Viral horror game boasting 1.5 billion views gets surprise sequel

Sometimes, a horror game blows up on Twitch and YouTube and reaches a massive audience. In the past, we've seen this happen with Five Nights At Freddy's, Poppy Playtime, Slender, and, most recently, Content Warning. Alongside these hits is Amanda the Adventurer, which came out on Steam last year and has managed to rack up an astounding 1.5 billion views on YouTube related to it thanks to the fervent attention fans of the horror game have provided. Now, the small studio behind the first game is looking to continue its success with the announcement of a sequel, Amanda the Adventurer 2, slated to come out this year.

Stellaris meets Two Point Hospital in new sci fi tycoon game, out soon

Management and tycoon games, from Tropico 6 to Planet Zoo, are a good time. As entries to the genre like Jurassic World Evolution 2 show, they can be an even better time when part of the player's management duties involves taking care of strange creatures. Galacticare is a game that understands this, offering a combination of the healthcare simulation aspects of Two Point Hospital and the sci fi creativity of Stellaris. It's looked like a smart idea since we first saw it announced last year, and now we're happy to see it's just received a launch date that's much closer than we anticipated.

Phoenix Wright style cyberpunk adventure launches on Steam

Just after he worked on the first Metal Gear, writer and director Hideo Kojima put out a cyberpunk adventure game called Snatcher. Heavily inspired by movies like Blade Runner and The Terminator, Snatcher never made a big splash outside of Japan — mostly because its English version hasn't been ported to modern videogame platforms — but its influence is felt in experimental, tech focused entries to the science fiction adventure game genre like Eliza, Orwell, République, and, notably, today's launch of Cyber Manhunt 2: New World.

Grab the most recent entry to a beloved open world series for under $5

Just Cause 4 may not be as well regarded as Just Cause 2 and Just Cause 3, but it's still a fantastic option for anyone looking to spend a while flinging themselves across a sandbox world and blowing up nearly everything they see. Though it has a story and curated mission design not unlike Grand Theft Auto 5 or Saints Row 4, Just Cause 4 is also, like the similarly anarchic Red Faction: Guerilla, at its best when players let those aspects of the game take a back seat and revel in the chaotic potential of its more free form design instead. Anyone looking to do just that is in luck as the game is currently on a massive discount on Steam.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Global Release Being Considered

Sega Sammy Holdings announced that the company is considering a global release of Persona 5: The Phantom X. The company's intention to prepare for a Japanese and worldwide release became public after the release of the latest Sega financial results in the fiscal year ending in March 2024. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Persona 5: The Phantom X started its open beta test in China on April 12, 2024, and officially released in South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on April 18. In addition, the latest financial results for Sega confirmed that the release of Persona 5: The Phantom X met the company's expectations.

Regarding the company's financial results, Sega announced an increase in sales and a decrease in profits year-over-year. The release of titles like Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Vanillaware's Unicorn Overlord, and Football Manager 2024 (the first title in the series to release outside of Japan) contributed to the increase in sales. However, the decrease in profits came from the weak performance of the European market, and the according structural changes.

Developer Perfect World Games originally teased P5X in April 2021, as a mobile game titled Code Name: X. Persona 5: The Phantom X was later officially revealed in March 16, 2023.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is now available in China and South Korea for mobile devices and PC, and Sega is currently considering a global release of the game.

Hololive Kazama Iroha figure by Claynel

Claynel revealed its new figure will feature the Hololive Vtuber Iroha Kazama. Pre-orders for the figure have also opened on multiple web stores with an MSRP of 27,500 yen (~$176.50). The figure will be available in Japan and other select countries in 2025.

The 1/7 scale figure will have a total height of around 270 mm (~10.63 inches), from the pedestal's base to Iroha's ponytail ribbon. The figure set will also include Iroha's mascot tanuki Pokobee and the Chakimaru sword.

Here are some of the sample images for the figure:

The regional availability of this figure will be limited. While most Japan-based stores will only ship the figure domestically, there are some stores that can bring the figure outside Japan, although not all countries are covered. Hololive Vtubers have had numerous figures modeled after themselves. Good Smile Company has particularly revealed a large variety of figures ranging from the Pop Up Parade figure of Amane Kanata to the figma action figure of Kiara Takanashi.

The 1/7 scale figure of the Hololive Vtuber Iroha Kazama will be available in 2025.

Animal Well review

When Metroidvanias and platformers place players into hostile environments, we often also get means to defend ourselves or fight back. Animal Well involves a different approach. We're dumped into a dark, atmospheric space with occasionally hostile or foreboding elements with no means of attack, which makes for an interesting, thoughtful approach to exploration.

Animal Well begins in a foreign environment. Players begin their life as a small, blobby sort of creature with teeny legs. They hatch in a series of darkened caverns with water, animal, animal spirits, and the remains of statues, structures, and switches. An ethereal squirrel marks the first encounter. Is it a friend? A guide? Just a resident who happens to inhabit this space? You're left to your own conclusions. (If you recognize the name Nifflas or Knytt, expect a similar sort of adventure.)

In this situation, it works. Our avatar is a baby and newcomer to this world, just like we are. It knows as much as we do. The first few rooms act as a tutorial, minus actual tutorial elements. We learn our limitations. We can walk, jump, and climb. Find a phone? It can be used to save. We may happen upon an item like a match, which can later be used at a designated space to provide light for a darkened area. Firecrackers seem to grow like plants, and can be used to illuminate areas or distract more hostile entities. That squirrel from earlier? It might appear in a room as a hint that you're wandering into a series of spaces that could lead to a notable encounter or acquisition.

Said acquisitions end up being keys to new abilities or opportunities in Animal Well, much like in Metroidvanias or platformers. After a few aquatic encounters in one region that also helped me understand how bubbles could be used to access otherwise unreachable spaces, I found a chest with a bubble wand. This meant I could backtrack to a past place, which previously was off limits, and use the wand to finally jump up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfaqL1oQlck&ab_channel=NintendoofAmerica

In one space, there were two switches that would need to be flipped one after the other to eventually allow me to jump my way up to a higher place by causing blocks to disappear and reappear. It was impossible to do so alone and with my current equipment. After I got the disc, it could ricochet between the two switches to allow me to platform my way to a new room. Because we're left to our own devices, you need to experiment with these remnants left behind to understand what we're now able to do.

The thing about it is, while the atmosphere is interesting and there are moments when I felt a bit challenged, there were times when I felt a bit bored when walking through the Animal Well caverns. Some light backtracking can come into play, say when you find certain items you didn't have access to before. A few situations might feel threatening. But only a handful really tested me, and in one of those cases it was more because of the layout of the space and platforming ask than the being in front of me.

Admittedly, what I liked best about Animal Well were the renditions of animals. I appreciated encounters with each one. Were they peaceful? Could I make use of them somehow to advance? Would one be my enemy and require some sort of technique, platforming skill, or item to surpass?  It made running through places I'd already been or spaces that were otherwise a bit bland more interesting.

Animal Well is a minimalistic experience that is about taking in the things you see around you. Yes, there's platforming. You definitely need to keep roaming around and experimenting to find out which way you should go and where helpful items to progress may be. If the idea of being plopped in a foreign place that is ominous with no explanation and residents that may or may not want you there sounds appealing, Animal Well will prove an interesting trip and reward you with secrets to uncover.

Animal Well is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC.

2B NieR: Automata Noodle Stopper Figure Arrives Next Year

Good Smile Company announced it will sell the FuRyu NieR: Automata 2B noodle stopper figure outside of Japan. It will appear in Q1 2025 and cost $33.99.

2B is wearing her standard dress from both the NieR: Automata game and anime adaptations for the figure. She's sitting with her hands bracing her. One leg is up, so it could also be perched on the edge of a cup or shelf, while the other is dangling down. She will be about five inches tall in total.

Here's a closer look at how this new 2B noodle stopper figure will look.

For those unfamiliar, a noodle stopper figure is designed to be used with instant ramen like Nissin Cup Noodle. The idea is you perch the toy on top of your food. It will then hold the lid in place and balance to help keep it warm. However, this is an optional use, and the position means they can also be displayed on top of shelves, books, boxes, or other items.

The NieR: Automata 2B noodle stopper figure will launch in Q1 2025. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll. The game is available on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

The best V Rising base locations

What are the best V Rising base locations? When talking about V Rising base locations or castle locations, we mean the flat, elevated plains that can be used for building. You can claim one of these spots by placing a castle heart, as explained in our V Rising beginner's guide. Although there are many castle locations in V Rising, it's difficult to determine which one is the best, especially as a new player.

Generally speaking, the best base locations in this multiplayer game are spacious, close to other regions, close to important resources, close to points of interest such as merchant camps, and (especially when playing on a PvP server), easy to defend. Although a base location with multiple exits is often preferred on PvE servers, as this will save you some walking time, players on PvP servers typically prefer base locations with a single entrance point and a large, secondary plateau, as this is easier to protect against raiders.

In this list of V Rising base locations, we'll show you some of the best locations to build your castle in V Rising version 1.0.

Asus' ROG Ally X is going to struggle against the Steam Deck OLED

The ROG Ally X sounds like it will be an admirable gaming handheld, but I have some big issues with how the initial reveal has been handled, and what it means for the market overall. Asus is releasing its third ROG Ally model in under a year, and rather than focusing its resources on a true next-generation model, it's instead chasing the instant gratification of a shiny new release.

The existing ROG Ally is already among the best handheld gaming PCs, and the ROG Ally X may very well surpass it once we have all the details and can put it to the test. What is the best MMORPG on PC? If you're wondering, those oft-used letters represent the words Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game and refer to games where thousands of players come together in the same world. Is it one with spells to sling and demons to slay? Working your way through the stars as a miner or a corporate bigwig? Solving ancient conspiracies and fighting Lovecraftian horrors? Maybe it's all of them.

Ultimately, the deciding factor for the best MMORPGs on PC largely comes down to personal preference, so with that in mind, here's our list of the top MMOs currently alive and kicking. You're sure to find something that will swallow up entire days at a time, and many of these entries can also be considered some of the best PC games around. While there are plenty of recently updated and new MMOs to consider, the golden oldies on this list have withstood the test of time.

How to play Minecraft snapshots – snapshot 24w19a

How do you install and play a Minecraft snapshot? These snapshots are the very first iteration of Minecraft updates, and are a way for Mojang to test out bug fixes, technical changes, and new mechanics before officially rolling them out. Anyone with the Java edition of the creative game can try these features without any risk to your current world, so let's find out how to be the first to try the next big Minecraft update.

During Minecraft Live each year, the next big Minecraft update is revealed to the community. In past years, we've had the likes of the Caves and Cliffs update, The Wild Update, and the Trails and Tales update - each of them overhauling the base game with new Minecraft biomes, blocks, and mobs. Since these updates come with so much new content, they need to be tested out first, and that's where Minecraft snapshots come in. Use them to test out new experimental features before anyone else, and feedback to Mojang if you have any issues. It's a win-win situation.

Logitech Litra Glow review: Small streaming light, big impact

Not everyone can fit a full-sized ring light in their home. When I'm not using my large, 18-inch ring light, it gets broken down and stored in our spare bedroom. This means that when I want to use it, I have to go through the entire process of setting it up and positioning it just right. And although this isn't a huge issue, I'd rather use a smaller light for quick projects or everyday use.

Cue Logitech's Litra Glow, which is square rather than circular, and one of the best lights for streaming for a compact setup as it clips straight onto a screen. Released in early 2022, this dinky light is part of Logitech's growing product lineup for creators – most similar in size to the Elgato Key light panel, but sharing the Logitech G customization of larger lights like the Logitech G Litra Beam LX

Since purchasing the Litra Glow, its minimal yet effective design has amazed me. With just a few easy and quick steps, anyone can add the Litra Glow to their workspace to be used in up-close videos, Zoom meetings, streaming, and more. To give you a better idea of its capabilities, let me share with you my experience with the Litra Glow and what I've learned.

Spacefaring RTS Homeworld 3 is good sci-fi. Monolithic structures scorched with plasma burns. Sleek spacecraft. Alien sunrises. It's also good sci-fi because its characters converse through reams of inscrutable but cool-sounding space science, and at no point does a grinning quipster tell a scientist: "Whoa there, professor. Why don't you try saying that again... but in English!" Basically, if your wishlist for Homeworld 3 has tone and atmosphere at the top, rest easy. At no point did I get the sense that Blackbird ever took making the first proper Homeworld in eight years lightly.

During the quest for a new flat - a quest I would slot somewhere between return to Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 and the Shalebridge Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows in terms of overall hopefulness and unpleasant surprises - I toyed briefly with the idea of living in a mobile home.

You can find all kinds of weirdo moving property on Gumtree - houseboats, caravans, yurts, large coats, coffins - but they all share the disadvantage of being cramped and more expensive than described and inadequate to the power and internet needs of a Maxed-Out Videogame Journalist. Open world fantasy RPG Runes emits a deeply powerful aura. I can tell it's deeply powerful because MSI Afterburner's fan control immediately went mental after I loaded up its free Steam combat demo. What do you mean 'unoptimised'? That alarming sound is simply my computer shaking with awe at the fearless flippancy required to leave enemies fully untextured so they resemble Metal Gear Solid's cyborg ninja. The promise of an indie fantasy RPG drew me in, but I must admit, I almost didn't bother writing about this upon learning the demo is just a pre-Kickstarter combat slice. But something about it entrances me. What it lacks in textures, it makes up for in sheer moxy. You can't optimise moxy! You can either make MSI shudder in terror or you can't.

In Hilderbrand's view, Game Pass will likely never be sustainable or profitable. Also detailed are the several variations on his moves that can change the speed of his Hadoken projectiles or the behaviour of his Tatsumaki Zanku-Kyaku. Zenless Zone Zero Belobog Pamphlet Highlights Characters

Part of the way HoYoVerse introduces Zenless Zone Zero characters is with in-game ads and flyers, and the latest looks at the Belobog Heavy Industries faction. It's set up as a "project log" for the construction company.

The leaflet begins by explaining the mission of the Belobog faction in Zenless Zone Zero. It notes that it constructs buildings and works on infrastructure for the city. There's an image of heavy machinery on the front. It also confirms there are four active employees.

The second page focuses on the Zenless Zone Zero Belobog characters and discusses their roles in the company. Koleda Belobog is the president, who is mature, but also impulsive. Ben Bigger is the asset management director. Grace Howard is the crew's technology specialist. Finally, Anton Ivanov is a regular employee.

The final page goes over a current project they are working on. It is a reconstruction project, and the log at the bottom of the page features commentary from all four characters to offer an idea of each person's personality.

As we head into the warmer months of the year, many places around the world are preparing for lots of festivals, celebrating community and culture with food, games and entertainment. It's perhaps fitting, then, that the new Pokemon Trading Card Game set uses this setting as its focus. Scarlet & Violet: Twilight Masquerade is about masks, feasts and teamwork. Like bright colors? Or maybe just a fan of downloadable content as a concept? This set might have something for you.

The heart of this set — which you may have predicted — is Ogerpon, the masked Pokemon that serves as the center of the story in The Teal Mask. All four mask variants are here, as are basic and ex forms. The big version can even swap masks into its other forms, though we'll have to see if that ends up being worth it as a cornerstone of a deck build.

Its foes, on the other hand? Yeah, we can see them making an impact. Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti are all high-HP, one-prize basics with abilities that power them up if you attach darkness energy. If the energy types line up with a strong strategy, they'll make an appearance as utility or sidekick fighters, for sure. In particular, a lineup of Munkidori on the bench, each moving three damage counters to the other side of the board every turn? Yikes. You better be ready to one-hit KO.

The Future and Ancient subtypes, introduced in Paradox Rift, get a few reinforcements too. Iron Leaves can help Future decks retrieve fallen fighters from the discard pile. Iron Bundle lets you hit-and-run, swapping the opponent's active when you do. But the real catch here is Iron Thorns ex, with an ability that shuts down the abilities of non-Future heavy hitters.

On the Ancient side, Walking Wake's double-edged attack won't make many waves in competitive play, and Scream Tail ex's opponent-delaying niche is extremely narrow. Brute Bonnet may be the most viable, with guaranteed poison and an attack that adds more injury to injury.

In terms of gameplay, Twilight Masquerade is more of a supplemental release than one that introduces new ideas. There are more ACE SPEC options now! New and reprinted Trainers fill in the gaps in recent sets' possibility spaces! We're seeing a much higher quantity of sidekicks to add to an existing deck than we are centerpieces worth building around. We're sure one of these cards will break out in a way we're not anticipating, of course. But nothing about this expansion is meant to stand alone, and that makes sense, because it doesn't.

While this is nothing new, this set in particular had us thinking about the timing of The Pokemon Company's TCG pipeline. It's honestly impressive how quickly the turnaround is from cards' release in Japan to their international one — it varies, but this one's about a month — and that's nice for some consistency between regions' metagames.

But what about aligning with the video games? This set's built around The Teal Mask, an add-on that launched last September, and we do have to wonder whether this regional focus would have landed a bit more effectively while eager players were still working through this mini-adventure. This may have resonated particularly strongly with us this time, given the setting itself is built around a festival.

Still, there's a lot to like about the set's aesthetics, regardless of timing. The look of all the packaging is built around Ogerpon's signature teal, which is striking. New Pokemon like Sinistcha and Dipplin reinforce the food and fun theme. And hey, Thwackey's here to keep the beat! It's a fundamentally fun and pleasant set, a good fit for these warmer months of the year.

Homeworld 3 Featured ImageWhile the last game in the Homeworld franchise was released in 2016 in the form of Deserts of Kharak, the critically acclaimed series has not seen a main entry since the release of Homeworld 2 — back in 2003. I was nine years old back then. Those years went by in an instant for me, but the same can't be said for avid Homeworld fans who have anxiously waited to hear what's next for the Hiigarans and find out what exactly happened with the disappearance of the legendary Karan S'Jet. Well, that brings us to Homeworld 3. This is the first time I've played a Homeworld game. Regional unavailability of the physical game at the time limited my early RTS experience to that of Age of Empires and Warcraft 3. So, for me, picking up Homeworld 3 seemed familiar and alien at the same time. Familiar because Homeworld 3, while requiring some learning and lore study, ultimately is a very well-crafted game that streamlines the experience of building your fleet in a way that even n...

Well, kinda unstoppable. Practice this combination of button presses to access many hidden areas of the map. To endlessly jump in Animal Well, you must first get your hands on the Bubble Wand. This can be found in the far west of the map, just after the room of statues. Once you have it, you'll be ready to fly. All you need to do is blow one bubble with X, then jump, using space bar, onto the bubble you have blown. Then, with the right timing, you must jump either left or right and immediately blow another bubble...

Gate Keys Solo Leveling AriseIn Solo Leveling Arise, you'll need Gate Keys to enter the many dungeons that'll be available to you at any time. It isn't exactly obvious how to get more, however. Gates are currently the only way to farm XP outside of the story, but farming for levels is hard considering the limit on Gate Keys. Every way to get Gate Keys in Solo Leveling Arise Unfortunately, there are a few ways to get Gate Keys in Solo Leveling Arise. Every day, all of your Gate Keys will replenish. This means that you'll only have so many gate attempts every day. So if you want to maximise XP gain without spending a penny, you'll simply have to clear all of the gates you can with whatever Gate Keys you have. This isn't typically a challenge for most, so this comes as a rather limiting factor. So if you're desperate to clear more gates, you can spend Essence Stones. 150 Essence Stones will get you one Gate Key, which isn't a bad trade, but isn't...
