Deepest Fear is a new survival horror FPS that channels Dead Space

There's something about water that's just so terrifying. It's the feeling of knowing that, in an instant, a still, glittering river can wash you away if the current picks up, or that the ocean is a bottomless pit that's crawling with eerie, almost alien life. While The Chinese Room's Still Wakes the Deep toyed with those nautical phobias, Deepest Fear takes it to a whole new level. Set in an underwater facility on Neptune, you'll have to uncover your estranged father's secrets while sending monsters down to their watery grave with swift headshots and your (hopefully) undying wit.

I think It's safe to say that Trigger Happy Interactive's upcoming survival horror Total Chaos is a bit of a palette change from their last offering - the frenetic, neon-drenched, chainsaw-legged Turbo Overkill. Still, it's not often we see psychological horror combined with ultraviolence, and anything that gives off even a whiff of Condemned: Criminal Origins has my attention.

Total Chaos started life as a popular Doom 2 mod, and while I dare the say the limitations of that game sell the atmosphere a little better than this much sleeker update, I certainly trust Trigger Happy enough to make the most of the new engine. The game is set in New Oasis, a "once bustling haven for coal miners" that is now most definitely not bustling, nor haven-like.

Nightdive, you done good. The Thing: Remastered is an ultra-sharp and commendably playable update to a game that history will remember as 'actually a pretty good pick at Choices when you really just popped in to get some Revels but got embarrassed when the till staffer said "is that everything?" in a tone that could have been neutral but equally could have been a damning indictment of your character'.

I'm being slightly facetious here, of course. History actually remembers Computer Artworks's 2002 shooty horror game for how incredibly ambitious and conceptually inventive its proto-sus social squad system was. In homage to the body-snatching alien paranoia of Carpenter's 1982 horror classic, The Thing tasks you with not just assembling and directing a squad, but keeping them from breaking down or turning on you - in fear you might be hosting the titular molecular stowaway.

It is a house made of house. You'll actually design the layout yourself every time you wander through it, picking from a selection of mismatched room types whenever you open a door.

Anyone who is not trying to sell your something will tell you that 'punk' is a mostly meaningless term, mainly popularised by Malcolm McLaren and Vivian Westwood so they could sell bondage gear to teenagers. It is, of course, very punk of me to recognise this. However, this hasn't stopped every other videogame released in the last 74 years trying to coin their own punk subgenre. The latest to do so is 'brinepunk' FPS Abyssus, which seems to have mostly arrived at the terms by being 'a bit Steampunk, but underwater'. Abyssus looks cool, and so with the power vested in me by the Greggs vegan sausage roll I had for lunch today, I hereby declare that this is the last game allowed to do this. Let's see if it's making the most of it, at least.

"So, you've fallen off a mountain," strikes me as a brilliant book to write and then stock in every mountainside gift shop across the land, purely for the image of a falling climber rapidly scanning the pages as they tumble comically to their doom, searching for the one piece of sage advice that might alleviate their predicament. If you, personally, are reading RPS while falling off a mountain at this very moment, I'm afraid I can't help you. Luckily, if you bonk your head on Steam on the way down, you'll find a demo for stylish open world climbing game Cairn, which should hopefully distract you from your imminent pancaking.

Cairn is from The Game Bakers, of Furi and Haven fame. We first saw it at the Day Of The Devs this year. I was fresh off the lovely Jusant at the time. "Ah, another relaxing and whimsical French game about mountain climbing!" I thought. I was a fool. It's far more intense, this one, although there are dashes of Breath Of The Wild and Death Stranding to add some whimsy and wonder to your Sisyphean struggle. Plus, it's very pretty. Here's some new footage, or possibly some old footage depending on badly the embargo has messed up my schedule.

For years, Indiana Jones fans have yearned for an authentic adaptation that recaptures the charm, comedy, and feel of the beloved 1980s movie trilogy outside of LEGO form. With its expert mixture of exhilarating action, thematic puzzles, and beautifully crafted sound design, I'm delighted to say Indiana Jones and the Great Circle delivers everything an Indy fan could ever want.

Set after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle places players in the boots —and beneath the iconic fedora— of Indiana Jones in a first-person adventure spanning the globe. Following a masterful recreation of Raiders' intro serving as the tutorial, the story is set into motion when a giant man (played by the late and great Tony Todd) steals a seemingly inconspicuous artifact from Marshall College. With a new mystery to solve, Indy has an excuse to skip teaching and hop on a plane to beat the stuffing out of various Axis powers to unravel a wider conspiracy.

Players have free roam around most of the locations Indy winds up in, such as the Vatican and an Egyptian dig site. While Indy's friends in the main story gently nudge you forward, the game encourages venturing off the path to solve optional "Mysteries," take photographs, and find hidden collectibles. These side activities all = reward "Adventure Points," a currency used to enhance Indy's abilities. Your level of guidance reflects your "Adventure Experience" settings, which allows you to individually control aspects such as puzzle difficulty, objective text, and location markers to suit your playstyle.

Even at its highest Adventure Experience difficulty, the puzzles in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are more about immersion and enhancing the adventure than providing head-scratching challenges. While more challenge would've been welcome, the relatively straightforward puzzles allow you to focus on the narrative and exploration without being halted by overly complex riddles.

The areas featured in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle feel authentically rooted in their era and culture and are a treat to explore. The visual fidelity is stunning, with outdoor areas enhanced by impressive lighting effects and dimly lit tombs glowing under the faint flicker of a torch. Indoor environments are especially remarkable, with photorealistic detail in paintings and decor, making it hard not to take a break from the adventure and admire.

Throughout most of the adventure, Indiana is accompanied by Gina Lombardi, portrayed wonderfully by Alessandra Mastronardi. Gina, an Italian journalist, becomes a vital part of the story as she investigates the mysterious disappearance of her sister while joining forces with Indy to achieve their shared goals. Gina often works alongside Jones to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and provide a unique perspective on story elements along the way. She also throws hands alongside you, making combat easier when she's around. During stealth segments, enemies completely ignore her, which works well but results in unintentionally hilarious moments with enemies frantically searching for her while staring at her in the eye. Gina's dynamic with Indy works brilliantly, both in terms of gameplay and story, and has landed Miss Lombardi as one of my favorite companions in the franchise. Nobody is ever replacing Short Round, though.

In addition to puzzle-solving and exploration, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle puts significant emphasis on hand-to-hand combat and stealth mechanics. As someone who typically winces at the sheer mention of stealth in adventure games, I was genuinely impressed at how well this works. The system is simple yet effective — you can pick up objects lying around, sneak behind an enemy, and knock them out with a satisfying WHACK to the skull and/or a swift kick between the legs.

You can also throw objects to divert an enemy's attention, though that's as complex as it gets.If stealth is absolutely off the table, the good news is that the game generally doesn't force you into it. In the fashion of the classic movies, I've managed to escape from fights with clever use of the bullwhip to disarm enemies and attach myself onto a ledge they couldn't reach. You will struggle without the use of stealth on higher difficulties, however.

Melee combat in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an exhilarating experience, amplified by its fluidity, excellent sound design, and the natural satisfaction that comes with landing hints on Nazis and Fascists. Whether wielding improvised weapons or bare-knuckle brawling, each hit feels impactful and rewarding. Combat mechanics are tied to a stamina gauge, which adds a layer of strategy to each encounter. Every action depletes your stamina, and since it doesn't regenerate while blocking, timing your punches and use of the bullwhip to stun or disarm is essential. You can pick up from enemies for quick and effective kills but at the tradeoff of being loud enough to alert the entire area of your presence.

Like the adventure side of the Great Circle, the "Action Experience" features numerous customizable combat difficulty settings. This includes the number of melee attackers, ranged enemies, enemy damage, awareness indicators, auto-parry, and more. Overall, the level of customizability with difficulty settings is an excellent feature that opens the door for any Indiana Jones or action-adventure gamers to enjoy equally.

One of the most standout aspects of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is its sound design, which perfectly captures the spirit of the original trilogy. Any fan of Indiana Jones—or '80s and '90s classics in general— knows how crucial John Williams' iconic music is, and Gordy Haab has masterfully emulated and utilized that magic here. The soundtrack is dynamic, often adapting the gameplay, such as when enemies start to suspect Indy and the shift in music to heighten intense scenes. Similarly, the score elevates emotional or action-packed moments in cutscenes, crafting an experience that feels cinematic and incredibly true to the films.

The excellence in sound design extends far beyond the music, too, with rich, detailed sounds that make environments feel alive. Every sound is meticulously crafted, from the sharp crack of Indy's whip to the rush of water when passing metal pipes or coins on the floor of an ancient tomb reacting to the speed of your movement.

The performances and motion capture in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are top-notch, bringing characters new and old to life with remarkable authenticity straight out of the movies. Troy Baker does an excellent job of capturing Indy's distinctive wit and charm in a genuine and respectful way. Equally impressive is Marios Gavrilis, whose portrayal of Emmerich Voss has cemented his place as my all-time favorite villain in the franchise. The high-quality motion capture elevates these performances, capturing subtle changes in expression and movement that truly make the game feel like a genuine movie from the original trilogy's era. The slapstick, humor, charm, and sense of adventure are all present.

Emmerich Voss in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

I'm not exaggerating when I say Indiana Jones and the Great Circle feels like a movie. The game is packed with cutscenes. So much so that the sheer number might have been frustrating in a less polished game, but the strong performances, authentic feel, and compelling story ensure they never overstay their welcome. The pacing strikes a fine balance between gameplay and storytelling, which kept me engaged throughout the entire adventure. In terms of length, I expect the average player to complete Indiana Jones and the Great Circle between 13-18 hours, though this will vary between difficulty levels and the number of optional content completed.

You don't need to be an Indiana Jones fan to play Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, though I believe it certainly plays a significant part in the overall enjoyment. At times, the amusement relies on fans recognizing callbacks and references. I admit I found myself smiling like an idiot at aspects like the plane map transitions and humming along to the iconic tune. When you find a collectible that references an obscure character from a 1993 Indiana Jones book published only in French, you know MachineGames did their homework.

Despite the intimidating system requirements for the PC version, my experience with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was silky smooth on Xbox Series X at 4K resolution. I can count the number of frame drops on one hand, and each instance lasted less than a second, typically occurring during cutscenes. As mentioned earlier, the game shines visually, with an unmatched attention to detail in its indoor areas. From sweltering deserts to beautiful ancient architecture, the environments in this game are beautifully rendered, immersive, and crafted with care. Occasionally, character faces and details under specific lighting, particularly in bright areas, seemed lower in quality than the environment. However, this doesn't apply to cutscenes, which have phenomenal detail and likeness to existing characters.

With its stunning visuals, satisfying combat, immersive exploration, and standout character performances, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle delivers on every front, offering an experience as close to a classic Indiana Jones film as an action-adventure game can get. The game successfully combines cinematic storytelling with engaging gameplay and outstanding sound design, bringing players to the heart of the adventure a must-play title for Indiana Jones fans everywhere.

Whether you're a casual gamer with a soft spot for Indiana Jones or a fan of cinematic action-adventure titles, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has something for everyone. The game's customizable difficulty settings and accessible mechanics ensure players of all skill levels can enjoy the adventure. However, don't expect to spend hours cracking intricate puzzles and riddles — the Great Circle leans more into its action, narrative, and authenticity than brain teasers.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is available for PC and Xbox Series X, with a PlayStation 5 version arriving in 2025.

Double Dragon DLC gameplay in River City Girls 2

Arc System Works and WayForward have released the Double Dragon DLC pack for River City Girls 2. The earlier reveals in April and August 2024 noted that the DLC would be out in 2024. With the pack released today, the companies have kept their promise of releasing it within the year.

The company is basing the Lee brothers' appearances on their debuts in the inaugural 1987 arcade release. However, the characters will have voiceovers by the more recent voice actors. Billy and Jimmy are voiced in Japanese by Kazuyuki Okitsu and Takehito Koyasu—the same voice actors are also providing lines for the characters in the upcoming 2025 game Double Dragon Revive. Meanwhile, Starbomb's Dan Avidan and Arin Hanson are the English voice actors for the respective characters.

After purchasing and installing this DLC pack, players can have the Lee brothers as not only new playable characters but also their inclusion in the game's storyline. The set also adds a new dojo master named Boro. A vocal song performed by Starbomb completes the DLC pack's content lineup.

River City Girls 2 is readily playable worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. The Double Dragon DLC for River City Girls 2 is now available on all the above platforms.

Sakura Miku Nendoroid Comes Back in 2026 figure hatsune miku

Good Smile Company announced the Sakura Miku: Bloomed in Japan Nendoroid will be back, with the Hatsune Miku figure returning in March 2026. The estimated worldwide release is Q3 2026. It will cost ¥8,000/$49.99 and only be available online.

This Sakura Miku Nendoroid originally appeared back in 2015. It was the 500th entry in the Nendoroid line. Back then, it cost ¥4,167. The figure comes with three face plates, which show her smiling, blushing with her eyes closed, and looking a little surprised. She comes with a tray of food she can hold, some dango she can eat, a cup, and a container of Amazake. There are also two different versions of her twintail pigtails, with one being long and loose and the other braided.

Here are the photos showing how she'll look when she comes back:

As a reminder, some people reported issues with fraudulent charges as of late when shopping at the Good Smile Company US storefront. Stories showed up on the  r/GoodSmileCompanyr/Nendoroid, and r/AnimeFigures subreddits. Good Smile Company hasn't issued a statement as of yet.

The Sakura Miku version of Hatsune Miku is quite popular and inspired many different pieces of merchandise and figure designs. For example, in 2024 we've seen one version of her that was a foot tall. Another was a noodle stopper variety that could be used to keep instant ramen closed. Spiritale even revealed a version of the Sakura Miku design in a kimono instead of a more traditional Miku costume.

The Sakura Miku Nendoroid Bloomed in Japan version of the figure will launch again in Japan in March 2026 and worldwide in Q3 2026. Pre-orders are open until January 29, 2025.

Project Mugen is Ananta

Project Mugen is now called Ananta, according to a new trailer released by NetEase. The trailer also revealed more of what players can expect to find within the game's open world.

The trailer for Ananta puts a great emphasis on the game's use of vehicles, with hints of street races and various characters getting in and out of cars. It appears that players will be able to commandeer vehicles from NPCs, similar to the Grand Theft Auto series but much less violent. There is also a brief snippet of a gunfight taking place while another character drives, and a battle with a car that's turned into a violent robot, so it's clear that vehicles will also play a part in combat.

While some snippets of combat were shown in the new Ananta trailer, these weren't as extensive as those seen in the original Project Mugen trailer. Instead, we got a greater emphasis on other activities available within the game's open world. As well as Spider-Man style parkour element, the game will also feature a number of side activities. These include basketball, weightlifting and darts, but it's possible the final game will feature more.

Here's the latest video highlighting Ananta gameplay.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n26InrperQE

Ananta was originally announced as Project Mugen in 2023. It's a free-to-play open world game from NetEase and developer Naked Rain, where players take control of a band of psychics who fight off paranormal threats to the city. Despite the new trailer, no release date as been confirmed for the game yet, but pre-registration is open.

Ananta (formerly Project Mugen) is currently in development for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Pre-registration is open now.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Christmas Starts, Stars Yuffie

The holiday season has come to Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, with a Christmas event showing up, Yuffie starring on the new banner, and a new Sephiroth sword to earn. Things are available now, and they look to be sticking around until after the holidays come to an end on December 31, 2024.

In terms of the banners, both old and new ones will show up for the holiday season this year. This means the Tifa, Lucia, Zack, and Aerith equipment will return. Square Enix noted Lucia's Holiday Coat will get a Boost MATK R Ability buff that increases that from 5pt to 10pt. Also, all banners are part of a Winter Step Up Draw event that increases five-star rates on steps 1 and 2, gives you a free 10-pull on step 3, and increases the five-star rate to 50% on steps 4 and 5.

As for the new Christmas Yuffie Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis holiday banner, it features two weapons and a new piece of gear. The non-festive one that we'll see show up even outside of the holiday season is the Ultimate Weapon Conformer for her. The more seasonal ones are the Holiday Bell and Holiday Cheer Reindeer gear. Her new gear has the Boost Wind Potency and Windstrike Arcanum R Abilities. This ties into the Holiday Bell, which has a Song of Wind C Ability that deals Wind damage and decreases Wind resistance for one enemy. That weapon also has Boost MATK and Boost Wind Potency R Abilities.

Here's how that gear and the new weapons look:

Finally, the A Holiday Battle: The Holy Flame's Bounty event started. This involves a fight against a cookie Cactaur. If you face it and win, you can eventually exchange the items from the fight to get the Wintercrest Blade for young Sephiroth.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available for PCs and mobile devices, and the Christmas event and Yuffie weapon banner is live now.

demon slayer hinokami chronicles 2

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2, the sequel to the 2021 game Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, has been announced. Those visiting Jump Festa 2025 will be able to play a demo at the Aniplex booth. The first The Hinokami Chronicles fighting game appeared on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

The story will cover the Entertainment District Arc to the Hashira Training Arc. That means if a third game ever comes out, it would focus entirely on the Final Battle Arc, which includes the Infinity Castle and Sunrise Countdown Arcs. While there's not a lot of information on playable characters or updates to the gameplay, leaker ryokutya2089 confirmed combat scenes for Mitsuri and Muichiro. You'll also be able to unleash combination moves.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is a fighting game that covers the story from the beginning to the Mugen Train Arc. There's a story mode that's faithful to the original, though you can also fight against enemies or fellow demon slayers in normal matches. As a game adaptation of a popular anime and manga series, a major selling point is the faithful 3D recreation of iconic moves and scenes.

Demon Slayer is a best-selling anime and manga series that follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who wants to become a demon slayer. His goal is to kill the demon who slaughtered his family and turn his younger sister Nezuko back into a human. The series is so popular that the movie actually beat out Spirited Away as the highest grossing film of all time in Japan.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is in development. More information on its release window and platforms will come out later.
