Starfield, Bethesda's newest RPG, is, well…a big game. It's filled with quests to complete and aliens to shoot. It's also jam-packed with items to grab, sell, and manipulate. And it's very easy to pick up too much junk and suddenly find yourself overencumbered, unable to fast-travel or sprint as much as usual. That's…

The Sims 4 finally has fairies, thanks to new wand-erful mod

The Sims 4 is undoubtedly one of the greatest simulation games of all time. From its silly yet realistic Sims to its dollhouse-like qualities, EA's latest entry in the iconic Sims series stays winning. If you're just as obsessed with The Sims 4 as much as I am, then you probably know that many of us have awaited news of a fairy-themed expansion. Now that we have horses, how am I meant to live out my fairy pony princess dreams without fairies? Thanks to one very creative and talented modder, this isn't a problem anymore.

Forget Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion, I'm playing the OG vampire RPG

There are a thousand and one vampire games out there, yet none have the allure of Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines. Sure, by modern standards it's pretty janky and looks its age (and then some), but the game has withstood the test of time and earned its place among the best RPGs. With a potential Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 release date on the horizon after an almost 20-year wait fraught with turbulent changes in developer, numerous lengthy delays, and rumors that the game had actually been canceled, I've asked myself again and again how it can continue VTM's legacy and inject some new (eternal) life into a withering videogame franchise. The answer lies in Bloodlines' roots, and if Bloodlines 2 draws upon them, it could be the best vampire adventure that we've seen in years.

How Diablo 4 world tiers work

Want to know how Diablo 4 world tiers work? The Diablo 4 world tiers are essentially difficulty settings - the higher the tier, the more difficult the game is. When you create a character for the first time, you also have to pick a world tier. Diablo 4 recommends veteran fans pick world tier 2, whereas newbies should stick to world tier 1 where the enemies are easier to defeat.

Playing on a higher world tier does have its advantages for playing against stronger enemies, including increased experience and additional gold for defeating monsters using Diablo 4 classes. It's important to note that the first two world tiers only apply from level 1 to 50, once you hit the Diablo 4 endgame, players can access three additional tiers upon completing specific challenges. Here's everything you need to know about Diablo 4 world tiers.

Bethesda's Starfield isn't quite the same as Skyrim or Fallout. Some would say the best way to wind down after a rough day down the Content Reactors isn't to play a grotty occult horror game, but I caught a trailer for Tenebris Somnia earlier, and couldn't help myself. In this foetid offering from Argentinian devs Andrés Borghi and Tobías Rusjan of Saibot Studios, you play a young woman, Julia, who is visiting her film-maker ex-boyfriend to drop off their old apartment key. Julia's having a hard time getting over the break-up, but she's clearly doing better than her ex: his apartment is full of broken glass, anomalous red gloop and creepy occult books.

The game's twist is that it's two visual styles thrust into the same frame. On the one hand, you'll explore an 8-bit world of unpleasantly bright colours, finding and combining objects adventure-game-style (I say adventure-game-style, because this is a bit more energetic than most adventure games – you can equip and swing a wrench, and there's a run button). On the other hand, well. Click the headline to find out, if you dare. Yes, this is me trying to do a jumpscare. Brace yourself!

playstation pop up store japan header

An official pop up store for PlayStation will be at TGS 2023. As a reminder, TSG 2023 will be from September 21 to September 24, 2023. It costs 2300 JPY to enter the PlayStation pop up store and this is per day. That means if you want to go again another day, you'll have to pay the 2300 JPY again. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

This pop up store is a collaboration between Sony and apparel brand Grapht. You'll be able to get accessories and fashion items that use various motifs and color schemes from the PlayStation brand. For example, there is a cable clip that costs 1485 JPY that looks just like a PlayStation controller. You can use it to keep your cable together, as well as use it as a decorative shoulder strap.

The entire line-up of items if available via the Grapht website. Some items that you will be able to purchase include:

  • Alarm clock: 3900 JPY
  • Big tote bag: 3900 JPY
  • Bucket hat: 4400 JPY
  • Controller mug: 2400 JPY
  • Ice cube tray: 1500 JPY
  • Icon light: 4500 JPY
  • Logo scarf: 4900 JPY
  • Notebook: 900 JPY

  • Spray art t-shirt: 4300 JPY

As well, if you spend over 15,000 JPY at a time, you'll be able to get a novelty controller light for free. Since supplies are limited, you might not receive one if too many people purchased enough to qualify ahead of you.

TGS 2023 will take place from September 21 to 24, 2023.

FFVII Ever Crisis Tifa novel

In a recent 4Gamer interview, Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Director Motomu Toriyama confirmed that the game will include new scenarios and character moments from an FFVII novel and elements not present in the original Final Fantasy VII game. Additionally, some of the new chapters will be completely original scenarios. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Note: This story contains spoilers for Final Fantasy VII and its Remake.

Director Toriyama said that some of the new story quests that will be included in Ever Crisis will allow players to delve deeper into character backstories from the original Final Fantasy VII. These scenarios will explore elements and settings that haven't been explored in games before.

One example of this includes an episode focused on Tifa meeting the members of Avalanche for the first time. This is one of the episodes planned to appear in FFVII Ever Crisis. Toriyama said that thanks to the aforementioned episode, players will be able to witness Tifa's grief at the loss of the Avalanche members from a different perspective.

This new FFVII Ever Crisis scenario is based on the novel Final Fantasy VII Remake: Trace of Two Pasts, written by Kazushige Nojima, the original FFVII scenario writer. While the story of Ever Crisis is based on the original FFVII, Toriyama mentioned that the game is also designed to further explore elements present in both FFVII Remake and FFVII Rebirth.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is now available for Android and Apple iOS mobile devices. Final Fantasy VII Remake: Trace of Two Pasts is available worldwide.

Holocure Main Page

Holocure is the simple fusion of Vtubers and Vampire Survivors sorts of games, both of which appeared almost overnight to become staples in the gaming and streaming spheres. Created primarily by animator Kay Yu, who also worked on other official Hololive projects, the game is a love letter to the streamers and the unending tide of memes, anecdotes, and "lore" spawned by their communities. But as numerous and often baffling as the references are, at the heart of Holocure is a genuinely well-made game that captures exactly what makes the Survivors-like minigenre so compelling.

Like its contemporaries, the gameplay mainly consists of maneuvering your character around the stage while using your weapons to clear the swarms of enemies, then collecting the experience they drop. Leveling up allows you to pick an item or weapon, some of which combine into "collabs" that change how they work dramatically and free up a slot. Stickers can drop from enemies, applying effects to the main weapon ranging from beneficial (like damage over time) to comical (like playing an off-key trombone effect with every attack). One even provides a significant damage boost to the main weapon for every open weapon slot, opening up the option for a main weapon-only playstyle.

[caption id="attachment_982084" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Holocure Gameplay Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

The stages themselves are bright and colorful affairs with stage-specific bosses and telegraphed danger zones appearing at regular timed intervals. While most non-boss enemies do little more than walk towards the player, the tempo of the levels, charming chiptune soundtrack, and sheer variety of enemy designs keep it from becoming rote or tedious. Especially when every run is consistently earning you more coins, which can be put towards new characters, items or upgrades.

The upgrade store has your typical suite of health, movement, and damage up, but also has options to unlock or disable specific mechanics to affect the difficulty. Increasing enemy density, restricting the number of weapons you can carry, or locking you to a single health point are all present for those wanting a challenge. But the real draw is the gacha system, which is how you unlock new characters. Sectioned into banners of 3 to 5, with a generous pity currency on each, pulling for a specific character is far less painful than actual, microtransaction-fed gacha systems. Once you get a new character, trying them out will net you even more coins towards new ones.

There are currently 38 characters, each based on the various streamers belonging to the Hololive Vtuber agency. All of them have their own signature weapons, special abilities, and three unique skills. As well as referencing or representing the streamer's personality, they all encourage particular playstyles or item synergies. One character might have a simple kit based around a gun and some damage buffs, while another might scale their damage from the area size stat or or summon damaging spikes whenever they heal. It's not just colorful, but adds an impressive degree of variety to the mechanics and encourages finding synergies with other items and weapons.

[caption id="attachment_982085" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Holocure gacha Screenshot by Siliconera[/caption]

Then there's the Holohouse mode added with Update 0.6, which lets players access an alternate map with cooking, farming, and fishing minigames. As well as allowing you to cook food that offers buffs while playing the main game, this area also acts as a timesink for additional coins earned as you buy furniture to customize your room. Various characters can join and leave your little area, dropping fish for you or just milling about. It's a cute addition and a nice distraction from the main game, while still allowing you to earn coins towards upgrades or characters if you wish.

When reviewing Idol Showdown, another Hololive fangame, I wondered if the sheer density of references would make the game less accessible or even obnoxious to the unfamiliar, and that worry still applies to Holocure. But then, Vampire Survivors itself was a hodgepodge of bootleg Castlevania vibes, jokes intentionally half or mistranslated, and references to anime popular with a certain generation of Italian children, so perhaps it's a moot point. Just don't ask what 'AsaCoco' is or why it's shaped like... that.

When Holocure first launched with only 10 characters and one level, it was a promising project to keep an eye on. Now, several updates later, its an easy recommendation even to non-fans because the foundation was solid and the style charming. Beyond the jokes and references, Holocure stands on its own as a great example of the genre, scratching the itches for unlock-hunting and build-crafting that these games do so well. And with regular updates and a passionate fanbase, it could be something really special by the time it reaches 1.0.

Holocure is immediately available for free on PC via Steam and Itch.io.

Nijisanji Shu Yamino and Kagami Hayato as TGS VR 2023 ambassadors

CESA published details about the upcoming Tokyo Game Show VR 2023 event. Some of the announcement's main highlights include the appointments of the Japanese Nijisanji Vtuber Kagami Hayato and Nijisanji EN's Shu Yamino as new ambassadors for the latest TGS VR event. The VR venue will open at the same time as the main physical event on September 21, 2023. But while the original event closes on September 24, 2023, the VR version will remain until October 1, 2023.

TGS VR 2023 will appear with more gameplay elements than the 2022 edition. Visitors will be able to choose from 25 available avatars and collect stamps by completing quests in multiple zones. After gathering enough stamps, they will be able to visit hidden areas. The venue will also contain booths from Capcom, Koei Tecmo, Konami, Square Enix, Sega, Atlus, and Bandai Namco.

The Nijisanji Vtubers Kagami Hayato and Shu Yamino will newly accompany Omega Sisters as TGS VR 2023 ambassadors. The latter is a pair of Vtubers who have been regular ambassadors of the VR event since CESA established it in 2021.

A VR device will not be required to access TGS VR 2023, as visitors will also be able to view it with regular PC monitors and mobile devices. People without VR will be able to join with Intel UHD Graphics 620 as the PC's GPU. However, if they want to use VR, the minimum requirement will be raised to Nvidia GeForce GTX1060.

Tokyo Game Show VR 2023 will be available on Windows PCs, mobile devices, and standalone Meta Quest 2 from September 21, 2023 to October 1, 2023.

Starfield Vehicles Spaceship WarpAfter finding out that Starfield completely omits any ground-based vehicles for your avatar to ride on, many players have wondered exactly why Bethesda made this design decision. Fortunately for those players, Bethesda executive producer and Starfield director Todd Howard recently addressed the matter in an interview with Bloomberg. You can find the interview posted further down this article, where you can skip to 3:00 to hear Howard's response. When Bloomberg Technology co-host Ed Ludlow asked about the absence of grounded vehicles, Howard said that although Bethesda considered the feature, he noted that it would alter the player experience. By having players traverse planets mostly on foot, Howard argues, the developers are better able to control when players can see certain points of interest. Means of transportation aren't entirely absent Of course, as Howard notes, players can ride vehicles in the form of spaceships used for traveling between planets, al...

How To Fix Suit Protection Depleted In StarfieldIf you're playing Starfield with PC, then you already know mods are one of the best things you can apply to games.      Grv Jump StarfieldStarfield uses abbreviations for many of its terminology and then does not tell you what that term means. One of the terms you may see is GRV, which will show up on the subsystems HUD of your ship or enemy ships in battle. Understanding what GRV is and how to utilize it properly is extremely important if you spend lots of time exploring or fighting pirates in space. Here's the explanation of what GRV means in Starfield and why it matters to you. What does GRV mean in Starfield? Image: PC Invasion GRV references your ship's Grav Drive subsystem, which tells how much power your ship has to jump from one system to another. The more power you have allocated to your Grav Drive, the faster it will process your jump command. Conversely, if you see a red GRV icon underneath the health bar of a ship you are fighting, you have destroyed their Grav Drive, so they cannot jump away from the battle. In addition to traveling from one system to another, your Grav Drive is hand...

Should you rush through the Main Quest in Starfield?Starfield has a solid 17-hour storyline, not including all the side quests and extra little bits you can put yourself to work on. The team spent an enormous amount of time fleshing out the world, writing voice lines, and giving each world its own environment. They have put the work in, and it really shows. Within minutes of getting into the game, the world of Starfield feels immersive and complete. However, for the first time ever, there is a New Game+ in a Bethesda game, so should you rush the main storyline or not? Should you rush through Starfield? Absolutely not. Bethesda did not write exactly 252,953 lines of dialogue (I counted) for players to smash through the game as fast as possible. The game should really be taken at the leisurely, if not erratic, pace that most RPGs are played at. While the game does feature a New Game+, this only offers a few extras you won't get on the first playthrough. However, if you rush through the first playthrough, the changes may not...
