Cyberpunk 2077 mod adds teleporting, bullet deflects to time dilation

An ambitious Cyberpunk 2077 mod for the time dilation system in the RPG game completely overhauls its gameplay with distinct manufacturer differences, new NPC interactions, and a quite frankly staggeringly vast amount of customisation options. The mod's creator says they aimed "to make time dilation gameplay more challenging and rewarding than the vanilla implementation" in the open-world game.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Time Dilation Overhaul mod by creator TeslaCoiled completely reworks the Sandevistan operating system, with unique balancing and perks for each of the seven different manufactures. Among the tricks on offer are allowing the time-slowing ability to be used viably with a ranged weapon build, enabling players to reflect bullets with a katana, utilising time dilation while in vehicles, and even teleporting your character.

In addition, NPCs with appropriate cyberware will be able to enter time dilation along with the player. Some may have weaker variants, allowing them to move faster than other characters but still slower than the players, while those with stronger cyberware might actually still be able to utilise their full ability set while you are in time dilation - so be careful!

Microsoft trials Xbox and PC Game Pass family plan

It's been rumoured for a while, but now Microsoft has officially launched an Xbox and PC Game Pass family plan as an Xbox Insider benefit for users in Colombia and Ireland. If you're in either of the two regions, you can sign up for the program, which allows up to five accounts including the owner to be registered on a single subscription - all with their own access to the full range of Game Pass Ultimate games and benefits.

Only the initiating account needs to be an Xbox Insider, but the other accounts you add to your subscription must also reside in the same country as the primary account owner. Joining the program will convert your current subscription time over to the new plan, although your time will be adjusted "based upon the monetary value of the old membership."

There are a few small issues detailed in the post announcing the trial which players may run into. Members who already have an existing Game Pass subscription may be unable to accept an invite, although Microsoft says it is "working on enabling these members to cancel immediately to accept the invitation." Players also cannot upgrade their account twice in a 24 hour period - so if you need to first upgrade from Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate, you'll have to wait for 24 hours before upgrading to the Game Pass Insider Preview that enables family sharing.

Apex Legends ranked mode needs smurf protection, say players

The Apex Legends ranked mode experience is being harmed by an abundance of high-ranked players joining lower rated lobbies on smurf accounts, according to some fans of the battle royale game. Fans say that the low barrier to entry for new accounts to start playing in ranked combined with the game's free-to-play nature is making it too easy for people to disrupt lobbies at lower ranks by playing on fresh alternate accounts.

Smurfing has long been a problem in almost every game to feature a ranked mode. Essentially, it boils down to players - usually those of higher skill - starting fresh on a new account so they will be matched against weaker opponents and have an easier time. (The name, if you're curious, originates from two Warcraft II veterans back in 1996 who took to playing on alt accounts named "PapaSmurf" and "Smurfette" as they had become so notorious that opponents would simply refuse to match up against them.)

While smurfing has been discussed frequently in Apex Legends, it has been highlighted by Reddit user Mayors_Son, who posted to the game's subreddit asking for the ranked mode to be locked behind reaching account level 50. Currently, players only have to make it to level 10 in the FPS game before they can jump into ranked lobbies, meaning that the barrier to entry is very low, which makes smurfing more tempting to players who are frustrated with playing against opponents matched to their actual skill level.

Diablo 4 beta leaks spark smart loot and trading discussions

It appears that the promised internal Diablo 4 beta test is underway, and several purported leaks have already surfaced online which appear to show off glimpses at the upcoming RPG game. While there are plenty of reasons to be wary about leaks from early internal testing - things are quite likely to change, after all - reports that the fantasy game will feature a smart loot system and prevent trading of high-end gear have sparked several discussions.

The video footage which appeared on Reddit showing the game's character creation menus was quickly taken down again, presumably as it appeared to show a unique version code which could be easily traced back to the person responsible. However, another source reported that unique, set, and legendary equipment as well as gold cannot be traded, with limited trading available on lower-tier items.

Furthermore, the source says that Diablo 3 style smart loot is set to return. This places a heavy emphasis on gear dropping with the appropriate stats and affixes for the class you are currently playing, rather than pulling equally from the entire pool of options. These leaks line up with past Blizzard interviews, where they suggested that the most powerful items should be ones players should have to earn for themselves, rather than being able to trade for them.

Right Stuf Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll's presence in the overseas anime industry continues to grow. The Sony-owned streaming service purchased Right Stuf, which runs the largest online anime retailer in North America. The deal was announced on August 4, 2022, just ahead of the Crunchyroll Expo event. Pricing and other terms were not disclosed publicly. [Thanks, ANN!].

The Right Stuf acquisition bolsters Crunchyroll's burgeoning e-commerce business, widening its selection in both anime and manga. The merger of Crunchyroll with Funimation also put Funimation's physical home video releases under the "Crunchyroll for Home Video brand."

Right Stuf was quick to announce on its blog that the retail side of the business, fronted by the RightStufAnime.com, will not change in large part. No branding changes or mergers of catalog are planned, and all orders, current and future, will continue to be processed normally. The Crunchyroll and Right Stuf online stores will also operate separately "for the moment".

There is one exception one exception: Erotica. Following the acquisition, Right Stuf will phase out its Erotica genre content and products. It will honor existing orders, but will no longer take future orders. All products and future orders in the now-defunct Erotica section will be transferred to a new business, EroAnimeStore.com. At the moment, EroAnimeStore's store site is down, but the linked FAQ promises that all existing orders and products will be transitioned in time.

Terraria mod adds controllable Death Star laser cannon

One of the most impressive Terraria mods has added a new controllable laser cannon that gives us huge Death Star vibes to the crafting game. Starlight River is a hugely ambitious mod project that overhauls Terraria with a wealth of new gear and enemy encounters. It's been in development for several years, and includes a whole range of cool trickery for melee, ranged, and mage builds among other fun features for the indie game such as wall-climbing mounts.

While there's plenty of juicy details to be found on the mod's official forum thread and Twitter account, it's their latest addition that's got us really excited. The Breach Cannon is a sentry turret that can be placed on the environment and will fire a powerful laser at wherever the player's cursor is currently pointing. That by itself is pretty cool, but it's the ability to combine multiple beams together that gives it a real Star Wars Death Star cannon feel.

When multiple lasers cross paths, they will be combined into a death ray that increases in size and potency with every additional contributing turret. The developers showed off the cannon in action, and it looks incredibly smooth - though the team notes that the player must be actively holding the remote to aim the beam. It's also confirmed that multiple players in co-op can "cross the streams" Ghostbusters style to maximise their damage output.

Multiversus arcade mode announced as first champions crowned

A Multiversus arcade mode joins ranked mode and new characters Rick and Morty for the season one update to the Warner Bros fighting game. Tony Huynh from developer Player First Games took to the stage to tease the game's roadmap at EVO 2022 ahead of the top eight finals, which saw the team of Nakat and Void take the crown as the first Multiversus tournament champions after fighting back from the losers' bracket.

Multiversus season one has been delayed, and while there is currently no set release date on the calendar, the official Twitter account for the game promises an announcement date "very soon." Thanks to the announcement at EVO, we now know that a 'classic arcade mode' will be coming alongside the addition of ranked competition and the arrival of Morty, with his maniacal compatriot Rick set to arrive a little later down the line.

While full details haven't been given about the incoming arcade mode, it's expected to see players going up against a series of AI-controlled battles much like arcade modes found in most other fighting games. It can be played in co-op with a friend, and leakers suggest that the mode will have "up to ten stages" and feature three distinct difficulty settings. The arcade mode should provide a more distinct way for players to hone their skills outside of simple bot matches before heading into player vs player bouts.

However, Vsinger and Nijisanji also had new figure announcements. The figures are all in varying stages of development. The Shirogane Noel scale figure will be 1/7, while the Yukihana Lamy figure will be 1/6. Good Smile Company also already announced some of these figures during Anime Expo 2022. Not all of the figures that it announced at Anime Expo 2022 are in the line-up at Smile Fest 2022, however. For example, Good Smile Company had said Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina'nis, Gawr Gura, and Watson Amelia figma figures are in production. However, it only showed Mori Calliope's.

The Hololive, Nijisanji, and Vsinger VTubers figures from Good Smile Company are in development and will come out some time in the future. The VTubers can be seen streaming at their respective channels, or in games like Hololive Error.

During Smile Fest 2022, Good Smile Company showed off some upcoming Fate/Grand Order and Tsukihime figures. There will be a total of 20 Type-Moon figures, with varying release windows for each. Some FGO figures, such as the scale figure of Caster Altria, do not even have a prototype yet. Others, such as the Tsukihime Arcueid Nendoroid figure, are in the final stages of development. The Tsukihime figures are based on the characters' appearances in Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, the remake that released in 2021.

All of the pictures are available on Good Smile Company's gallery for Smile Fest 2022. You can find the figures easily under the Fate/Grand Order or Tsukihime fandom lists.

During Hobby G Spring 2022, Good Smile Company showed off the prototype for the Arcueid Brunestud. At the time, however, she did not have paint. All of the Tsukihime figures use the designs from the remake version of the game.

Arcueid is also one of the new Servants in the Japanese version of Fate/Grand Order. She appears as Archetype Earth and is part of the game's 7th Anniversary. She appears in-game as a member of the Moon Cancer class.

The Tsukihime and Fate/Grand Order figures from Good Smile Company are in development, and will come out some time in the future. Fate/Grand Order itself is available on iOS and Android, while the remake of Tsukihime is available on the Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Japan.
