PCGamesN Friday, May 23, 2025 11:03 AM Between Civilization 7, Manor Lords, Tempest Rising, and so many more, if you're a developer, the world of strategy games is a tough one to inhabit right now. Standards are high. Competition is extensive. If players don't like your new update or latest DLC, they have plenty of other places to go. Crusader Kings 3 Khans of the Steppe, which introduces new governments and regions to the grand strategy game, has struggled somewhat on Steam so far. A month after it was released, the expansion has a 'mixed' rating from players, who cite some performance problems and balancing issues. But Paradox has a recovery plan. The developer explains how it manages feedback, and which changes it now will - and won't - be making to CK3. PCGamesN Friday, May 23, 2025 11:25 AM When is the Elden Ring Nightreign release date? Your time in the Lands Between isn't over just yet, Tarnished. Or should that be Nightfarer? This standalone multiplayer game is the closest FromSoftware fans can get to an official Elden Ring co-op mode, and we couldn't be more excited to get stuck into some jolly cooperation. Elden Ring Nightreign is set in a parallel universe to that of the soulslike game we all know and love, paving the way for new possibilities. This co-op adventure shrinks the boundaries of Elden Ring's open world to a single area. Limveld is a procedurally generated "open-air dungeon" populated with random enemies, locations, and even surprise cameos pulled from other FromSoftware titles. PCGamesN Friday, May 23, 2025 10:39 AM WD and Samsung have only just jumped on the PCIe 5.0 gaming SSD bandwagon, but the next generation of super-fast drives is already waiting in the wings. A new PCIe 6.0 SSD from Micron has just been demonstrated at the Computex tradeshow in Taiwan, and its potential speeds are immense. Of course, none of the best gaming motherboard designs for desktop PCs feature PCIe 6.0 support yet, and the PCI Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) hasn't even started certifying PCIe 6.0 devices yet, so it will be a while before this Micron tech makes it into your gaming rig. Even so, it's cool to see the tech that could be used in the top-speed SSDs of tomorrow this far in advance. |
PCGamesN Friday, May 23, 2025 10:36 AM Dragon Age: The Veilguard left me conflicted. On one hand, seeing Thedas brought to life so beautifully, and finally getting to visit regions I'd only heard about in lore snippets and storybooks, was a dream come true. On the other hand, its narrative - what, for me, made the series so special - felt weaker than its predecessors', and the action-driven combat never quite gelled. Yet it worked for many others, earning largely solid reviews that weren't far off the now-lauded Dragon Age 2. But there's been an air of sadness or finality over the game since its launch, with no expansions on the horizon - a first for the series. PCGamesN Friday, May 23, 2025 10:03 AM Star Wars Battlefront 3 has long felt as far out of reach as fellow theoretical third entries such as Half-Life 3. The original Pandemic and Lucasarts games only managed a pair, and EA's Battlefront 2 was met with a mixed reception at launch thanks to its microtransaction model. Post-launch support from EA and DICE, however, took great strides to improve it, and it now holds an 87% positive Steam rating. PCGamesN Friday, May 23, 2025 9:33 AM Dust, in any and all of its variations, will forever be the most iconic Counter-Strike map. But throughout its 26-year history, Valve's FPS has been defined by dozens of brilliant battlefields. In Condition Zero, we had Assault. In CSGO, it was Cobblestone. Personally, I'll always be partial to a bit of Office, and even Aztec, from time to time. But what about Cache? A custom map for CS: Source, with a few balances and tweaks to benefit the Terrorist side, it became one of the best and most beloved maps in all of CSGO. So far, however, excluding a mod version on Steam Workshop, there has been no Counter-Strike 2 version of Cache - but that is almost certainly about to change. PCGamesN Friday, May 23, 2025 9:13 AM AMD has stuck its head above the parapet in the increasingly fraught GPU VRAM discussion, with the company's chief architect of gaming solutions, and former Alienware co-founder, Frank Azor, claiming that most gamers have "no use for more than 8GB" of memory on their graphics cards. The statement follows the launch of the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT, which comes in both 8GB and 16GB versions, and Nvidia coming under heavy criticism for only including 8GB of memory on the GeForce RTX 5060. As I've just found in my Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 review, 8GB is still just about enough memory to run many of the latest games at decent settings, as long as you don't go above a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. However, demanding titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are already pushing VRAM requirements hard, with the RTX 5060 unable to cope with this game above the Medium graphics preset, even at 1080p, simply because it doesn't have enough memory. With the Radeon RX 9060 XT release date coming soon, it looks as though AMD is keen to stick up for the cheaper version of its new GPU. They're trying to persuade larger advocacy organisations like The European Consumer Organisation to propose new laws that put a stop to such shenanigans. To support their campaign, they've carried out a survey of games with online requirements to work out how many are "dead", dying or enduring thanks to developer or fan-implemented "end of life" plans, such as patched-in offline functionality. The resulting Google spreadsheet has 738 entries, of which a whopping 70% are apparently no longer playable or destined to become that way. |

Caseplay announced on social media that it will start making its Hatsune Miku and other Vocaloid phone cases available for overseas customers. You can check out the official Caseplay website to make sure that your phone is one of the 130 devices compatible with its products.
Aside from phone cases, you can also get accessories like earbuds cases, Apple Watch bands, and phone rings. You can only get the six Piapro Vocaloid characters—Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Len, Kagamine Rin, Megurine Luka, Kaito, and Meiko—though. Miku is the one who appears on the most products, and some items are only available with her on them.
Here's how much all the Vocaloid phone cases and accessories cost at Caseplay:
Prices do not differ between brands, which means an Apple phone case costs the same as a Samsung one. Aside from the big global brands, you can also get items for Motorola, Xiaomi, and Huawei. Caseplay will not deliver to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, or Israel. As well, shipping costs differ depending on the country. You can use this chart to assess how much it'll cost to have it deliver to you.

Sunrise and Kadokawa have launched the new spin-off manga based on Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. The full title of the new manga is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury - Frontiers in Glory Days, and it is immediately available in Japanese on Comic Walker.
The companies had previously unveiled the spin-off manga in late December 2024 with the Japanese subtitle Seishun Frontier, which could be translated to "Adolescent Frontier." While today's release matched the promised Spring 2025 window, the Japanese chapter revealed Frontiers in Glory Days as the official English subtitle.
This spin-off manga notably changes all the locations so that it takes place entirely on a near-future Earth. The Asticassia School of Technology is now located in the existing Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa. Suletta is alternatively depicted as coming from Alaska, even though she retains her Mercury surname. Her mother also instead goes on a business trip to South America to oversee the launch of an explorer spacecraft.
The last page of the inaugural chapter teases the appearance of "Aerial," which shares the same name as the original title's flagship mech, XVX-016 Gundam Aerial. This teaser comes from a chat message sent by Suletta's elder sister in English to further reinforce the new setting of the Mercury family residing in Alaska.
The first chapter of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury - Frontiers in Glory Days is readily available to read in Japanese on Comic Walker. The second chapter will appear on the same platform on June 27, 2025.

In Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, we can enter codes for gifts after playing for a bit to immediately gain extra items or rewards. While the game only debuted on May 21, 2025, Level-5 already started sharing some of these, with two available so far. The goal for the first two releases seems to be to build up item reserves quickly and easily without spending Dosh or doing some crafting.
How do I redeem codes for gifts in Fantasy Life i?
After getting through the tutorial and taking on your first of many Lives, you'll be able to open up the Weird Pad (menu) and find a Gifts section. Going to that will let you enter an eight-digit code to get some items to make adventuring a little easier. However, note that you do need to be online to redeem any of them. (You won't need Nintendo Switch Online or PlayStation Plus to claim these, though!)
After connecting to the internet, type in the code with the keyboard. Once you hit accept, the item will be given to you. You don't need to go to the Guild Office box to get them like you did the Deluxe Edition items.
Here's a gallery of official images showing how to go through this process.

Level-5 started sharing these codes for gifts on the official social media account for Fantasy Life i, so following that is a good idea. Of course, following this site is handy. There are no expiration codes noted, so you should be able to always use these.

HoYoVerse announced what we can expect from the 2.0 update to Zenless Zone Zero and, in addition to the Xbox Series X version, new story, and new region, we each will get to choose a free S-Rank character and S-Rank W-Engine. There will also be activities that essentially give players enough currency and items for three ten-pulls on the gacha, as we can earn 1,600 Polychromes that could be put toward either the Star-Studded Cast Stable Channel banner or limited Signal Searches. Free costumes for Belle and Wise will also be available to earn as rewards in Zenless Zone Zero as well. Everything kicks off on June 6, 2025.
First, we actually get to pick which free S-Rank character and W-Engine we want in Zenless Zone Zero after 2.0 arrives. Here's the list of all playable units we can choose from, as well as their factions, attributes, and specialties:
As for the free S-Rank W-Engines, it looks like the image showed the ones associated with each of those six characters may be available to choose as your free one. Here's the list of those possible options:
We also got to see and learn the names of the two Zenless Zone Zero costumes for Belle and Wise. Belle's is called Delicate Sunlight. Wise's is Soaring Crane. Both are based on attire seen by people in the new Waifei Peninsula, and they each have a white, yellow, and black color scheme.
Here is how the Zenless Zone Zero Belle and Wise costumes look, and there's also a screen capture of the free S-Rank characters being given away.

New and returning characters appearing in 2.0 also came up, as the next Zenless Zone Zero Agents were confirmed. The three Yunkui Summit characters, as mentioned before, are Yixuan, Ju Fufu, and Pan Yinhu. Pan Yinhu is the only A-Rank one, as the others are S-Rank. Yixuan, returning character Astra Yao, and Pan Yinhu will be available at launch in 2.0, while Ju Fufu and returning Agent Caesar will appear in the second part of the update.
The trailer for the new update can be watched below, and it focuses on the new story before showing off playable Agents.
Here's the full 2.0 Zenless Zone Zero Special Program on YouTube.
Zenless Zone Zero is on the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Xbox Series X version and 2.0 update comes on June 6, 2025.

Monster Prom is one of those series where I feel certain entries are catering to different types of possible players. I always felt the first two games were best for newcomers to the concept. With Monster Prom 3: Monster Roadtrip, I felt like it was more for those familiar due to character decisions and gameplay concepts. Now that Monster Prom 4: Monster Con is here I still think the series is as entertaining as ever, but it might not be best for newcomers.
You're a monster. You're trying to find someone to love. Fortunately, you and your six friends April, Doug, Liam, Nico, Omen, and Zoe are headed to a con. As you work on your own comic and attend activities and events, there will be opportunities to work on yourself and connect with them. Maybe you'll even find love! However, you're not the only person attending, as potentially other people could be playing with you and even pursuing the same love interest as you.
So the Monster Prom series are basically visual novel dating sims with stat management and calling dibs on events determining if you're lucky enough to win a love interest. As such, the writing is a really important part. While I really loved the scripts in the first three games, I'm disappointed in this one. Yes, Beautiful Glitch absolutely embraces the con experience. However, I feel like that overwhelms the charm typically found in the series. Because all of the interactions with the love interests focuses on activities at a con or fandom, I felt there were times when they sometimes came across more as caricatures of certain types of fans than more nuanced personalities.
This isn't as much of an issue for established characters like Liam and Zoe, who are still great, but I think the reason I did connect with them more despite loving the designs of newcomers is because we got to know them in the original game and follow-ups. Like I really wanted to see more of April's depths, due to her background. And while Omen and Nico have fantastic designs, there were runs where I came away with the feeling that Omen is there to be the "chaotic" and "dark" choice and Nico was an excuse for a bunch of costumes. I really felt like past games offered a bit more range and insight into who characters were, leaving me feeling like I "knew" who they were after a few runs. I didn't get that here. It's enjoyable in its way, and I think Monster Prom fans will like it, but the decision make me wonder if it'd turn off those more unfamiliar with the series.
But in general, the Monster Prom 4: Monster Con gameplay is as tight as usual. Gameplay is divided into a sequence where you visit a few spots at the con to build stats, seeing a scene with some of the love interests where you can make decisions after each one. After that, you'll get opportunities to work on your comic by choosing from certain prompts to Mad Lib your way to a finished work at the end. There will also be times when you can sit with one of the love options at a table to try and make an impression and connect. When you reach the end, your stats and actions influence the relationship with a possible person in your group and you see what your finished work looks like. Depending on the option you select at the outset and how many players appear, you could end up spending two hours or more searching for love.
So while the writing is clever and often funny in Monster Prom 4: Monster Con, I also feel like the execution of the story and direction may not be as good of an introduction to the series. Like the original Monster Prom and Monster Prom 2: Monster Camp strike me as being better examples of the narrative work and characterizations Beautiful Glitch is capable of, while offering solid gameplay. The general gameplay loop and experience in Monster Prom 4: Monster Con is great, the characterization decisions and some narrative choices for events make me feel like it's better as a follow up once someone's familiar with what the team and series is capable of, rather than a first introduction.
Monster Prom 4: Monster Con is available for PCs.

Final Fantasy's MTG Secret Lair set is one of the most hyped up sets around, with the packs and collector's edition already mostly sold out and some cards already being sold for hundreds of dollars each—if you are lucky to find one.
To anyone who was able to grab a pack and open it, or is just curious about some of the prices the cards are going for, we pieced together a list below of the top 10 current expensive cards from the set, so you know what to look out for if your trying to collect a masters set or grab some of these cards for yourself.
Table of contents
Top 10 Final Fantasy MTG Secret Lair cards worth money
If you are here, then you know what is about to happen, as most of these cards are all Surge Foils (surprise, surprise), and that's if you can even find a booster pack to open. Personally, outside of these, look out for Vivi ornitier or some of the rarer Chocobo colours too, including the black one in Japanese text—they are some of my favorites from the set.
Look out to see if you got a surge foil with the FIN numbers on the bottom left! This list might also change in the future with the set still releasing, so be sure to come back for updated prices sometime in the future. Prices are fluctuating pretty wildly currently and will likely get worse ahead of the release in June.
For full transparency, to get the prices in this article, we looked over multiple price websites, including TCGPlayer, eBay pre-orders, and more, to get a comprehensive price guide based on pre-release sales data.

It's a long weekend ahead of us, my fellow bots! With a Monday holiday to look forward to in parts of the world, including the U.S. and U.K., there's an extra day to play some games before heading back to work! Huzzah!
To top it off, there's some pretty good indie offerings released this week to play, as well as chances to go back into the old backlog ahead of next week's big release (Elden Ring Nightreign, anyone?) But enough waffling, let's jump straight into it.
I really want to play Fantasy Life i, but I'm a sucker for physical media, and with the recent news that the game has been cancelled physically in the West, I rebelled against that noise and decided to import it from Asia instead so I can have it on my shelf. Unfortunately, that means I won't be able to spend the long weekend playing a game I've been looking forward to for a while—but you can all pick it up and play it on my behalf at least!
Instead, I think I might give Monster Train 2 a try. My colleagues have been saying what a good deck builder Monster Train 2 is, but I'm worried it won't be my cup of tea. I was also looking into Splitgate 2, but I'm kind of all tapped out when it comes to shooters currently.
I can't really think of anything else new from the past week that would suit my tastebuds, so there's always the option of Shiny-hunting some Pokémon on various games as well, or playing Elden Ring on a new save file to remind myself of the controls ahead of the multiplayer game releasing next week. So many options... so little time.
But enough about me, what are you plotting for your weekend, Destructoid fam? Let me know in the comments below!

I woke up this morning to the strangest "leak" news I've heard in a while, with reports of a secret Nintendo event hosting mock-ups of Switch 2 presentations and a reported Zelda 2025 placeholder on so many pictures.
These pictures and videos have, of course, been taken down by Nintendo Ninjas overnight. But that hasn't stopped many content creators and publications talking about them (I guess now I'm included in that) spewing rumors of an unannounced Zelda game coming this year that Nintendo is 'going to show off at Summer Game Fest' among other clickbait titles.
And as I sat there scrolling through everything, I had to wonder—did everyone forget about Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment?
That's the big Zelda title coming in 2025, and it was announced during the Switch 2 presentation event. It's set as a prequel to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and is likely the big Zelda 2025 title that the event mentioned. It's no surprise most folks hadn't talked about it; the only people who seem to be talking about it are the ones who have apparently forgotten the game's existence.
Are we really stretched for content at the moment, where we are forgetting games on purpose in hopes of driving clicks? I get a lot of people don't remember every game coming out, but come on now.
Now, what is interesting to come out of this is conversations on Reddit threads that have likened the leaked text to Echoes of Wisdom text font, with some speculating that Echoes could get a Switch 2 expansion or extra content akin to Mario Party Jambooree, and I don't dispute that idea. But a new Zelda game that isn't Age of Imprisonment? I find the chances very unlikely.
I'll tell you what! If a new Zelda game releases by the end of the year that isn't a remake, DLC, or remaster (or heck, Zelda: Wind Waker on Gamecube virtual console could even count as Zelda 2025 at this rate), I will eat my Tunic. You can hold me to that, Destructoid.
