Modifiers are like upgrades in MIO: Memories in Orbit. They grant various effects and abilities to little Mio, like displaying enemy health bars or increasing her defenses. They're definitely worth equipping, but before you can do so, you have to find them first.
Some Modifiers can be bought, but most of them must be found. They're scattered around the ship, located in hard-to-reach places or tucked inside chests. You can only have a certain number of them equipped at a time based on the amount of Modifier slots you have.

Where to find every Modifier
Disclaimer: This table is a work in progress. We will add more Modifiers to it as we find them.
How to equip Modifiers
As mentioned earlier, only a limited number of Modifiers can be equipped at a time in MIO: Memories in Orbit. This number is entirely dependent on how many Modifier slots you have open, and how many slots a Modifier costs. Resources Shortage, for example, costs 20 slots, so if you only have 15 available, you'll need to first unequip another Modifier. You start with a very small amount of slots to begin with, but you can increase that amount by purchasing Modifier Extensions from Mel at Dr. Halyn's Restoration Bench for one Old Core and 200 Nacre.
To equip Modifiers, you'll have to head to one of the many Overseers around the map. Select the "Modifier Centre" option, and you'll be taken to the screen where you can see all your Modifiers and how many slots you have available.
The number of slots you have open are shown to the left of the screen, under "Allocation Matrix." Available ones are represented by the dark boxes with light gold outlines. Any gold box means those slots have been filled by an equipped Modifier. Gray slots, as you might have already guessed, mean those are currently unavailable and cannot be used to equip more mods.

You'll come across a ton of locked doors early on in your playthrough of MIO: Memories in Orbit. Many of them can only be opened from the other side, but some of them, like the door to the right of the Nexus Overseer, require items like the Silo Access Badge.
The Silo Access Badge opens the door to—yup, you guessed it—the Silo. This area houses a Crystalliser, which turns Nacre Droplets into crystals that can be used to buy Modifiers from Mel and won't disappear when you die. This makes reaching the Silo (and Haven, the region just past it where you get the glide ability) an early priority on your list of to-dos in your journey. But before you can get there, you'll have to first go through the trouble of finding the Silo Access Badge.
Silo Access Badge location in MIO: Memories in Orbit
The Silo Access Badge can be found in a part of the map called Halyn's Boudoir, right above where Mel sets up shop to the right of the elevator on L0: Workshop. For those of you who haven't yet met Mel, I've marked the location of the badge on the map below to help you find it. It's fairly close to Shii, who maintains the pond just above the Nexus.
To get to the badge, you'll need to take the elevator to L2: Apartments. Head to the left and follow the path by jumping up on the broken lights and climbing to the floor above. Keep going left, and you'll reach the icy area called the Dwellings. Now venture all the way to the left, and you'll find a locked bronze gate with a friendly robot standing outside. Double back slightly and you'll find a fissure in the floor that will take you down a level.
If you keep following this path, you'll eventually come to the room to the left of where the elevator stops on L1: The Spine—except it won't be there, since we left it at the Apartments. Instead, there will be an empty hole in the ground that you'll have to jump down—but don't worry; there's no fall damage in MIO: Memories in Orbit.
When you jump down the elevator shaft, try to position Mio to the right of the tunnel. As soon as the tunnel opens up, jump in the air and move to the right. You'll land on a ledge with a bed and a workshop in the background. On the floor at your feet will be a shiny object. Pick it up, and you'll be greeted with a short description for the Silo Access Badge.
Now all that's left is to take it back to the door by the Nexus Overseer and see what's on the other side. And luckily for us, we won't have to travel far to do so. Either jump through the window on the right or jump down to the left and head towards the Nexus.

Nothing's worse than fumbling around in the dark. Okay, maybe it's not completely dark in MIO: Memories in Orbit, but without a map at your disposal, it might as well be.
Luckily for players, there is a map in MIO: Memories in Orbit, but you won't be able to open it right away. For the first leg of your journey, you'll be without one entirely, which essentially means you'll have to rely on the ol' noggin for finding your way around the desolate ship. Eventually, though, you will unlock the map, but it's going to take a bit of farming first.

How to unlock the map in MIO: Memories in Orbit
To unlock the map in MIO: Memories in Orbit, you need to give Shii Nacre Droplets to fill the pond. Shii can be found just above the Nexus at the starting area of the game once you've made your way through the tutorial.
Nacre is the currency you get from destroying hostile enemies or piles of junk, and it's represented by the top pentagon icon in the top right corner of your screen. There are two main ways of giving Shii your Nacre: either dying or directly handing it over. If you die, you respawn at the Nexus and all of the Nacre Droplets you've collected automatically go to the pond. If you'd rather skip that painful step, you can simply speak to Shii and donate your droplets to the pond instead.
After filling the pond a bit, you can open the map by choosing the "Look through his eyes" dialogue option when you speak to Shii. A map will pop up, showing all the places you've traveled, as well as icons marking any attunement stations you've encountered thus far. Nothing is clearly labeled, though, so it's not an entirely helpful diagram—though seeing where you haven't been yet is incredibly useful for progressing in a metroidvania.
After first unlocking the map, the only time you can open it is when you're here at the pond next to Shii. That means if you're out and about and you get lost, you're out of luck. You'll have to either stumble your way through your confusion or trace your steps back to the safety of the pond to see where you need to go next.
If you donate even more Nacre to the pond, however, you'll rejuvenate him, and you can take the map with you wherever you go. This makes reading the map even easier since it shows you exactly where you are—unless you're in a new area, which won't update your map until you visit an Overseer. It takes a few hundred Nacre to restore Shii, but I recommend making this a priority on your to-do list because of how beneficial it is to your exploration, so you'd best get out there and start farming enemies.
Can you fast travel in MIO: Memories in Orbit?
It may not seem like it at first, but there is in fact fast travel in MIO: Memories in Orbit. You won't be able to do so, though, until you've mended the Torn Overseers for each region. There's one for each region, and when you find and mend them, they'll then fly off to set locations where you can interact with them, just like you would at the one by Shii.
When you interact with them, you'll have the option to view the map. On this map, you can then select other Overseers you've mended. This is the only way you can fast travel; you won't have access to this mechanic when you open the map from the menu while you're out and about.

The vast majority of the ship in MIO: Memories in Orbit will initially be closed off. You'll need to explore the Vessel to open locked doors from the other side, or in the case of the Aviaries, you'll have to find keys or items to unlock them.
In MIO: Memories in Orbit, the Aviaries are located above Shii, where you get the map, and to the right of Estragon the Librarian and Noden the Spine. As is the case with the Silo Access Badge, you need the Aviaries Passepartout to gain access to this area. Luckily for players, the item isn't too far from where the locked door is, but you will need to put in a bit of effort before you can add it to your inventory.

Aviaries Passepartout location
The Aviaries Passepartout can be found in the Feral Undergrowth behind the Flora boss, located on the map below. You have to beat the boss before you can get to the Aviaries Passepartout, which will appear as a glowing object on the ground to the right of where Flora was.
As you approach the location, a giant pink flower will spawn. This flower is Flora, the Sentient Pearltrap. Flora will stay rooted to the right side of the screen, and most of its attacks involve close-range jabs. I defeated this boss on my first try by staying up in the air using jumps and grappling to the nearby hook whenever I ran out of airtime.
How to use the Aviaries Passepartout in MIO: Memories in Orbit
Once you've picked up the Aviaries Passepartout, it'll automatically be added to your inventory. You can then head to the door, which is marked on the map below, to open it. I reached it from the inside of the Aviaries by travelling through the Bell Tower, but you can also get there by taking the elevator closest to Mel to the L1: The Spine floor, and heading to the right.
Obviously, if you reach the door from inside the Aviaries, it won't open a "new" area. Opening this door, however, makes getting to the Aviaries that much easier if you have yet to unlock fast travel. After all, who really wants to spend all their time going back and forth through an area they've already been before?
