Following a stellar reaction from fans of the team extraction and RPG genre during the initial playtesting of Dark and Darker on Steam, the creators at Ironmace came under legal fire due to copyright issues which left the game on temporary hiatus since April 2023 and pulled from the Steam storefront. Thankfully, as of August 7, the devs were happy to announce that they had found a new means of distribution for their multiplayer hit, immediately launching the game into early access and making it available for purchase. Ironmace has found a partnership with distributor Chaf Games who are delivering Dark and Darker through online storefronts, while also making the dungeon crawler available to purchase on Ironmace's own dedicated Dark and Darker website. Due to an explosive volume of interest hitting the DaD website upon news of the game's availability, Ironmace was forced to issue an apology to players who had suffered immediate double charges while attempting to purchase a broken game that was failing to launch for many, promising refunds to dissatisfied customers. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, August 8, 2023 8:45 AM  I am but a stripling level 4 sorcerer in Baldur's Gate 3, still learning to distinguish my Magic Missiles from my Chromatic Orbs, my Cantrips from my Colour Sprays (or at least, restore my memories of these concepts from my long-ago Baldur's Gate 2 playthrough). I've just discovered the finer applications of Mage Hands, which are a great antidote to goblin archers - simply spawn one behind the offender, use it to hurl them from the cliff they're standing on, and chuck a nearby crate after them for good measure. Magical indeed! Or so I thought, before I read about the real spells that lurk at the top of the level-up ladder in the D&D player handbook. These feats of wizardry make Mage Handing seem about as otherworldly as setting an alarm clock. Take Wish, a ninth level conjuration that allows you to "alter the very foundations of reality in accord with your desires", up to and including generating pricey equipment from nothing and rewinding time. Or how about Prismatic Wall, which spawns an ephemeral barrier 90-feet long, made up of seven layers that inflict a different effect on any creature passing through, from poison to petrification? Spicy enough for you, goblin archers? Sadly, it doesn't sound like either of these spells is hidden away anywhere in Baldur's Gate 3, which caps progression at level 12. And it's far from certain that they'll be added in the shape of an expansion pack. There's a good reason for this: higher level D&D spells and abilities are so potent it's hard to include them without turning Baldur's Gate 3 characters into gods. |

And also every single one of those misfit heroes wants to get at you. In many cases with zero prompting from you whatsoever. It doesn't end with your team companions either; by my loose estimations, any character who is in upwards of three cutscenes comes with a 70% chance of propositioning you. There's one romance option that I experienced effectively as a jump scare, entering a cutscene to see a character suddenly and casually-not-casually shirtless. It never ends. In hindsight, picking from a selection of genitals in character creation was probably a clue. |

You won't find it in one of the usual places, however. As Kaan reported in April, Dark And Darker was pulled from Steam following accusations of copyright theft from publisher Nexon (Ironmace's founder Terence Park and a developer Ju-Hyun Choi are Nexon alumni who worked on a similar fantasy game, codenamed P3, in 2020-2021). With legal proceedings on-going, Ironmace have released this tense first-person dungeon crawler via their own Blacksmith launcher and third-party store Chaf Games. It's a bit more ceremonial than letting people torrent the test builds, at least. |

Game Freak announced a Mewtwo Tera Raid is coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as well as a code to get Mew. The special event was confirmed during the August 2023 Pokemon Presents conference, which largely focused on the upcoming Generation 9 DLC, The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. Players will be able to team up with Mew to take on the iconic Pokémon Red and Blue Legendary for a limited time in September. Players can redeem their Mew in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet using the code GETY0URMEW starting today on August 8, 2023. That code is good until September 18, 2023. However, the actual Mewtwo Tera Raid doesn't go live until September 1, 2023. The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Mewtwo Tera Raid event will run from September 1, 2023 until September 17, 2023. Winning it lets you catch a Mewtwo with the Mightiest Mark. If you take on Mewtwo with the Legendary Mew on your team, something "special" will happen. To start the event, you will need to have already unlocked black Tera Raid Battles by beating the main story campaign. There will also be Tera Raid battle events between August 9-17, 2023 and August 18-31, 2023 to get special items to prepare. [gallery size="full" columns="2" link="file" ids="977014,977015"] Mewtwo will make its Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Raid boss debut as a Psychic Tera-type, so players will want to use their best Ghost, Dark, and Bug-type Pokemon to counter it. While Mewtwo will only be available for a limited time, it's likely the Legendary will return in the future if the Walking Wake and Iron Leaves Tera Raid events are anything to go by. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are available on the Nintendo Switch, with the Mew code available until September 1, 2023 and the Mewtwo Tera Raid starting on September 1, 2023. Game Freak revealed the Detective Pikachu Returns gameplay and more characters at the August 2023 Pokemon Presents conference. The official second trailer gave us our first real look at the spin-off title, which is set to launch in October 2023. The new footage includes a sneak peek at both the returning and new cast members, various Pokemon that will appear in the world, and a preview of the game's detective mechanics. After years of waiting, the second title in the series was finally unveiled during the September 2023 Nintendo Direct. Picking up where the last game left off, Detective Pikachu Returns will center around protagonist Tim Goodman reuniting with Pikachu in Ryme City. According to Game Freak, the sequel will feature new Pokemon that have since made their franchise debut after the original game. With the recent release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in 2022, perhaps we will get to see some new Paldean Pokémon also make their appearance in the spin-off series. The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet The Teal Mask DLC release date came up during the August 2023 Pokemon Presents trailer for it and The Indigo Disk, and we'll get to play it soon. It will come out on September 13, 2023. The presentation offered new details about what to expect from both expansions. Blueberry Academy Professor Briar is the supervisor for the joint trip with Blueberry Academy. For The Teal Mask DLC, players will explore Kitakami. There, they'll meet Blueberry Academy students (and siblings) Carmine and Kieran. Kieran uses Dipplin, a new Applin evolution. The Festival of Masks is going on in Kitakami when players visit, which means getting to participate in that. They can also photograph Pokemon with new NPC Pierrin. The Roto-Stick is also added, which is basically a selfie-stick for photos. There will also be an Ogre Oustin' minigame to get Mochi to increase Pokemon stats. As for The Indigo Disk, Cyrano Blueberry Academy head will invite you to visit that school. It's actually a terrarium and school in the ocean. It features four biomes, each with returning Pokemon. New classes will also appear in this school, complete with a BB League that offer new fights against specific challengers. There is also a League Club you can join, which lets you customize the room, change your Poke Ball-throwing animations, and have special instructors come by for fights. Most importantly, you get to go to Area Zero again to see what look like Paradox Pokemon versions of Entei and Suicune in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. During the August 2023 Pokemon Presents, The Pokemon Company International and Niantic announced Pokemon GO Scarlet and Violet Paldea starters. Fuecoco, Sprigatito, and Quaxly weren't actually shown, so we don't know how the models will look in-game yet. However, we do know they'll arrive in-game in September 2023. As a reminder, when people start Pokemon Scarlet or Violet, they immediately get to choose Fuecoco, Sprigatito, or Quaxly as their partner. Fuecoco is a fire-type that evolves into Crocalor and Skeledirge. Sprigatito is a grass-type that eventually evolves into Floragato and Meowscarada. Finally, Quaxly is the water-type, and it becomes Quaxwell and Quaquaval. Here's the full Pokemon Presents for August 2023. The second closed beta test for Persona 5: The Phantom X will start on August 18, 2023. You can apply to try and access it via the official website. There is a new trailer for the closed beta ("Awakening Test") on Perfect World Games's YouTube account. He had previously appeared as an NPC in the first one. However, you'll get to actually control him as a Persona user this time. You'll also meet Li Yaoling, who is a mysterious transfer student from China. She is also a Persona user, as we can see from her All-Out Attack cut-in. There are also some familiar faces, such as Skull and Mona, in it. As a reminder, the previous cast of Persona 5 will also be in The Phantom X.
