Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
We’re still two weeks away from Black Friday, but you wouldn’t know it based on the volume – and quality – of deals already available. (This is not a major surprise, given that everything in life seems to get earlier each year; it’s surely only a matter of time before the Christmas build-up starts on December 26th.) Anyway, lots of early Black Friday deals is a good thing if you like new technology, which I assume you do given that you’re reading this newsletter.

The best deal I’ve seen so far is the Pixel 8 Pro for £499 in the UK, which is astonishingly good value for a flagship phone that only came out a year ago – but if you have your eye on an OLED TV, air fryer, smart speaker, or headphones you’ll be equally well served. Look below and you’ll find our pick of the best offers up for grabs right now.

Of course by Black Friday next year we may not need to do our own shopping at all, because by then AI will probably be doing it for us. That certainly seems possible based on a new report that claims OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is readying its ‘AI agent’ for a January release. The idea here is that the agent – codenamed Operator – will browse the web on your behalf, making travel bookings and so on without needing your input.

I’m not sure that’s something I need, because I quite enjoy hunting for deals online – but I’d be very happy if an AI could watch some TV for me, because my backlog is unmanageable. If you manage your free time better than I do then you’ll want to check out our weekly guide to what’s new on the streaming scene below.
