NetEase Games announced battle royale game Knives Out will receive a new Evangelion collaboration featuring Asuka and Rei. This will be the 7th collaboration with the series and it commemorates the 30th anniversary of the anime.
The collaboration is now available on the game and will end on January 21, 2025. Asuka and Rei will appear as playable characters, with new skins designed specifically for this collaboration and inspired by their usual plugsuits as well as the Twins of Darkness and Light skins from Knives Out. In their new designs, both characters can be seen carrying the Spear of Longinus. Additionally, other character skins for Rei and Asuka, as well as weapon and vehicle will appear, such as skins based on Eva Unit-00 and Unit-02 for the MC-X and the AK-47 guns respectively.
As mentioned above, the Knives Out battle royale has received several collaborations with Evangelion. In August 2020, the game received various Eva Units from the Rebuild of Evangelion movie series, as well as the AAA Wunder battleship that serves as a mobile base for WILLE in the anime films.
Knives Out is available on Android and iOS mobile devices as well as PC. The new Knives Out collaboration even with Evangelion is live and will run until January 21, 2025.

100 avatar icons of Ranma 1/2 anime remake characters are now available online. The icons were shared to celebrate January 2, 2025, which can be written as 1/2 as per Japanese date notations.
The 100 Ranma 1/2 avatar icons can be found now on the official website for the anime series. Ranma Saotome (boy,) Ranma Saotome (girl,) Akane Tendo, Ryoga Hibiki, and Shampoo will receive 10 avatar icons each. Meanwhile, other characters will receive 3 avatar icons each, including Kasumi Tendo, Nabiki Tendo, Soun Tendo, Genma Saotome, Tofu Ono, Tatewaki Kuno, Kodachi Kuno, Azusa Shiratori, Mikado Sanzenin, Ryoga as P-chan, and Genma as Panda.
Additionally, Jusenkyo Guide and Ichiro will receive one avatar each, with an additional one for the Kolhotz High School pair Mikado Sanzenin and Azusa Shiratori. Finally, 10 icons will be reserved for various character pairings, with the remaining 4 belonging to the animation for the ending theme song.
As a reminder, it was revealed during Jump Festa 2025 that the Ranma 1/2 anime remake will receive a Season 2 in the future. You can check out the teaser trailer for Season 2 here.

The official Zoids X account (formerly known as Twitter) announced the production of a Zoids Trinity Liger new model. Pre-orders are set to open soon, with the release slated sometime in 2025. More information about the figure will appear in the future.

As mentioned previously, this is a Liger model, which is red with white detailing and an emerald green gem fixed in the center of the head. This model looks significantly different from the Liger Zero. Pre-orders will open up sometime in 2025, with the model itself expected to ship within the same year.
In June 2024, Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions announced a project for the 25th anniversary of the Zoids anime. Alongside this, various pop-up shops appeared throughout 2024 selling unique Zoids related merchandise. This included acrylic stands and keychains. A collaboration was also held with Japanese restaurant chain Wendy's First Kitchen.
In December 2024, the Zoids series and Medabots began a collaboration. It will run through January 2025. This features a release of three Zoids inspired Medabots in the mobile game Medabots S.
The Zoids Trinity Liger model will release sometime in 2025. Pre-orders for the model will open soon.

Sega Plaza announced the Rei Ayanami (Tentative Name) Neon Genesis Evangelion Plugsuit figure is back in stock. Consumers can obtain it at participating locations in Japan starting January 25, 2025. This is to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion airing on television.

In April 2024, DragonHorse Inc. announced the production of a new Mortal Mind action figure of the Evangelion Final Model. It came with it's own pedestal and additional hand parts. The figure was subsequently released on April 5, 2024.
The Rei Ayanami (Tentative Name) Neon Genesis Evangelion Plugsuit figure will available to obtain at participating locations in Japan on January 25, 2025.
Neon Genesis Evangelion originally began its run in Japan in October 1995. Evangelion: Death (True)2, the edit of 1997's Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth, appeared in 1998. The End of Evangelion appeared in 1997. The Rebuild of Evangelion films, which offer a different take on the story, began airing in Japan in 2007 with Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. Shueisha announced and started the run of the first new Shonen Jump manga series of 2025, and it is Waiting for the Sunlight. It is available via Shonen Jump+ and is being released in Japanese and English. The first chapter is available to read on MangaPlus worldwide for free.
Waiting for the Sunlight is a historical manga from Haruka Nanase, as the new Shonen Jump series is set during World War II. The official site even noted the 80th anniversary of the day that war falls this year. (It ended on September 2, 1945.) The story is set in Nagano, Japan, during 1941. The tale begins with a family visiting an 80th Anniversary Peace Memorial Exhibition and a child visiting with his family and seeing ceramic weapons made by students. It lingers on a weapon made by a fourth grader named Yoko Matsubara. It then flashes back to Yoko as a child, talking to a tanuki statue that ended up at that exhibit, about how she'll be making items at Oyama Ceramics.
Once Yoko ends up at Oyama Ceramics, which is run by her friend Yuki's family, she learns her new master won't be making Shigaraki vases and tanuki statues anymore. Because of World War II, he's instead making kitchen utensils to replace iron ones for the war effort. She also learns her master's son Junpei is going to take the exam to enlist in the Imperial Army.
It's at that point that we also learn Yoko and her family are already suffering due to the war. Her father died in Manchuria, and her other died recently. Now she lives with her uncle, grandma, and older cousin Shizuko. The first chapter also suggests things will get harder, as sanctions from America come in and the war starts in earnest.
Chapter 1 of Waiting for the Sunlight is available via Shonen Jump now, and the next new chapter of the manga will debut on January 8, 2025. Two of the last additions in 2025 were the one-shots Pretty Guardian Stress Magical Girl and Wanted Police Officer.

Bandai Namco announced that season 2 of Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream will begin on January 8, 2025, and Fuuka will be the first new character to join the cast. She will be entirely free, once the update arrives, though we will need to unlock her. There's also a new trailer teasing how she'll work.
In order to earn her, people need to play through the Main Story Quest. This isn't unusual, as it is also the means for unlocking base game characters. You need to complete every mission there and update via downloading the patch before she will show up in the roster. Once you do get her, you'll find with the other Mage characters like Administrator, Eugeo, and Oberon.
Fuuka is a character who plays a major part in this game's main story. We often see her alongside the character Neige. It's because of her help that Kirito, Asuna, and their allies are able to properly deal with major antagonist Gabriel.
Here's the full Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream Fuuka trailer. It begins by showing her design and bringing up that she's a Mage. Then it shows her water-based spells.
While Fuuka's addition is one major change, the patch will also include some rebalancing for other characters. Agil, Alice, Heathcliff, Klein, Lisbeth, and Yui will move faster in the field, due to a movement speed increase. Some specific moves will be adjusted, such as Agil's Brave Taunt adding an attack boost to its effects. Basically every character experiences changes in the patch, like Administrator, Argo, Asuna, Death Gun, Eiji, Eugeo, Fukaziroh, Kirito, Leafa, Lisbeth, LLENN, Oberon, Silica, Sinon, Strea, Yui, Yuna, and Yuuki.
Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream is available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC worldwide, and season 2 starts with Fuuka on January 8, 2025.

A Date with Death is one of the best free games I've gotten to play, and the Beyond the Bet DLC makes this dating sim about pursuing a Grim Reaper even better. This add-on really enhances the relationship we build with Grim throughout the story. I'd even say it makes the bond seem stronger, like we really did form an unbreakable connection over our short period of time with the otherworldly love interest.
The title of the add-on does a pretty good job of teasing what to expect. A Date with Death Beyond the Bet DLC extends the story by taking it from a seven-day love story to one that lasts 10 days. It picks up with events basically happening at the close of the fifth day, then leading into an alternate path that makes the story last 10 days and result in four more endings.
First, Two and a Half Studios does a fantastic job of implementing this extra Beyond the Bet story into the dating sim, as it essentially slips into A Date with Death perfectly at an existing dialogue option point in the free version of the game. As with other DLC options, such as ones in the previous Expansion DLC from December 2023, there's an in-game notation letting you know that you'll be going off the beaten path if you select that line in-game. You can also enable it in options. Plus, there's an option to go ahead and jump directly to the scene that lets you hop onto that route once you purchase the DLC. So there are a lot of ways to naturally happen upon the additional content or go directly to it if you just picked it up and want to experience that moment now.
Once this additional story begins, it completely fits in with everything we experience in the first few days with Grim. The personalities remain consistent. So do our possible responses for our character. There's playful banter. There are heartfelt moments. There are actual revelations about the Grim Reaper system and what could happen for our character and Grim. I was a bit worried that perhaps things might feel a bit rushed, since the topics covered in this additional story help build up general lore for the world in addition to the relationship between the two characters. But things are handed quite well, to the point that I felt like if it had stretched out to say 14 days, it might have been too much.
Because these additional moments come after Grim and a player character established a connection and feelings for each other, it also means the A Date with Death Beyond the Bet DLC gets to further explore that relationship. We get to see how they react to each other when the cards are on the table. There are plans made. Right at the branching point before this additional storyline begins, we are seeing the first major motions from Grim regarding his accepting how he feels about our avatars and we're able to make choices that reciprocate in an even more genuine way. So with this extra time, there's even more of a commitment with such fantastic pay-offs.
Now, I'm going to avoid spoilers for the new endings, but I will say I appreciated all of the different futures they present for Grim and a player. Each one sort of offers a different perspective on how things could go. What is especially great is that Two and a Half Studios makes all of them feel in-character and plausible based on decisions both a player might choose or Grim's personality. I even loved that there's an option that isn't so happy.
While A Date with Death is a free dating sim and you'd have a totally fine and wonderful time just playing that, I consider the Beyond the Bet DLC essential. It's an exemplary extra route with multiple endings that all seem to make sense and "work," depending on who you've built up your protagonist to be and how you interact with your Grim Reaper during the story. It's so well done, and Two and a Half Studios did a fantastic job of developer a character, relationship, and world.

Toby Fox confirmed once again that Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 will be available in 2025, continuing the game's story. He took to Bluesky to issue a New Years message confirming the release window.
In his New Years greeting, Toby Fox posted an image offering a reminder that Deltarune Chapter 3 & 4 would both be releasing this year. This news was delivered by a crudely drawn snake in cool shades to represent 2025 being the year of the snake in the Chinese zodiac. He did not provide any further updates on when in 2025 the latest chapters would be releasing.
Toby Fox has been providing updates on the game's development via his newsletter. The next two chapters of Deltarune are in the final stages, with bug fixing and localization currently underway. An external company is handling the testing, with the PC version of Chapter 3 mostly complete. Console testing is still ongoing. In addition, the first pass of Japanese translation for Chapter 4 has been implemented and is also undergoing testing. He also has some additional team members doing some early work on Chapter 5.
Deltarune Chapter 3 and 4 were already confirmed for a 2025 release by Toby Fox at Halloween. He is determined to have a simultaneous worldwide release across PC and consoles, which is why these latest chapters are going to require additional work prior to release.

Sony revealed the first PlayStation Plus monthly games for 2025 with the January selection, and the lineup includes the live-service Suicide Squad title. The new trio of games will be available for all subscribers from January 7, 2025.
The three games available for PlayStation Plus in January 2025 will be led by Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This is Rocksteady's experiment with creating a live service game, as Harley Quinn and associates set out to take down various members of the Justice League. Just be aware when you jump into this one that development on the game will officially end on January 14, 2025 and no further updates will be added. This game is exclusively available for subscribers on PS5.
Meanwhile, the other two January 2025 PlayStation Plus games include Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is the 2010 edition of EA's long-running street racing series. The version for PS Plus will be the PS4 remaster released for the game's tenth anniversary.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is famously bizarre metanarrative indie game where you play as an office worker named Stanley trying to defy an omnipresent narrator. Ultra Deluxe features a ton of additional content not seen in the original game. It's available for both PS4 and PS5.
December's selection of PlayStation Plus games are currently still available. These included It Takes Two, Aliens: Dark Descent and Temtem. They will be available until the release of the January selection of games.
The January 2025 PlayStation Plus monthly games will be available from January 7, 2025.

Kotobukiya announced a new Yakuza figure, and it is of the new Like a Dragon entries' hero Ichiban Kasuga. The company revealed it as a "birthday" surprise for the character on January 1, 2025. However, as it is so early in development, there are no images of it yet.
There is no concept art for the Ichiban figure yet. We also don't know about its scale or other details. The only information about its release that came up is that the company will release it after the other two Yakuza figures of Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima.

As Kotobukiya noted in the Ichiban announcement, it is also working on Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima Yakuza and Like a Dragon figures. Those were confirmed back in June 2024. Neither one is available to order yet. The last update on them appeared back in September 2024. Only unpainted prototypes of the two showed up. However, the company did confirm that their poses match and they are designed to be displayed together.
Here's how those will look:
There's no release date for the Kotobukiya figure of Yakuza: Like a Dragon hero Ichiban Kasuga. Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth are both on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
