Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, January 7, 2026 2:01 PM Jet Set Radio Future on PC? It's not a guarantee, but a new project may lead to such a, well, future You know what I might have most about games? There's no universal way to play them. You buy a DVD, you buy a DVD player, and aside from maybe a region lock issue you're as good as gold. If I buy Snowboard Kids for the N64, and I don't have one of those, well, I'm up a particular creek. That has meant that many a game over the years has been stuck to particular platforms, one of the most surprising being Jet Set Radio Future, to this day a game that's still only available on the original Xbox, and the Xbox 360 through backwards compatibility. But! Thanks to some techy wizards, that might change in the near future. |

This was seemingly the case for a number of people in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and now the game's lead designer Michel Nohra has expressed some regret for those who had that experience. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, January 7, 2026 12:13 PM Ubisoft are closing Ubisoft Halifax, the Canadian developers of mobile games Rainbow Six Mobile and Assassin's Creed Rebellion. This is strictly speaking outside our mandate as a PC gaming site, of course - I fear smartphones like Hell itself, and only ever communicate over long distances using homing pigeons - but it's all part of Ubisoft's wider transformation into a heavily Tencent-backed publisher, and the nasty twist is that Ubisoft Halifax had only just voted to unionise. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, January 7, 2026 11:57 AM A few years ago, it would have been pretty easy to imagine Helldivers 2 releasing as a free-to-play game. It is a live service game after all, most of those are free-to-play because studios want to reduce the barrier to entry. Instead, it launched as a paid-for, $40 game, a far cry from free, but not the $80-$100 releases we're seeing more and more of. And it's because Arrowhead made the decision to do so that Arc Raiders developer Embark did the exact same thing for their own shooter. |

Help, there are over 170 Creos to discover! Given that RPGs can be sluggish at first, I think I'm going to adopt this as standard practice going forward. To go along with the physical Final Fantasy XIV FanFest 2026 shirts and merchandise, Square Enix confirmed we will see digital, in-game versions of the t-shirts in the FFXIV Online Store. This will match the Aunt Tii's Tacos design. Prices weren't mentioned yet, but a handful of screenshots appeared to show what we can expect.
The in-game FFXIV FanFest 2026 shirt looks almost identical to the one that is being sold in real-life. The front features the Aunt Tii's Taco's logo with Fat Cat and taco against flowers, and the back features a design with three Fat Cats, two tacos, and a flag banner. There are two major differences. One is that the left sleeve in real life has a Final Fantasy XIV 2026 Anaheim Fan Festival logo in white on it. That doesn't appear in-game. The design in the front is also in English in real-life, but in Eorzean in the MMORPG.
Here are the first official images, and I included photos of the actual $34.99 shirt from the Square Enix Store so you can compare the two.
In addition to the initial photos showing the in-game design, Square Enix also shared another screenshot showing customization options in-game. People who get the FFXIV FanFest 2026 shirt will be able to dye it. They can also wear it in normal, form fitting, and oversized ways. The image showed it on different species and body types too.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the FFXIV Fan Festival 2026 will take place in Anaheim, California between April 24-25, 2026.

A few years after their original release, Bandai Namco announced the One Piece Grandline figures of Nami and Boa Hancock are now back again in Japan starting on January 8, 2026. This pair can be displayed alone or together and are once again showing up first as prize figures in Japanese arcades. Taito crane games already offer them. Since the Banpresto Amazon storefront sold the originals, we should see these two worldwide eventually as well.
Like the original release, both debuted at the same time. Nami and Boa are each wearing outfits from after the series' timeskip. Both of them also feature a similar metallic paint job. This means Nami's blue jeans are shiny, as is Boa's purple dress. The deck stands can interlock, and one example photo offers an idea of scale when placed alongside each other. Boa is taller at almost eight inches (20cm), due to the way she sits on the railing. Since Nami is standing and leaning on it, she is only just over six and a half inches tall.
Here are the latest photos showing how both the Nami and Boa Hancock One Piece Grandline figures look. Both of them can be displayed with their ship deck stand parts, though someone could also remove them to have them leaning or sitting on books or a shelf on their desk.
Prior to this, Bandai Namco shared another figure based on a character from the series. A new SH Figuarts one of Monkey D. Luffy puts him in an LA Lakers uniform. That will appear in 2026.
The One Piece Grandline figures of Nami and Boa Hancock are back in Japan as of January 8, 2026. The original anime is on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Viz Media handles the manga in English. The live-action adaptation is on Netflix.

As part of the 30th Anniversary Tamagotchi Exhibit, Dai-Tamagotchi-Ten, there will be pre-sales of a special Tamagotchi virtual pet Bearbrick model and an exclusive figure. These appeared as the event started at the Roppongi Museum in Tokyo on January 7, 2026. It's unknown if we could possibly see the virtual pet available worldwide.like other Tamagotchi releases.
The figure features designs inspired by Bandai Namco's virtual pet. This is a 400% version of the collectible, so it will stand at about 11 inches tall (280mm). The head is designed to resemble the kind of blue Tamagotchi shell with a clock face design, while the body features a pattern with different characters like Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, and Oyajitchi. That costs 19,800円 (~$126).
With the Bearbrick Tamagotchi, someone gets a functional virtual pet that features a carrying case and shell with design based on the collectible. The outside case is translucent and is shaped like the bear's head. The case is also translucent, but it features colorful chibi Bearbrick characters around the edges with Mametchi and Kuchipatchi. That is 7,150円 (~$46). In addition to the pre-sale, the site mentioned it will be more widely available on January 10, 2026 in Japan.
Here's how both items look:
The Dai-Tamagotchi-Ten 30th anniversary exhibition will be open until February 2, 2026, and the special Tamagotchi and Bearbrick virtual pet-themed merchandise will be at the Roppongi Museum while supplies last. The most recent major model of the virtual pet is the Tamagotchi Paradise, which is available worldwide.

Nintendo and Hulu shared the final date for support for the Switch Hulu streaming service app. The cut-off date on both Nintendo's support site and Hulu is now February 5, 2026. The Hulu site also noted the application hasn't been available to download since November 6, 2025, but if you already owned it at one point it should still be available to grab from the eShop. [Thanks, Wario64!]
The Hulu Switch streaming app first showed up worldwide in November 2017. It functioned as you expected. If you subscribed to the service and were connected to the internet, you could watch shows on your system. The Switch 2 did not support it.
Nintendo has had a record of its platforms supporting various streaming services. The Switch was the fourth to be compatible with this one. Hulu apps, in the past, also appeared on the 3DS, Wii, and Wii U. Naturally, support for all three also ended. It stopped working on the Wii in January 2019, then on the other two in February 2019.
Hulu streaming app support for the Switch ends on February 5, 2026. There's still no word yet on whether or not we'll see a similar app for the Switch 2 and when one could potentially appear.

Myethos announced that its Gift+ figure of Firefly from Honkai: Star Rail in her Spring Missive costume will debut in September 2026. That will cost ¥7,260 (~$46). It is possible to order direct from Myethos, as the company offers worldwide shipping through Buyee. It isn't showing up on places like Amazon or Big Bad Toy Store yet.
Since this is based on the school uniform costume for Firefly, the pose for this Honkai: Star Rail figure is a bit more casual. She looks like she's skipping, and her right arm holds a bouquet of flowers. Her left holds a school bag. She also has school loafers on to go with her uniform. This figure is 1/8 scale, so it stands at over eight inches tall (206mm). There are no additional pose parts.
Here are the initial photos showing how she looks:
The Spring Missive costume debuted in 3.4 back in July 2025. You must spend real cash to get 1,680 Oneiric Shards to buy it for her, and you can only use it if you own that character in-game.
The Gift+ Honkai: Star Rail Spring Missive Firefly figure will release in Japan in September 2026 before appearing worldwide, and the character's rerun banner is currently live in the game until today. The game is on the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Granzella CEO Takeshi Nagura has published an official press release where he confirmed that the company could not pay its employees due to poor business performance between 2023 and 2025. The CEO also promises to resolve the issue and complete the due payments by the spring season of 2026.
Nagura added that Granzella lacked the necessary capital needed to pay employees due to poor performance from May 2023 until May 2025. Following consultations with the employees, the company deferred their salaries for May, June, and August 2023. It claimed that it managed to complete payments to employees who still remained in the company in May 2025.
Some of the employees had since left Granzella to establish their own companies due to this issue. The outstanding salaries owed to them have yet to be completely resolved, and Nagura promises to finish it by the spring season.
The publication of this press release followed a major news report on the preceding day. The Kanazawa Labor Standards Inspection Office filed charges against Granzella, Gyakuten Games, and [R]studio to the local public prosecutor's office after receiving claims that 46 employees did not receive nine months' worth of salaries between 2023 and 2024, totaling over 18 million yen (or over $115,000 with the exchange rate in early January 2026).
Previously, in October 2022, Granzella announced two new releases for the R-Type series. It managed to release the enhanced shooting game R-Type Final 3 Evolved for PlayStation 5 in March 2023 as scheduled. However, R-Type Tactics I-II Cosmos had a lengthy delay from its original release window of Summer 2023. The latter turn-based strategy game is instead slated for release for the PS5, PS4, Switch 2, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 12, 2026.

If Ichicolumn, Idea Factory International, and Otomate's Temirana: The Lucky Princess and the Tragic Knights is any indication of things to come in otome games in 2026, we are in for a very good year indeed. This is a fantastic visual novel that has it all. The character designs are great. The story is fun. It's both dramatic and hilarious. As for characters, I think the bachelors will easily win folks over, the supporting cast actually has personality, and the heroine is strong and smart. It's just wonderful.
Temirana is a kingdom with, well, a lot of issues. There's a caste system that restricts what certain groups can and can't do. An obsession with luck permeates society. A foretold calamity, which regularly strikes the nation, is happening that year under Dirine's Moon. In the midst of it, the third princess of the royal family comes of age, is expected to form her own knight order, and stay alive despite being hated by her family and cursed. On the plus side, Cecilia has a divine beast named Benetti Astella who is constantly by her side as an advisor and friend and an inexplicable light flashes when she needs to beware of life-threatening danger or should be aware of important individuals. After meeting the prince Josephy, farmer Adel, noble Tobias, blacksmith Milan, and Tobias' servant and former orphan Kiya on the day of the Helis Duelm dueling tournament and seeing light when encountering each of them, she becomes determined to recruit all five to her knight order for the good of the kingdom and her survival.
I would say Temirana is a romantic comedy, but that would do the game a disservice. That is a big part of what's going on here. But it's also a drama, what with the mystery surrounding Cecilia's curse, the gods, and the calamity and dealing with it. Even some of the more humorous elements, such as Toby's whole nearly dying thing, end up with more in-depth explanations. And while Kiya's condition does mean issues with short-term memory, it's handled much more gracefully and respectfully than I expected. Plus Cecilia is a princess who wants to deal with the caste systems and internal diplomacy issue, which come up in Adel and Josephy's routes. So it can be quite serious at times.
However, the different bachelors also feel well-realized. Their personalities are each fantastic and don't really fall into any predetermined "tropes." They aren't just fulfilling conditions like "this is the shota" or "this is the oresama," even though at a glance Kiya or Josephy might look like they are there to fill those spots. The localization is well-handled and each of the love interests' stories feel valid as a result. I did have my favorites, as I really enjoyed time spent with Josephy, Milan, and Toby, but each route is worth pursuing.
I also mentioned earlier that the supporting cast includes some interesting folks as well. Eric and Alison end up assisting with guarding Princess Cecilia, and I loved both of them. The head of the house Nilda, aka surrogate mother for the heroine, is hilarious. The first and second princesses are also complete jerks, but I really appreciated the over-the-top villainy from both of them. It helps with rooting for Cecilia and her knight order.
The fact that we're not just dealing with the romantic element, but also the survival part, also makes Temirana feel a little more involved than the typical otome game. There are times when Cecilia's life and safety will be in danger. There will then be an action you need to take to survive. While this is a standard visual novel, it helps a bit with engagement. Especially since you'll need to think about if the riskier decision is perhaps the optimal choice considering who's with her and the current situation.
Since this is also an Otomate game, all the quality of life otome features are in Temirana. We get a chapter select for jumping into routes. There are flick touch screen control options. A gallery is included with access to the BGM, event CGs, events, and mini dramas from the main menu once they're unlocked.
Temirana: The Lucky Princess and the Tragic Knights ended up being a fantastic otome game that blended romantic comedy with drama. The cast is wonderful. The story it tells is captivating. It avoids the traps of falling into archetypes. There are all the quality of life features we expect from a visual novel. It's a sound game, and I even think people who aren't into otomes may enjoy it.
Temirana: The Lucky Princess and the Tragic Knights will come to the Nintendo Switch outside Japan on January 13, 2026.

Takeshi Masago and Tamami Hiraoka, who play Hinako's father and mother in Silent Hill f, have uploaded a video of themselves wishing people a happy new year in character. You can watch the video on Masago's YouTube channel. [Thanks, Inside Games!]
The video is a little over thirty seconds long. After they both wish the viewer a happy new year, Hiraoka (who plays Kimie, Hinako's mother in Silent Hill f) asks Masago (who plays Kanta, Hinako's father) what his resolution for 2026 is. He pulls out a kitchen knife and says that he wants to return to his job as a chef this year, with Kimie applauding and cheering him on. Kimie then reveals that she's just happy if Kanta and Hinako can live a happy life in the new year. The short then ends with Kimie telling Hinako that they'll be having hamburg steak for dinner, and Kanta yelling Hinako's name.
As of the time of writing, the short has racked up over 118,000 views. Most of the top comments are from people saying that this was the happy ending or true ending they wanted to see. Masago also uploads videos of himself playing through Silent Hill f, with Hiraoka appearing on occasion as a guest. The actresses for Hinako and Rinko have also streamed themselves playing the game.
Silent Hill f is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. You can read our review of it here.

Have you ever run into a hacker in ARC Raiders? The biggest multiplayer game of the moment has an issue with cheating, apparently.
I personally haven't found any cheating players. At least, I've never suspected anyone of being a hacker. But my social media timelines lately have been filled with players complaining about facing hackers in the extraction shooter, and the complaints have been getting more frequent of late.
An explanation for this may be that ARC Raiders uses a sort of "aggression-based matchmaking," according to a recent GamesBeat interview with Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund, so the game will match you up with players based on how likely you are to engage with others.
I'm generally a pretty peaceful Raider (unless I am feeling quite devious), moving about the map trying to do my quests or pick up loot for whatever the current goal may be, so I doubt I'd be the kind of player who'd end up running into a cheater. But for those who sweat it up in trios and chase down "goop" with their friends, or other sweaty streamers, it appears that you're more likely to run into others who are hacking or cheating.
Thankfully, ARC Raiders has a mechanic where you will sometimes be given back loot that you lost if you lost to someone who is found to be cheating in some way. Still, though, according to players like Ninja or Nadeshot, the hacking is out of control.
"My experience on ARC Raiders over the last week has been hell," Nadeshot said in a recent lengthy post on X/Twitter. "Just to be clear, I love this game and think it's already moved in to my personal top 10 all time. But the egregious amount of cheating genuinely might be worse than peak Call of Duty. I'm not trying to bring negativity to the game because I know this type of dialogue can spread on socials like a disease but I genuinely cannot get through an entire raid without a Steam profile that is level 0 or an account that has multiple game bans and VAC bans on record."
Is this just streamers whining to whine, or is there a legit hacker problem in ARC Raiders? According to one commenter on the YouTube video below from Ninja, the content creators are not alone in these specific struggles.
"Thank god you're making a video on this," they said. "The game is literally unplayable if you're half decent cause you get queued with hackers at least 1/3 games."
Have you seen any cheaters in your ARC Raiders games? Let me know in the comments below, because I'm curious to see if any issue is as widespread as some are making it out to be, or if it's just a loud minority on socials.
Update on Jan. 7 at 12:45pm CT: Shroud has echoed the sentiments of other streamers, saying the hacking situation is "really really bad" and opining he may take a break until something is fixed.

Where to find Festive Cocoa Beans in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Festive Cocoa Beans can be found on the ground around a red and white picnic blanket on The Winter Floating Festival event island. They're an event-exclusive variant of regular Cocoa Beans, so you must be on the special island to find them.
This ingredient is tough to find even when you know what you're looking for, so if you're having trouble tracking them down, here's a step-by-step breakdown of how to locate them.
How often do Festive Cocoa Beans respawn in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
New Festive Cocoa Beans spawn about every five minutes. Up to five Festive Cocoa Beans can be present at any given time, so to make room for more to appear, you'll need to ensure there are fewer than five already present.
If you want to farm lots of this resource at once, equip two foraging Companions and leave your game open while standing by the blanket. Whenever new Festive Cocoa Beans spawn, your loyal critter friends will grab them for you, ensuring fresh ones spawn in frequently.
Festive Cocoa Beans are a crucial item to have lots of if you want to complete the entire The Winter Floating Festival event. You need them to brew all Festive Hot Cocoa recipes, which can then be used to feed the Frosty Rabbit and complete the Chocolate Fountain puzzle.

There's a strange, massive Rabbit on the loose, and this creature must be fed to solve one of the key event puzzles in Disney Dreamlight Valley's The Winter Floating Festival. The Frosty Rabbit has strange tastes, though, so it can be tricky to actually get done.
When you come across this animal, there's a good chance you'll have no idea how to actually satiate its tastes. If you're stumped by this task, here's how to feed The Winter Floating Festival Frosty Rabbit in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Table of contents
Where to find Frosty Rabbit in The Winter Floating Festival in Disney Dreamlight Valley
The Frosty Rabbit is a massive creature that can be found hopping all around The Winter Floating Festival island. This creature doesn't have a fixed location like all other puzzles do. Instead, they're constantly on the move, which can make tracking them down rather tough.
This Rabbit is a large, light blue animal with some small frosty accents. It's a larger version of the critter Companion that was previously obtainable in the Frost and Fairies Star Path event. Although the Rabbit moves around frequently, they are rather large, making it relatively easy to pinpoint their location if you stand still and tilt the camera around.
Tracking down and feeding this creature is a similar process to feeding the Ghostly Zero Fox critter in The Haunted Floating Festival event, so if you participated in that one, you should have a solid idea of what to do here.
What does the Frosty Rabbit eat in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
The special giant Frosty Rabbit enjoys specific variants of Hot Cocoa. This is different from the usual favorite food of Rabbits back in the classic valley, as those ones enjoy Carrots. The desired Hot Cocoa drink changes on a daily basis, too, so feeding this critter can be quite difficult.
Where to find food for Frosty Rabbit in Disney Dreamlight Valley
The food you need for the Frosty Rabbit cannot be found around the island and instead must be cooked. There are three red chests hidden around the event island, each of which contains one of the Festive Hot Cocoa recipes.
To make all of the Festive Hot Cocoa drinks, you'll need to obtain Festive Cocoa Beans.
What is the daily Hot Cocoa in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
The Frosty Rabbit's desired Hot Cocoa beverage of the day is displayed on a small sparkling menu close to the purple cottage on the event island. It blends in with the scenery quite well, so if you're having trouble figuring out what the daily beverage actually is, here's the complete schedule for feeding this creature.
