Nintendo just reversed course on one of its most controversial changes to Mario Kart World, sorta. The Switch 2 maker just buffed the appearance rate of three-lap courses after previously nuking a sneaky workaround players had been exploiting to avoid the new game's in-between driving sections. Somehow that's not even…

Overwatch 2 loves a collaboration. Grounded is an excellent survival game that is absolutely deserving of a sequel - it's just that I, and many others, didn't expect it to get one so soon. Bogged down already this year with Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, I was shocked when Obsidian announced Grounded 2 a couple of months back, and was even more surprised to see a July 29 early access launch date too. Well, today's the day, and despite Grounded 2's inclusion in Game Pass, it's performing very well on Steam - so well, in fact, that it's already blasted past its predecessor's all-time player peak on Valve's platform.

Ironmouse Immune Deficiency Foundation Charity Campaign Passed $1.3 Million

The Immune Deficiency Foundation charity campaign started by independent Vtuber Ironmouse hit a new milestone. As of July 29, 2025, it passed $1.3 million in contributions. The endeavor is still live on Tiltify. This milestone comes about six days after hitting the $1 million mark and just over a week after it launched on July 21, 2025.

This milestone means Ironmouse is close to raising three times the amount of money VShojo took from her Immune Deficiency Foundation subathon in 2024 and did not donate, as the amount meant to go to charity at that time was $515,000. CEO Justin "Gunrun" Ignacio admitted using money designated for charity in a statement admitting wrongdoings when shutting down the company. The current highest donation is from an anonymous individual who contributed $23,000. (Editor's Note: This article was updated to include a link to Ignacio's statement admitting misuse of the funds.)

In addition to the Ironmouse Immune Deficiency Foundation charity campaign passing a new milestone, the Vtuber released released a music video for her song "Music Box of Fate" with StarlightDaryl. The animation for it was created by Studio Adventure Noises. The live performance of the song took place back at Anime Expo 2025 in the beginning of July 2025.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArOS-e2d-cM

That song is already available on various streaming services.

Ironmouse has been streaming as usual, and the Vtuber's latest stream aired on July 29, 2025. She also teased a new model. She shared the top of the design's head on social media and suggested we'll all see it for the first time on August 4, 2025.

Lies of P Joins PlayStation Plus August 2025 Games

Sony announced the PlayStation Plus August 2025 games for people who subscribe to any level of the possible plans, and one of them is the Pinocchio-inspired Soulslike Lies of P. The PS4 and PS5 game will lead the charge of three new titles starting on August 5, 2025. While DayZ and My Hero One's Justice 2 are PS4 games, they're also playable on the PS5.

Lies of P is the most recent of the three games, as it came out in September 2023. It follows Pinocchio seeking Mr. Geppetto in Krat. However, the opponents he fights aren't all that different from him, as they're puppets who aren't human. This only covers the base game and not existing expansion. It's normally $59.99.

DayZ is the oldest one. It involves up to 60 people surviving zombies and dealing with permadeath on one or two maps. Since it is from May 2019 though, it doesn't exactly have the audience it once did. It normally costs $54.99.

My Hero One's Justice 2 comes ahead of My Hero Academia: Alls Justice. Which is handy, since a save file from this will unlock the player title "One's Justice 2" in the new entry. It's an arena fighter based on the anime and manga. That came out in March 2020, and it's normally $39.99 on the PlayStation Store.

In the meantime, there are still three games to claim until August 4, 2025. Diablo IV (PS4, PS5), KOF XV (PS4, PS5), and Jusant (PS5) can still be claimed. You keep access to them after that date if you remain subscribed.

Lies of P (PS4, PS5), DayZ (PS4), and My Hero One's Justice 2 (PS4) will join the PlayStation Plus games lineup on August 5, 2025.

The Phoneutria Fera hand cannon, inspired by the Season of the Haunted armor set. It has a unique, galactic glow.

It's raining hand cannons in Destiny 2 thanks to the new Arms Week event, focusing on one of the game's most beloved and iconic weapon archetypes. For the festivities, Bungie is adding the new Phoneutria Fera and a selection of some of the best hand cannons in the game.

The limited-time event is bringing back some popular hand cannons, providing players with a good way to grab some old favorites that were thrown into the Void with The Edge of Fate. Of course, the newcomer Phoneutria Fera is the star of the show, but this star-studded ensemble can be impressive.

Since there are several hand cannon-related objectives in the event, you can use the new and deadly Graviton Spike Exotic, though a well-rolled Better Devils from Lord Shaxx is also an excellent choice if you want a free Exotic slot—and that's not counting the ones on the list.

Here are the best hand cannons to go for during Destiny 2's Arms Week event (and the ones you should avoid).

Take your pick. Screenshot by Destructoid

We split the nine hand cannons on tap into two groups: the ones you should go for and the ones you should probably save for last, if you grab them at all. Warden's Law can be good enough to make the cut if you don't have a better option, so it gets an honorable mention depending on your preferences and needs, but here are our reasons for each choice.

Phonetria Fera

Of course, the event headliner gets top billing in our list. Phoneutria Fera is the first of the Spread Shot archetype, which fires multiple pellets in a tight spread like a shotgun. This makes it quite unique, belonging to one category while feeling closer to another (Vex Mythoclast, for instance, is closer to an auto rifle than a fusion rifle).

While the jury is still out on this new hand cannon, it's worth grabbing some copies of it if you like how it behaves. It's also likely one of the only opportunities you'll have to grab a Holofoil version of it, so put those Engrams to good use.

Exalted Truth

One of our favorites. Screenshot by Destructoid

Alternative: Ancient Gospel (Garden of Salvation)

This Trials of Osiris hand cannon is fresh off the presses, having received a powerful loot pool with its reissue in Heresy. It has access to Void keywords through Withering Gaze and Destabilizing Rounds on column three, plus Repulsor Brace and Demoralize on the fourth. And if you're looking for PvP rolls, take your pick: its Trials roots bring plenty of Crucible-friendly options to the table.

Luna's Howl

A classic never goes out of style. Screenshot by Destructoid

Alternatives: Zaouli's Bane (King's Fall), Agape (Kepler)

Luna's Howl is one of the game's most storied (and historic) hand cannons. It was hand-picked for a reissue in Into the Light due to it being so memorable, and it's a powerhouse for Solar builds. It can roll Heal Clip with Incandescent if you're looking for that extra synergy, but you can also rely on Magnificent Howl, Kill Clip, and Desperate Measures for extra damage.

Its recoil is one of its defining features, making it closer to a 180rpm than a regular 140. This hand cannon was tied to the Crucible upon release, and Bungie kept that influence with a few PvP-oriented perks.

If you're strapped on event Engrams and like burst-fire hand cannons, Kepler's Agape can also roll a series of good perks, including the new Burning Ambition perk. Other than that, Zaouli's Bane (King's Fall) is also a top-tier pick.

The Palindrome

The Palindrome in Destiny 2, as seen in Collections.
Not quite the same level of glory, but it's still good enough. Screenshot by Destructoid

Alternative: Nation of Beasts (Last Wish), Waking Vigil (Dreaming City)

The once-Void monster returned to the game in Arc flavor during Heresy, making it perfect for lightning-aligned builds. Try to score a roll with Explosive Payload paired with either Master of Arms for damage or Rolling Storm for extra Bolt Charge, though you can find other great combinations in the two Awoken-related hand cannons from Forsaken.

Destiny 2's new Arms Week uses the new Event Hub, which can be convoluted for new and veteran players alike. You'll receive an overview from Ada-1, who will also give you a short quest and a basic roll of Phoneutria Fera.

After completing her objectives, you can use Combat Telemetry (awarded by completing activities with a hand cannon during the event) to grab and focus new Engrams, which can contain either Phoneutria Fera or the Ribbontail trace rifle.

The rewards will go to your inventory, like a regular Exotic Engram, and you can either open it with Ada-1 or decode it into a specific drop, though that consumes more Combat Telemetry. You can also open them for free with the Tower's Master Rahool, though that may not be intended.

This one's also a potential option. Screenshot by Destructoid

The rest of the hand cannons on Ada-1's menu are mostly good (not you, Kept Confidence), but they didn't make the cut on our list for a myriad of reasons.

  • Warden's Law: The best among the options we didn't mention, but still outclassed by other Kinetics. you stocked on the Kinetic hand cannon department.
  • Kept Confidence: Has an abysmal perk pool for PvE, and you're better off focusing Better Devils from Lord Shaxx.
  • Austringer: A stylish choice that has fallen behind since its reissue in 2022.
  • Sightline Survey: Go for it if you like its archetype, but the Palindrome is still a good choice if you don't.
  • Exuviae: Can be outclassed by Prophecy's Judgment, with a more favorable archetype. If you participated in the Rite of the Nine event, odds are you have a roll of Judgment lying around.

Two Guardians fight off some Vex in the Edge of Fate.

If you're rising through Destiny 2's Guardian Ranks in The Edge of Fate, rank four might throw a wrench in your plans of advancing quickly. You need to use both a faction drop modifier and a faction unit modifier before you can progress to the next step.

With the Portal's true avalanche of modifiers in different difficulties and activity types, it's easy to get lost along the way, especially if you're juggling a plethora of effects to get your reward rank up. Both faction drop modifiers and faction unit modifiers raise the power of your enemies and increase the challenge level of a run, though you cannot choose them if your activity has locked effects. Here's how to use each.

How to use a Faction Drop modifier in Destiny 2's Portal

The Portal activity menu shows the Arach-No Faction Drop Modifier slotted in the second mod socket.
Who doesn't love Spider Mines? Screenshot by Destructoid

Faction drop modifiers and faction unit modifiers can be available in multiple activities, though you can only add them to Expert-level runs and above, so your foes will be at least 200 power. You can apply them after the Bane section alongside other harmful effects like threats, Chill Touch, and Counterfeit. Threat modifiers are also in this part of the menu.

Faction drop modifiers usually involve harmful effects that trigger whenever you defeat specific combatants. This usually applies to a specific type of enemy and will follow the main faction you're fighting in a given activity.

  • Fallen: Arach-No! (+10): Causes enemies to drop Spider Mines on death.
  • Taken: Epitaph (+10): Taken enemies drop Blight geysers when defeated.
  • Vex: Shocker (+10): Goblins spawn Arc pools upon death.
  • Hive: Fire Pit (+10): Acolytes spawn fire pools on the ground when killed.
  • Scorn: Festering Rupture (+10): Scorn Stalkers spawn mini-Screebs on death.
  • Cabal: Pestilence (+10): Psions spawn Void grenades at their feet when defeated.

How to use a Faction Unit modifier in Destiny 2's Portal

Likewise, faction unit modifiers alter the behavior of specific enemies, which can change how you respond to their actions. Despite having a similar level of danger, these might seem more noticeable during a run.

  • Fallen: Hot Knife (+10): Shanks now have Solar shields.
  • Taken: Denial (+10): Taken Vandals use their shields "significantly more often."
  • Vex: Air Superiority (+10): Flying units deal more damage.
  • Hive: Martyr (+10): Exploding Hive units have more health.
  • Scorn: Raider Shield (+10): Scorn Raiders have Void shields.
  • Cabal: Scorched Earth (+10): Enemies throw grenades more often.

There's no score requirement to advance from Guardian Rank four. You'll complete the objective regardless of reward tier as long as you apply the required modifiers.

PEAK player appearing as giant food

Co-op survival title PEAK added one of the funniest features we've ever seen as part of one of its July updates. It turns out that cannibalism is a real thing now, and it is just as strange as you'd imagine.

There had been plenty of requests from the community to add cannibalism in some way, shape, or form. However, not many expected Aggro Crab and Landfall to introduce it, let alone just a month after the game's release. Now, you can "eat" one of your buddies during your playthroughs.

Let's find out how this feature actually works.

How to eat people in PEAK

For starters, this mechanic is only available when you're playing in a group. However, certain rules apply before you can cook and eat your friend.

  • You or your teammate will have to be really hungry. Your hunger bar should be above the 0.6 threshold for you or your friends to see this option. If you're not very hungry, you won't find the option to eat others.
  • Next, the person you want to eat has to be unconscious. This part is mandatory, just like the previous requirement. If your buddy isn't unconscious, you won't be able to partake in cannibalism, even if your hunger threshold is above 0.6.

https://twitter.com/AggroCrabGames/status/1950287361805557936

If both requirements are satisfied, your passed-out friend will appear as a giant chicken. You can directly consume them to take your first step in PEAK's cannibalism.

There are some benefits of trying PEAK's cannibalism feature. Your friend-turned-chicken counts as food, and they'll satisfy your hunger after you consume them. However, you'll end up receiving a curse, similar to when you're revived after death.

At the time of writing, the exact effect this curse has on your stamina bar is unknown. Nonetheless, consuming your friends through this mechanic will inflict a curse that permanently decreases your maximum stamina unless you use one of PEAK's items to remove it. Additionally, you'll have one less teammate on your trek, which will make your trip to the top a lot harder.

Hence, cannibalism should be treated as a last resort. Thankfully, there are plenty of food items in PEAK that can satisfy your hunger. Most other options are not only better to use, but your party will be at full strength and, in some cases, receive extra energy to make your climb easier.
