Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, September 16, 2025 6:03 PM ![]() From an outside perspective, I think it was probably fairly obvious that MindsEye was never going to do very well. There was barely any game to show off, so they mostly didn't. What they did show didn't look very good either, and when it came out, it was a glitchy mess. This all put 300 staff members at risk of being laid off, the full extent of which still being not particularly clear. And in a recent interview, the game's lead actor Alex Hernandez has shared his own experience of being the face of the game (spoiler alert: it's not great). |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, September 16, 2025 4:36 PM ![]() There are a bevy of games available in the world that let you play as what can only be described as "a little guy." However, you can throw all of them out of the window, because I have found the game that has the perfect iteration of such a creature. It is called Letters to Arralla, and in it you quite simply play as a turnip, who has the juiciest derriere I've ever seen in perhaps any game ever. Yes, even more so than one of those anime gacha games, this turnip's rump has got some serious jiggle physics. |

You probably saw several games delay themselves out of its window to be in with a fighting chance in this current media hellscape we have. But there was one notable release that stuck with its date, and that's Hell Is Us, which came out, oh dear, September 4th. Build-a-Bear announced two new stuffed animals in its Sanrio collection of characters, with one being a Pekkle plush and the other Usahana. Pekkle is an online exclusive available alone for $38 or in a $52.50 gift set. Meanwhile, Usahana won't show up until September 25, 2025. She'll be $38 when she does.
In the case of Pekkle, it is a plush of the white duck. His left foot has his name on the bottom. The standard version just gives you the character. If you buy the bundle, you get an outfit that includes a blue shirt with his initial on it in white and a pair of shorts that feature him in a bunch of different positions on them.
This is how he looks:

In the case of Usahana, only a listing for the plush alone is available in the Sanrio section at Build-a-Bear. There's no information about a possible bundle that includes an outfit for her. Sega announced both paid and free Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 DLC that also acts as a tie-in to the Infinity Castle movie, and Muzan Kibutsuji will be a part of it. The big bad of the series will be added this week on September 18, 2025. Aniplex also confirmed via the Japanese PlayStation Blog that seven characters from the film will be added to the game. In the case of all of these new additions, they will be available to use in VS Mode.
Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist in Demon Slayer and, since his release is coming up so quickly, there's a trailer highlighting his gameplay in The Hinokami Chronicles 2. It doesn't show a full match. Rather, there are clips of footage showing him in his three-piece suit and hat, and we get to see three of his attacks. In one, he's used his claws to attack Tanjiro Kamado and leave red scratch marks embedded in the ground around him. In the other, he's used his Biokinesis to transform his arm into a mass of muscle and flesh, capturing Tanjiro inside. The last move used seems to be his Black Blood Brambles attack.
Here's how that looks:
The end of the video also showed the upcoming paid DLC characters based on Infinity Castle versions of characters. Seven are confirmed, though only images of Akaza, Doma, and Kaigaku appeared in the teaser image. The other four are alts of Tanjiro, Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, and Zenitsu Agatsuma with different appearances and movesets.
Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Muzan Kibutsuji will be added as free DLC on September 18, 2025.

According to two videos that leaked on the Falcom subreddit, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter includes a teaser trailer for the sequel, which could be known as 2nd Chapter and was known as SC for the original release. Both are uploaded to the social networking site.
Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter in the videos below and references to the SC story segments in a possible 2nd Chapter.
One of the two included a brief, post credits scene ahead of the teaser. That is the Japanese version of the clip. It was uploaded to YouTube, but ended up being pulled. The one with the most upvotes on the subreddit is still available on-site and includes English text and voice acting. It hints at the plot of the game with the subtitles. Dialogue from Stephanie Sheh, as Estelle, also references Joshua, but hers are the only voiced lines that come up in the new footage. It closes out with a view of the party going in to the Trails in the Sky sequel. At the end, the title shot doesn't include a subtitle, and only does mention "to be continued."
Here is that full trailer. Be forewarned that it includes references to a number of major fights and story beats found in that Trails in the Sky sequel.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, and PC on September 19, 2025, and DLC will start to appear for it that same day. There's no word yet on when Trails in the Sky SC could appear as a 2nd Chapter release, but that entry is on the PSP and PC worldwide and PS3, Vita, and mobile devices in Japan.

Bandai Namco shared a new trailer for the Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Future Saga Chapter 3 DLC, and it seems to suggest there could be dating sim elements involving some romance with Cheelai and Broly. However, the trailer also suggests that something is wrong in between footage of visual novel segments that see us selecting dialogue options to respond to both characters. The announcement also noted this add-on is "coming soon."
The video begins with Cheelai and Broly arriving in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and working as Time Patrollers alongside our avatar to protect Conton City. The video footage then shows visual novel segments, with us selecting dialogue options to respond to them and perhaps even build up a relationship. We see our character in Kame House with the two of them and taking a mission from Supreme Kai of Time. However, at some points static appears and shows a very different looking vision of Conton City.
Here's that trailer:
Both the first and second Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Future Saga chapters are out now, in case someone wants to prepare for Chapter 3. That storyline started in May 2024, and it added new missions and the characters Android 18 (DB Super), Goku Black (Super Saiyan Rose, Ultra Supervillain), Vegeta (Super Saiyan God, Ultra Supervillain), and Videl (DB Super). Chapter 2 debuted in November 2024. That added a storyline, of course, as well as Belmod, Jiren (Full Power, Ultra Supervillain), and Goku (Mini). In between this line continuing, Dragon Ball Daima DLC debuted in May 2025.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Future Saga Chapter 3 DLC is "coming soon."

Idea Factory International announced a new worldwide Switch otome game release ahead of TGS 2025: Homura: The Crimson Warriors. It will launch in 2026, though there is no exact release window for it. The company also confirmed it will be sold both digitally and physically. The official website is also live.
Since Homura: The Crimson Warriors originally appeared under the name Kurenai no Homura Sanada Ninpou Chou on the Vita in 2018 and the Switch version launched in Japan in 2024, we already know what to expect. The artist behind it is Shiki Sakigumi, who also worked on Hakuoki games. It is also a period piece, this time set in the Sengoku. Our avatar is a ninja who ends up getting involved with people like Nobushige Sanada and Sasuke Sarutobi, who fight for the Sanada Jyuuyushi under Yukimura Sanada.
The full list of romance options and their voice actors are as follows:
Here's the first English trailer for this Switch otome game:
In the meantime, Idea Factory International has another Switch otome game coming out ahead of Homura: The Crimson Warriors. Temirana: The Lucky Princess and the Tragic Knights will appear worldwide. That was supposed to launch in 2025, but got pushed to 2026. Ahead of that, the company even set up a Makeship campaign for a plush of that title's mascot character.

Pocketpair shared a general release date window for the Palworld 1.0 update. It will leave early access on consoles and PCs in 2026. The company also shared a video offering an update on the game's progress. A sale is taking place too, though that is limited to the PC version of the game.
First, here's the video going over the 1.0 release of Palworld and what people can expect in the rest of 2025 and 2026. The announcement noted progress will be a bit "different." This will involve "cleanup" to fix bugs and issues during this year. The Winter 2025 patch will be smaller than the Feybreak one. The 1.0 update will also include a "massive amount of content."
This came after a few other additions and hiccups while in early access. For example, a major milestone was the release of the Mac version of the game back in March 2025. Crossplay also appeared. However, bugs affected the build too. In July 2025, major CE-100022-5 and CE-100096-6 errors in the PS5 version meant that people needed to delete saves and start from scratch.
As for the sale, it isn't a major discount. Palworld currently costs $22.49 on Steam, as it is 25% off until September 22, 2025. The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are still $29.99 on the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.
Palworld is in early access on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the release date for the 1.0 version will fall in 2026.

There are both Blue Protocol: Star Resonance release date and Crunchyroll tie-in announcements today. First, the global version of the game, which is based upon the Bandai Namco release that only appeared on consoles and PCs in Japan, will show up worldwide due to A Plus Japan on October 9, 2025. This comes after we already had a 2025 window confirmed in May 2025. Next, if someone pays for a Crunchyroll subscription, they'll get bonus cosmetics after launch.
First, now that there is a release date for Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, the PC and mobile product pages are live everywhere. If you go to Steam or Epic Games Store, that only means being able to wishlist the game. Both the Apple App Store and Google Play options involve pre-ordering and pre-registering. All the pages note they are free and that there will be loot boxes and in-app purchases. However, none of them mention the prices for currency and such yet.
Here's the latest trailer for the game:
As for the Crunchyroll Blue Protocol: Star Resonance bonuses, so far only two types of rewards are confirmed. The announcement noted that people who subscribe to Sony's service will get avatar frames and mount skins. This will involve account linking by logging in, and rewards will be doled out even if someone is at a lower tier like the $7.99 Fan plan.
Blue Protocol: Star Resonance will come to PC and mobile devices, and the global release date is October 9, 2025.

Skate players, myself included, have encountered the 786808283 error code, which can be considered the screen of death in terms of gameplay.
It's one of the two significant errors players have encountered, separate from the login queue message that almost everyone receives. The error prevents you from joining a server, essential if you want to play the game. Whether playing alone or with friends, staying connected to the server is mandatory.
This guide will help you prevent the error.
Skate 786808283 error code possible solutions
So what happens when you get this error code? In simple terms, the game can't find a server to connect to your profile.
The easiest fix for this is to go for a clean restart. Immediately force close the game and restart the whole process. If you manage to join the login queue, congratulations. If not, repeat the process.
As of this writing, the problems appear due to the number of players attempting to join the servers simultaneously. Skate's early access is available on both PC and consoles, and it's a free-to-play title. This has created massive interest, and I have seen queues with over 40,000 players looking to play.
![]()
Hence, if someone gets the 786808283 error code, there's not much we can do. The client cannot process the joining request and solve the problem. However, there are a few tips to remember if you continue to get the error code.
For now, the best solution is to be patient and wait a few minutes if you're getting the 786808283 error repeatedly.

Skate is now available for early access on PC and console, and it will be crucial to understand the basic controls.
While the new skating simulator is available on PC, you can't play with a Keyboard and Mouse. This is clearly mentioned on the game's official Steam store page, and the only way to enjoy the content is by using a controller.
This guide will help you better understand the basic and advanced concepts, and then select your preferred method.

The controls for Skate vary slightly based on whether you pick Streamlined or Classic.

Which Skate controls should you use?
The major difference in controls is related to how the LS works. The Streamlined mode is perfect for beginners since it allows you to accelerate and apply brakes easily. It will be suitable until you master the basics in Skate.
Ultimately, the Classic controls will suit those looking to master the advanced concepts. It's the perfect choice for those who have played previous entries in the franchise.

It's been a long time coming, but it appears the wait will be even longer than anticipated.
Skating fans around the world are stoked to be back in the world of Skate for the first time in many years. They are so excited, in fact, that the game is breaking underneath the weight of gamers trying to connect, and it's causing error codes galore.
Here's what we know so far about issues with Skate, including the error code 3967269002.
How to fix Skate error code 3967269002
![]()
The Skate error code 3967269002 is happening a lot on the day of the game's free-to-play launch on Sept. 16, 2025. It's most likely due to the game's servers being slammed by players attempting to log in all at once and/or download the game since there was no pre-load.
So far, we've been able to have success in getting into the game by just selecting "OK" and entering a new queue. As the game is being overloaded, players are being placed into a queue, and sometimes those queues are erroring out. Your best bet for now is to try re-queuing and getting into the game.
Odds are, though, that these errors, server issues, and queues will all need to be fixed by EA, and there's not much you can do as a player besides waiting it out. In this always-online world of online gaming, these things tend to happen around big launches or updates, so it comes as no surprise that there are problems with playing the game.
Stay tuned to official EA communications for more info on the status of the game's servers, especially in its first few days and weeks following launch.

Skate, or "skate.", is now available in early access for PC and console gamers, and some players have reported slight server issues.
As of Sept. 16, the downloads are working on PlayStation, Xbox, and the EA app (for PC). Skate is an entirely online title that requires you to remain connected to the official server to access the different modes.
This guide will help you stay aware of the server situation.
Table of contents
Are Skate servers down?
As of writing this guide, the Skate servers are in a pickle. While they're not technically "down," they're also not operating optimally. This has created problems for many who cannot log in (myself included).
If you're in the same boat, there are two possible outcomes. You could end up getting a server error. The best solution in such a case is to retry joining the server. Depending on when you're reading this guide, you can come across a login queue (like the one in the screenshot below).
![]()
This mechanism ensures players can smoothly join the servers, but only after a waiting period. While this can be pretty frustrating, it ensures you can play after waiting for a specific period.
To wrap up, wait for your turn, and don't quit the process, as that will move you to a new position in the login queue.
How to check the Skate server status?
One of the easiest ways to check Skate's server status is to use the third-party site Downdetector. Simply type in the game's name and check whether there's a spike in red dots. If yes, it means that the servers aren't operational.
Alternatively, you can follow the game's official X account for any impending server updates and maintenance. Having this information beforehand will allow you to prepare better and avoid any potential headaches.

The calendar is about to officially turn to fall, which means only one thing: a new PlayStation State of Play is likely on the way, of course!
Every September since 2019, Sony has hosted either a large-scale PlayStation Showcase or State of Play to show off what's coming to the PS5 and other Sony platforms. This month should be no different, with leakers suggesting one could be dropping during the week of Sept. 22 ahead of the company's next big exclusive, Ghost of Yōtei, coming just around the corner on Oct. 2.
With that in mind, and plenty of games in the works, here's our pick for the games we most want to see show up during a potential September 2025 State of Play PS5 presentation.

It's been almost two years since the awful, comprehensive hack of developer Insomniac Games, the team behind Marvel's Spider-Man and its sequels, and the upcoming Wolverine game in the Marvel universe. Since then, the studio has been heads down and working hard, and it's high time for Wolverine to show up at this State of Play and remind everyone why Insomniac is one of the best dev teams in the world.
SAROS
![]()
The next title from Returnal dev Housemarque was revealed in February, and it looks and sounds incredibly promising. I really hope to get a more fleshed-out look at this game and its gameplay soon.
"A key gameplay distinction between SAROS and Returnal is permanent resources and progression making every death valuable," Housemarque explains on its website. "After every death you will face a changed world, but in SAROS you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit parts to 'come back stronger' to overcome the challenges you face on Carcosa."
Fairgame$
Remember this game? It's hard to fault you if you don't. Fairgame$ was revealed over two years ago, and the dev team at Haven Studios hasn't made an appearance since. It's a PvPvE game title that was described as a "competitive modern heist game where you team up to break into exotic locations and steal the cargo."
What's going on with this game? Is it still happening?

Since debuting at last year's The Game Awards, Naughty Dog's new sci-fi IP hasn't been heard from since. If not again at TGA this year, then this State of Play is primetime for a new trailer showcasing more of what the team has been working on.
Neil Druckmann has teased that this title will continue Naughty Dog's gameplay evolution, stemming from Uncharted to The Last of Us, to include something new and exciting. Let's see some of it in action.
Marathon
![]()
If there's one Sony project that truly NEEDS a good showing, it's Marathon. The game was originally delayed, which coincidentally had a release date around the same time as this assumed State of Play. Bungie has been working behind the scenes to implement feedback while also heavily playtesting it.
A new trailer and message from Sony or Bungie saying "we were listening, and here's how Marathon is better now" would go a long way towards restoring some excitement for the extraction shooter.
Santa Monica Studio's latest
![]()
The studio behind God of War is actively working on something new. Is it still too soon to be shown off? Maybe. But I can't help but wonder what direction Santa Monica Studio will go in the wake of God of War: Ragnarök's ending. Will it be something entirely new, a new Kratos title, or will the studio wander into spin-off territory with Atreus/Loki?
Grand Theft Auto 6
![]()
Yeah, this one's a long shot, but I'd be remiss if I didn't include it on this list. Apparently, GTA 6 is a little over eight months away. At some point, Rockstar Games is going to have to start showing it off a little bit more. The dev is likely to do that on their own time and in their own way, but I think a GTA 6 appearance at this State of Play would truly bring some much-needed enthusiasm and excitement into the industry.
What about you, dear readers? Which games are you hoping to see make an appearance during this potential State of Play? Let us know in the comments.

The first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's Zombies offering just dropped, and it's got gamers fiending for more.
Activision today revealed the cinematic for Ashes of the Damned, the first map coming to BO7's co-op mode, showcasing the storyline that picks up right where the final Black Ops 6 Zombies map finished off at the top of Janus Towers.
![]()
BO6's Zombies crew of Weaver, Carver, Maya, and Grey will join forces with the old WWII-era squad of Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai in Ashes of the Damned, the first of several eventual additional maps confirmed for BO7.
"After a tumultuous battle high atop of Janus Towers, celebrations are abruptly short-lived as Grigori Weaver, Dr. Elizabeth Grey, Major Mackenzie 'Mac' Carver, and Maya Aguinaldo are thrust into the Dark Aether dimension," Activision explained. "The crew don't even have the time to pick themselves up from the ground before they're startled by the arrival of a welcoming committee."
The welcoming committee in question seems to include a new character, a mysterious cowboy with a southern accent that uses a pair of totem skulls within cages to "expunge life force from the assembled crew, sucking essence into its maw while sharing its meal with its master, seemingly granting the mysterious figure more than a taste of their souls." Whoa.
Unfortunately, this is all that Treyarch had to show off for Zombies today, but the full reveal of BO7's Zombies mode is coming sometime next week via a massive blog post that will detail "extensive gameplay, systems, enemies, and feature content" coming to the game.
For all of BO6's faults, its Zombies maps and offerings added as free post-launch content were a highlight for me. I'm not the most dedicated Zombies player anymore, and I have zero clue what's actually going on with the story and how the two crews are coming together, but Treyarch's dedication to the mode brings hope for those who can't get enough.
Black Ops 7 launches on Nov. 14.
