New World Aeternum turns a middling MMO into a great RPG

When Amazon Games first announced New World: Aeternum, the "spiritual sequel" to its flagship MMORPG, New World, I think we were all a bit perplexed. Is this a remake? Is it a full sequel? Is it an ARPG rework? Why now? Questions, questions, and yet more questions. As one of the millions of people who tried out New World at launch, I was intrigued, especially given the apparent switch to ARPG-style combat; I imagined New World's universe with an injection of Diablo and the fluidity of Lost Ark. I was pleasantly surprised when I sat down at Summer Game Fest to take Aeternum for a spin, but I ultimately left with more questions than I had to begin with.

I played badminton yesterday. I am now incredibly sore all over. It made me realise that, perhaps more than anything else you could say about them, weekends are for being sore. Sleeping in, waking up covered in aches, making a noise like someone three times your age when you get out of bed, and then pretending you're a third of your current age by doing nothing except play games for the next 48 hours. Here's how we'll be spending them!

hololive roboco

hololive VTuber Roboco will have a stream on July 6, 2024 from 12:00 PM. This stream will be a zatsudan stream in which she talks about the time she was in the hospital.

The above date and time for the stream correlates to Japan. It would be July 5, 2024 at 8:00 PM PST/11 PM EST. You'll be able to watch the stream from Roboco's YouTube channel.

According to Roboco's Tweet, she was actually in the hospital for reasons she'll discuss in the stream. An ambulance took her there about a week ago. Because she had no idea when she would be let out, she wasn't able to say anything to people. However, she's recovered now and is able to stream again.

Roboco is not the only VTuber who had to go on hiatus due to medical reasons. Fellow hololive VTuber Ookami Mio, who was also in the hospital for acute pancreatitis, could not stream for over a month. She recovered in late June 2024 and returned to her normal streaming activities.

Roboco is the second ever member of hololive and debuted in 2018 on YouTube and Niconico. She debuted before the concept of generations in hololive, but she's considered to be in the 0th generation along with Tokino Sora, Hoshimachi Suisei, and Sakura Miko. As of the time of writing, she has over 1.01 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.

hololive VTuber Roboco will have a return stream at 12:00 PM on July 6, 2024.

Sadako From The Ring Joining Bishoujo Figure Series

At Anime Expo 2024, Kotobukiya officially confirmed that Sadako, the main character from The Ring series of novels, movies, and manga, will join the Bishoujo figure line. This comes after a teaser on July 3, 2024 that showed a video tape and a TV with static on it. On the second day of Anime Expo 2024, the company shared a picture of the painted prototype.

Here's the official concept art for The Ring Sadako Bishoujo figure. As usual, it is done by Shunya Yamashita. The artist is behind all of the designs for characters in the collection. The art shows her face entirely covered by her long black hair, though a shadow in the background shows one eye peeking out. She will wear a white dress and be surrounded by video tapes. This is a reference to how she spreads and attacks people.

Next, here's the full reveal from July 5, 2024:

https://twitter.com/Kotobukiya_EN/status/1809370424209469486

Many horror icons are a part of the Bishoujo figure line. In each case, the design depicts them as a beautiful young woman. So in 2023, one based on the 2017 version of Pennywise from It appeared. Beetlejuice also joined the lineup in 2020. Vampirella is going to be one of the next characters to join after Sadako.

While no prototype of the Sadako figure will appear at the event, other exclusive merchandise will be at Kotobukiya's booth. The company confirmed it will have Bishoujo figure variants of Cliff Jumper from Transformers, a Medical Officer from Star Trek, and Lilith from Darkstalkers.

There's no release window for the Sadako The Ring Bishoujo figure. Anime Expo runs July 4-7, 2024 at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.
