Terraria meets Don't Starve in new fantasy roguelike you can play now

If there's anything likely to turn heads in the indie PC games space, it's the opportunity to customize. Whether that customization is made available through the character creation of an RPG game like Baldur's Gate 3 or the building features of something like Palworld, players always seem to gravitate to games that let them express themselves. This certainly seems to be one of the big hooks of Rogue Night, an upcoming survival game and roguelike hybrid that's set to come out sometime this year, and has made a demo available for players to try out now.

91% rated co-op horror game to launch grotesque limited time event

Outlast never really seemed like it would be able to make a smooth transition into becoming a multiplayer game. The first two horror games, sharing DNA with Alien: Isolation and Amnesia: The Dark Descent, are frightening in large part because they make players feel utterly alone in an unfathomably terrifying situation. Still, the move away from solo design represented by The Outlast Trials has gone over very well, creator Red Barrels' latest garnering praise and attracting players through the success of its Dead by Daylight reminiscent premise and, as today's news continues, a steady cadence of updates.

     Predecessor isn't just

It's no secret that the MOBA ecosystem is dominated by two games: League of Legends, and Dota 2. It's one of the hardest nuts to crack, with games like Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm and Epic Games' Paragon failing to challenge Riot and Valve's respective behemoths. Omeda Studios, however, is hoping to make its mark by breathing new life into Epic's aforementioned MOBA with Predecessor, Paragon's spiritual successor. While certain elements may feel familiar, however, Omeda CEO Robbie Singh tells me that Predecessor learns from its forefather, and innovates in a way that makes it a worthy competitor to LoL and Dota.

The most mid DBD killer is suddenly the absolute best

Being a chainsaw-wielding killer in Dead by Daylight might sound like fun but for the longest time The Hillbilly had the short end of the stick. He'd have to aim his chainsaw incredibly carefully, manage heat levels at all times, and even when everything seemed right he'd bounce off a stray bit of terrain, interrupting his charge. That's why despite being one of the free killers everyone who owns the game has access to, he was one of the least picked killers in the game.

One of the most wishlisted games on Steam is hosting a huge playtest

Between Stalker, The Forest, Rust, and Valheim, the overwhelming majority of modern, open-world survival games have a committed, at least semi-grounded aesthetic. For Stalker 2 dev GSC, it's the quasi nuclear, reality distorting strangeness of Tarkovsky's 1979 film. The Forest and Rust share a rugged, earth-and-stone pragmatism, while Valheim plays on Norse magical realism. There's consistency. There are boundaries. Now the 14th most-wishlisted game on all of Steam, above Homeworld 3, Silent Hill 2, and even Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, a new open-world survival sandbox throws much of that caution to the wind. Inspired by the New Weird of SCP and Remedy's Control, it's a sprawling, cut-loose stage for whatever players want to do, and PCGamesN has an exclusive look and insight from its creators.

How on Earth did Fallout ever get made?

April 12, 2024: With the launch of the Fallout TV show, we're taking a trip down memory lane to reshare some of our classic Fallout coverage. This post was originally published in October of 2017.

Tim Cain was at PAX when he first saw Vault Boy as a living, breathing entity - it was a cosplayer of 16 or 17 years old, hair gelled to replicate that distinctive swirl. 'This is weird', he thought. Feargus Urquhart remembers walking into Target and seeing that same gelled haircut and toothy smile, not on a fan this time, but emblazoned across half a meter of cotton. 'How is it that a game that we all worked on somehow created something iconic?', he wondered. 'How did it show up on a t-shirt in a department store?'

In the years since, Bethesda has taken Fallout into first-person, online, and the pop culture mainstream. Vault Boy has become as recognizable as Mickey Mouse. The series' sardonic, faux-'50s imagery now feels indelible, as if it has always been here. But it hasn't.

"Very little Bela Lugosi" is not a criticism I ever expected to level at a game. It's not entirely unexpected considering he's dead, but I'm still grumbling at you, Carpathian Night Starring Bela Lugosi.

It is, as it appears, an unabashed homage to Castlevania, but with none of the -vania, making it much more like the original (or the game boy ones, and possibly a few others in the series I don't know about): a straightforward, linear platform game about whipping monsters and not stepping on spikes. Ten a penny, right? But CNSBL captures it so well that it had me looking up old game boy tunes it vaguely reminded me of.

My most recent experiences with performance-testing strategy games have been defined by miserable sluggishness and dental drama, so it's been a relief to find that citybuilding/RTS hybrid Manor Lords is set to launch in a relatively fine state. As an early access game, no less.

Having dug into the latest build's GPU performance and graphics settings, I have found a few loose strands of technical flax that Manor Lords could do with snipping away. Yet it's generally in good shape, both for early access and a solo developer project, successfully balancing strong visuals with relatively light hardware demands that should help it run on older PCs (or handhelds like the Steam Deck). Several hours in, the ugliest things I've seen are my road layouts.

Some new videogame releases pounce on us like excitable Golden Retrievers, while others become apparent to us more insidiously, like undead Golden Retrievers creeping back from the grave to do their master's bidding unto eternity. Withering Rooms is one of the latter: released out of early access last week, and noticed by me just yesterday, it's a haunted mansion metroidvania in which you are a small girl in a nightie who must use meat cleavers, pentagrams and spells of self-enlargement or possession or incineration to overcome various monsters of the Silently Hilly and/or Residentially Evil persuasion. amane kanata pop up parade figure header

Good Smile Company announced a Pop Up Parade figure of Vtuber Amane Kanata from Hololive. The figure is available to pre-order from April 11, 2024, and will be available until May 8, 2024.

As a reminder, due to licensing restrictions, Good Smile Company only ships to Japan, Canada, and the United States. Those who purchase from the Japanese site can expect to get it in September 2024. It'll cost 5,500 JPY. Meanwhile, those will order it from the North American store can get it in Q1 2025. It'll cost $33.99.

The Amane Kanata Pop Up Parade figure stands at approximately 170 millimeters, which is the norm for most figures in the collection. You cannot adjust her pose. She looks like she's winking at you and either running in a rather girlish way, or striking a cute pose. One leg is up, and she's holding both hands close to her face.

Amane Kanata is a VTuber from the fourth generation of Hololive. Other people who debuted with her include Tsunomaki Watame, Himemori Luna, and Tokoyami Towa. As of the time of writing, she has over 1.46 million subscribers on her YouTube channel. Like most other VTubers, her content revolves around singing, Let's Plays, and ASMR. She's had to take several breaks in the past for health reasons, such as when she got COVID-19 and when she had to get proper treatment for her asthma. Aside from the Pop Up Parade figure of her, you can also get a Nendoroid or a scale figure of Amane Kanata.

The Amane Kanata Pop Up Parade figure is open for pre-order until May 8, 2024.

One Piece Bepo cushions will be available in two sizes

Benelic revealed new napping cushions modeled after Bepo from One Piece. It will sell these items exclusively at Shueisha's Jump Shop in Japan. Although all cushions will be completely made of polyester, they will be available in two different sizes.

The regular cushion will come with a price tag of ¥7,700 (~$50.20). It will be sized at around 57 cm (~22.44 in) tall and 43 cm (~16.93 in) wide. This version will be available for purchase in both physical and online Jump Shop outlets across Japan.

Benelic will also produce larger versions of the One Piece Bepo cushion. This one will be almost double the size of the regular version at around 100 cm (~39.37 in) tall and 76 cm (~29.92 in) wide. It will also weigh around 4.56 kg (~10 lbs).

chibi maruko-chan kikuchi kokoro

Kokoro Kikuchi is the new voice actress of Maruko, the titular protagonist from Chibi Maruko-chan. She is replacing the character's original voice actress, TARAKO, who died earlier this year. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

The Kikuchi version of Maruko will appear from the April 21, 2024 episode of the show. From April 21 to June 9, 2024, there will be re-runs of the more famous episodes, but with Kikuchi re-voicing TARAKO's lines. Kikuchi states that it may take fans a while to become accustomed to hearing her voice from Maruko's mouth. But she hopes that people will be patient with her. She also reminisces on meeting TARAKO a while ago when she was in the recording booth for Chibi Maruko-chan. Though she's always been a fan of the series, she said that the atmosphere during recordings was so pleasant and TARAKO was so nice that the experience made her like the show even more.

TARAKO, a veteran voice actress who played the protagonist since the show's beginning in 1990, died in early March 2024 when she was 63. It was a sudden death and it was unclear what the cause was. Her replacement for Maruko, Kokoro Kikuchi, started her career in the early 2000s. Some of her roles include Akito/Agito from Air Gear, Potpourri in Heartcatch Pretty Cure, and Gregory in Over the Garden Wall.

Kokoro Kikuchi will replace TARAKO as Maruko in Chibi Maruko-chan from April 21, 2024. You can watch the show via Crunchyroll.

yu-gi-oh vrains borreload dragon figure

Megahouse and FREEing have announced a figure of Borreload Dragon from Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS. The figure is available via storefronts like AmiAmi and Premium Bandai for 7700 JPY ($50.35). [Thanks, Figure Times!]

The Borreload Dragon figure stands at around 130 millimeters tall. It has a metallic finish to complete the monster's more robotic design, and the wings are of more translucent material. In the show and the game, Borreload Dragon is a Link-4 Dark Type Monster that you can summon by linking together three or more Effect Monsters. It first appeared in Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS as the ace monster of Revolver, who is the main rival character for protagonist Yusaku. It was originally only in booster packs like Circuit Break until the Rokket Revolt structure deck came out, guaranteeing that you could get this card.

Here are some more pictures of the figure:

Premium Bandai does not offer shipping outside of Japan. So those outside of the country will need to use AmiAmi to purchase this. The Borreload Dragon figure is part of Megahouse's Yu-Gi-Oh Monster Chronicle line, which started in 2020. Other figures that are part of this collection include monsters like the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and the Insect Queen.

Elena and Cissnei Age in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Revealed in Ultimania

We now know the age Elena is as of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, as well as how old Cissnei is, thanks to FFVII Rebirth Ultimania. Aitai Kuji owner Audrey Lamsam shared insights from a copy, which just released in Japan, on social media and confirmed Elena is 18 and Cissnei is 22.

Here is Lamsam's post about what the age of Elena in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was.

https://twitter.com/aitaikimochi/status/1778613177498124786

And here are the Cissnei details. Since there was about a five year gap between the events of Crisis Core FFVII and Final Fantasy VII Remake, her age would have been around 17 years old when Cissnei first met Zack in the prequel game.

https://twitter.com/aitaikimochi/status/1778616579258998977

As a reminder, the Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania book revealed the age of the three other Turks members Reno, Rufus, and Tseng. Lamsam shared those at launch as well. Rude and Tseng are both 30, which is the same age as Rufus Shinra, while Reno is two years younger at 28.

People can face off against three members of the Turks in another Final Fantasy VII game, as Reno, Rude, and Elena are now in FFVII Ever Crisis. The trio are a part of a Turks A-Team Critical Threat challenge.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and its demo are available on the PS5, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and FFVII Ever Crisis is available on the PC and mobile devices.

New Genshin Impact Character Sethos Teased

In the 4.6 Genshin Impact Special Program, a new installment in the Cyno character quest was teased alongside a character named Sethos. He'll apparently play a large part in that story.

We first get to see Sethos at the 2:45 minute mark of the Special Program. He's watching Cyno from afar. Then, at the 3:14 mark, see him about to square off against the five-star Electro character in a Rite of Duels. Apparently, this is a battle for "the wisdom of Hermanubis." We don't get any hint about what sort of weapon Sethos might use. Later in the showcase at the 18:25 mark, it's explained that Act II of Lupus Aureus Chapter will involve Cyno investigating a Sumeru City mystery and encountering someone he knows. The brief clip there shows Sethos discussing something with Cyno.

Here's the official social media post revealing that Sethos will be a new Genshin Impact character. It also noted his voice actors. Zeno Robinson, who recently played Junpei in Persona 3 Reload and Yeyasu in Disgaea 7, is his English voice actor. Shoya Chiba, who people may recognize as Kaie in NEO The World Ends with You and Sigma in Bungo Stray Dogs, plays the character in Japanese.

nintendo switch online april 2024

Nintendo has revealed the new retro games that'll appear in April 2024 for those who have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The library of games differ depending on if you're in North America or if you're in Japan.

Super NES games that'll appear in the North American store will be Amazing Hebereke, Super R-Type, and Wrecking Crew '98. You can check out the trailer via the Nintendo of America YouTube account here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pS-G3yVsK4

Amazing Hebereke came out in 1994 for the Super Famicom. It is a fighting game with a bird's eye view, letting you fight against up to three other characters in the same match. In a sense, it's similar to Super Smash Bros, which came out a few years later.

The Japanese Nintendo Switch Online store will have the same line-up. However, people in Japan will also be able to play Battletoads in Battlemaniacs and Marvelous: Mou Hitotsu no Takarajima. Nintendo of America likely could not get these games due to licensing issues. Super R-Type came out in 1991, with Irem developing and publishing it. It is a horizontal scrolling shooter with a rather high difficulty level. Finally, Wrecking Crew '98 came out in 1998 on the Nintendo Power. It is an action puzzle game that is similar to Tetris or Puyo Puyo

Nintendo Switch Online is a paid subscription you can sign up for, allowing you to play online and giving access to a massive library of retro games. Previously, Nintendo added games like F-Zero X, Castlevania Legends, and Mother 3

All April 2024 additions are available through Nintendo Switch Online.

fallout 4 free update

On April 25, 2024, Bethesda Game Studios will release a free Fallout 4 update for the Xbox Series X, PS5, and Windows PC. You can read what the updates will have via the official website.

The Xbox Series X and PS5 updates will focus on improving stability, as well as implementing fixes. It will also include native applications and performance updates, allowing you to play it with up to 60 FPS and new resolutions. This update was supposed to come out in December 2023. However, Bethesda needed to delay it, as the developers needed more time to work on it.

The PC version of the update will also have fixes, such as to the Creation Kit and some quests. It'll also introduce widescreen and ultra-widescreen support. Those who played in Chinese and Japanese were unable to log into Bethesda's website, thus locking them out of some mods.

While Fallout 4 was originally only on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and GOG, it will become available for purchase on the Epic Games Store along with this update. You'll also be able to play it on the Steam Deck. Aside from fixes, the update will introduce new Creation Club items such as Enclave skins, as well as a Makeshift Weapon pack and a Halloween Workshop.

Fallout 4 is readily available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The free Fallout 4 update will only be for the Xbox Series X, PS5, and Windows PC though.
