstairs. Insert the Valve to stop the leak. Take the ladder down to collect Joel's Dull Heart.

Return to the storyboard puzzle and place the Drawing of Two Monkeys on "Find the childhood that hides from pain", the Drawing of Strange Symbols panel on the "Look for the signs amidst all the noise" slot, and the Canarian House on "Escape for the false prison of memories" to complete this puzzle.

You can now use the television room with a glowing red light emanating from it, now that the storyboard is complete. There's a room upstairs that's open too, including another monitor and a tape that'll drop from the window when you interact with it. Find and insert the tape in the television room. Play through the "Why Didn't I Scream?" tape to get the code of three symbols: spiral, fork, and triangles. You need this to unlock the door with three monitors on it (where you picked up the door knocker).

Ghost wearing Sam's broken glasses
Screenshot by Destructoid

Click on each monitor until it displays the code you found in the television room. Enter the area that was in the tape where monitors play static and pick up Sam's Broken Glasses off the ghost. Backtrack to the apartment with the rocking chair in the previously locked room, as it's now open.

Unlocking Eva's chest with 3715

Place the entrance door on the painting in this now-locked room for mom's chest puzzle. Count the painted roof tiles (3), clay pieces (7), wooden crosses (1), and lizards (5) in this tiny room to get the code 3715 for the chest. Open the Entrance Door and collect Eva's Shattered Photograph.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Return to the House of Lost Dreams and place items on the silver plates from left to right: Eva, Isaac, Samuel, and Joel. This releases the second light.

Head back towards the bathroom when you see the ghost fall into the painting below it. Go left and through every exit door marked by the house for sale sign outside of it.

Chapter 5: Playing With The Truth

Drawing of Sam's parents on the wall
Screenshot by Destructoid

Keep moving forward, exploring the strange house interior where more and more ghosts are present this time around. There's the Staff Key on stacked cardboard boxes, but it's on the other side of a gate you can't open. Head upstairs to where there's a giant drawing of Sam's parents on the wall with a Staff Only door on the right. Go down another staircase to find a sketchbook sheet with a game of hangman on the back and the Staff Key. Open the Staff Only door and pick up the "Why Didn't I Scream?" tape. Walk through the trigger warning and find the white door, clicking on the handle repeatedly to force it open.

Playing hangman on the cursed tape
Screenshot by Destructoid

Insert the tape on the television on the floor and play Hangman by interacting with ghosts on the recording. The letters you select update your game in real time. The letter "O" is always given to you, but you have to correctly figure out the remaining five letters. Locate the letters "R," "M," "P," and "E." Meaning "to break," the word you need to spell is "romper." You need to find the ghost in the hallway with "X" above it to open the passage so you can travel down it, unlocking the path outside of the videotape.

Because you unblocked the path, you can head all the way down after completing the tape for the second time, returning to the hallway where you used the door knocker a few chapters back. The ghost in this hallway won't move if you're looking at it. It wouldn't be an indie horror without a chase scene, and Luto knows this, but at least it's kind enough to warn you with the "Start Chase" title.

Chapter 22: A Mouth Full of Sand Can't Scream

Searching the void for the radio
Screenshot by Destructoid

Search for the gold coin in the darkness. Listen out for the static screams coming from the radio and click on it, moving the radio to another part of the sandy abyss. Find the sketchbook sheet of Mr. Button. Juggle navigating around this giant room for the screaming radio locations and spamming spacebar to keep Samuel's eyes open. Search for the third light, using the spacebar to keep yourself awake. Follow the sound of the radio again, this time adjusting the frequency as the ghost approaches.

02_Beyond_The_Noise

Following the ambulance reverse through a Forwards title
Screenshot by Destructoid

In the room where it says "Forwards" and "Backwards," you need to go through the backwards message and then through the forwards message and wait for the tiny ambulance toy to reach the room with you. When the ambulance that went across the "Out of Bounds" pit reaches the door you walked through, go through the backwards text and then avoid the forwards text, waiting at the end of the out of bounds pit for the ambulance to reverse. Then hop on the ambulance for it to carry you over the gap.

Backtracking through your original house causes many glitches and errors, showing your psyche and memories falling apart at the seams. Find the corridor that says "Play Music" and walk through the message to get to a ladder, taking you to the other side of the hatch at the start of the game.

00_Prologue

Kicked out back to the main menu, the narrator follows you here. Keep clicking Continue, regardless of the glitches, lag, and narrator's dialogue.

30/03

30/3 mode in Luto
Screenshot by Destructoid

You can skip this section altogether by exiting to the main menu, which will force Samuel to wake up in the bathroom where everything is seemingly "back to normal." 30/3 can be played at any point upon completing the game by selecting this mode above New Game in the main menu.

30/3 is a mini-game that uses the same rules as Pac-Man: Run from the red spiders, pick up orbs, and collect hearts to unload at the front desk. Fill the five empty hearts for an achievement. Beating 30/3 isn't necessary for the story.

Chapter 3: One More Time

Enter the room opposite where the bathroom normally spawns in and pick up the house keys. Leave the house.

Monday

Go through the "Change Day" title and find the inactive "Trigger Death" title to drop down onto. Phase through the staircase leading to the exit to see the Animation Tests area. Enter the narrow corridor to the right of Animation Tests. Push the small moon into the "Out of Bounds" pit and follow it down, locating the fourth and final light.

Sandy beach and ocean in background with ghost in center
Screenshot by Destructoid

Exit to the main menu and click Continue for the final time, returning to the sandstorm. Reach the fourth light where the storm will seize. Enter the box. There is no right answer to what you say to the narrator.

Free from restraints, now able to open his eyes to a calmness that he hadn't seen for a long time, the cinematic bars to Samuel's life have finally lifted for your time in Luto has come to an end.

GOG.com logo on a space-inspired, purple background.

Good Old Games, aka GOG, CD Projekt's DRM-free storefront, is giving away censored games for free in an attempt to combat censorship recently instigated by a very angry organization and payment processors. As the rest of the industry caves under pressure, GOG is stepping up and fighting alongside us.

"GOG and game publishers launch FreedomToBuy.games to raise awareness on censorship in gaming," reads a GOG statement inaugurating an initiative that is giving away 13 free games, which were previously deplatformed and censored on Steam and itch.io.

"Some games vanish. Not because they broke the law, but because someone decided they shouldn't exist," the statement goes further, with GOG clearly illustrating the unfairness of these recent sweeping deplatformings of various "unethical" and "immoral" games, all done at the request of the likes of Visa, Mastercard, and anti-pornography zealots.

You can claim the games in question at the following link, including Postal 2 and Agony, two otherwise good games that, though they contain various dark themes, are by no means either illegal or "unethical." Make sure to do so within the next 30 hours or so, as the offer is time-limited.

GOG's website giving away free games.
GOG understood the assignment. Screenshot by Destructoid

This will net you GOG copies of these games, which, in line with the store's policy, means you get to keep them as your own for life, without ever having to worry about any corporate rug pull rendering your product obsolete or unusable. GOG operates on a DRM-free basis, meaning there is simply no mechanism to disable your copy of the game or terminate your "license," so your game is yours, and it cannot be taken away from you.

GOG is, quite honestly, doing God's work trying to combat censorship that's been taking over gaming ever since payment processors allegedly pressured Steam and itch.io into removing thousands of titles with NSFW content. This was supposedly the result of a years-long campaign by an Australian anti-pornography organization, Collective Shout, with payment processors acquiescing to its requests.

Mastercard and Visa have denied pressuring stores into doing any censorship or product removals, though they seemingly imply the games removed contained illegal content, which is why the networks did not want to associate with them.

What the truth is remains unknown, but it's worrying enough that any entity, especially payment processors, can leverage their position and use it to censor, remove, or police content on moral, ethical, or other grounds.

The Find a Party channel is the best place to get new teammates. Mage Arena's primary game mode is Capture the Flag, where two teams of four players battle against each other. You can join random lobbies, but communication is key. You can use Discord to find new allies if you don't have three other friends to team up with. You can also find a sparring partner to contest against in the Colosseum mode.

The channels under the Support section are also helpful, as Mage Arena is in early access. You can report a bug or leave a suggestion for the developers. You'll also find the patch notes for all updates under this section.

Multiple voice channels are also available. If you have teamed up with other players on Discord, you can use these channels to communicate with your allies. Communication is key to winning games in Mage Arena, as is learning the basics.

Always check out the FAQ section to learn more about concepts like spells, game modes, and more.

Battlefield 6 vehicles combat

Battlefield 6 is topping Steam's top-seller chart, surpassing even free-to-play titles such as Valve's own Counter-Strike 2. It's undeniable that DICE's shooter looks promising, especially compared to previous games in the series, but let's not pretend like BF2042 never happened.

As EA slowly but surely wraps up development on Battlefield 6, which is slated to release on Oct. 10 this year, players have been going hand over fist to pre-order it. It thus earned the title a top spot on Steam's top-sellers list, above free-to-play titles, even, which you'd expect are getting the most players to click on and download them. It's unsurprising, honestly, given how promising BF6 looks, what with all the awesome Michael Bay-style trailers and chaotic multiplayer.

But it also shows us that players seem to have forgotten about 2042. It also had a pretty successful beta, with a lot of marketing and drive behind it. It was going to be the next best thing in the franchise, stepping everything up a notch. Hundred-player lobbies, natural disasters, epic scale, etc. All of which are things being promised to us now, save for minor retractions like the removal of heroes and return of classes.

Battlefield 6 trailer art
Image via EA

Now, I'm not saying BF6 looks even remotely as bad as 2042, but I would advise caution. We've been burned not once, not twice, but countless times by the AAA industry giving us flashy eye candy to swallow up and be bewildered by, leading us into pre-order temptation. I have personally fallen for the bait, and don't plan to do it again.

Pre-ordering a game in a franchise that hasn't had a stellar release in an entire decade is bad enough; doing it en masse enables EA to continue providing us with half-baked, haphazard, semifinished content, no matter how flashy and "polished" it might look.

For what it's worth, BF6 could end up being the best game of all time, but it's EA that has long ago lost its status as a top-level, trustworthy studio, especially when it comes to its handling of the Battlefield series.

A cowboy pointing a gun to the side of the camera in Hunt: Showdown.

Hunt: Showdown is the one game I keep returning to, whether a major update has happened or not. It possesses something so magnetic and magical that it continuously brings me back. And, while I cannot pinpoint what it is, I know that I will never get tired of it.

The ultimate extraction experience

Hunters in a swamp in Hunt: Showdown.
Hunt is intense, slow, methodical, and atmospheric. Image via Crytek

Many PVPVE games have come out over the industry's long history. It's a great formula. Chaotic, intense. It requires players to always be on edge and watch out not just for each other, but also for what the game itself throws at them. Hunt: Showdown is no different, as the PVE side of things sits at the very middle of its gameplay loop, with the PVP aspect added on top.

You're put in the position of a hunter, a mercenary paid by shady organizations to go into accursed lands and slay the beasts within. Each run consists of looking for boss clues, locating the boss, slaying it, and extracting safely with the bounty. You can, at any time, be prevented from doing so by AI enemies dotted throughout its maps or, more commonly, other players.

It's a PVP rush to complete PVE objectives, a functional formula allowing for two very different styles of gameplay to be combined.

What's more, it removes that post-boss moment of respite players are used to. Take, for example, the Souls games or any similar title out there. Each boss defeat results in a cool new cutscene, a bonfire to rest at and take a breather, and a unique reward for your hard-fought battle.

But in Hunt: Showdown, no such thing exists. Beating a boss brings upon its arena an unbearable silence, one broken merely by the sound of the Banishing, with thunder lowly clapping and echoing throughout. It's heavy, it's atmospheric. You've completed a difficult challenge, fought the boss and won, but you remain in the thick of it, anticipating other players who all at once now know your position and are slowly but surely moving toward you.

Picking up the reward, the Bounty, additionally reveals your location every few seconds on the map, opening you up completely to the rest of the server. What's more, each death of your hunter is permanent, meaning all their equipment and guns are lost on death, as well as their perks and progression, while you are forced to recruit a new one.

This level of looming danger is present constantly and gives the game an incredible vibe. One that, combined with its beautiful and haunting environments, simply cannot be found in other titles.

One-of-a-kind gunplay

Just when you think you've won, Hunt knocks you back down. Literally. Video by Destructoid

Shooting a gun in Hunt: Showdown is not something to be taken lightly. Whenever you let one off, you're giving a free signal to anyone in your vicinity that you're just around the corner, either fighting others, the boss, or merely messing about. Any of these activities leaves you vulnerable, the gunshots attracting fight-savvy players to come and see if they could exploit your weakness.

And when the players do come or are encountered, you make use of some of the best gunplay ever conceived of in gaming. The guns are 19th-century-style, but modified with more advanced in-universe technologies that put them on a level just higher than their real-life counterparts.

Multiple ammo types and variations all play a significant role in how each particular gun functions, as do various melee weapons when things start to get dicey and personal.

Guns have weight, kickback, aren't lasers and machine guns that can be pointed in a direction and shot with perfect precision. You have to be meticulous, conserve relatively scarce ammunition, properly aim and fire and never miscalculate. Everything depends on skillfully using any given weapon in the game, each of which opens up a world of possibilities and playstyles, from sneaky snipers to blazing shotgunners to battle-crazed swordsmen.

It's almost the perfect game, built and refined over many years by the creative minds at Crytek who, with their fantastic Cryengine, have crafted a timeless experience which I will never have enough of.

What's your take on Hunt: Showdown, Destructoid? Have you ever played it or plan to try it out? Do let me know below.

War, as seen in Darksiders 4.

In a move that caught the whole gaming community by surprise, THQ Nordic just announced Darksiders 4, the first new instalment in the franchise since 2019's Darksiders Genesis and its first mainline one since Darksiders 3.

The announcement was made via the cinematic trailer below, which makes a direct callback to the final moments of Darksiders and confirms the game to be a direct sequel to the first's unholy cliffhanger. According to THQ, the game is also set to be a third-person action-adventure, akin to all of the franchise's numbered titles.

The title's official description has also confirmed that players will be able to play as all four horsemen—War, Death, Fury, and Strife—in Darksiders 4, with each featuring exclusive weapons and styles.

It remains unknown whether this will be possible through separate campaigns or character switching. I, however, would not be surprised by the latter, as, according to its Steam page, the game is set to support online co-op.

When will Darksiders 4 be released?

Although a release date for the title has not been given, it would not be a stretch to expect Darksiders 4 to be released either in the second half of 2026 or in early 2027. Apart from the PC version, the game will also be available on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. You can check out more about Darksiders 4 by heading to the game's official site, as well as wishlist it right now on Steam.

If you want to start getting ready or, like me, are currently fighting an urge to replay the franchise from the start, you can currently play all of the Darksiders games on both consoles (Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series) and PC. For those looking for a wave of nostalgia, though, why not take a look at our 2016 Darksiders Warmastered review?
