PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 6:34 PM Black Myth: Wukong launched earlier today, adapting the classic story of Journey to the West to a soulslike action game in the style of Lies of P, Elden Ring, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Lords of the Fallen. The game, created by Chinese studio Game Science, has been highly anticipated in the years since it was first announced, and that anticipation has paid off with an absolutely enormous player base. Still, the gargantuan player count that it attracted on PC recently decreased by a huge amount, demonstrating the impact of time zones and audience demographics on Steam's charts. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 6:32 PM I don't know about you but one of my purest joys in gaming is leaping over stuff. From Mirror's Edge to Dying Light, mantling and running and jumping and landing is always brilliant and is something gaming absolutely nails. That's why I'm looking forward to the newly-announced standalone entry in the latter series; Dying Light The Beast. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 5:41 PM Overwatch 2 hasn't had nearly the impact of its predecessor so far, but that doesn't mean its creators have given up on it. In the years since its launch, Blizzard Entertainment has continued to work on the online shooter, attempting to make it a serious competitor in a genre currently dominated by games like Valorant, Apex Legends, and Rainbow Six Siege. With the launch of World of Warcraft's The War Within expansion in just a few days, the enormously popular MMORPG's 20th anniversary fast approaching, and Warcraft in general coming up on 30 years since its first game, Blizzard is planning to combine two of its most popular series with a special skin. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 5:38 PM The soulslike genre doesn't show any signs of slowing down in the near future. Today saw the launch of Black Myth: Wukong and, earlier this summer, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree continued the success of the original game through a massive and well received expansion. Now, a stylish new addition to the loose category of action RPG game hybrids is drawing closer thanks to further information on The First Berserker: Khazan, a new soulslike with a blood soaked cartoon aesthetic set in the Dungeon & Fighter universe whose launch window was just announced during Gamescom's Opening Night Live. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 5:00 PM If you're reading this preview, it's likely that you already know what Civilization is on some level. A 4X game encompassing the entirety of human history may sound like a bit of a stretch, but that's exactly what Sid Meier and the rest of the team aimed for when creating the first - and every subsequent - Civilization game. I think it's fair to say they've done a decent job at it. MORE FROM PCGAMESN: The best 4X games on PC, The best strategy games on PC, Civ 7 wishlist |
PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:51 PM Gamescom Opening Night Live has been bookended with two big surprises - while Borderlands 4 kicked things off, a new Mafia game wrapped things up - but it's not the Mafia 4 that you'd expect. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:22 PM In a shock to absolutely no-one, I was an emo kid growing up. While my Catholic all-girls high school forbade the use of fluorescent dyes and facial piercings, my weekends were spent perfecting my cheap eyeliner (quite the task when you have a tremor) and haunting Glasgow city center. While you'll be happy to hear I no longer spend my days skulking around indoor malls, I've never quite let go of that gothic aesthetic - it's never been just a phase. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:00 PM When it came to choosing a developer for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, I firmly believe MachineGames was the right team for the job. No-one has a better track record than the Wolfenstein developer when it comes to punching Nazis, or tracking down mysterious and ancient artifacts in elaborate ways to keep them out of the hands of said Nazis. Having now seen a demonstration of the new Indiana Jones game ahead of its reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live, I can say that MachineGames has absolutely nailed the tone - but I'll need to see more before I'm convinced this is a truly great game. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:58 PM He's not saying that it will be his final game, but as Peter Molyneux talks about Masters of Albion, there's certainly a sense of 'one last job' - a swansong and a homecoming that combines all the greatest works of his career into a culminating statement. The interface, a supple and intuitive hand that you can use to pick up villagers and assemble buildings, comes right from Black and White. The world and its name owe their inspirations to Fable, and the third-person combat (more on that later) whispers of Dungeon Keeper. Of course, just like Populous, Molyneux's breakout hit from 1989, this is also a strategy and god game. Absent is the top-hatted financial manager from Theme Park, and Theme Hospital's nasally receptionist, but the band is otherwise back together. As well as his best-known games, Masters of Albion reunites some of Molyneux's closest creative collaborators. |
PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:57 PM What is the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle release date? Announced back in January 2021, not much was known about the upcoming Indiana Jones game apart from Machine Games, the developers of the modern Wolfenstein games, was handling it. Given Machine Games's affinity for blasting up Nazis, this pairing feels like a natural fit for cinema's greatest archaeologist. We finally got a glimpse of the action-adventure game at Xbox Developer Direct 2024, showing off one of the most anticipated upcoming games set to launch later this year. There's quite a lot to unpack in the presentation, including information about the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle release date, gameplay, and what to expect from the story. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:39 PM It was only a short while ago that we got our first glimpse of Civilization 7, the much anticipated latest entry to the long running series. As with any fresh instalment to classics from the strategy genre—games like Homeworld 3, Company of Heroes 3, Total War: Pharaoh, or Age of Empires 4—there's a lot of excitement surrounding the next Civilization, especially regarding when it's set to come out. The upcoming multiplayer game has been shown off through both alpha and beta tests, garnering buzz in the process and hopes that it may be a new avenue for the kind of online play currently dominated by games like Overwatch 2, Valorant, and Team Fortress 2. The likes of Gray Zone Warfare, Arena Breakout Infinite, and Exoborne are all looking to replicate the success of forefathers like Escape From Tarkov. One that I've always been incredibly curious about is ARC Raiders from The Finals developer Embark Studios, and after a long time underground, it's finally resurfaced. I'm pleased to say that, after attending a recent preview event, it's looking like one of the more interesting extraction games, but it comes with one very big twist - when it drops next year, it will no longer be free to play. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:06 PM When is the Civilization 7 release date? For over 20 years, the Civilization series has captivated PC gamers with its intricate strategy, forcing players to think about more than just conquering their neighbors. Sometimes, the best victory is by being diplomatically savvy while secretly building massive cultural wonders and hoping nobody notices - especially the nuke-hungry Gandhi. Now that we've had confirmation from Firaxis that Civ 7 is officially in development and the logo of the game briefly appeared on the official 2K website, we've been gathering as much information as possible about the next installment of the strategy game series. Bethesda has already confirmed the space game's first DLC: Shattered Space. While we don't know if there will ever be a Starfield sequel, we do know the world will be broadened with expansions, perhaps similar to Skyrim or Fallout 4's content packs. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 5:49 PM What is the Dune Awakening release date? They who control the Spice, control the universe. Anyone who has even briefly rubbed shoulders with the blockbuster book-and-now-profitable-movie series Dune will know that spice, and the desert planet of Arrakis, are central to many stories in that universe. And now, with Dune Awakening, it'll be central to yours, too. Dune Awakening is an open-world, crafting, survival MMO. That is a lot of descriptors, but Dune Awakening plans on merging them all, creating an experience for players to rival that of any established character in the sandy franchise. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 2:54 PM When is the Path of Exile 2 release date? Path of Exile 2 has now evolved from its initial role as effectively a large expansion to become its own full game, with completely new mechanics, classes, and an entirely fresh story and campaign. Like the first game, PoE2 places an emphasis on deep and nuanced build crafting, letting you put together a powerful arsenal of skills and loot to blast your way through thousands of enemies across the maps of Wraeclast. Path of Exile 2 is the standalone sequel to the first ARPG from New Zealand-based studio Grinding Gear Games. Built by a team of Diablo 2 fans who decided to make their own take on the ARPG genre and officially released as a free PC game in 2013 following several years in beta, Path of Exile rose to become one of the best games like Diablo and continues to update with regular seasonal leagues. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:00 PM One thing I like to see in a game series is when it tries something new, or at least dips a toe into newness. PCGamesN Tuesday, August 20, 2024 2:31 PM There's something so special about creating your own virtual home in a videogame. I, for one, live in a rented apartment, so I can't put anything on the walls, or make drastic changes to the very beige decor. While, sure, I've maybe broken a couple of rules, it still doesn't quite feel like my home. So, to combat that, I've spent hours creating quaint little abodes in Disney Dreamlight Valley, customizing them to the nth degree. Yet I admittedly grow pretty tired of games like DDV because of the lack of, well, action, so when I saw Lynked: Banner of the Spark, I was instantly intrigued. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 6:13 PM Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has been delayed yet again, pushing the troubled RPG into the first half of 2025. Publishers Paradox Interactive and developers The Chinese Room say the delay will allow them to continue to polish the game, respond to feedback, and expand on its story. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 5:24 PM Arc Raiders was announced back in 2021 as a free-to-play co-op third-person shooter, and has been delayed several times since. That's partly because Embark Studios' other in-development game, The Finals, progressed faster than planned and stole its momentum. It's also because it was re-tooled at some point as a PvPvE extraction shooter. Now it's back again, aiming for release next year, and it's been re-tooled a little more: it's no longer free-to-play. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:51 PM Here's the news: there's a new Mafia game, it's called Mafia: The Old Country, and it's set in 20th century Sicily rather than in America as per the previous three games in the series. That's about all we know, but hop below and you'll find a trailer. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:13 PM Oh, and new Indiana Jones And The Great Circle trailer! Great. I've been looking forward to a nice, juicy chunk of extended gameplay. You know, something to really convey the flow of the game, rather than the admittedly impressive but nonetheless very fragmented snippets we've gotten so far. Now to sit back and…oh, wait. Hang on. It's just actor Troy Baker telling me about all the great acting he'll be doing. It is great, by the way. He's doing a fantastic job. Maybe just, you know, a crumb of acknowledgement or elucidation over the whole 'interactivity' part? Anyway, don't mind me. I'm just an old fool who likes to press buttons. And, to be fair, it's not like Machinegames don't have a great track record. Anyway, here's some good news: The game releases December 9th this year. Have a release date trailer. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:00 PM Little Nightmares DNA runs strong in Tarsier Studios' new game. So much so, in fact, that I'd assumed the trailer I watched during an online preview event last week was for a new entry in the horror cinematic-platformer series, right up until the name Reanimal appeared on the screen - shortly followed by a snippet of voiced dialogue. It's not just the horror setting, but the Grimm's fairytale threat, the distorted adults-made-monsters through the trauma-tinged lens of a child's imagination. A long-limbed man riding a bicycle in a threadbare suit chases children down an alley. A gangly, bowler-hatted pursuer scuttles down a long table like a spider. It's familiar enough territory, at least at first glance. But when Tarsier have a body of work subconsciously scarred by phantasms this vivid, recurring nightmares are just as potent. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:00 PM There are unexpected things in life, like when one of the recipes in my Gousto box (basically Hello Fresh) didn't come packed with a key ingredient: a single red pepper. Devastating, especially since it's only ever happened to me once. Anyway, this is a long but no less meaningful segue to a game from the Far: Changing Tides and Lone Sails devs Okomotive that's just been announced at this year's Geoffcom show. It's called Herdling and it's nothing to do with sailing across a decaying universe, but very much to do with alpine expeditions and friendly beasts. Very unexpected. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 4:00 PM MachineGames have made a decent living as the creators of satirical alternate histories in which you messily murder Nazis using mighty double-handfuls of shotgun. There are Nazis to fight in Indiana Jones And The Great Circle - a globe-trotting, tomb-robbing adventure featuring a Lost Ark-era Harrison Ford - but as you'd expect from a Lucasfilm adaptation, there's rather less of the bloodshed. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:55 PM Peter Molyneux is once again back from the beyond, and he's making a new god sim. The game in question is Masters Of Albion, which now has a page on Steam. In development at Molyneux's 2012-founded studio 22cans, it looks like a mix of Populous and Black & White with knocked-together, toylike visuals, and a loose tower-defence format whereby monsters attack your villages at night. Here's the first trailer. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:30 PM Fine, that was slightly mean of me. There's clearly at least fifteen people still playing Starfield, and Bethesda are today rewarding their commitment with a free buggy named the Rev-8. Today! It actually looks pretty nifty. With it, you'll be able to hop, jump, and skip the tedious ballache that was hoofing it across the RPG's needlessly large planets. Here's a looksie: |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:20 PM Firaxis and 2K Games have slapped a release date on Civilization 7, the latest in the obscenely venerable empire management series. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 3:05 PM ARPG (not to be confused with action RPG, the comments inform me) Path Of Exile 2 will release in early access November 15th, 2024. Grinding Gear Games have been set on a November window for a while now, but this is the first time they've nailed down a date, and possibly clicked on it a bunch of times to show how serious they are. Do a game related verb I can't accurately name because I never played past that beach at the beginning of the first game, and do it in the general direction of the trailer below. Watch it. Just watch it. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 2:54 PM There's a new instalment of Supermassive's Dark Pictures anthology series on the way, and it's set in Outer Space, wherein you'll find the Darkest Pictures of all. Out in 2025, Directive 8020 is the story of the good ship Cassiopeia, a human colony vessel that is infiltrated by Something Icky. The Something Icky is capable of mimicking humans. So that'd be a bit like Alien and a bit like The Thing, then. Sorry, human colonists! Directive 8020 was teased at the end of the last Dark Pictures instalment, 2022's The Devil in Me. A trailer also leaked back in November 2022. Now, we have an official announcement video. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 2:43 PM Update: Oh, I missed this. "To show appreciation for the community who patiently waited for the DLC, Techland will be offering Dying Light: The Beast at no extra cost to all owners of the Dying Light 2 Stay Human Ultimate Edition, delivering a full standalone adventure instead of just a DLC." That's nice! This seems like an odd one. I'm only tangentially familiar with the Dying Light games, but I was under the impression that the model here was releasing a single game, then updating and expanding it for years. Whether standalone adventure Dying Light: The Beast represents an attempt to course correct after Dying Light 2's mixed reception, then, I'm not entirely sure. But if nothing else, it does share something in common with all the other adverts at Gamescom tonight: it is a game that exists, and will presumably be playable at some point. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 2:29 PM Activision have just screened an abbreviated video of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign level "Most Wanted", in which you and a buddy infiltrate a US fundraiser to save returning character Adler from Bad Dudes. Good news, people who like Call Of Duty: this looks like Call Of Duty. It's got a homing knife, an exploding remote-controlled car and a big chap in full face armour with an overcompensatory minigun. Catch the full video below. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 20, 2024 2:27 PM The trailers of Gamescom 2024 want to be here with you, explained Keighley in his opening monologue. They are not directed at you. They are with you. That's lovely. Thanks videogames. And if - as we surely must - we judge the eagerness of these adverts to spend time with us by how quickly they appear on our screens, then FPS sequel Borderlands 4 surely loves us the most. Do we love it back? Who knows. But it does exist, and it isn't using a subtitle. That's got to count for something, right? |

A new manga trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen has been released, paying tribute to the series' characters as the story nears its conclusion. The video, available on the official Shonen Jump YouTube channel, features a mix of iconic scenes and heartwarming moments from the manga.
You can view the official trailer video below:
The trailer, presented as an edited motion comic, culminates in a face-off between Sukuna and Itadori Yuuji, highlighting the dramatic stakes the series has taken on as it approaches it's final five chapters. In addition to the manga trailer, Shueisha announced they are offering 245 chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen for free on the Jump+ app and Zeblack platform. This initiative allows readers to relive key moments or catch up on the series as it heads towards its conclusion.
This trailer follows a similar style to a previous teaser released for the third season of the anime, which focused on the Culling Game arc. That teaser used stylized manga animation and video editing to give a preview of the upcoming anime adaptation of the arc.
With only five chapters left until the finale, the trailer serves as a poignant reminder of the journey the characters have been on and the challenges that still lie ahead.

2K and Firaxis have revealed more information about Sid Meier's Civilization VII at gamescom 2024. After first publishing a teaser trailer at Summer Game Fest 2024, the companies revealed the release date and gameplay details for the new game at the European gaming event.
A new trailer for Civilization VII appeared first during the gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live stream. It showed a quick montage of in-engine footage, including buildings from various civilizations and units from different ages. The main highlight of this trailer was the release date announcement.
The new game will be available on February 11, 2025. While prior entries used to appear first on PCs with consoles like Nintendo Switch getting them later on, this trailer's ending segment hints that Civilization VII will be available simultaneously on not only PCs but also the PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox platforms.
Soon after that, Firaxis held an official gameplay showcase stream dedicated to the game on the series' official YouTube channel. The new game will have civilizations tied to each of the three different eras, and the leader character the player chooses is no longer tied to their original civilization.
For example, while Hatshepsut is originally related to Egypt, the player can choose to have her lead the Aksum civilization instead in the Antiquity Age. As the game progresses in age, the player will have to choose a different civilization for Hatshepsut to lead, such as Songhai or Mongolia in the Exploration Age, and Buganda in the Modern Age.
2K has also updated the game's Steam page with additional bonus editions that provide both in-game content at launch and post-launch DLC that 2K will release in the future. People who have pre-purchased any edition of the game—including the standard version before release—can get the native American civilization Shawnee and Tecumseh as a playable leader.
Sid Meier's Civilization VII will be available for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One on February 11, 2025.

A re-release version of Sanctuary, an artbook to celebrate 40 years' worth of artwork from Inomata Mutsumi, will come out on August 21, 2024. The book will be available via Amazon and will cost 4070 JPY ($27.80). [Thanks, Famitsu!]
The book contains 256 pages and over 2000 pieces of work from various genres that Inomata worked on in her lifetime. This includes anime, games, novels, and magazines. It serves as a chronicle that looks back on her career, which heavily focuses on designs for sci-fi and fantasy characters.
Inomata Mutsumi died on March 10, 2024, though the news broke on March 18, 2024. Her career started in 1979 and lasted until she died. She was known for her work on the Tales series, including Destiny, Graces, Hearts, Innocence, Xillia, Berseria, and Zestiria. She also worked on the animation for Urusei Yatsura and City Hunter, as well as designed for the My-HiME and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED franchise. Her art style included the usage of watercolors, and her characters tended to have large eyes and slender figures, making them look like they came from a shojo manga.
Sanctuary, which collects artwork from Inomata Mutsumi over the past 40 years in a single artbook, will come out on August 21, 2024.

Ever since The Sims 4 came out in 2014 (oh my goodness...), I've been adamant that The Sims 2 and 3 remain the superior titles in the series, especially once you start using core mods to improve performance or quality of life. For those who want to get their life simulation fix but The Sims 4 is broken or too boring, I highly suggest playing The Sims 3 instead!
Those who know anything about The Sims 3 may know that Electronic Arts and Maxis did not optimize this game very well. There are a lot of reasons for this. One reason is that it's an open-world 32-bit game. This can lead to your files bloating up and causing the game to crash to desktop. The Sims 3 is also notorious in that the game does not naturally cap your FPS, which can overheat your graphics card if you're not careful. Some of these mods are not mere recommendations. They're straight up essential for the overall health of your computer.
Though not a mod, I recommend using MATY's FPS Limiter and 3Booter. This will help to keep your frame rate at the game's default 30. If you're like me and you're using a NVIDIA graphics card, you can also go into your control panel and cap The Sims 3's frame rate at 30 through there.
Here are some of the best mods for The Sims 3 in 2024
The Sims 3 is readily available on the Windows PC.

Nintendo has announced the opening date for the Nintendo Museum while launching its official website. People will be able to visit the new museum starting from October 2, 2024.
This opening date announcement followed the Nintendo Direct stream that exclusively featured the museum earlier on the same day. Nintendo first revealed the date in that program. The whole museum will also have English language support for foreign visitors who are not well-versed in Japanese.
This museum will not only feature a collection of Nintendo's consoles and game products, including the Hanafuda flower cards that the company made shortly after it was established in 1889. The facility will also have interactive physical games and workshops based on the company's creations, ranging from digital Hanafuda and Karuta games to a Super Mario-themed shooting gallery. The Hatena Burger cafe and the Bonus Stage merchandise shop will complete the facility.
Nintendo will restrict access to the museum with a limited number of tickets. People who want to visit the museum must first have a Nintendo Account that they also use on the Switch. Most of the tickets will be available via a lottery drawing, but Nintendo will also open sales for the remaining tickets if there are cancellations.
People with other nationalities other than Japan can also purchase tickets for the museum, but they can only pay with credit cards. The museum's staff will also only accept passports to confirm the identities of foreign nationals.
Here are the ticket prices for the Nintendo Museum, which are grouped by age:

Square Enix released a Chrissy Costanza music video for the FFXIV "Give It All" Arcadion Raid song, as well as shared the official English lyrics for the track. The song debuted alongside the 7.01 Dawntrail Raid AAC Light-heavyweight Tier.
In FFXIV, you hear the song "Give It All" during AAC Light-heavyweight M4. The Orchestrion Roll for the track is also a basic rarity reward from a Treasure Coffer from the fight. The idea is that Wicked Thunder is "performing" the track. In reality, it is a The Primals song with Costanza providing the vocals. Previously, the company shared the track following its release. However, now the additional video and lyrics are also available.
Here are the full, official "Give It All" FFXIV Arcadion Raid song lyrics:
Next, here's the "Give It All" music video from YouTube, which features gameplay footage from FFXIV, Solution Nine, and the Arcadion Raid. Note there are spoilers for all the AAC Light-heavyweight Tier fights in the video below, and not just the Wicked Thunder one.
Both standard and Savage versions of the AAC Light-heavyweight Tier Arcadion fight are available in the game. The more difficult version of the Raid debuted at the end of July 2024 in patch 7.05.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Arcadian Raid series are part of the Dawntrail patches.

A release date for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has been announced. The game will be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S on December 9, 2024, plus a PS5 release in 2025.
The release date for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was announced alongside a new trailer led by Troy Baker. The ubiquitous voice actor will be portraying the famous archaeologist in the game. In the trailer, we got to see snippets of gameplay, including the combat making use of brawling, shooting and Indy's iconic whip. Some puzzle gameplay was also shown off, including the use of photgraphy to help solve these challenges.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was first announced in a teaser by developer MachineGames in 2021. The game initally appeared to be an Xbox exclusive following Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda, and since been shown off in Xbox presentations such as the January 2024 Developer Direct and Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024. It is the latest of a long line of Indiana Jones games, from LucasArts point-and-click adventures in the 1980s to the Lego Indiana Jones games of more recent years.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will release on Xbox Series X/S and PC on December 9, 2024. It will also release on PS5 in Spring 2025.

During GamesCom 2024, HoYoVerse released a new trailer for Honkai: Star Rail, teasing new character Feixiao and the upcoming Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works collaboration. More details on both will appear closer to the release date.
You can watch the Honkai: Star Rail GamesCom trailer here:
It's also available in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
The trailer starts with Guinaifen describing Feixiao's exploits on the battlefield, though she can't really remember everything. Feixiao actually appears to defeat a borisin about to attack, but she's just asking for directions. Then, the trailer temporarily shifts to an anime style to show Pom-Pom, Caelus, March, and Dan Heng on the Astral Express. They hear a kind of explosion noise and though you can't see who appeared on the train, it's most likely to be EMIYA between his voice and the line he says.
The Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works collaboration event will come out some time in Summer 2025. At this point in time, we don't know if the crossover will only be skins, or if we will actually get a playable character like how Aloy appeared in Genshin Impact. As for Feixiao, she will be a 5-star Wind Hunt character. Before her debut though, we have her subordinate Jiaoqiu coming out in the second phase of Version 2.4. He'll be a 5-star Fire Nihility who specializes in a unique DoT.
Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Feixiao will appear as a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail Versioin 2.5.

There is always an intriguing risk when it comes to adapting an existing movie or TV show into video game. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes an even greater risk with developer MachineGames introducing its own standalone story in the Lucasfilm saga. It certainly captures the cinematic feel of the movies, but it still has question marks regarding gameplay.
My recent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle preview for Gamescom 2024 was notably strictly hands-off. I had the chance to check out 30 minutes of particularly edited gameplay footage across different areas with narration. Since this was totally hands-off, it is hard to say exactly how this first-person action adventure game will play.
That said, I walked away from the hands-off preview impressed by the visuals and spectacular presentation of the Great Circle, but uncertain about its gameplay. If there is one element I am certain about this game, it is the sheer scale and diversity of the various missions players will experience. In the short time, I saw clips of adventures in Vatican City, the Himalayan's, and Egypt. Every location looks stunning in-engine and grandiose.
If these sections are anything to go by, these iconic and beautiful locales will also have the adventurous nature of the movies as well. Indiana Jones, played by Troy Baker, encountered plenty of traps and thrilling scripted sequences. These were extremely fun to watch, especially from the fascinating first-person perspective.
However, when it comes to the actual gameplay, especially in movement and combat, I am less thrilled. The movement, at times, seemed clunky and a bit too slow. This could be due to the slower nature of the edited footage, emphasizing the detail of the environments. However, I'm not confident in this, mainly because of the combat.
Fights seem to generally happen in a one-on-one nature, at least from what I saw. There are ranged weaponry and fighting, but I mostly saw up close and personal gameplay. Jones would swap blows with enemies but the animations seemed a bit too slow. I wasn't particularly excited by the slow pace of the fights. There is a chance the actual end result will be smoother or be faster, but I'm not impressed with that part yet.
Even still, I admire the exploration aspect of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This is where the first-person perspective really shines from my short hands-off demo. MachineGames put a lot of thought into recreating these 1930s settings and, fortunately, it shows. Missions often have large open areas to explore, with merchants and even optional side missions to complete. Seeing the hustle, bustle, and many NPCs roaming around a market had me interested in spending time there. In some ways, these locations remind me of the historical adherence and detail of an Assassin's Creed title.
This extends the player's time with the gameplay beyond the typical scripted dungeon delving and crypt exploring main missions. Everything about these massive scripted sequences evoke feelings of watching the movies. I especially enjoyed the pit Jones fell into towards the end of the demo. This led to a creepier moment with scorpions and other creatures in the dark, which teased some thrilling sequences in the title. While I do have some concerns about linearity and lack of player input in these moments, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle feels incredibly cinematic.
This movie-like quality and feel comes down to the story and characters. I only have bits and pieces of the story so far, but Troy Baker nails the voice of Indiana Jones as best as one can without getting Harrison Ford himself. In the end, this makes Indiana Jones and the Great Circle seem like a faithful cinematic game adaptation of the beloved movies. While it remains to be seen if it plays as well as it looks, there is some hope for Indiana Jones fans.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will release for Xbox Series X/S and PC on December 9, 2024 and in Spring 2025 for PS5.
