Nintendo might never announce a new Earthbound. It certainly seems intent on never releasing the sequel, Mother 3, in the West. But at least a fan remake of the first game in the trilogy might finally see the light of day. EarthBound Beginnings Remake is a ROM hack that recreates the first game using the 16-bit look…

Assassin's Creed Shadows has already secured Ubisoft a much needed win, with the sprawling open-world game being one of this year's best sellers. However, it seems a reveal (or maybe even a surprise drop) of a new Assassin's Creed game is about to happen. A notable dataminer has uncovered what they believe to be evidence of an all-new AC experience, and it's not the recently dated Claws of Awaji DLC for Shadows. The dataminer whittles the possibilities down to two potential suspects - the heavily rumored remake of my personal favorite in the series, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, or the upcoming multiplayer spinoff codenamed Assassin's Creed Invictus.

Nintendo's legal proceedings against Pocketpair's Palworld seemed inevitable, and when they finally arrived, it was big news. When I first saw footage of Light of Motiram - another open-world survival game, this time from Tencent subsidiary Polaris Quest - a similar chain of events seemed almost certain to arise. Sharing a lot of aesthetic resemblances to Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Sony was always going to feel aggrieved by the game. Orphie and Magus Will Be Playable in Zenless Zone Zero

HoYoVerse drip marketing on social media revealed the next new playable character in Zenless Zone Zero will be Orphie Magnusson and Magus. The two, who appeared in the 2.0 storyline for the game, will be a single unit due to the nature of the characters. We don't know if they will be an A-rank or S-rank unit yet.

In Zenless Zone Zero, Magus is the Obol Squad captain, and that character is actually the tail of the member of the squad named Orphie. The two of them fight together as a duo. (It's sort of a similar situation to Huohuo and Mr. Tail in Honkai: Star Rail.) There are very few details about how they will function in-game. We do know that they are supposedly an Attack type of unit, and when they fight they deal Fire damage to enemies.

Here's the official art of the pair:

We got to hear both of their voice actors and see a quick animated clip of them via a YouTube Short too.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pwDBrFvr4zc

This means both of the Zenless Zone Zero 2.2 characters are from Obol Squad. Seed Jr is the other one. They join Soldier 11 and Trigger.

Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and Seed will be a new Agent in the 2.2 update that arrives on September 4, 2025.

Next 2D Style My Hero Academia Figures Are Bakugo and Froppy

Bellfine shared its next two My Hero Academia Palette Masters Series figures at Wonder Festival 2025 Summer, which involve painting styles that make the characters look 2D, and they are Tsuyu Asui in her Froppy hero suit and Katsuki Bakugo in his UA High School uniform. Pre-orders are already open for the former, with WorldShopping offering global shipping, and she'll appear in January 2026. There's no release window for him yet. In the past, figures in this line eventually also appeared on Crunchyroll

Both the Tsuyu Asui as Froppy and Katsuki Bakugo UA school uniform My Hero Academia Palette Masters figures are 1/8 scale. This means they'll both be almost eight inches tall (200mm). They will be static, PVC figures with no extra parts. Each one is designed with a paint job that makes it look like they were pulled from a scene in the anime

Here are the promotional pictures Bellfine shared:

AmiAmi also shared some photos of Bakugo on display at WonFes 2025 Summer.

https://twitter.com/amiamihobbynews/status/1949276385119490466

Finally, here are the official photos of Froppy from the product page.

There's only one other figure in this My Hero Academia 2D Palette Masters Series, as Bellfine already announced a Himiko Toga one. She's set to launch in August 2025.

My Hero Academia Palette Masters figures of Tsuyu Asui as Froppy and Katsuki Bakugo in a UA High School uniform are in development, with hers available to pre-order ahead of a January 2026 debut. Viz Media handles the manga outside Japan, and the anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.

3.5 Honkai: Star Rail Special Program Stream Airs This Week

HoYoVerse confirmed the next Honkai: Star Rail Special Program streaming going over the end parts of the Amphoreus storyline in 3.5 will air on August 2, 2025. It will air on YouTube and Twitch at 4:30am PT/7:30am ET. The update itself is expected to launch on August 13, 2025, after the Blade, Firefly, and Jingliu rerun banners end.

The 3.5 update will pick up the Amphoreus Trailblaze Mission storyline. 3.4 involved a number of major reveals involving characters we'd met and the Chrysos Heirs taking part in the Flame-Chase. We should see more reveals and a prominent part for March 7th in this next patch.

We also already know the next characters who will appear as five-stars in Honkai: Star Rail. They're two more Chrysos Heirs. One is Cerydra, a Harmony character who deals Wind damage. She'll also appear as a host for the program alongside Owlbert, Screwllum, and The Herta. Hysilens, aka Helektra, is the other new unit. She's a Nihility character who deals Physical damage.

Here's the placeholder stream on YouTube for Honkai: Star Rail Special Program 3.5.

If you haven't finished the Fate/stay Night crossover in Honkai: Star Rail, don't worry. It is going to run for a few more patches. So you still have time to get Saber from her banner or a second copy of Archer.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Special Program stream for 3.5 airs at 4:30am PT/7:30am ET on August 2, 2025. The 3.5 patch should arrive on August 13, 2025.

See Taito Spiritale Guilty Gear Bridget and Elphelt Figure Updates

We already knew Taito would add new Guilty Gear Bridget and Elphelt figures to its Spiritale line up, and new prototypes for each one appeared at Wonder Festival 2025 Summer. The Elphelt is based on her most recent appearance in Guilty Gear Strive. The Bridget one is inspired by a more classic look that appeared back in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R. No release windows are available for either one. However, Bridget is further along in development, so she'll likely appear first.

These Guilty Gear Bridget and Elphelt figures are both static, 1/7 scale ones. This means they could be between eight and nine inches tall. There will be no extra parts or pieces. Both are based on the standard color schemes for their in-game outfits as well. Each one also features their weapons, with Elphelt wielding her mic and Bridget in the midst of attacking with her yo-yo. The latter's figure even features a cloud of dust on the base to suggest movement.

Here's how those two look:

This is the third Bridget figure from Spiritale. The previous one was based on her Guilty Gear Strive appearance. One was a standard one, while the other involved an alternate take on it with her purple color scheme.

There's no release window for the Spiritale Guilty Gear Bridget and Elphelt figures, but since Bridget appeared as a painted prototype we could end up seeing pre-orders for hers launch in the near future. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is on the Switch, PS3, Vita, Xbox 360, and PC. Guilty Gear Strive is on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The Dual Rulers anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.

Unicorn Overlord Berengaria and Virginia Figure Prototypes Appear

As part of the Apex-Toys Wonder Festival 2025 Summer reveals, the company showed off its updated Unicorn Overlord Berengaria and Virginia figure prototypes again. They both are much further along in development this time around. Each is part of the LimePie line-up.

Both the Unicorn Overlord Berengaria and Virginia figure prototypes ended up being fully painted at this event. This means each one could be close to pre-orders opening. As such, it is likely we could see them either in late 2025 or early 2026.

Each of these figures will be 1/8 scale. This means they'll be between seven and eight inches tall. The Virginia one last appeared back in October 2024. Meanwhile, the Berengaria showed up at WonFes 2025 Winter in February 2025. Each of them wear their notable costumes from when we first meet them in the game, and both feature an active, combat-ready pose.

Here's how the two look so far:

These are two of many Unicorn Overlord figures. Some past ones included Melisandre, YahnaRosalindeEltolinde, and Scarlett.

Unicorn Overlord is on the Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X, and we will likely see the Berengaria and Virginia figure pre-orders open in the next few weeks.

Apex-Toys Persona 3 and 5 Protagonist Figures Shown

During Wonder Festival 2025 Summer, Apex-Toys showed off both the Persona 5 Royal Ren "Joker" Amamiya and Persona 3 Reload Makoto Yuki protagonist figures. Both first were announced at WonFes 2025 Winter back in February 2025. This is the first time prototypes appeared.

In each case, these are unpainted Persona prototypes of the protagonists Joker from Persona 5 and Makoto Yuki from Persona 3. Each one is part of the LimePie series of static figures. Each one will be a 1/8 scale model. This means they should each be around seven inches tall.

Both of these images are shown with one pose and are designed to be static figures. It is unknown if they could perhaps come with additional parts as bonuses. In Joker's case, he's adjusting his glove. For Makoto, he is holding one of the Persona cards.

Here's how both look:

There's no release window yet for either the Apex-Toys Persona 5 Royal Ren "Joker" Amamiya and Persona 3 Reload Makoto Yuki protagonist figures. Since both are unpainted, it could be 2026 at the earliest.

Persona 3 Reload is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Persona 5 Royal is on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

PEAK friend giving a high five

Playing PEAK with friends can lead to some hilarious moments. Watching your friends climb a mountain only to accidentally walk into a poisonous plant, tumble off a ledge, or slip on a jellyfish makes for some fun memories. Combine this with emotes, and you've got yourself a great time.

How to emote in PEAK

You can emote in PEAK by holding down 'R' on your keyboard, mousing over one of the game's emote options, and releasing the R key when you've made your choice. Each one will activate temporarily, letting you use them repeatedly if you want to mess with your friends or experiment with your options.

At the time of writing, PEAK has eight emotes to pick from:

  • Salute
  • Thumbs up
  • Think
  • No-no
  • Play dead
  • Shrug
  • Crossed arms
  • Dance

PEAK emote wheel
Screenshot by Destructoid

While Aggro Crab and Landfall may introduce more in the future, these are what we have to work with for now. If you don't want to wait for more, you can also search around for PEAK mods through Thunderstore, Nexus Mods, and other trusted sources.

Although you won't be able to see yourself emote, your friends will see everything in full view. Similarly, if another player in your lobby emotes, you'll be able to see what they look like.

How to ping in PEAK

If you want to communicate an important item, landmark, or location to your team without using emotes or voice comms, you can ping by pressing your middle mouse wheel while hovering over the area. Doing this lets your character point at a spot to signal something worth looking at.

pinging in PEAK
Screenshot by Destructoid

The main use of this feature from a strategic point of view is to point out luggage bags, mushrooms, ropes, and other useful spots that help you and your team climb up to the top of your level's mountain more easily. Similarly, if you have someone using binoculars, they'll have an easier time finding these special and communicating where to go through pings. Alternatively, you can ping a potential ledge to climb to if you notice a linear path upward that others might have missed.

If strategy isn't your thing, you can also use it to ping a teammate who recently passed out after falling off a ledge or getting poisoned. My friend group and I have had a fair share of this, and it always makes for some funny moments. You can also spam pings someone to bug them if you're feeling mischievous, even if it's at the cost of distracting them.

Bradley Barcola in EA FC 26 at the Parc de Princess

EA FC 26 beta will be out live pretty soon, as of writing, and it could be your first chance to enjoy the upcoming game and what it has to offer.

The beta is the first opportunity for a selected audience to test out the new gameplay. While there will be several changes before the full launch, the beta is always good to get a first impression. It's also available for free (although you'll have to get lucky).

For starters, you'll have to sign up for the beta.

How to sign up for EA FC 26 beta?

The process of signing up for the beta is pretty much standard for any other game that EA Sports releases.

  • Log in to your EA account from the official website.
  • Click on your profile avatar (on the top part of the screen).
  • Go to Subscriptions and Memberships.
  • Activate EA Playtesting. Select EA FC 26 if that's available (if you already have activated playtesting in the past, you won't have to do it again).

Note that this doesn't automatically guarantee you'll get a code for the beta. There are additional rules that you'll have to adhere to.

  • Accept the User and EA FC 26 Beta Agreement
  • Have an active PS Plus or Xbox Live subscription, which is mandatory
  • Have an internet connection for online play
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Sign up for Community Playtesting on the EA website
  • You must have played EA FC 25 actively.

The beta is likely to be restricted to a few regions of the world, as was the case in previous years. Whether EA Sports changes the rule this year remains to be seen. The process of signing up for the beta will remain the same.

How to play EA FC 26 beta?

If your application is successful, you'll get a code in your registered email. Here's the key: the code will be bound to your registered email. The code can't be transferred to another person or used with a different email.

Any attempt to sell the code for any kind of remuneration is against the terms and conditions. Make sure not to pay for a potential code, as you're very likely to get scammed. Any progress in the beta won't carry over to the final version, so don't be disheartened if you don't manage to get code.

A player battles a sizable horde of zombies in Project Zomboid.

The zombie apocalypse scenario has lost favor in recent years, and thank goodness for that. Seeing a new zombie game pop up every other week did start to get old after a while, didn't it? That said, few of us ever got the zombie game we really wanted.

That is, until a little indie studio called The Indie Stone developed Project Zomboid. Sure, early iterations of it were rough, disjointed, and limiting. But the devs put in a lot of hard, dedicated work over the years to make what I believe to be the best zombie survival game we have today.

But what makes Project Zomboid so good? And, more importantly, is this almost forgotten indie gem still worth playing in 2025 and beyond?

My return to Project Zomboid

The death screen in Project Zomboid, showing the amount of zombies killed and the hours and days the player survived.
Screenshot by Destructoid

Right, I call Project Zomboid almost forgotten because I myself almost forgot about it. It wasn't until the recent dry spell we've had in game releases that I browsed through the darker, dustier corners of my library, and there it was. PZ.

In an instant, distant memories came flooding back as I immediately reinstalled the game. I remembered the desperate, pressing atmosphere, the crushing realism, the constant sense of danger, and, most of all, the sheer terror that this game once evoked in me.

But I'm older now, wiser, and way more desensitized. This game can't hurt me in 2025, with its funny isometric camera and janky controls, right?

And there it is. That rising panic. That rush of adrenaline. That... damn... jumpscare sound. Nope, I'm still scared every time I boot this game up. There's just something about knowing you're always one bite away from a character wipe that just freaks me out.

So what is it that makes Project Zomboid so good, and why is it the best zombie survival game we have?

Why Project Zomboid is still the best Zombie game we have

Zombies attack a wounded player in Project Zomboid.
Screenshot by Destructoid

We have plenty of fun zombie games today. The Dead Island series, Days Gone, the State of Decay (and its sequel), DayZ, and the list goes on for just about ever. Most of these, however, feel more like action games than survival, except for State of Decay and DayZ.

These two are great contenders, but DayZ falls out for me because it's more of a PvP survival shooter than a zombie game. The zombies are little more than a nuisance once you know how to handle them. State of Decay is more of a base management game and thus removes you from the action a bit. Still scary, still fun, but not quite a true zombie simulation.

Project Zomboid puts you right in the action, and then punishes you for the smallest mistake. Look away for a second, and you could end up infected and hours away from your inevitable death. And that's it, you lose your character and all the hours you spent building their skills. Whether you're just getting started or you've maxed out all your skills, a single bite ends you.

Apart from that, you get tired, hungry, and thirsty. You lose and gain weight depending on your diet. Your hair grows. The trees grow and, hopefully, so do your crops. Time keeps moving, and the challenge becomes fiercer as you run out of... well, everything. And while muscle strain and painful mortality might be some aspects that separate your PZ character from the immortal superhumans in other games, there's one critical aspect to discuss. The game's camera.

Now, many might think that the isometric camera is what holds Project Zomboid back from being a modern masterpiece, but I disagree. I think that's exactly what makes it so good – empty space.

The first-person camera gives you a decent view of everything in front of you. Whatever's behind you, you can't see, so it's just out of mind. The isometric camera (and the specific way Project Zomboid's camera works) makes you aware of the empty space behind you. You can see the landscape, just like you'll be aware of what's behind you as you walk along in real life, but you can't see what's in the landscape.

For all you know, there could be a horde right on your tail. You'll hear zombies around you, and as long as you turn around and see them, you're all good. It's when you don't see them that causes the real stress. Are they in a tree nearby, waiting to lunge out and end your run? Have they somehow snuck inside your safehouse?

This camera, instead of removing you from the action, adds so much to the atmosphere. There's an eeriness to it that's hard to beat with any other viewpoint.

In the end, the realism, the constant threat of death, the starvation, and the unique camera are all valid points that make Project Zomboid one of, if not the best zombie survival game we can play, even after thirteen years of early access.

But even with all of this said, how has it held up in 2025?

Is Project Zomboid still worth playing in 2025?

A player fights a small horde in Project Zomboid.
Screenshot by Destructoid

Obviously, I think it's not only worth playing, but it's a must-play. Build 42 is nearing official launch, and I've been messing with the unstable branch to check it out. Every build adds so much to the game, and this is no exception.

There are animals in the game world now. We can hunt deer, breed sheep and pigs, raise chickens, and more. This is obviously a huge addition to the game, the biggest in Build 42 by far, but there are also plenty of other changes.

There are basements now that can spawn randomly alongside or even inside houses, and many smaller changes that influence the feel of the game—some good, some not so much, but progress nonetheless.

Overall, it's a stunning game, and it's getting even better as time goes by.

Killing Floor 3 getting new skills guide

The Killing Floor 3 server status is worth knowing for all players who are trying to chop down as many zeds as possible.

While Tripwire's latest game has both single and multiplayer modes, you'll have to get access to the official servers to play. You'll need a persistent internet connection to enjoy the modes, which won't be possible if the servers are down.

Let's take a look at the current server status and how to stay aware of any changes.

Are Killing Floor 3 servers down?

As of writing on July 28, the servers for Killing Floor 3 are operational. There are no reports of widespread downtimes, and any connection issues are likely on the user side. That said, it's always helpful to know how to check the server status to find out if they're down.

How to check Killing Floor 3 server status?

The easiest way to check the game's server status is to use the official X account. Another way is to use the game's subreddit. If the servers are down, chances are that the information will be posted over there. If there has been an announcement about when the maintenance will be over, it should also be posted in the subreddit.

Another alternative is to use third-party sites like Downdetector. This website will help you remain aware of server downtimes. Search for the game, and if you see too many red dots, it simply means that the servers are down.

Typically, you'll get a server connection lost error if you can't connect to the official servers. This is applicable for situations when there are problems regarding your internet connection. If you're getting that error message frequently, there are a few solutions that you can try. If the server issues are from the official side of things, the error message could also pop up.

There are two exciting news items for the fans as of writing. The Rogue Black Ops team is returning in Season 5 at launch on August 7. But that's not all: the Zombies mode is in for the final saga in the new season. Zombies have been my favorite addition to the game, and I am certainly excited about the news.

So far, we have only one information: Reckoning. However, we should be able to get more details about a week from now when Activision starts to share the patch notes for Season 7.

BitLife character thinking about getting a new job

I'll admit it: I was one of those kids who dreamed of becoming a lawyer one day. I may not be one in real life, but becoming one in BitLife is easier than you'd expect. That is, if you know the steps to pursuing this role.

Becoming a lawyer in BitLife can be tricky if you're unsure which university degree to pursue or how to secure a job after your studies. Let's dive into how to become a lawyer for your next achievement, challenge, or scavenger hunt.

How to become a Lawyer in BitLife

Pursuing a lawyer job in BitLife requires getting a law school degree. The easiest way to achieve this is to obtain a university degree in criminal justice, but you can also go for English or political science. From here, you'll find positions such as Law Clerk or Junior Associate, each with a weighing scale emoji next to their names, for which you can apply.

The first step to becoming a lawyer is getting the right education for this career path. First, you'll need to graduate from secondary school without dropping out or committing any crimes. At the very least, if you need to commit a crime for one of BitLife's weekly challenges, avoid getting caught or emigrate to another country so you'll stay eligible for the job later.

Once you graduate from secondary school, apply for a criminal justice, political science, or English degree at university. If they don't appear right away, close and reopen BitLife or age up and recheck the list. Criminal justice is overall your safest bet, but any of these three will work. After completing the program, apply to law school and finish its set of courses.

Now that you have the right certifications for a lawyer job, look for a Law Clerk or Junior Associate position in your full-time job list. Like before, if it doesn't appear right away, close and reopen BitLife or age up. Once you find the job, apply for it and pass the interview to become a lawyer.

The lawyer career path in BitLife offers multiple paths to take. Below are some examples of promotions you can receive:

  • Junior Associate
  • Associate
  • Junior Partner
  • Partner

Each promotion comes with a pay raise. By the time you become a Partner, your progress will typically pause aside from additional raises. However, after working in the industry for over 30 years, you'll be eligible for a Magistrate job, allowing you to become a judge. Here are some examples of roles you'll find:

  • District Court Judge
  • Associate Chief Justice
  • Magistrate
  • Magistrate Court Judge

Working toward becoming a judge has multiple benefits, from more money to completing challenges and achievements. It's up to you to decide which path you pursue.
