PCGamesN Sunday, January 26, 2025 10:29 AM Hollywood Animal developer Weappy Wholesome has delayed the upcoming simulation and city building game set during the dawn of modern cinema, because there are just far too many videogames coming out. Twisting the metropolis management of Cities Skylines into the murky, early 20th-century world of show business, Hollywood Animal is one of the most promising strategy games of the year. The only problem is that it was originally set to launch in the middle of one of the busiest periods of 2025. MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Best strategy games, Best management games, Best building games |
PCGamesN Sunday, January 26, 2025 10:26 AM Launching a new MMORPG is never easy - along with all the regular worries of releasing any game to the public, you also have to deal with server strain, and ensuring that players can explore the world and interact as intended. You're contending with established titans such as World of Warcraft and FF14, and with big-budget new free-to-play games like Throne and Liberty. Indie MMO The Quinfall recently launched into early access on Friday January 24, offering a vast medieval fantasy world for players to explore. It promises plenty to do across both PvE and PvP, with dozens of professions and a driving central story, but server issues and optimization concerns have left it with a negative Steam reception so far. Looking ahead, 2025 appears to be a fantastic year for JRPGs. We already know about some great upcoming titles like Atelier Yumia. Plus, there are likely a few JRPGs we still don't know about yet. Regardless, our staff put together our list of the upcoming JRPG titles that are our most anticipated for the year of 2025.
Siliconera Speaks Up: Most Anticipated JRPG of 2025
Honestly? I'm excited to go through Suikoden I and II again. I loved the games, and playing Eiyuden Chronicle last year made me long for a chance to go through these two incredibly solid entries in the series again. I mean, I could just grab my PSX discs and pop them in, but playing on my Switch in handheld mode would be even more ideal. -- Jenni
Even with highly anticipated JRPGs already announced like Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, my most anticipated JRPG as of right now is The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II. Sure, I can't wait for Trails in the Sky the 1st, which will remake one of my favorite JRPGs of all time, but I have already played that game. I will always want to try something new and Trails through Daybreak II is just that.
I loved Van and the other members of his ragtag team in the first of the Calvard titles, plus the locations of the Republic were terrific to explore. However, the original felt just a tad too short and with a story that felt second to everything else, unlike past Trails games. I hope this sequel will fully live up to the potential of this story arc. Of course, this is with the current info we have right now, so I'm excluding unannounced JRPGs I hope we see in 2025 like a new NieR or Persona 6. -- Cody
My most anticipated JRPG for 2025 is also The Legend of Heroes, though I'm more interested in Trails in the Sky the 1st. Yes, I'm one of those people who played the original one back in the day and then dropped it because the battle system was a bit too slow for my taste. So I never actually got into the game, nor the series. It'll be nice to get into it for real (especially since I actually own a bunch of Trails games that I bought on sale, yet never even started them) and Trails in the Sky the 1st seems like the ultimate starting point. -- Stephanie

Voice Love on Air is one of those games that I love because of the Tokimeki Memorial elements, but at the same time the dating sim sometimes frustrates me due to other decisions. For example, the way in which it feels more repetitive than a game like Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side and the inclusion of unnecessary AI art instead of actual original works. The result is a game that can be fun and entertaining, but might disappoint some folks.
Aki owns a recording studio and hopes to put together serious work, but he's severely in debt. Some of his friends are here to help. By putting together boys love (BL) drama recordings by training his skills, building his reputation, finding actors, doing proper casting, accurately directing the performers, and meeting deadlines, we might just help him not only get by, but become a success. Naturally, the actors you meet and recruit could also become your love interests, though whether or not you can pursue them right away determines how many runs you've gone through.
Since Voice Love on Air is following the Tokimeki Memorial type of dating sim formula, the game involves plotting out your daily life in the hopes of earning money and finding love. You'll set a schedule on a weekly basis, choosing which stats to improve to meet goals necessary to produce projects. (Producing projects also increases stats as well.) Once you hit the right milestones, you can assign parts based on love interests you've met and the types of roles they can play. This, as well as meeting with them during your downtime, influences Aki's relationship with them. As you form a bond, you can learn more about them, unlock events, and earn an ending. That is, if you also manage to make enough money by certain deadlines so you can keep the studio open.
The repetitive nature comes in when you get to the studio and project management portion of Voice Love on Air. While in the Tokimeki Memorial games things are more broken up by events, daily life, and novel interactions with classmates, that doesn't really happen here. The occasional intrusions don't feel as unique after a while. It follows patterns of visual novel dating sims, which can lock certain love interests away unless you've played through at least once, when it comes to Yuki. The training schedule and voice direction minigame also work the same way every time and don't ever feel too difficult, so the lack of challenge gets disappointing.
The one downside is that Voice Love on Air uses AI assets. It's incredibly disappointing and obvious when it happens, especially when compared to character art and other designs. For example, when you are assigned to a project, there will be an icon representing the voice drama or recording that appears there and on the "CD" at the end. This is very obviously AI, doesn't match the tone and art direction for the rest of the game, and it is so disheartening. Especially since this isn't a major, mainline game and the topic involves artists and creative work. You'd think Noisy Fish and Softstar Entertainment would be more considerate of that and tap an actual artist for the additional imagery.
Voice Love on Air features an interesting premise, and I always love seeing the influence of Tokimeki Memorial on other dating sims and games. It's especially evident here, given the stat-building and needing to work to arrange time to meet with love interests and go on dates at certain locations when relationship levels are hit. This also means it can feature some of the same repetition, since you'll need to go through classes and jobs to hit stat requirements and achieve goals. Also, the inclusion of AI assets, rather than actual art from real creatives is disheartening.
Voice Love on Air is available for the Nintendo Switch and PC.

CASETiFY has released a new collection of Y3K My Melody smartphone accessories. This is the second line of products it released in collaboration with Sanrio's My Melody mascot. [Thanks, PR Times!]
This collaboration is to commemorate My Melody's 50th anniversary. It transports her to the year 3000 (hence Y3K), and features a very futuristic style. The color scheme blends metallic pink and black, combined with a retro bubble font that's reminiscent of the Y2K aesthetic. One of the items CASETiFY has in this line is a pink chain that serves as a smartphone strap. However, the design of it is stylish enough that you can wear it on its own as a bracelet.
The My Melody Y3K 2025 page does not exist on the global CASETiFY website. You will need to be in Japan to access it. Once you do, you can see the prices for everything. Costs for smartphone cases range between 9020 JPY ($58.10) and 12,870 JPY ($82.55). Other items available include the wrist strap (8250 JPY), an earbuds case (starts from 5280 JPY), and a charging stand (15,180 JPY).
The CASETiFY My Melody Y3K 2025 products are readily available in Japan. Other commemorative products for My Melody's 50th anniversary include a LINE theme and a Squishmallow.

With brands like Akko, Epomaker, and Nuphy on the rise, it's easier than ever for people to jump into the keyboard hobby, even if they only have a rudimentary knowledge of tech. Especially now, as remote work becomes more common, it's not uncommon to see people get into keyboards to make typing away all day a little more bearable and fun. And what better way to spice up your work space than to buy something featuring your favorite game or character? Boasting such high quality that you don't even need to like Silver Wolf to enjoy them, the Honkai: Star Rail Silver Wolf keycaps and desk mat from Hyte are perfect for any "keeb" novice or enthusiast.
The desk mat has an image of Silver Wolf stretching while a UI interface pops up next to her. Size-wise, it's a standard 900 x 400 mm. I can fit my mouse, 65% keyboard, and cloud-shaped wrist rest on it with room to spare. It's large enough for a full-size keyboard, so don't worry if that's what you have. Because the design is on the busy side, it hides dust accumulation pretty well. This might be a bad thing for some people, like myself, who don't clean until they see that they have to.
The one unfortunate thing about the desk mat is the fact that it's a desk mat. You can't actually see the design on it if you use in its intended manner. My keyboard and mouse block out most of Silver Wolf's body. Outside of when I remove everything from the mat so I can clean under my keyboard and mouse pad, I only see part of her face. That's too bad, since I really like the way she looks on here compared to the version of the desk mat that just has her splash art.
The natural lighting from the sun and the camera on my phone washed out the color of the desk mat. Trust me, it's not this pale in person.
In my opinion, the keycaps are the star of the Honkai: Star Rail Silver Wolf bundle from Hyte. Coincidentally, I'd recently purchased a set of keycaps and swapped them into my Halo65. It took longer than it should've to do so, as I had to fish around the box and trays to look for stray alphabet keys or the perfect size I needed. Meanwhile, the Hyte Silver Wolf keycaps were so well organized that it only took me around fifteen minutes to replace all the keycaps on my Paw65. That time is just an estimation. But the process certainly felt less painful than other keyboards I put keycaps into, since I didn't have to spend as much time rummaging through the box for a specific key or size.
The Silver Wolf keycaps are standard for the hobby, meaning you can use them in any hot-swappable mechanical keyboard. They're Cherry profile, MX-compatible, and made from dye-sublimated PBT plastic. The surface of each key is smooth and comfortable to the touch. Conversely, the lack of texture on the keycaps makes it easy for your fingers to slip and slide on them if you're not careful. So if you're used to the more pebbly texture of certain keycaps, these ones might take some adjustment time.
Something I noticed soon after I placed them into my board was that the backspace felt strange. It felt squishy and the sound was muted, like there was too much lube on the switch. Of course, that sounds like a switch issue; I'm still using the stock and pre-lubed linear switches that came with the Paw65 because I couldn't for the life of me swap them out for the WS Morandi switches I intended to put in here. But the backspace never gave me problems when I used the stock keycaps. I tested the backspace from other sets as well, and only the Hyte one felt strange. After typing for a few days with them, the backspace stopped feeling so odd, so I probably needed to break it in.
Visually, these keycaps are exactly my style. It shifts from light to dark in a blue gradient, and the bright pink accent keys provide fun pops of color and customization. Those accent keys helped the entire set fit with the pale pink of my Paw65, since it would've looked odd without them. The accent keys use retro gamer core designs, like an old Famicom controller and a battery indicator. But there are also plenty of iconography from Honkai: Star Rail. For example, my task manager shortcut button looks like the Quantum symbol, while Silver Wolf's face appears as my End key.
But what about how it sounds like? The superior sound of a custom mechanical keyboard is one of the easiest ways to stumble down this rabbit hole of a hobby. Well, those familiar with PBT Cherry profile keycaps should already have a good idea as to how these sound. If you're someone who wants a thocky keyboard, these might not be the best ones for that sound, as they're PBT plastic and Cherry profile. You'll need to mod the keyboard to make it sound deeper; the Silver Wolf desk mat isn't thick enough to serve as a dampener.
As a note, the previous keycaps I had on the Paw65 were DDA profile, and these guys thocked. So I know for a fact that the higher pitch coming from my keyboard is from the Silver Wolf keycaps. In my opinion, these keycaps sound creamy. And if you want the specs for the Paw65 that'll cause it to have that effect, it has an aluminum case with an FR4 plate, and it was gasket mounted. I did not mod the keyboard in any way, and I'm using the stock foam and stock Pink Lotus linear switches.
My favorite touch about the Honkai: Star Rail Silver Wolf keycaps from Hyte is that the hiragana on the keycaps look retro, like I'm reading text from an older video game. Other text that appears on the keycaps, such as "Stage Clear" on my Enter and "Quantum" on my Backspace, use a similar retro gaming font to the hiragana. The contrast between them and the more modern typeface for the alphabet keys is really nice. An entire keyboard in the retro gaming font would've been too much.
This is more of a personal aesthetic choice, but the subtlety of the keycaps' reference to Silver Wolf is something I appreciate. If you know Silver Wolf and Honkai: Star Rail, you can recognize the Quantum, Trace, and emoji icons on here. But someone who's unfamiliar with Star Rail would probably assume these are a more generic "gamer girl" aesthetic set. I much prefer these sorts of anime or video game keycaps, as opposed to the ones where the character appears at the side and takes up three keys.
With their cute color scheme and practical usefulness, the Honkai: Star Rail Silver Wolf desk mat and keycaps are the perfect way for any fan of the game or character to level up their space. If you're not someone who likes Silver Wolf a lot, though, the desk mat might be a lot. I really hope Hyte collaborates with Honkai: Star Rail again in the future, and releases merchandise for characters I like. I'll snap it up as soon as I can.
Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. You can pre-order the Hyte Silver Wolf accessories via the Hyte website. The Y70 case bundle is still available as well.
