Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, November 7, 2025 10:02 AM Europa Universalis 5 has its first public patch, which encompasses over 350 fixes. Among the bigger things it smacks with the heal-o-spanner (an actual game development tool, traditionally carved from the base of a Taito arcade machine) is the Steams achievements system, which will no longer shower players in plaudits they haven't earned. On the plus side, you'll now earn achievements even if you activate the "allow ahistorical" game rule. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, November 7, 2025 6:18 AM Final Fantasy developers and publishers Square Enix have announced plans to lay off staff, with workers across "nearly all areas" of their Western business arms being affected. More than 100 UK staff are reportedly expected to be affected, with an indeterminate number of US-based workers also reportedly facing a future that's up in the air. The reasoning given for the cuts centres around that depressingly ever-present word nowadays - restructuring - as Square look to cut costs and consolidate their focus around their Japanese development base. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, November 7, 2025 5:55 AM Last week, GTA 6 developers Rockstar Games suddenly fired 31 of their UK-based workers as well as three based in Canada - initially on a charge of "gross misconduct", then for the act of sharing "confidential information on a public forum". According to the UK's IWGB Game Workers union, which all the dismissed UK-based employees were members of, the real reason for the firing was to stop the employees unionising. Since the firings, the IWGB has launched legal proceedings to reinstate all affected UK-based employees, while also holding protests in solidarity. Yesterday, I attended a protest held outside Rockstar North's offices in Edinburgh - a small but spirited gathering of people chanting slogans like "Say sorry, be nice, stand up for worker's rights". There were a few politicians in attendance and some creative GTA-themed signs, including one with five stars alluding to the game's wanted system, which had two stars filled up in yellow when I first arrived. By the time I left, it had been completely filled in. |

Intelligent Systems' next Fire Emblem: Three Houses figure of female Byleth will feature the avatar as a Dancer, and Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for it. It is $194.99/¥26,950. We'll see it launch first in Japan around October 2026. A worldwide release is planned after that, but that won't take place until Q1 2027.
This is a static figure of the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It stands at almost 10 inches tall (250mm). There are no additional face plates or arm parts to change her pose. The costume is designed to be a replica of the one she wears if she changes into the Class in-game.
Here's how the Fire Emblem: Three Houses female Byleth Dancer figure will look from different angles:
There's also a YouTube video showing it from different angles.
In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the Dancer class is a more limited one. You unlock access to it after getting to a December White Heron Cup event in-game. Only one member of your party can take part and, as a result, get Dancer as an option if you ensure their Charisma is high enough before it takes place.
The Fire Emblem: Three Houses Byleth Dancer figure will debut in Japan in October 2026, and the female version of the avatar as this Class will appear worldwide around Q1 2027. Pre-orders are open until January 14, 2026. Fire Emblem: Three Houses is available for the Switch, and the Fortune's Weavesequel will be on the Switch 2 in 2026.

Mitchie M is known for "Hatsune Miku realistic singing" songs, and the Vocaloid composer and HoYoVerse shared a new Honkai: Star Rail track called "Memi Memi Myun Myun" starring Mem for HoYoFair2025. As the name suggests, it is completely focused on the Memosprite from Amphoreous. It is paired with an animated music video of the character from Jun Aoki and Space Neko Company.
There are a few spoilers near the end of the music video in the form of backup dancers for Mem, but this Honkai: Star Rail track primarily focuses on the mascot-style character. As a reminder, we almost immediately meet Mem in the Amphoreus storyline of the game. When the Trailblazer gets their Remembrance path role, she serves as the Memosprite we can summon to aid and attack alongside the party. The Gray-mera Chimera based on the Trailblazer character shows up as a DJ and dancer at some points too.
Here's the full "Memi Memi Myun Myun" Honkai: Star Rail from Hatsune Miku composer Mitchie M from YouTube. There are only Japanese subtitle options. The "spoiler" backup dancers come up after the 2:09 mark.
This Mitchie M Honkai: Star Rail song about M isn't the only recent one about video game or anime characters, as the Vocaloid composer contibuted "What Kind of Future" to the Project Voltage project pairing up Hatsune Miku with Pokemon and created a track called "Idol Senshi" for Gundam x Miku.
You can see the Project Voltage song "What Kind of Future" below:
And here's "Idol Senshi." A figure was even made based on this music video.
Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and a Cyrene banner is now live alongside the 3.7 update.

Takara Tomy has revealed a new lineup of Tomica toy cars that it will release in January 2026. The list also includes Dream Tomica cars inspired by characters from Nintendo and HAL Laboratory's Kirby franchise.
These cars will appear with inspiration from Carby or Karby, which is derived from Kirby using the Mouthful Mode on a car in the Nintendo Switch game Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Takara Tomy is not the only company to produce merchandise based on that, as Medicom Toys had also released a Car Kirby toy in February 2025.
The Kirby toy cars will be available at 880 yen (~$5.75) apiece. However, they will appear randomly via a kuji lottery format inside blind boxes. A total of six character models will be available, with two designs set to appear for Kirby (regular and sleep) and Waddle Dee (regular and bandana), and Meta Knight and King Dedede filling the last two slots.
Kirby will not be the only franchise that gets new Dream Tomica toys in January 2026. The company will also release two My Hero Academia Dream Tomicas, modeled after Izuku "Deku" Midoriya and Katsuki "Kacchan" Bakugo, in the same month. However, the latter two products will be available for sale earlier at Jump Festa in December 2025 via Takara Tomy's booth.
The Dream Tomica Kirby of the Star Collection will be available in January 2026.

During the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, HoYoVerse officially announced Petit Planet, its life sim game designed to offer an Animal Crossing style experience. At the time, only initial teasers and the promise of a November 2025 Coziness Test closed beta appeared. Now that's upon us and, as expected, this does feel inspired by Nintendo's title. However, after spending some time testing an in-progress build out, I feel like it is a little more task-focused than something like Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Petit Planet begins with Loomi Corp giving our avatars a chance to develop their own uninhabited planet, with the help of employees Mobai, Glenn, and Esassani. Mobai is something of the Tom Nook mentor here, though he jokes that initial residence comes without any kind of loan or financial commitment. Glenn handles the shop on our fledgeling planet. Esassani acts as our chauffeur to take us through the Starsea in our car. After picking our planet type, of which there were a Golden Prairie with a hot and dry Taffeh one and Verdant Plains warm and humid one in the Hexia galaxy during the beta, we head off. Upon landing, we get to set up a home and plant a Lucaseed that will grow into a tree that influences this world. As we go through different campaign tasks, we eventually get a special kind of Luca liquid that allows it to grow and unlock new elements like kinds of life, cosmetic changes, and features like the ability to dig up stuff or engage in more farming.
From there, the gameplay flow HoYoVerse created in Petit Planet does feel a lot like life sims such as Animal Crossing and Hello Kitty: Island Adventure. It follows a real-world clock after you get past a certain point of the tutorial. So some quests, once completed, won't completely go through and show the results until the next day. For example, Glenn's shop will open the next day after you get the materials for it, and as will Mors' ecological habitat for insects, fish, and shore-dwelling creatures you collect with tongs. The in-progress build in the test made a cooking station with pot available for recipes right away, with a crafting table and kiosk for purchases like larger houses, Starsea car-travel related items, and cosmetics.
Two types of currency are present in-game during this test. Dough is earned via things like quests or selling items you collect or craft. This can be spent at Glenn's store for items like furniture, seeds, and clothing. We collect stars earned via collecting Footsteps milestones for performing actions like hitting trees or rocks with your Mattock, crafting, collecting wildlife, and similar sorts of activities. This can be spent at the Loomi Co kiosk, specifically on new hairstyles, clothing, accessories, and furniture in this closed beta. Stamina is another element we need to manage, but it's easily refilled by eating a quick prepared meal made from wildlife, fruit, and vegetables found on the island or a snack like a Mango.
The content may differ from the final Closed Beta version.
But as I mentioned at the outset, one of my strongest impressions in Petit Planet so far is that it feels like HoYoVerse prioritized completing quests more in this game than than Nintendo did in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, even though so much of it does feel like that title. I'd almost say it's more like Hello Kitty: Island Adventure in terms of constantly available main and side missions. These can be found on the main and neighbor tabs in the menu, with the ability to track all of them. (Tracking can get extremely detailed, which I appreciate, since it can even be tied to specific materials needed for certain assignments.) After you get past a certain point in the tutorial, each day begins with a dispatch Tala's Miracle Parade: Shortwave News Buzz, and then you move on to daily tasks. From there, you can go about collecting daily resources like wood and sap from trees, crops from farming plots, ore from regenerated rocks, and regrown flowers and grasses.
While there are those tasks constantly lining up, Petit Planet does feel a little more relaxed when it comes to maintaining relationships with the anthropomorphic animal neighbors who come to our island. There is a friendship system in place, with their page in our indexes showing their name, birthday, planet, bond level, gifts they love, like, and dislike, some initial about tidbits, a log of actions, and a Journey section that lets us put earned Archiboos from daily actions toward improving our relationships. There's no threat of them moving away in this closed beta, and the nature of it makes me suspect that won't be present in the full game. The two initial ones I encountered in this trial are Yunguo, a red panda, and Msafiri, who appears to be a snow leopard. The initial introductory neighbor-specific questlines for them involved helping them with initial tasks, asking them to move, placing their homes, getting and crafting them each three pieces of furniture for their new homes, getting their larger residences from the Loomi kiosk, and collecting the building materials for those. Talking to them casually could result in getting a free material. Checking in might result in a quick quest. But initially, it seems HoYoVerse designed them to offer Hello Kitty: Island Adventure style bonding quests and relationship tiers along with Animal Crossing companionship in Petit Planet.
The content may differ from the final Closed Beta version.
When I first saw Petit Planet, I absolutely saw how HoYoVerse used Animal Crossing as an inspiration for their own life sim, but after early hours with the in-progress game via the beta, it also feels more task-focused like Hello Kitty: Island Adventure too. It seems like there will be a lot of relaxing, low-pressure activities. However, it does seem very quest-focused, with mainline campaign and neighbor assignments to keep us busy each day. Of course, during my play sessions I was determined to do as much as possible as quickly as possible. Which would mean seeing a lot of constant mission notifications and assignments in my queue. But even so, my initial Petit Planet impressions is that this HoYoVerse approach to Animal Crossing will involve a lot more Hello Kitty: Island Adventure style assignments.
Petit Planet is in development for PCs and mobile devices, and the closed Coziness Test beta is live now.

A Warm Place to Rest quest in ARC Raiders can make you quite emotional once you complete all the tasks.
A Warm Place to Rest is structured similarly to other quests, where you have to reach a specific location. You obtain this quest from Apollo, and let's look at how you can complete all the tasks.
Table of contents
ARC Raiders A Warm Place to Rest quest walkthrough
You break the A Warm Place to Rest quest down into four different parts.
The first task is to reach the Abandoned Highway Camp in Buried City. Located in the southwest part of the map, it's near the Grandioso Apartments. I have marked the location on the screenshot below to avoid any confusion.
If you're at the exact location as marked on the screenshot, you'll find a wrecked bus with a blue backpack to your right. Once you're close enough, it will highlight for you to mark and complete the second part of the quest.
Once you reach the backpack, you'll notice a grave marker with red cloth. You'll find several of these markers, which will guide you to the grave that you're looking for. The grave is located in the centre of the map near Buried Properties. I have marked its location (G in the screenshot above) to make it easier for you to find. You can also follow the red markers that will eventually lead you to the same place.
You'll come across some broken walls, and the grave marker will be located near them. Interact with it to complete the fourth task, and the A Warm Place to Rest.

Here's the complete list of rewards that you get from completing the A Warm Place to Rest quest.

The Untended Garden quest is one of the simpler assignments in ARC Raiders, and you have to find and supply a piece of data to the correct location.
You begin the quest after obtaining it from Celeste, and the first task is to obtain the data from the correct place. Once done, you'll have to upload it to a terminal to finish the mission. Let's look at the finer details to complete the Untended Garden mission efficiently in ARC Raiders.
Table of contents
ARC Raiders Untended Garden quest walkthrough
The Untended Garden quest can be broken down into three different parts.
You'll have to complete all three tasks in one raid, so make sure not to die in between completing them.
First task is to head to the Hydroponic Dome Complex. This location can be found in the middle of the Dam Battlegrounds map. I have marked the location of its northern entrance, which will make it easier for you to reach the data terminal. If you're at the marked spot, you'll find the terminal inside a room.
Use the computer-like setup to access and download the data by interacting with the setup.
Once you have the data, go to the nearest field depot that you can find on the map. You can then interact with the PC to upload the data to complete the last part of the task and finish the Untended Garden quest.
ARC Raiders Untended Garden quest rewards
Here's the complete list of rewards you obtain by completing the Untended Garden.
If you want to complete more quests, A Balanced Harvest and Communication Hideout are pretty challenging missions.
