Edwin got beat up the other day, so I suppose it's up to me to ask what everyone's playing this weekend. No extended joke here. He's just absolutely battered. In pieces, really. God, that must have been humiliating for him.

Marathon key art

One of the priority contracts in Marathon requires you to find the UESC Commander location in the South Relay, and it's a job that's easier said than done.

Part of the Equitable Distribution (4/4) contract, you'll find the mission from the Traxus faction. To do so, you'll first need to gain access to the faction itself. Once the contract pops up, you'll need to head to South Relay.

How to complete Equitable Distribution (4/4) in Marathon

The Equitable Distribution (4/4) contract can be broken down into two parts.

  • Trace Commander location at Terminal South of South Relay
  • Acquire credentials from the UESC Commander

The main part of the contract is to find out the Commander's location. To do so, you'll have to head to the southern end of the South Relay location. The South Relay POI is a named location, so it's easy to find. I have marked the exact location where you need to reach as part of this contract.

Once you reach the spot, you'll find an orange-colored one-storeyed building located on the outskirts. There are multiple doors; reach anyone you like, and the quest marker will appear. However, none of the doors is open. To reach the terminal, use the nearby ladder and get on the roof. Drop down from the open hatch, and you'll find the terminal.

Interact with the terminal to find out more about the arrival of the Trace Commander. Once the interaction is complete, you'll get four minutes to get the credentials. When you try to escape the terminal building, you'll find that the doors are still locked.

To escape, use an underground hatch open in the next room. Just drop down, avoid the lasers, and you'll reach the surface.

Open the map, and you'll find a marked location on the map. Reach the location (tends to be random), and you'll have a UESC ship arriving with the Commander. Kill him, and you'll be able to get the UESC credentials. This completes the contract, and you'll be rewarded with Rep to rank up the Traxus faction.

Marathon shooting at bugs

Marathon's Server Slam will conclude this weekend after acting as a stress test for the full launch, and all your in-game progression will be erased once the beta is over. However, there are still some great reasons behind why you should grind and rank up as much as possible.

Will you retain your Marathon Server Slam items?

All items you found for your backpack and vault during the Server Slam will be completely gone after this weekend. When the game officially launches on March 5, you'll need to start from scratch once again. Your backpack and loadout will be empty (apart from a few rewards, but more on that later).

Your seasonal progress will also reset completely, and you'll have to begin from the first level. The same rule also applies to all the contracts that you complete and the factions that you unlock. Come March 5, and you'll only have the first faction unlocked for you. You'll start by completing the beginner contracts, and then proceed further. Do note that the contracts could change upon full launch.

The same rule also applies to all kinds of cosmetics that you'll unlock in your account by grinding the codex. However, you'll get the chance to get them once again by completing different Codex activities on the full version of the game. Once again, lookout for new Codex challenges on the full launch version that could provide you with more rewards.

What do you retain from Marathon Server Slam

While you don't retain anything directly from your loadout and completed quests, some rewards will be available on the full launch. If you complete the introductory mission, you'll unlock the Beta.exe player background and Complex Study emblem. However, there are a few more things to get.

Complete your first mission: Unlock the Standard Arrival Cache

  • 6 Standard Implants
  • 5 Standard Runner shell cores
  • 6 Standard weapon chip mods
  • Weapons: Overrun and Hardline

Reach Runner Level 10: Unlock the Enhanced Arrival Cache (Green)

  • 6 Enhanced Implants
  • 12 Enhanced Runner shell cores (Two for each)
  • 4 Enhanced weapon mods
  • Weapons: Enhanced Magnum and Enhanced Hardline

Reach Runner Level 30: Unlock the Deluxe Arrival Cache (Blue)

  • 6 Deluxe and Enhanced implants (3 for each)
  • 12 Deluxe and Enhanced Runner shell cores (1 for each shell)
  • 4 Deluxe and Enhanced weapon chip mods (2 for each)
  • Weapons: Deluxe Magnum and Enhanced Volley Rifle
  • Backpack: Enhanced Base Backpack

All the rewards listed in this section will exclusively depend on how much progress you can make in the Server Slam. They will be available in your account once the full launch takes place on the fifth of March.

Marathon on Xbox and PC

Marathon actively centers around loot that you get from your runs, and it's an important task to manage your inventory to keep more items with you.

When you begin, the inventory size won't be much of an issue. You can keep going on your run and bring you new loot as much as you can. However, the limited inventory starts to become an issue once you're past the initial stage. A few runs with Sponsored kits quickly add to the list of items you have (as long as you manage to complete the run without getting killed).

Thankfully, there's a fix for the limited inventory (vault space).

How to increase your Vault size in Marathon

Your vault is your main inventory where you store all your stuff. By default, you can keep 160 items on it. To bypass this limit, you'll need the Expansion upgrade offered by the CyberAcme faction. Getting this upgrade isn't too difficult as long as you have sufficient credits.

You can expand your vault space five times in total (could change in the future). To complete the upgrades, you'll need more Credits and resources.

Upgrade level Effect Cost
1 +8 rows 2500 Credits
12 Unstable Diode
2 +8 rows 4000 Credits
22 Unstable Diode
12 Unstable Gunmetal
3 +6 rows 5000 Credits
27 Unstable Diode
15 Unstable Gunmetal
4 +4 rows 7000 Credits
30 Unstable Diode
18 Unstable Gunmetal
5 +4 rows 10000 Credits
50 Unstable Diode
30 Unstable Gunmetal

While getting all the upgrades is expensive, I would recommend getting the first two done as quickly as possible if you're running out of Vault space. You can get the latter once you've earned more resources and have that many items in your loadout to begin with.

How to increase backpack size in Marathon

Your backpack size determines how many items you can carry on your run. The default backpack is pretty small, but you can expand it using upgraded versions. The enhanced backpacks can be purchased from the armory. You can also do them by completing certain contracts, reaching character rank milestones, and more.

Do note that Sponsored loadouts don't have any enhanced backpack. However, you can find and equip them on your run to trigger the benefits.
