In a few months time we'll be approaching the anniversary of Square Enix realising that actually, their commitment to releasing certain games only on particular platforms isn't that good for them after all. These following two years will supposedly have been a time of internal change for the studio, with that translated externally via the Final Fantasy 7 Remake games releasing on more than just PlayStation. Perhaps they're finally making smart choices! And then last year, instead of finally showing off something like, I don't know, Kingdom Hearts 4, which was first revealed four years ago now, they announced Killer Inn. Okay! And now, you can try it out for yourself.

I'll be truthful with you for a moment: I do, from time to time, enjoy a game where I do not have to be supremely strategic, and get to watch different lights and colours light up on my screen. Something that's got the juice, but doesn't ask too much of me. Everyone needs to turn their brain half off once in a while! And I believe I could quite easily find myself switching off that half to STICKER/BALL once in a while, a "pool game roguelike from the future."

You know, you'd think that with decades worth of RPGs in existence, side quests would have been more or less figured out by now. And yet, there are still enough games releasing that seem more interested in going for quantity over quality. But for the devs over at Archetype Entertainment, the goal is to make the side quests in their upcoming sci-fi jaunt Exodus not feel just "tacked on."

My Menace campaign hasn't been a rousing success. In my first mission, I failed a string of optional objectives and saw one of my squads gunned down by a group of heavily-armed, jetpack-wearing space pirates. Cold Snap map condition

The winter might be over in ARC Raiders, but the Cold Snap modifier will be back as a permanent addition to the Topside very soon.

Cold Snap was removed after completion of the Flickering Flames project earlier in January. However, Embark has announced that the map event will be back in the rotation pool. If you're interested in diving into the frozen lands and finding Candleberries, this guide will help you out with all the available information.

ARC Raiders Cold Snap release date and time

The Cold Snap map modifier will be available in ARC Raiders on Feb. 10. This is a permanent addition that will be present until Embark removes it once again. The rotation should be available at 12am PT/2am CT/3am ET/8am UTC/9am CET, which is the usual reset time.

However, the Cold Snap update might not be available immediately, since Embark will add it to the pool of map modifier rotations. Everything depends on how frequent Cold Snap will be as per the schedule. Some modifiers, like Bird City is only available on the Buried City map.

https://twitter.com/ARCRaidersGame/status/2020180761849331776

That said, I expect Cold Snap to be available on all maps barring Stella Montis.

What can we expect from Cold Snap in ARC Raiders

Since we have already had Cold Snap in the past, we have a fair idea about the challenges we will face. For starters, the parts of the map in Cold Snap will be completely frozen, and we will take damage by being exposed to the cold.

There should be exclusive resources like Candleberries that can only be found on the frozen lands. Last time, we had to collect them to complete the Flickering Flames project. It's different this time around, but there could be more use for Candleberries.

If you're interested in trying out Cold Snap when it arrives, you should start managing your inventories well. You're going to need certain items that will be necessary to survive in the cold.

Armored soldier in MENACE

Weapons in MENACE appear in different shapes and sizes, with each having unique skills that you'll need to understand.

Weapon skills refer to different stats that are associated with every gun in MENACE. If you've been confused about what the terms mean, this guide will help you out.

All MENACE weapon skills

The table below provides brief descriptions of all weapon skills in the game.

Skill Name How it Works
Accuracy Modifier A modifier that determines how accurate a weapon is on top of all its base stats. This modifier can be positive or negative based on the values.
Ammunition Count Determines how much ammo is available for a specific weapon.
Armor Penetration Determines the chance to penetrate for a specific type of ammunition. When the penetration value is equal to or higher than the armor value, your shot will always penetrate.
Armor Damage The amount of damage taken by the armor trying to stop one shot from a specific weapon.
Elements Hit Determines how many elements at most can be killed with a single shot of a weapon.
Hit Point Damage The amount of damage that a single shot from the weapon does if it's not blocked by armor.
Range The maximum range of a weapon when it can fire its ammunition. This doesn't consider the chances of the hit landing on adjacent tiles while bypassing the range.
Suppression The amount of suppression that's applied to enemies per shot. If a shot misses the unit and hits its tile, a reduced amount of Suppression is applied.
Rate of Fire The number of shots a weapon fires in a single attack. If an entire squad is equipped with the same weapon, the value will be applicable for all units.
Trade Value The rarity of a weapon, which determines the potential value of a gun on the black market.
Logistics The cost of resupplying the weapon. This is the base cost that doesn't take perks of a squad leader (some of them have perks that reduce the supply cost of acquiring additional supplies).

Jakotsu-Baba charging up into battle in Nioh 3.

Nioh 3, being a Soulslike at heart, throws players into all sorts of encounters against powerful, near-unstoppable enemies. These boss fights are often major turning points in the plot, and beating them is mandatory to drive the story forward.

One of the earliest major challengers players will fight is Jakotsu-Baba, the final boss of the first Crucible and the last great fight in the game's demo. She is a tough one and very unpredictable, but not impossible to beat.

So, here's how you should go about it.

Defeating Jakotsu-Baba in Nioh 3

Jakotsu-Baba in Nioh 3.
The red snake hits hard but slower, while the frost one is quick but much more manageable. Screenshot by Destructoid

Jakotsu-Baba is a formidable demonic boss that sports several weapons, two of which are the snakes on her back, alongside her massive stick.

Her attacks alternate between using the big red snake and the white frosted one, with the boss performing a special move to "activate" the frost snake, as the red is her default one.

The red snake does a lot more damage and hits much harder, but is generally a lot slower, whereas the frost one has quick and sweeping attacks that do less damage per hit but can still hurt you. The stick is slow and normal, and even if she does delay it a bit, quite easy to defend against.

With this in mind, your best bet would be to utilize the Samurai form at a Low Stance, prioritizing counterattacks and deflection over dodging and the relentless onslaught that the Ninja would be better fit for.

This is because every single thing Jakotsu-Baba throws at you can easily be deflected, and even if it isn't, it doesn't do that much Ki damage (which you can still make up for with Ki pulses once you do start attacking).

Jakotsu-Baba entering the arena in Nioh 3.
Jakotsu-Baba is a formidable opponent through and through. Screenshot by Destructoid

For example, she often throws the red snake straight at you in a thrusting sort of way, which you can block and not try to deflect (the red snake is fairly easy to just block and ignore). With the frost snake, Jakotsu-Baba goes 1-2 slowly in two sweeping attacks and then 1-2 quickly in shorter-ranged strikes. These four attacks follow a patterned rhythm, which you can easily memorize and deflect, charging up your arts gauge and using it to land counterattacks.

She also has a Burst Attack (when she lights up red, cannot be deflected) that is easily countered by a stance shift. She lifts up her stick, strikes once, then again, and then charges up with a Burst Attack. Simply shift stance as soon as the stick starts going down, and you'll have landed a great counter and opened her up for a lot of damage.

By aiming to block the red snake, deflect the frost one, and break every Burst Attack she does, you'll frequently leave Jakotsu-Baba staggered or winded, allowing you to land a few hits every now and again.

This is a slow, methodical approach to beating the boss, and since you'll have to rely on your Samurai stance, then respecig at the shrine just before her arena is a solid strategy. Pour everything into Strength, Heart, and Constitution, and watch Jakotsu-Baba suffer tremendous damage from any weapon you use.

I opted for the Crimson General Set, Odachi, Bow, and all, which offered me lots of poise and defense while simultaneously providing tremendous damage on my melee attacks. Speaking of which, you should also totally cover yourself in the most potent, high-defense equipment you have to ensure she does not do damage, even if her attacks somehow connect.

You'll have to dance with her, essentially, deflecting and getting a hit or two in before going back on the defense.

Rinse and repeat many times (and it did take me many times), and you'll eventually get her.

Oh, and in her Yokai form, don't fret. She doesn't do many things differently, and the strategy above applies to the entire fight.

Samurai in Nioh 3.

Nioh 3 is finally here. Much like its predecessors, its core gameplay heavily relies on proper builds and equipment, with players able to find literally thousands of items around the world, each of which could be a crucial component to any given build.

But once you've found all that you want, you may want to upgrade it yourself or perhaps even craft an entire build from scratch. One of the strongest and most potent upgrades is Soul Matching, by which you'll be able to use Azure Soul Ores to add +value to your equipment, boosting its stats tremendously.

This Ore is very difficult to come by, so here's everything you need to know.

Where to find Azure Soul Ores in Nioh 3

Shrine Maiden's Hakama being dismantled at a blacksmith in Nioh 3.
This Shrine Maiden's Hakama is a +1 item that I found near the end of the Warring States storyline. Screenshot by Destructoid

Azure Soul Ores are solely obtainable by performing Soul Extraction at the Blacksmith on items with +value upgrades already on them. This means that you'll need a weapon or armor with +1 or +2 or more on it already and then perform Soul Extraction (the same way you would if you're looking for Yellow Soul Ores).

These items are exceptionally rare, and I've only been able to find six of them in over 30 hours of gameplay. Most of what I did find was in the Warring States map, both as quest rewards during those initial couple dozen levels and as rare drops from powerful enemies.

My advice would be to seek out any and all challenges the game has to offer, as fighting strong bosses is just about the best way to obtain Azure Soul Ores. Closing Crucibles around the maps could put you up against waves of strong opponents, further increasing the odds of +value weapons dropping.
