Yesterday, a group of moneyfolk including private equity firm Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and Donald Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners unveiled plans to acquire Electronic Arts for an estimated $55 billion.

The buyers are committing $36 billion of their own equity (briefly and inexpertly, "equity" is the value of your assets after you deduct anything you owe), including the value of the PIF's existing investments in EA. They're making up the rest of the total thanks to a $20 billion loan from JPMorgan Chase Bank. How will they manage that massive debt? According to the Financial Times, who cite unnamed insiders, they're gambling on the deployment of generative AI tools as a gigantic cost-saving measure.

Utawarerumono Zan 2 Will Appear in English on PC

Utawarerumono Zan 2, a Musou style action game based on Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth will finally appear in English outside of Japan. Shiravune and DMM Games announced they will release the PC version of the Aquaplus title on Steam. There's no release window for it yet, but other entries in the series are now on sale.

Utawarerumono Zan 2 first debuted in Japan back in July 2021. It showed up on only the PS4 and PS5 at the time. Like its predecessor, it retells the story of the original visual novel with tactical battles, only this time it's a far more active hack-and-slash game. Haku, working alongside allies from the original game, fights  to restore Princess Anju as rightful ruler of the Yamato Empire.

This isn't a surprising development. Shiravune and DMM already worked on the English PC release of the original Utawarerumono Zan. NIS America released the PS4 version of that game outside Japan in 2019. The PC version will show up on Steam on October 22, 2025.

As for the sale, the original Utawarerumono games are reduced at the moment. A bundle that includes Prelude to the Fallen, Mask of Deception, and Mask of Truth is $88.17 at the moment. They are also available on sale separately until October 6, 2025. Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen is $41.99. Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth are $27.99 each.

Utawarerumono Zan 2 will appear on the PC in English outside Japan, though there is no release date yet.

Genshin Impact Kaeya Nendoroid Finally Arrives in 2026

At Smile Fest 2022, Good Smile Company and HoYoVerse announced Nendoroids of Genshin Impact characters Kaeya and Xiao. Then, they seemed to just disappear. Figures of other Genshin Impact characters showed up! We saw Zhongli and Raiden Shogun ones. But aside from a June 2025 confirmation that they were still in the works, no update appeared. Now we know that, at the very least, the Genshin Impact Kaeya Nendoroid will appear in June 2026 in Japan and Q4 2026 in the US. He'll be ¥7,200/$45.99.

The Genshin Impact Kaeya Nendoroid will come with three face plates and items that reference his moveset in-game. His standard expression shows him with a calm smile. Another shows a wider smile with his visible eye closed. The final one looks a little more fierce and like he's about to attack. He comes with a Cool Steel one-handed sword. As a Cryo type character, his ice effect parts allow someone to recreate his Glacial Waltz Elemental Burst attack.

Here's how that all looks:

Kaeya has been present in Genshin Impact since the game's launch. He's a four-star character we all get for free. He's known as Diluc's adopted brother. While he's a Knight of Favonius for Mondstadt and handles the calvary, he's also known for having "secrets."

The Genshin Impact Kaeya Nendoroid will launch in Japan in June 2026 and the US in Q4 2026. Pre-orders close on November 12, 2025.The game is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices.

Maruchan Pac-Man Instant Ramen Tastes Like Chicken

Bandai Namco and Maruchan announced there will be instant ramen with Pac-Man themed containers. This will appear on the chicken flavored instant lunch cup noodles. It is a limited-time crossover though, and it only applies to the outside appearance of the meal. This means there won't be any ingredients shaped like characters or more tangible merchandise included.

The announcement showed what the crossover will entail. The outside packaging for the Maruchan Instant Lunch chicken ramen cup will feature a black Pac-Man maze with references to the cup noodles and its ingredients appearing alongside characters. Part of it is to call attention to the Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac launch and 45th anniversary of the character.

It isn't uncommon for these kinds of game crossovers to happen. Nissin's Cup Noodles ramen crossed over with Final Fantasy games, with that leading to a Cup Noodle hat in FFXVand a commercial with Sephiroth. In Brazil, there was also a Genshin Impactcrossover with that company in Brazil.

The Pac-Man packaging will be available for Maruchan Instant Lunch chicken ramen cups for a limited time, and Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac is available on the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Stellar Blade Update Adds Costume and Epilogues

Ahead of TGS 2025, Shift Up teased news about Stellar Blade additions, and now there's a new costume for Eve and epilogues looking at what happened after the end. Patches for these are available on the PS5 and PC, and a quality of life adjustment appeared on Windows on September 30, 2025. It is also on sale on Steam for $47.99, 20% off, until October 6, 2025.

The universal updates involve the Stellar Blade costume and epilogues. There are three additional scenes that come up after the end. These focus on the characters we've helped throughout the story, and Shift Up confirmed we see what happens to Eve as a result. The new outfit is called Ocean String and has some swimsuit elements to it. The announcement noted the team went with one color for it so it would be easier to customize.

Here's how that outfit looks:

As for the PC updates, here are the full patch notes from both Steam and social media:

  • When using Photo Mode via Odyssey 3D Hub, screenshots will now be saved in the "Screenshots" folder located in the Stellar Blade executable directory.
  • Fixed an issue during the "Strange Signal" request where players could not interact with the network device in the Scrap Yard after completing the Orbital Elevator story, preventing quest progression.
  • Three additional epilogue clips have been updated after a certain ending.
  • PC users can now start the new quests from today through the Bulletin Board.
  • Various other bug fixes.

Prior to this update, Shift Up added six new BGM tracks to the game for free.

Stellar Blade is available for the PS5 and PC, and the new epilogues and costume patch is live on both platforms now.

Death Stranding 2 BB Pod Snow Globes Arrive in November

Taito and Kojima Productions announced that, ahead of the 2025 holiday season, there will be Death Stranding 2 BB Pod snow globes released in Japan. These will be prizes in Japanese arcades, so we don't know possible prices yet. This also means we don't know if or when they'll appear worldwide. We do know it'll launch in November 2025.

Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for Death Stranding and the BB Pod  in the article below.

As Death Stranding 2 begins, we see Sam Porter Bridges living with his daughter Lou, who formerly was the baby in the BB Pod in the first game. As a result, her former "home" is turned into a Cryptobiote habitat. This is recreated for these two snow globe options. Each one has three variants shown inside of it in the photos. In addition to the Cryptobiote, it looks like they have a Chlorobiote and Chronobyote in there too. While the outsides of the pods are identical, one has darker colored water in it than the other.  Both are relatively small and stand at just over three inches (8cm) tall.

Here's the official photo of them:

Taito worked with Kojima Productions on quite a few different types of merchandise. One of the most recent announcements is a sensor light that looks like the thumbs up Like sign from the game that also plays the sound effect when triggered. There was also a Dollman charm that played voiced lines from the game.

Death Stranding 2 is available for the PS5, and the BB Pod snow globes will show up in Japanese arcades at the beginning of November 2025.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree

It's said that timing is everything, and one can't help but feel for Brownies Inc and Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree in that regard. It's a roguelite action game in the Hades vein, and it's hard to imagine a worse time for something like this to launch than the week before Hades 2 hits. Still, this developer has a way of infusing a certain charm in its games. If there's anything this game has over similar titles, it's how much character it has. Is that good enough to carry it?

The evil Magatsu threatens to envelop the land in darkness, and only Shinju Village's priestess Towa can seal this villain away for good. She's assisted by eight guardians, each of which has their own personality and fighting style. Working in pairs, the guardians will clear the path for Towa to complete her sacred mission and save all of Shinju. The plot of the game isn't anything new or exciting, but the interactions between the colorful cast of characters compensate for that quite well. Depending on who you pair up, you'll get to see different conversations unfold. It adds a little spice to the repeated runs that this genre brings with it.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree - Boss Battle
Screenshot by Siliconera

The pairing concept is the main gimmick in Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree. For each run, you must choose one character to be your Tsurugi and one to be the Kagura. The Tsurugi is the character you primarily control. They'll largely be engaging in melee combat and hopefully attracting most of the enemy's attention. The Kagura supports the Tsurugi with magic and other special abilities. They'll typically hang back and try to stay out of trouble, but you can manually move them or make them stay put if the need arises. If you have someone willing to pick up a controller and join you, they can take over the role of the Kagura.

Another interesting aspect of the action is that your Tsurugi character carries two weapons. You attack using one of them at a time, but after a few swings it will temporarily "break". When that happens, its power significantly drops. You can swap over to your other weapon at any time, and ideally what you should be doing is juggling between to the two in order to avoid any breakages. Mastering this is essential to ensure the damage keeps on flowing. Otherwise, combat mostly unfolds in the expected fashion. Combat rolls, getting out of the way of big red markers on the floor, and using helpful abilities that either require a meter to be charged up or a cooldown to pass.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree - Teaming Up
Screenshot by Siliconera

The structure of each run is also rather familiar if you've played other games of this sort. You're working room by room, clearing out the enemies within or engaging in some kind of event. After that, you'll get some kind of reward and move on to the next room by choosing an exit. Sometimes there's only one, but sometimes you'll have to pick your poison. The door will always give you a heads-up as to what kind of room is next, so you aren't fully in the dark. Taking a big risk usually means a big reward, and you're not going to get far if you don't push the envelope wherever and whenever you can.

Between runs, you'll spend time in Shinju Village. This is the usual safe harbor, and like those in other games you're able to upgrade its facilities with the resources you collect. Some of these provide temporary bonuses, while others are more permanent. Interestingly, you'll also see time pass in the village over the course of the game. It's just the right size to become acquainted with everyone who lives there, so seeing all of them change as you make progress is almost as satisfying as watching the numbers go up.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree - Blacksmithing
Screenshot by Siliconera

The most heart-wrenching aspect of Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree comes when you successfully complete a run. You'll have to sacrifice whichever character you designated as your Kagura, and seeing your eight dear friends slowly disappear one by one actually hits hard. The theme of sacrifice is strongly woven into the narrative of this game, and it's probably the most powerful thing about it. If more of the game's beats hits as hard as this one, it would be easier to recommend. Ultimately, this is just another decent roguelite action game, albeit one with a couple of interesting ideas and a lot of personality.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Marvel Rivals Blade Spider-Man Halloween

As a live-service title, Marvel Rivals will join other games like it with seasonal events year-round that players can look forward to, like Halloween.

Every game-as-a-service hops on the season, throwing in scares and spooky costumes for characters to wear and players to unlock or buy. Marvel Rivals is no different, and NetEase Games has confirmed a Halloween event will come during season 4.5

In a Dev Visions video, NetEase teased some of the costumes and skins that will be coming to the game, and there are some original ideas along with some adaptations from comics and other mediums that players can soon suit up with.

Here's a taste of what to expect when Marvel Rivals' first-ever Halloween-themed event takes place.

A character surrounded by skeletons in Megabonk.

Like any roguelike game, Megabonk has a wide variety of items and power-ups to pick up while playing. Some of them are not very useful, though.

That's where a Toggler comes in. This gives you the ability to enable or disable certain items, weapons, or tomes while playing so that you can fully customize your experience for the most fun, or just the most success when trying to mow down hordes of silly little enemies.

Here's how to toggle items on and off in Megabonk using the Toggler upgrade.

How to use Megabonk Toggler

Megabonk Toggler
Screenshot by Drstructoid

To unlock the ability to toggle items on and off in Megabonk, you must first purchase 40 unlocks. This will give you the ability to then purchase Toggler for Four Silver from the item shop.

Once you purchase Toggler, you can then toggle it on and off within the shop, and in the Unlocks menu, toggle items on or off for your next run. This is very valuable to disable items that are not conducive to your build or character.

Toggling on only the items that will help out your build will spell massive success in Megabonk, so this item is one that you should purchase immediately whenever you can so that you can min-max your builds.

Now you can pick and choose only the best tomes or weapons for your character, so get out there and Megabonk your way to a mega victory.

Marvel Rivals Daredevil

Marvel Rivals continues to evolve as a live-service title with its next update for season 4.5 next week, and it's bringing a feature that players have wanted since before launch.

While the main content for the Oct. 10 update will be the new Duelist hero Daredevil, NetEase Games confirmed today that the season 4.5 patch will introduce cross-progression between platforms to "a small group of players" before going live for everyone in season five next month.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Players in season 4.5 will "test and provide feedback" on the feature that allows Marvel Rivals gamers to use their accounts and progression across different platforms, like console and PC. I've been waiting for this one myself, as PC is my main platform, but I would love to play the game to complete challenges and games on my PS5 while in bed.

The main caveat is that ranks and battle stats will remain independently tracked between platforms, so you won't be able to carry over your PC rank to your Xbox, for example. But the ability to level up battle passes and quests will remain, and that's all I was hoping for.

Elsewhere, Daredevil sounds like a pretty fun character, judging by the Dev Vision update put out by NetEase. It's said that he can "pick a priority target" and then close in on them with his agility to beat them up with his billy clubs. More info on the hero will be revealed in the lead-up to the update on Oct. 10.

Team-Up Abilities are changing in season 4.5, too. Ragnarok Rebirth is being removed while Namor is being removed from Gamma Charge, but two new ones are coming: Bestial Hunt (Daredevil and Punisher) and Deep Wrath (Namor and Hela), both aiming to shake up the meta.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIrLxa_TgKU

In the video, NetEase also teased a new mode coming to season 4.5 (to be revealed at a later date), along with a Halloween event that features costumes for Peni Parker, Jeff the Landshark, Namor, Scarlet Witch, Blade, and Spider-Man.

A gunman running around a giant Anubis in Megabonk.

I just can't stop bonking. Megabonk hit the Steam store like a bat out of hell, and I can't stop playing it. Judging by the numbers, many of you are the same.

The action roguelike "Survivors" style game is goofy as all hell, but surprisingly deep and addictive. It's garnered a big audience in just a few weeks since launch, and there are PC mods cropping up everywhere to enhance or change up the experience.

Megabonk is still quite young, but here are some of the best mods we've seen pop up so far.

The best mods for Megabonk

Always Show Boss Arrow

weak legacy 2 trello guide

Weak Legacy 2 has a ton of Breathing techniques and Blood Demon Arts with an extensive map to explore and fight through. Luckily there's a Trello to archive it all and show you where everything is so that you can have an easier time grinding. Here are the Weak Legacy 2 Trello board and Discord server links.

Weak Legacy 2 Trello and Discord Guide

weak legacy 2 trello and discord links
Image via Weak Games Corp

Here are all the community links you need to stay informed and get ahead of the grind in Weak Legacy 2:

I recommend starting with the Trello since it's a Wiki-like collection of all the data in the game like Breathing techniques or BDSs. It can help you locate trainers or check out the moves for different movesets. Our tier list can also help you pick movesets. As for the Trello, it's got info on:

  • Basic game mechanics like Breathing and Evasives
  • All clans
  • All race info
  • All breathing techniques
  • All Blood Demon Arts
  • All Gamepasses
  • All Bosses and enemies
  • All Trainers
  • A game map

After that I recommend the Discord since the Trello can sometimes be outdated on the latest content. The Discord is never outdated since the community is discussing the latest updates like Breathing or BDA reworks. It's also got an up-to-date FAQ for some common questions.

Of course the Discord is also a place to track Updates and Announcements. In the Update Log channel you can see all the latest changes like events or new raids as well as buffs and nerfs. Lastly, it's a place to double check game links or codes.

That's it for my Weak Legacy 2 Trello board and Discord server walkthrough. Check out our updated list of Weak Legacy 2 codes for free goodies like Clan spins and resets.

Fox running around the Forest with an Aura

Fox is a fun character in Megabonk, even after you unlock the others. The Fox has a starting 15% Luck boost, so it gets high-quality upgrades early that scale power fast. The best Fox builds leverage the Luck, deal ranged damage, and defend against enemies that get close quickly.

Here's the optimal Fox build to use in Megabonk, along with other options in case you're not offered the Tomes and Weapons I suggest.

Best Tomes, Weapons, and Items for Fox

Type Best choices Good choices
Weapons Fire Staff (Starter)
Aura
Lightning Staff
Aegis
Sword
Bow
Bananarang
Tomes Luck Tome
Agility Tome
XP Tome
Cursed Tome
Damage Tome
Cooldown Tome
Quantity Tome
Items Clover
Credit Card (Green)
Coward's Cloak
Electric Plug
Ice Cube
Slippery Ring
Gym sauce

The best weapons for Fox are Aura, Bananarang, and Aegis. Aura and Aegis are solid choices because they serve the purpose of not letting monsters get close enough to damage Fox, with Aura dealing heavy damage over a large area as you upgrade it, and Aegis protecting you from damage. Lightning Staff combos nicely with Fire Staff for some projectile bounce that Fox's starter weapon lacks.

Sword is worse than Aura and Aegis, but it can keep enemies away from Fox if you just can't find other alternatives. Bow and Bananarang are decent choices over Lightning Staff for ranged projectile damage.

The Fox about to enter a Boss Portal in the Forest in Megabonk
The Portal to the next stage opens in Tiers 2 and 3. Screenshot by Destructoid.

The best tomes to use with Fox are Luck, XP, Cursed, and Agility Tomes. The first three are usually good Tome choices overall, but Luck is a must on Fox to get to the Luck cap quickly and get rare upgrades as soon as possible. XP Tome is essential for Tier 2 and Tier 3 runs; otherwise, you'll be outscaled by the enemies. Cursed Tome is also a great choice to level up faster since the extra difficulty makes more mobs spawn, so more XP is gained as well. Agility tome on Fox is a good pick for survivability, though you can replace it with Damage or Cooldown. If you want to pick Quantity Tome, replace Aura with another projectile weapon, like a Bow or Revolver.

If you're worried about the difficulty from the Cursed Tome, just prioritize upgrading your Weapons and other Tomes first. Just make sure to give it an upgrade from time to time so that you're not outscaled by the mobs in Tier 2 and 3.

Finally, the best item picks for Fox are Clover and Credit Card (Green) to increase your Luck faster. Once you max it out, you can focus on items that give you movement speed, like Coward's Cloak, or that debuff enemies, like the knockback of Electric Plug or the freezing effect of Ice Cube. Slippery Ring for extra evasion and Gym Sauce for more damage are also fine.

As for Attack Speed, Size, and Movement Speed, you can focus on them in Shrines. Don't waste a Tome Slot on them.

If you'd like to experience with other characters, check out our list of the best builds in Megabonk.

weak legacy 2 tier list and guide

This game has a huge variety of Breathing styles and Demon Blood Arts. The best Breathing in Weak Legacy 2 depends on whether you're going for PVP and PVE. That's why I'll do two separate tier lists and then expand to Blood Arts as well if there's interest. For now, here's my Weak Legacy 2 breathing tier list and guide.

Weak Legacy 2 Breathing Tier List

weak legacy 2 breathing tier list

When it comes to the best Breathing in Weak Legacy 2 it all comes down to PVP vs PVE. For example, Moon V2 deals the most DPS in the game for PVE but it has slow animations that can be interrupted in PVP so Sun's faster moves take the edge there. Let's dive into all Breathing techniques individually and talk about their strengths and weaknesses below.

Let me know if you would like to see BDAs ranked and a guide on how to find all Breathing trainers and get all V2s.

Breathing Style PVP & PVE Ranking Reasons

Moon Breathing
• Moon is the hardest Breathing style to get at V2 but it's damn worth it for PVE since it's the highest PVE DPS style in the game
• The entire rotation including Crimson Lineage Impalement from V2 nukes mobs and deals a lot of damage to bosses
• It's also good for PVP but slightly less so than Sun because Moon has a lot of animations that can be interrupted if you don't time them right
• In return you do get a really good counter move
• Plus if you've unlocked V2 you do have the Tsugikuni clan as well so you're getting a ton of Durability, Speed and Strength
• It's arguably the best style in Weak Legacy 2

Sun Breathing
• Sun is in my opinion the best PVP breathing style in the game
• While it doesn't have as much sustained DPS as Moon the moveset is better since the moves have better and quicker animations
• Both the V1 and the V2 are good for PVP with V1 being A and V2 being the top of S
• The moves are quite spammable and offer good mobility as well
• Overall, if you want to min max, go Sun for PVP and Moon for PVE

Insect Breathing
• Insect is one of the best PVP styles in the game because it's so easy to get and level and the entire movelist is great for comboing right off the bat
• It's also good for PVE bosses due to massive stun and single-target damage potential
• It's not the best for AOE damage though
• You can buff Insect with the Kocho clan

Water Breathing
• Water V1 isn't good for PVP and PVE but once you get the V2 version then it becomes really powerful
• The Water V2 is so good due to some of the best stun lock comboes and Dead Calm is a perfect high damage finisher
• It offers great sustain, damage and lots of decent AOE for PVE
• You also get a ton of mobility with the moves that make you harder to hit, especially Dragon Fury and Waterfall Basin
• Overall it's just a flexible style for both PVE and PVP
• Best combined with the Tomioka clan for the Water buff

Thunder Breathing
• Thunder is another PVP/PVE powerhouse
• Similar to Water you get a lot of mobility and some great damage
• I love it for early PVE grinding but it holds up well in PVP due to the combos and movement
• It also deals really good damage

Flower Breathing
• Flower is a really great defensive PVP Breathing option due to Vermillion Eye being essentially an auto dodge button that lasts for a while
• You won't be getting hit with it on but it does cost a lot of Breath
• The DPS and combo potential aren't as OP as the other A-Tiers and S-Tiers but they're still at a pretty competitive level

Flame Breathing
• Flame is like Magma Fruit in Blox Fruits, amazing for PVE but sucks for PVP
• The moves have a lot of AOE and decent damage that you'll love as a beginner PVE grinder
• That said their long startups and animations make it harder to hit in PVP
• Best Combined with the Rengoku clan for the Flame buff

Sound Breathing
• Sound is a pretty reliable PVP and PVE option but it does pop off more later on whereas Flame is good right of the bat
• The String Performance blender is really strong for both
• Best combined with the Uzui clan which is a really strong option for both the Sound buff and some good Durability and damage reduction

Wind Breathing
• I might have lowballed Wind a bit since while it does have great combo potential, I felt the DPS was slightly off
• It's definitely a really viable PVP option due to how fast it is and how easy the moves are to both spam and combo into each other
• It's definitely a plausible argument for A-Tier PVP
• Best combined with the Shinazugawa clan for the Wind buff

Serpent Breathing
• Really strong PVP option due to the combo and sustained DPS potential
• Slithering Serpent is a great combo finisher similar to the Water breathing ultimate
• If you know how to combo you can land a ton of damage in PVP

Love Breathing
• I'm not a fan of Love early since it sucks for both PVP and PVE
• That said once you get the 85+ mastery it gets much better with the end-game moves for PVP and decent for PVE too so I put it lower since it needs grinding to be good
• You can buff Love with the Kanroji clan

Mist Breathing
• Best Combined with the Tokito clan for the Mist buff
• Mist has mid damage and stun potential so I'm not the biggest fan of it
• It does have some massive range AOE damage but the DPS just doesn't cut it

That's it for my Weak Legacy 2 tier list and guide. If there's interest in the game I'll add a Demon Blood Art tier list as well. For now, check out our Weak Legacy 2 codes for free goodies like Spins or Rerolls.

James being shot in the back by an alien

Non-fans of Silent Hill might find it surprising that aliens and UFOs are just as prevalent in the region as plain ol'earthly psychological dread. Fans, however, know they are always waiting to steal the show right at the end, so let's rank the best UFO endings in the series.

Silent Hill: Homecoming

https://youtu.be/lwW3GV9kE84

The only thing blander and dumber than Silent Hill: Homecoming's UFO ending is that you can accidentally stumble into it, as this is the only ending of this kind that players can get in the first playthrough. The only funny thing here is how it might incidentally lead some players to believe aliens are the canon explanation to all of the town's misfortunes, then provides no further explanation.

Silent Hill: Origins

https://youtu.be/AtflcAVAbaE

It really sucks when your ending features a cute hand-drawn art style, but then goes on to feature barely any animation. This one is funny only because of a fan-favorite cameo and a pretty good joke, considering it's made by a creature from another planet. Sadly, it's not scary at all. At this point, it really feels like they were doing these out of obligation.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIovnejnjLU

Shattered Memories' UFO ending features very cheap animation that doesn't allow for the creation of the uneasy, funny-but-spooky atmosphere seen in the best endings of this kind in the series. Still, it features two truly hilarious twists that also function as great callbacks to the series' past.

Silent Hill 3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjR5Iiq8nlk

Though the UFO ending from Silent Hill 3 doesn't feature much in the way of animation, a pretty disappointing twist from arguably the most visually impressive game on the PS2, it's still pretty funny, and features an alternate ending that's sure to please fans of Harry from the original game.

Silent Hill f

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSuULrF59Qg

Silent Hill f is a love letter to most things Silent Hill, and thus it naturally doesn't leave the UFO ending tradition. The UFO ending here tells a whole story, and, even though it lacks the eerie and janky look and feel of the original UFO endings, it's nice to see real effort being put into these fan-favorite endings once again.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

https://youtu.be/-HeAlcKtTqQ

The UFO ending from the Silent Hill 2 remake is a nice touch, as instead of just remaking the UFO ending present in that game, it plays as its sequel of sorts. It shows the new James Sunderland meeting not Harry from the first game, but the old James Sunderland model, who is actually working with the aliens to, perhaps, bring back some semblance of normalcy to Silent Hill.

Silent Hill 2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uda8FBtblY

Though Silent Hill 2's most famous joke ending isn't the one with the aliens, it still does feature a funny UFO ending. This one features a fun nod to Space Invaders, the outdated creepiness of silent movies of the B&W era, as well as one of the eeriest betrayals in gaming. Trust no one, even the hero.

Silent Hill

https://youtu.be/e7peS9zyrno

The original UFO ending gets extra points for getting the whole UFO ending thing rolling, naturally, but it stood on its own then and remains powerful to this day. It nails being funny and eerily terrifying at the same time, and does so with a tone completely dissimilar to that of the game. This truly is a cherry on top of Silent Hill's cake, and a testament to the ability of one of the most talented and underrated development teams in history.

super mario galaxy box art

Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Nintendo Switch feels like a no-brainer when it comes to celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario series, as well as preparing moviegoers looking forward to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie next year, a chance to play the games that inspired the titles. It ticks a lot of boxes, but do these nearly 20-year-old Nintendo Wii games hold up to the test of time?

Both games are masterpieces in their own right from a golden era of Nintendo games, so a port was going to come out eventually. But do the changes made to the games enhance or detract from the experience, and how does everything ultimately hold up? And is the magic still there for modern-day gamers who may have never touched them on the Wii to enjoy for the first time?

I feel like everyone has talked about both games to death over the last several years, so instead, I wanted to focus on what is actually new in these games on the Switch.

First, the new stuff

Image via Nintendo

Despite appearances, both games feature enhanced visual upgrades for the Switch and Switch 2. The visuals are significantly crisper and more noticeable than I thought they would be, especially after watching the trailer. It's a bit jarring. Both versions also have a new soundtrack mode, with newly added music tracks for the jukebox lovers out there.

It's hard at first to tell what is really different between the versions of the Wii ones outside of the noticeable graphical improvements and a new coat of paint, but that isn't exactly a bad thing either. In fact, in some areas it feels like they removed textures, making sure grounded areas feel more plain than their Wii counterparts. I'm not sure why Nintendo decided to do this, but as someone who played many of the Wii versions to prepare for this review, it's more evident in retrospect.

Image via Nintendo

There is also a new addition for both games called Assist Mode. In it, you get six health at all times instead of three, and if you were to fall at any time, the game will instantly grab you and put you back where you dropped off instead of instantly killing you in a black hole.

The games also feature new motion controls where you tilt the Joy-Con to move the cursor on screen. If you are in handheld mode, you can use touch controls instead, which is arguably easier. I find the touch controls to be more precise, and the controller motion-controlled mouse to be a bit clunky at best.

Lastly, you can find additional chapters of Rosalina's picture book in both games. But we won't be talking about what is actually in them, and let you find out those secrets for yourselves!

But are the games any good?

Image via Nintendo

I mean... It's Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Of course, these games are still fantastic and hold up. Minor clunky issues aside, the ports hold up super well, run smoothly, and the fact that you can play these games on the go is fantastic. Of course, we could already do that with Super Mario Galaxy as part of the 3D Mario Collection released on Switch years back, but finally having Mario Galaxy 2 feels like a bonus treat.

Both games are filled to the brim with hundreds of hours of content for those who want to collect and complete everything old and discover all the new stuff, too. The controls are still some of the tightest in history, and the worlds and locations, alongside the return of fan-favorite power-ups, are still standouts that haven't been repeated in any Mario game to this day. Both experiences are excellent, and for anyone who missed the chance to play these games in the past, the titles are not to be avoided, especially with the Switch-specific changes made. I'd call this the definitive way to play these games at this point.

Image via Nintendo

There are even some surprises in store for series veterans, and of course, Luigi is back if you wish to switch up characters. Having both games overloaded with content also makes picking them up a no-brainer, even if you've played them before. Though, as mentioned before, the Wii-style gameplay does take some getting used to, especially when using a Pro Controller.

I can't stress enough how much I still enjoy replaying these games on the new system, and being able to play an updated version of Super Mario Galaxy 2 has been a delight and will definitely be my go-to for any future long journeys. I could 100% complete these games over and over again.

A galactic finisher

Image via Nintendo

These games are a masterclass even nearly 20 years later. Both are massively enjoyable, and while some of the changes made to the original are questionable, they are amazing to play again and again.

You could argue that the price point is not worth it for the changes, but when it comes down to what it is—a video game. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 are still massively enjoyable games that offer an insane amount of content and replayability, making them well worth picking up. Even if I had personally liked to see full-on remasters from the ground up, these games still hold up remarkably well and transition from Wii to Switch amazingly, despite some personal nitpicks.

And hey, if you want to catch a glimpse of nostalgia. Be sure to check out our full-blown legacy reviews for the original Wii releases of Super Mario Galaxy here, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 here.
