Dungeons That Surely Slaughter Adventurers Is a Silly Take on Isekai Series

You know how Handyman Saitou in Another World is a slice-of-life series about an ordinary person using their practical skills in a fantasy world and being a huge help as a result? The isekai manga Dungeons That Surely Slaughter Adventurers is a similar sort of series, only with a more darkly comedic approach. The heroines Aine and Nacht are also using more typical skills in another land, but unwillingly and in a situation that's leaving them despondent about what feels like a different sort of 9-to-5 gig.

First, the structure of Dungeons That Surely Slaughter Adventurers feels similar to Handyman Saitou, as each one features chapters that are self-contained stories about specific moments involving the leads, with things tying together overall in ways that set up a background for them and a story of sorts. Aine and Nacht started lives as ordinary folks in the real world. After remarking about how often folks are being run down by trucks, they bring up how their defenses are impenetrable. That's when a jet engine falls off of a plane and lands on the duo, killing them instantly. Because they died this way, they're now dungeon staff working to clean up as custodians, while folks who got hit be trucks are the adventurer heroes coming in all the time to kill their coworkers and mess things up.

So to get revenge, Aine and Nacht decide they're going to do their best to make adventurers' lives rougher. Especially since it seems like they're stuck as janitors until other people die due to a falling plane engine.

Dungeons That Surely Slaughter Adventurers Is a Silly Take on Isekai Series
Image via Yen Press

There are many reasons why this succeeds. One is that Aine and Nacht are so deadpan about things and genuinely treat it as something like a normal custodian job. We're not seeing them freak out about blood and violence too often, though there are some exceptions. (In particular, when a demon boss Aine got close to ended up wiped out by adventurers.) It really comes down to another day's work, and that reaction makes it even more humorous.

Another is the fact that this is dark and mature humor. Which you expect considering they're dealing with blood, guts, and death all day. Finding out another use of mandrakes and discussing things learned from a succubus end up being really funny in-context, and the fact that they respawn after their own deaths means there can be some great gags in the one-shots regarding older Looney Tunes style slapstick and violence. Keep in mind though that it can get dirty, literally, and makes light of some adult subject matter. Tactfully and in ways that are genuinely funny! But it's definitely for an older audience.

Which makes it even more shocking when Dungeons That Surely Slaughter Adventurers ends up being incredibly cute too. A great early example involves kobolds. Once Aine and Nacht decide they're going to make adventurers miserable, they decide to train these normally week enemies that are used to fill dungeons due to being weak and breeding quickly into actually formidable foes. They look like pugs. The training process is goofy. The results made me smile. It's fun!

Dungeons That Surely Slaughter Adventurers is an unusual take on the slice-of-life style isekai story, but it's quite successful. It's absolutely silly and goofy, and it isn't afraid to go dark or dirty for a laugh. Which also means it can be just as shockingly fun when it occasionally ends up a little wholesome (in a warped humor sort of way) too.

Volume 1 of Dungeons That Surely Slaughter Adventurers is available now, and Yen Press will release the second volume of the isekai manga on August 25, 2026.

Silverwind Nargacuga in Monster Hunter Stories 3

The Silverwind Nargacuga is a mutation in Monster Hunter Stories 3, and you can unlock it pretty early in the game.

The Silverwind Nargacuga isn't an ordinary monstie, as you'll first need to get the base variant. Obtaining the base variant (the egg) itself is a difficulty task as you'll be going up against the Invasive Nerscylla. This guide will provide you with all the necessary information required for you to get your own Silverwind Nargacuga.

How to repel the Invasive Nerscylla in Monster Hunter Stories 3

The secret to unlocking the Silverwind Nargacuga is locked behind repelling the Invasive Nerscylla. To find it, glide east from Camp: Blessing Hill in the Canalta Timberland region. From there, head straight to reach the marked location (marked as "6").

You'll find the Invasive Nerscylla that has terrorised the endangered Nargacuga habitat. To repel it, you'll want to bring a Gunlance with the Wyvern's Fire skill. Save your energy and wait for the Nerscylla to become invisible. Perform the Wyvern's Fire skill, and it will interrupt the Nerscylla's incoming attack.

Nerscylla

Once you repel the Nerscylla, go to the endangered den and get your Nargacuga egg.

How to get the Silverwind Nargacuga in Monster Hunter Stories 3

Once you obtain the egg, wait for it to hatch, and you'll get your Nargacuga. The Nargacuga is a pretty strong monster in the second chapter, but the Silverwind Nargacuga is even better. It's one of the two mutations available, with the other being the Green Nargacuga.

To get the Silverwind Nargacuga, you have to meet two requirements.

  • You need to get the Nargacuga/Green Nargacuga's Ecosystem Rank to S.
  • The monstie must reside in habitats that have two or more monsters that control the winds, like the Great Izuchi, the Paolumi, and the Legiana.

The Blessing Hill area in the Canalta Timbaland is the best spot to meet both requirements. This area already has the Great Izuchi in it, and you can release the Nargacuga to the zone.

Silverwind Nargacuga requirements
Image via Capcom

All you now need is to find four Nargacuga eggs to hatch. The easiest way to do so is to track a Nargacuga that should now show up in the wild (since you've populated a region with it). You can reduce its health and Paintball it, which will allow you to track it back to its den (and get the egg).

Once you find the four eggs, wait for them to hatch. Then, release them in the same region, and this should take the Nargacuga's Ecosystem rank in the area to S. You'll unlock the Silverwind mutation once the rank reaches S. You'll also unlock the Green mutation if you hadn't done that.

When you find Nargacuga eggs the next time, some of them will belong to the Silverwind mutation. If you're looking to unlock more mutations, check out this complete list of every monstie variant.

Players shooting at zombies in Toxic Commando

John Carpenter's Toxic Commando offers four unique classes from the get-go, once the tutorial has been finished, and you can build them differently based on your needs.

All four classes are unique in terms of their loadouts, abilities, and more. That said, all of them have a skill tree, and you can't select them all. The skills you choose will determine how the classes will work.

Let's look at the best skills you can unlock and upgrade for each class to make them perform better.

Best skills to unlock in John Carpenter's Toxic Commando

The tables below have a list of the best skills that you can unlock for each class.

Best skills for The Strike

The Strike class in Toxic Commando
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Strike uses explosives to control the crowd and helps to clear huge swarms of enemies. The main focus is to improve how your explosives work so they can do more damage.

Skill Reason
Combatant This skill allows you to carry one additional explosive. An additional explosive means more damage and provides you with an extra chance to clear the enemies.
Blast Radius All upgrade nodes on this sequence improve the blast radius of every explosive you trigger. This enables you to improve the AoE potential of the explosives.
Supernova While this upgrade takes a lot of time to unlock, it causes your fireballs to explode and spread fire within their radius. The ignited fire does damage over time to the undead caught in the blast.

Best skills for The Medic

The Medic class in Toxic Commando
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Medic's primary job is to help heal yourself and your team. The upgrades should be focused entirely on improving your healing potential so that your team can survive for a long time.

Skill Reason
Wizardry This skill allows The Medic's ability to recharge 100% faster when fully upgraded. The faster recover will help you to provide more heals over time, and help your team to survive for longer.
Medkit Efficiency Once fully upgraded, the Medkit Efficiency allows your Medkits to heal 50% more health. These additional heals will be necessary against harder enemies and bigger waves.
Self Medicate Things can go wrong at any time, and this skill allows your Healing Aura to revive you when you're incapacitated. Having such a privilege allows you to survive longer and save your teammates when required.

Best skills for The Operator

The Operator class in Toxic Commando
Screenshot by Destructoid

As The Operator, you'll be relying heavily on your drone. The stronger your drone, the better your chances of survival.

Skill Reason
Sustained Support This upgrade allows The Operator's drone to stay in the Battle Mode for 50% longer. This allows the drone to do more damage and kill more enemies. The 50% hike is massive for the latter waves.
Loyal Friend If you're playing solo, this skill will work especially well with Sustained Support. It will activate the Drone immediately if a zombie grabs The Operator. This allows you to escape tight situations when you don't have a possible way to save yourself.
Drone Lethality This skill significantly improves the drone's damage output by 10%, which helps it to provide support fire when things get tough. Moreover, this skill upgrade works pretty well with both Loyal Friend and Sustained Support.

Best skills for The Defender

The Defender class in Toxic Commando
Screenshot by Destructoid

As a tank, your objective is to absorb as much health as possible. Your priority should be to unlock skills that increase your base health and reduce the incoming damage.

Skill Reason
Repulsor The Repulsor converts The Defender's barrier into a death dome. With this upgrade, all enemies will take significant damage when they try to cross the barrier. Roamers will die immediately, and this skill massively improves the damage potential of The Defender.
Energy Armor Once you get all upgrades on this line, your barrier will provide 25 Temporary Armor when your allies are inside the barrier. This Temporary Armor, when full upgraded, will stack to 100. The additional
Expansion The Expansion skill increases the barrier's protective radius by 20%. Both the Repulsor and Energy Armor skills rely on how effective the barrier is. Increasing its radius allows the barrier to target more enemies and provide more barrier to your teammates.

While all classes have their own use-case scenario, this tier list will help you figure out your favorite one.

Infinite from Sonic Forces

Sonic the Hedgehog is a weird series. The franchise was off the hook from the start, and has veered in psychotic directions since then, driving some fans to quit SEGA's mascot cold turkey. But recently, things have changed, and it's all thanks to Ian Flynn.

A Sonic fan since the early 1990s, Flynn started out as a writer for Archie Comics' iconic Sonic the Hedgehog series. Since then, he's risen through the ranks to become the chief writer for the entire Sonic franchise. The man loves the wild world of Sonic, and the recent return of the blue Blur's edgiest villain proves why he's the best thing to happen to the series.

The Chaotix Files brings back a beloved Sonic villain from one of the series' worst games

Released to celebrate Sonic's 35th anniversary, The Chaotix Files casts the titular team (Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, and Charmy the Bee) in a send-up to radio film noir. Someone's swiping power-amplifying artifacts, and the Chaotix are on the hunt to bag the culprit. They uncover clues and chase leads. As of the most recent episode, Infinite the Jackal revealed himself as the thief.

If you're a Sonic fan, you're giggling already. Introduced in Sonic Forces, Infinite is what you get when Sonic Team dares to create a character even edgier than Shadow the Hedgehog. A nihilistic mercenary imbued with reality-warping power by Dr. Eggman, everything about him—from the billowing masked profile to his tendency to monologue about how unstoppable he is, screams—JRPG villain." And for his fans, that's where the charm is.

Unfortunately, like just about everything else that came out of Forces, Infinite's debut didn't quite stick the landing. The game's story doesn't let him do anything interesting with his power set, and he's unceremoniously sidelined by Eggman right before the game ends. Even Infinite's most devout loyalists felt pretty underwhelmed.

Infinite's return proves Ian Flynn is the master of fixing other Sonic writers' mess

Infinite on a roof in Sonic Forces
Image via SEGA

Luckily for Infinite, Ian Flynn has practically built his career around picking up other Sonic writers' slack. During his tenure as the head writer for Archie's Sonic, Flynn gathered the ashes his predecessor, Ken Penders, had left after burning the comic to the ground and breathed new life into them. The man has an almost encyclopedic understanding of Sonic's lore and cast, and he uses it to create stories that play into Sonic's friends' and foes' strengths.

Flynn's knack for reinvention is on full display during Infinite's reintroduction in The Chaotix Casefiles. Everything fans loved about Infinite is back: the iconic thrum of his powers, his low, crisp voice, and his love of monologuing. However, Flynn also plays up the element of Infinite's character that got shortchanged in Forces: he uses his illusions to toy with his opponents psychologically, and he immediately breaks ranks with Eggman, allowing him to stand on his own as a villain.

As a character, Infinite is essentially an in-universe version of the edgy original characters the Sonic fandom has pumped out over the years, and Flynn leans into this hard. Infinite is intimidating, but Flynn also plays up his self-seriousness and psychotic motivations for laughs a bit. Both sides of the fandom's opinion of Infinite get time to shine, and the result is delightfully demented.

Since Flynn took the reins of the narrative department, Sonic's world has changed in ways no one would have thought possible. Now, after just a few years, a character as underutilized as Infinite can be the threat Sonic fans were hoping he'd be when he was first revealed.

RE9 Requiem Leon

If Metacritic's user ratings are anything to go by, Resident Evil Requiem is the second-most beloved game ever. Still, savvy eagle-eyed detractors have found a mistake that might expose Resident Evil Requiem for what it really is: a bad cloth physics simulator.

On March 13, Twitter user @de3dsoul posted a video of Grace in RE9 interacting with some curtains that deform in a less realistic way than their counterpart in Red Dead Redemption 2, a game from 2018.

https://twitter.com/de3dsoul/status/2032595812803350630?s=20

Maybe de3dsoul's objective was merely to point out that Red Dead Redemption 2's attention to detail remains astounding, but this is the Internet, so the whole thing quickly devolved into thousands of people wondering just what exactly had gone wrong with Requiem.

Resident Evil Requiem RE9 Grace
Image via Capcom

Why are the devs behind the game that allowed for screenshots like the one above so "lazy?"

Those curtains exist to give an extra layer of realism and visual flair to that room, but they play no part in the overall game. The fact that they exist at all is a plus that players should welcome or just leave be. Developers and artists had to work hard to put that into a game that didn't need them. Complaining so loudly about an aspect not being perfect will, at best, raise the odds that nobody bothers with including similar physics in the game next time. That's an actual possibility. Many AAA games just feature no such physics, and Internet critics handle their absence better than a developer's attempt at something that merely falls somewhat short of what a more expensive game that took way longer to develop had achieved.

Now, if Resident Evil 9 were a game about fighting the classic ghost whose body is composed entirely of bedsheets, I'd totally want Capcom to go all in on the ghost's cloth physics. Still, aside from aliens, that's about the only kind of horror monster we still haven't fought in modern Resident Evil games.

Some have pointed out the obvious, like how Rockstar puts out a game once every decade, whereas the new Capcom has been delivering varied bangers every year, not to mention a Resident Evil title every two years. And that's the more level-headed opinion, as some others have gone straight into hot take territory, responding to the tweet with "Crazy how RE9 is 10x more fun that [sic!] RDR2 to play."

And, despite finding the incredible amount of detail put into every aspect of Red Dead Redemption 2, I must agree.

Slay the Spire Defect character.

While everyone's talking about Slay the Spire 2 and its stellar success, I've been browsing the Steam store incessantly over the past few days trying to find something that'd let me kick back and relax with my new DualSense controller.

And on that search, I came across several titles, both in my own library and on the store itself. I landed first on Devil May Cry 5, but that quickly ran up as I completed the game in two sittings and found myself yearning for more, something that'd let me sink in a lot of hours without spending my brainpower too much. That's when I chanced upon Slay the Spire, the first game, aptly discounted and priced at just under six euros.

You know I had to buy it at that price, but little did I know that I had just secured an endless source of fun for literal pennies.

The official Slay the Spire splash image featuring one of the characters.
The Silent is certainly my favorite character. Image via Mega Crit

Last night, around three or four in the morning, I ran the game to see what it was all about. I left at around six, over two and a half hours after launching the title for the first time. I kept dying to the final boss of Act 2 - The City, who was constantly that same enemy who kept spawning minions that dealt an incredible amount of damage per turn. I tried three characters total, wanting so bad to learn how to play the Defect and master those orbs of his, failing to even make it to the end of Act 1 using him.

The Silent proved to be my favorite of them all, though. Using poisons can genuinely break the game, and its mastery of doing damage to all enemies at once really helps when you want to clear large groups of mobs in as few turns as possible. On top of that, it can shield itself from most harm if you play your cards right (literally in this case), so that helped me reach the final boss of Act 3 - The Beyond today.

Slay the Spire combat.
I really wanted to love the Defect, but I just don't know how to play him effectively. Image via Mega Crit Games

I'm yet to beat that boss, though, but after five hours in the game, I genuinely cannot believe how fun and addictive it actually is. I knew I was going to get stuck in because roguelikes are my jam, but never could I have predicted it would kick in as soon as I first laid my hands upon it.

With Slay the Spire 2 out now, I'm inclined to try that one as well. Now, I won't prejudicate and will offer all my available time and effort to clear Slay the Spire 1 at least once before moving on to the sequel. There's a lot to play, unlock, and do in the original title that I think I'm set for a good while before I run out of fun to have.

What an incredible game this is, and it really opened my eyes up to the success of Slay the Spire 2 and why people would want to see this formula improved and expanded in meaningful ways. It's just amazing.

Rhodes Hill RE9 Requiem

The fixed camera perspectives of old have largely been lost in modern times. They were created as smart optimization tools that helped keep only what is important in focus while not rendering anything else but also grew into a recognizable aspect of classic horror games that oftentimes upped the tension and kept the player engaged and centered.

Most of the older Resident Evil games, particularly the first three main titles and then some others, used fixed camera angles. Whenever you crossed preset "thresholds," the camera angle would switch. Say you were going down a hallway and then made a left to enter another hallway, the camera would switch as you made that turn, focusing just on that specific hallway while your character maintains freedom of movement through the environment.

It's a nice trick, an old one, that immediately invokes a "classic" vibe and wasn't just a horror game gimmick either. With Resident Evil Requiem now out and about, first- and third-person perspectives are the only ways to play. Most of the industry uses these two camera styles, and odds are that fixed camera angles won't ever make a mainstream comeback now that we have the machines to drive detailed environments.

But a player wanted to see how RE9 would have turned out if it still used fixed cameras, and I honestly think the results are amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYHcKt3z6Y0

Specifically, I think Grace's segments would have been even more terrifying if we didn't know, or had no way of learning, what was behind each corner. If you play the game in first-person, then some of that fixed camera tension is maintained, since peeking around corners or learning if there are enemies around is rather challenging when you have to actually come around a corner to check it out. In third person, though, you can use the camera itself to get a fairly large view of the environment, and by editing FOV settings, the first-person camera loses a lot of its tension as well.

With these theoretical fixed cameras, your view would be largely limited, and you would actively have to facetank enemies or locations to switch the camera angle and learn if that place is safe to explore. What's more, while exploring that hallway, you'd lose sight of the place you came from and would have to again force yourself into switching the angle to get some information.

All of this is rather easy to do with modern perspectives, for the reasons I outlined above.

The fixed angles above also make every frame turn into a literal painting. Since they are focusing very specific parts of the level, they also make everything look much better. Every angle serves as a still picture of sorts, allowing different elements to respect mathematical ratios, thus "popping" out much more and becoming more pleasing to the eye.

What's very interesting to me is how well the levels and the props within them work with these fixed angles, almost as if Capcom had them in mind when making the game. It goes to show how something that goes largely unnoticed can become fundamental to your game's design just by changing the perspective.

This sort of game design is on its way out, however. Most games use a first- or third-person view, and the last title I played that did have a fixed camera was Signalis. That game is amazing in every sense of the word, and I wrote as much some time ago, and I think it would have significantly lost in terms of vibe and atmosphere if it used standard perspectives instead of its preset angles.

The horror genre is yearning for more innovation and change, but it might also do well to go back to its roots and see what made those old games great in the first place. Perhaps the fixed camera angles have something to do with that, and this RE9 concept surely does make a strong argument for that.

Marmoush Showdown card in FC 26

The Omar Marmoush vs. Jurrien Timber Showdown SBC is live in FC 26, and you will have to make an important decision over the next couple of days.

Like all Showdown cards, both Timber and Marmoush are eligible for upgrades. That will be decided by the result between Manchester City and Arsenal when they meet in the final of the Carabao Cup. While you can do both, only one card will be eligible for the upgrades.

This guide will help you make the correct choice.

All Marmoush vs. Timber Showdown SBC tasks in FC 26

Before we get down to the decisions, let's look at the tasks to complete for both set of challenges.

Marmoush

Task 1

  • Min. 1 Players from: Manchester City
  • Min. 1 Players: Team of the Week
  • Min. Team Rating: 86

Task 2

  • Min. 1 Players from: Premier League
  • Min. Team Rating: 87

Task 3

  • Min. 1 Players: Team of the Week
  • Min. Team Rating: 87

Timber

Task 1

  • Min. 1 Players from: Netherlands
  • Min. Team Rating: 86

Task 2

  • Min. 1 Players from: Arsenal
  • Min. Team Rating: 87

Task 3

  • Min. 1 Players from: Premier League
  • Min. 1 Players: Team of the Week
  • Min. Team Rating: 87

Which card should you pick

If you have a position to fill in your squad, you should make your decision based on that. If you need a defender, you should choose Timber. If you need an attacker, it's Marmoush who's worth the pick. However, which is the better card before the upgrades?

Marmoush is clearly the better card between the two. Both cards have weaknesses, but Timber isn't a meta option. He lacks Intercept, which is absolutely necessary for any defensive item. His stat distribution is alright, and he could get 90 Defense and Physicality if Arsenal wins the final. However, the lack of Intercept will always remain a worry.

Marmoush, on the other hand, already looks like a pretty meta choice. He has Rapid+ and Low Driven+, which are amazing to have on an attacker. He also has the base Finesse Shot, Technical, First Touch, Trickster, and Incisive Pass, which makes it easy for you to go past your opponents and score. The 4* Weak Foot is a worry, but you can manage it by going for the correct angles.

The only minus point for Marmoush is his lack of Tiki Taka playstyle. With just 83 Passing, he will struggle to make passes when the space is tight. However, an incoming upgrade or an evolution should remove that issue.

Dante shooting at an enemy in DMC5.

Now that we have another mainline Resident Evil entry after several remakes, and Pragmata is coming up next month, Capcom's release schedule should be a bit clearer when it comes to major titles. And that vacuum, instead of being covered by more Resident Evil releases, should be filled with some love for Devil May Cry.

Last night, I finally finished Devil May Cry 5, Capcom's latest game in that franchise. It was an amazing experience, one that has really put into perspective how good Capcom can make a game look. The story itself is rather simple but very effective at what it does, i.e., providing a strong and interesting backdrop for our characters to exist and do their things in. It's flashy, the music is awesome, and I loved every second of it.

Vergil and Dante at the end of DMC5.

And then I realized it came out seven years ago, in 2019. In all that time, Capcom hasn't put out a single Devil May Cry game, remaster or remake (outside the mobile space). The HD Collection of the originals came out in 2018, a year prior to DMC5's launch, and it's been radio silence since. The company has focused most of its efforts on Resident Evil, and for a good reason: post-RE7, the franchise has been more popular than it ever was, outdoing and outselling itself time and again.

Whether it's remakes or mainline games, Resident Evil makes a crapton of money for Capcom, and deservedly so. Everything they've put out in that series has been phenomenal (with the controversial exception of RE3make, but that's up for debate), and fans have rewarded the company accordingly. But DMC fans have been left in the dark for far too long, and there really needs to be a reawakening of Devil May Cry like that of Resident Evil.

DMC5 certainly serves as a great starting point, and the cliffhanger ending of the game is the perfect segue into a sequel or spin-off. A lot remains to be told about the main cast of characters, and DMC5 set up many, many interesting stories and character arcs that would be amazing to see firsthand. Unfortunately, nothing has yet been announced, let alone confirmed, by Capcom.

Pragmata is the company's next major release, with hype slowly but surely building up around it, since it's going to break Capcom's recent tradition of focusing almost exclusively on its established franchises and IPs. From what we've seen so far, the game looks mighty fine and might jumpstart a whole new success story for Capcom to brag about (not that it doesn't have many of those already).

But after that, I certainly hope DMC gets some extra love. The old games are awesome, but some of them really deserve to be remade from the ground up and brought up to speed with modern gameplay and quality-of-life standards. Capcom did elevate DMC to a "core IP" last December (thanks PC Gamer), signaling it'll start producing new games, remasters, or remakes, but we haven't really seen much about that in these few months.

The summer is making its way toward us, though, and with it comes the Summer Game Fest. Whether or not Capcom has anything ready to share regarding the future of Devil May Cry remains to be seen, but I think there's no franchise in the company's repertoire that deserves to be considered more than DMC.

What happens when the angriest man in gaming swaps his Blades of Chaos for a spear and a Metroidvania map? God of War: Sons of Sparta delivers a perfectly enjoyable retro adventure, but one that struggles to capture the spectacle and fury that define the series. It's good… just not very memorable.
