Baldur's Gate 3 closed beta delayed but next patch is going to be big

One thing that's really set Baldur's Gate 3 apart - other than it being an utterly stupendous RPG - is how developer Larian Studios has communicated with its audience. During its early access period right up to today, the developer has been as clear and open about what it's doing and what's happening with the game as possible. With the next big patch on the horizon for the game, that's still proving true even while the open beta for the update has had to be delayed.

This new 15-inch portable monitor is perfect for the Steam Deck

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 and 5090 now releasing in 2025, leak suggests

Countless leaks and reports have all pointed towards the new Nvidia RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs arriving in late 2024, but a new claim, from an often-reliable source, now states that we may have to wait until CES 2025 to see the next generation of Nvidia graphics cards.

Many of the best graphics cards have had debuts at the world's biggest tech show, including the Nvidia Super lineup this year, but this new timeline would buck the company's recent trend if it's true. The RTX 2080, RTX 3080, and RTX 4090 all launched in September or October, with a two-year gap between them, after all. Nvidia, rightly, has stayed quiet on details up until now, so these expectations only came from leaks and insider reports.

AMD's new GPU can't even outperform Radeon RX 7900 XTX, says leak

More rumors about the next big AMD Radeon GPU launch are circling, and they're again pointing to AMD abandoning the top end of the gaming graphics card market with its forthcoming RDNA 4 architecture. In fact, according to this latest leak, not only is AMD's new GPU not coming out until 2025, but it also won't be as fast as AMD's current flagship, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.

That's not necessarily a massive problem for AMD, if it can get the pricing right. Assuming this card is priced at around the $500 mark, and it improves on AMD's currently lagging ray tracing performance, while beating whatever GPU Nvidia has in this price range at launch, this could be one of the best graphics cards, but it will be a delicate balance.

DBD cross progression and crossplay explained

Does Dead by Daylight have cross progression? There are two main questions players ask when a game is available on multiple platforms: "Can I play with friends on other platforms?" and "Can I access my save data on multiple platforms?" Known as crossplay and cross progression, these are two of the most important online features, especially in multiplayer games.

Dead by Daylight is one such game, and if you have ever seen a single post or livestream from the devs, you'll surely know that the many of the comments, even with no relation to the original post, are about the availability of these features in the horror game.      Warframe 1999 secret pays tribute to Half-Life and Gordon Freeman

Half-Life's influence on FPS games is hard to measure. You can look at Dishonored, Titanfall 2, and 4A's Metro series, and find direct comparisons with Valve's debut shooter, but more broadly, Half-Life inspired a generation of players to become game-makers. Like Doom before it, Half-Life feels like an inflection point in PC history, and so it's only fitting that Warframe 1999, the new questline in Digital Extreme's ongoing free FPS, pay homage. Buried within the Warframe 1999 playable preview that was launched during Tennocon there is a neat nod to Gordon Freeman, Valve, and the world of Black Mesa. This is one of the most-loved modern shooters paying tribute to the past.

But rising above all of these games is Frictional's Amnesia The Bunker. It's a better horror experience than Resident Evil or Silent Hill, with writing that is superior to triple-A sacred cows like The Last of Us and God of War. Frightening, punchy, and unique, it's one of the best games I've played in years and potentially one of the high points of the last decade. pikmin 4 terrariums

Re-Ment shared for the first time images of its second Terrarium Collection of Pikmin figures. There will be six different variations in total that you could get from the blind boxes, with each box costing you 1,430 JPY ($9.10).

Here's the official announcement, which showed us the lineup of new sets.

https://twitter.com/rement_official/status/1814857831885254835

The six miniature terrariums show the Pikmins in various stages of their daily life. Some of them are exploring around their area. Others are fighting off enemies. There's one that also features Oatchi, who first appeared in Pikmin 4 as a partner for the Rescue Corps and the Pikmin. Of these models, only the fourth one is capable of glowing in the dark. This one depicts the Pikmin on a night expedition.

The Pikmin games started in 2001. It's a series of puzzle and RTS games that rely on you guiding and leading Pikmin around a planet, using them to explore or clear obstacles or fight off hostile creatures. Due to their small size and simple design, they're a popular mascot in various Nintendo products such as ties and goods. For example, this is not the first time that Re-Ment has released terrariums depicting the Pikmin.

The Pikmin terrariums will come out some time in Winter 2024. Pikmin 4, the latest title in the series, is readily available on the Nintendo Switch.

Nobuyoshi Nagayama will be the director. Past works from Nagayama (in which he was a director in some capacity) include Happy Sugar Life, Uramichi Oniisan, and Ayaka. Qruppo, the developer and Japanese publisher for Nukitashi will also cooperate with Passione on the anime. As for Passione, it is an animation studio with a filmography that includes Mieruko-chan, Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf, and Higurashi: When They Cry - Sotsu.

Here are the key visuals of the main characters:

Nukitashi, which is the shortened form of Nukige Mitai na Shima ni Sunderu Watashi wa Dou Surya Ii Desuka? wuthering waves changli

Changli is now available in the Wuthering Waves gacha if you pull from the Vermillion's Ploy banner. During this time, you'll also get a higher chance of pulling four-star Resonators Taoqi, Baizhi, and Mortefi.

The Changli banner will be available in Wuthering Waves until August 14, 2024. Because she's a limited character, you can only use Radiant Tides to pull for her. Those who have played through the Wuthering Waves Version 1.1 story already had the chance to use Changli in battle, but there is also a trial that you can test out via the events page to see if you like her or not. Aside from Changli's banner, you also have a chance to pull for her weapon Blazing Brilliance. Since this is her signature weapon, this is the best Sword for her.

In game, Changli is a 5-star Fusion Sword character who is able to work as a sub-DPS due to her powerful Outro Skill and personal damage capabilities. She works the best on a Fusion team, much like fellow Fusion character Mortfi. That's not to say that Changli isn't capable of being a main DPS, of course, as you can easily build and use her in that fashion.

Wuthering Waves is readily available on the Windows PC and mobile devices. You can only get Changli in Wuthering Waves while the Vermilion's Ploy banner is active.

The next Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes update will be the Day60 patch, which will fix issues and new Always Auto and Change Rune options on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. People can immediately download it to gain access to the new version and its fixes.

The new Eiyuden Chronicle Day60 patch Always Auto option applies to battles. Instead of needing to turn on the auto-battle each time you enter a fight, it will remain off. This means someone will need to just hit a button to disable it once in a fight or turn off Always Auto to return to normal.

As for the Change Rune change in Eiyuden Chronicle, it makes it easier to adjust folks' equipment. Rabbit and Bear now noted that in your hub, you can select other people. So you aren't limited to who is there.

There are also some Switch exclusive changes in the Eiyuden Chronicle Day60 patch that updates two known issues. Apparently, after being downloaded, there will be a more stable, improved framerate. The team also noted general stability, which could relate to crashes or freezes.

Here are the full Eiyuden Chronicle Day60 patch notes:

https://twitter.com/eiyuden/status/1815425084338929739

Earlier in July 2024, Rabbit and Bear promised updates about the game and its DLC expansions. As a reminder, the last roadmap suggested the Marisa add-on would debut in August 2024.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, with Switch physical copies now available worldwide.

The Cybertruck Is Coming to Fortnite and I Don't Like It

I got the biggest laugh this morning. The Fortnite social media account shared a teaser for the debut of the Tesla Cybertruck in-game, and it showed Fishstick driving it and pulling a bus, truck, and tank. I find it funny, given the fact that we've seen video proof of it not being able to do things other trucks can like climb Hollister Hills State Vehicle Recreation Area steps, its bulletproof windows crack, and lots of other noticeable failures tied to it. Raccoons are mistaking Cybertrucks for dumpsters. Humorous initial reaction aside, I don't like it, and I think at least some of my reasons are valid.

First, I'm just generally not a fan of these types of real-world elements coming into games. I'm not a fan of this type of marketing approaches. (I hated the Mercedes-Benz car in Mario Kart too!) Of course, Epic already goes all-in on in-game advertising. We've seen them promote influencers, the NBA and NFL, movies, singers, Nerf toys, Nike shoes, Fender guitars, and other car companies like Lamborgini before. However, when it comes to the Tesla Cybertruck in Fortnite, it somehow seems especially egregious. Perhaps it is the fact that the teaser trailer for the truck involves such an extreme and glorifying portrayal, which is contradictory to some real-world footage we've seen, that repulses me and makes me even more against the crossover.

Another reason I'm not keen on the Fortnite Cybertruck crossover is because it might be paid content. Early leaks for it suggested it would be a skin someone would need to buy with V-Bucks in the Item Shop. And while this isn't confirmed, if it this does end up being the case, I just don't like it! When comes to something that is such a blatant in-game ad, it should at least be free content that we're not paying companies for the right to use. (Like I didn't care for that aforementioned Mario Kart Benz, but at least I didn't need to pay to put a character into it.) With other companies, like say Ubisoft or Square Enix, we aren't seeing them charge people for the honor of getting to see or use their in-game ads for things like Black Friday sales or KFC.

https://twitter.com/RocketLeague/status/1815386430710874530

But the blatant advertising for Tesla aside, I also don't like the Cybertruck Fortnite crossover because it just doesn't look good. The Fortnite teaser itself doesn't make it as obvious. The trailer only offers a brief glimpse of the new vehicle. However, the Rocket League teaser for the Cybertruck shows that it just doesn't look good in-game. Especially since we know how detailed and incredible car models can look in Rocket League. The polygonal approach doesn't fit in with other vehicles in the game. Many people referred to it in the reveal as the "hitbox car," and I agree. And considering that too could be a paid product, it's disheartening.

The only thing I feel like the Cybertruck Fortnite crossover would be good for is the memes. People are going to 100% take advantage of this as an opportunity to dunk on the truck and Musk. Frankly, I'll be here for that element of it. I'm just disappointed that it might also mean some people potentially wasting money on a bad skin or Rocket League car for that to happen. Not to mention it, well, giving positive feedback of any kind to what I feel like is the ugliest and most unnecessary vehicle ever.

I think the Cybertruck is a bad car and don't like it, but that's only part of why I don't like the upcoming Fortnite crossover involving it. It's even more egregious in-game advertising coming to a game packed with it. It might end up being a thing people need to pay for the honor to use. Plus, it seems like it might end up looking as bad in-game as it does in real life.

Fortnite is available on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices.

honkai star rail yunli feet

Whoa, who let the dogs out?! Why, HoYoVerse did with its most recent trailer featuring Yunli in Honkai: Star Rail! She's feet out for the summer and she's not afraid to let us know it. Or, more precisely, HoYoVerse isn't afraid to let us know it. I just wish it didn't choose Yunli to be the ambassador for the Isle of Dogs.

Let me put it out there first: I don't care about the sanctity or rights of fictional characters. Sure, I have my personal icks and squicks and all that. But bad things happening to fictional children or characters aren't going to make me clutch my pearls or demand an apology from the creator. Yunli flashing her feet at me in Honkai: Star Rail does not necessarily disgust me. However, it does make me ask the very simple question of "Why?" Why is it Yunli who is introducing herself toes-first from out of frame? Why must the game subject me to Yunli's grippers when I want to use her in battle? I can't ignore it like I can with Clara in the same game. She's pushing them at me like a Tarantino film would. Or, to be more precise, HoYoVerse is.

honkai star rail yunli feet special program
Image via HoYoVerse

It's an honest surprise to me from Honkai: Star Rail. Zenless Zone Zero has a stronger fanservice bent to it. So the framing around Yunli's paws wouldn't be out of place there. But Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, at the very least, feel like they've been a bit less, shall we say, asset-forward with its characters compared to other gacha games on the market. Yeah, there are a lot of fanservice moments and designs. But I felt the same surprise I did when it released that Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae Light Cone trailer (the one that Japanese fans literally call "an official doujinshi.")

There was backlash online about the feet when HoYoVerse first released the Yunli drip marketing for Honkai: Star Rail. People discussed her design in the context of her description and character introduction, with some questioning the feet and others claiming they're perfectly fine for a dancer. She's the same age as Yanqing, whose in-game biography blatantly states he's not of age yet. The both of them are Xianzhou natives. So numbers might be off when it comes to their age. Nonetheless, if they're not considered "of age" in-lore, they're still kids. At the time of this little controversy, I rolled my eyes. This is just the usual outrage from terminally online minors, I figured. Absolute nonsense. Yunli's design seems to take inspiration from the Dunhuang Feitian murals and dance, but it's not a one to one. Creative liberties in fantasy character designs are fine. It's a nothingburger of an issue.

But then I actually saw Yunli next to March, rather than just her on her own in the splash art. Then, I saw her animations and the way the trailer introduced her. And then I started feeling that impulsive distaste. Yunli is such a child. When I saw her splash art, I thought she would be someone closer to Rayfa from Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice or Saber from Fate/Samurai Remnant. The thing that's weird to me is how Yunli seems like a typical kid (I mean, she's not out yet, so who knows what she's like personality-wise), yet her overall design is at odds with HoYoVerse's usual way of doing things when it comes to kid characters.

People tend to compare Yunli to Clara, as Clara is also clearly a kid and walks around barefoot. It's strange that Svarog hasn't given her shoes considering she's one rusty nail away from needing to rush to Natasha's for a tetanus shot. But I digress. To my recollection though, no animation from her kit or the story ever focuses on her feet. It's just a part of her design, like Aventurine's and Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae's chest windows. Yunli, on the other hand, is show feet first, ask questions later. You cannot escape them in battle as her animations emphasize the weight of her sword and how much strength she puts in wielding it. In the trailer, she introduces herself to the team with a shot from her feet.

sparkle trailer
Image via HoYoVerse

Sparkle is another character whose design and mannerisms cater to the foot fetish crowd. It's not so obvious in the game, but her trailer features scenes that really draw focus on her toes. One memorable scene has the camera zoom in from below while Sparkle sits on a defeated mook, with her foot vying for attention from the viewer. Her teasing and playful personality matches this kind of behavior. If you've seen Jade's Ultimate, then you know she's hitting multiple interests with her animations. Nothing more to say about that IPC efficiency.

Despite all of that though, the game and marketing don't put that much focus on their dogs. In battle and even on the overworld, Clara's feet aren't that obtrusive. In-game, Sparkle's appeal seems to come more from her personality than her appearance. Jade's "dominatrix mommy" animation is very blatant fanservice, but in a different route. The reason why I, to my eternal distress, cannot mentally get past the strangeness of Yunli's design is due to her biography and her outfit.

clara and svarog

The key difference between her and fellow kid Clara is that Clara's design and animations never feel like they're meant to titillate. However, it's getting incredibly hard to look at Yunli's splash art without noticing little things like the extra-exposed midriff or the thigh fat around the "Classic Honkai: Star Rail 5-star Thigh Garter." I will note that I saw some Dunhuang Feitian hanfu for kids that didn't seem traditional, but featured a higher midriff and shoes. Yunli not wearing shoes places her closer to the "normal" version of the outfit. Her having a short skirt is likely due to the fact she's a Xianzhou girl and is cursed to have that kind of bottom.

HoYoVerse comprises of Chinese people. Chinese martial artists fight without shoes or socks on, and there are a lot of Asian cultural dances that require the performers to be in bare feet. The hard camera angles on her feet in her animations and in the trailer might truly be an unfortunate coincidence since there's nothing that odd about them. Heck, Jade also puts her best foot forward in her Ultimate so technically, you can't escape that either if you have her.

I admit I looked up foot fetish communities in Chinese to see if they exist and they do. Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with Chinese sites and slang to have a good grasp on the popularity of this particular interest. But, as a company comprising of otaku, I find it naive to believe that HoYoVerse designed this character and didn't expect that it would invite keen interest from a certain crowd. Characters with bare feet are cool. But my surprise stems from the emphasis on a part that is a commonly fetishized area despite Yunli's fictional youth.

black swan
Image via HoYoVerse

This isn't a knock on fanservice, mind you. I quite appreciate the fanservice-y designs of characters like Ruan Mei, Topaz, Black Swan, and Dr. Ratio. I've favorited that Light Cone trailer of Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae chained up while his ears twitch and the camera zooms in on his chest window.

Yunli's status as a kid and a dancer are what people tend to bring up to refute negativity about her design. I agreed with the dancer part as well. At least, until I saw how, unlike Nilou or Yun Jin in Genshin Impact, Yunli's animations had very little "dance" aspect to them. As mentioned earlier, Yunli's design takes inspiration from the Dunhuang dance. But I'm curious as to why it didn't just save the Dunhuang Feitian aesthetic for another character and incorporate those moves into their kit if it didn't weave it into her animations. Maybe I'm missing something though since I'm hardly a learned expert on the subject. I hope then that HoYoVerse releases a video in the future describing its creative process.

Personally, I think the alterations to Yunli, as well as the overall design, are cute from a visual perspective. But I can't shake off the oddity of the optics. We have a character who's explicitly a minor in-universe, wearing a dancer-inspired outfit that's altered to show more skin. Her weapon of choice is a greatsword. But she walks around in bare feet due to the aforementioned dancer inspiration of the design. Despite that, her animations seem to reference something other than dance. I understand the cinematic reasons behind her Ultimate, even disregarding a possible shoutout to Buddyfight. That doesn't dispell how different the framing is from other Ultimates in the game. There are a lot of strange choices here. It's just not something I expected from HoYoVerse.

yunli
Image via HoYoVerse

Everything about Yunli—her design, her bare feet (especially with the context of her real-world inspiration), the possible Buddyfight Gargantua Punisher reference—literally would not have made me bat an eye if she was an older sister figure to Yanqing. It's when I compare her to the other kids in Honkai: Star Rail that I found her design bizarre. The feet aren't the real issue. Rather, it's odd how Honkai: Star Rail was good at avoiding any potential implications with its younger characters yet seemed to really put the spotlight on marketing Yunli in this way.

Since most of Yunli's animations are pretty normal, it really is a nothingburger of an issue. By the time she comes out, I'm hoping that it'll all be a misunderstanding or a coincidence. We only have two videos of her so far, and we haven't even seen her trailers, after all. Hey, maybe you're truly meant to think of Yunli as a martial artist kid with Dunhuang Feitian inspirations in her outfit. In which case, let those dogs roam free, Yunli, and I pray that I can soon expel the negative-online-experience worms from my brain.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Yunli will appear in Honkai: Star Rail during the first phase of Version 2.4, which should go live on July 31, 2024.

Zenless Zone Zero Zhu Yuan Banner

HoYoverse released new details for the upcoming gacha banner featuring Zenless Zone Zero character Zhu Yuan. It is set to launch on July 24, 2024, alongside the banner for her featured W-Engine, and features two A-rank Agents as focus units.

Ben Bigger is a Belobog Defense unit who deals Fire damage. Nicole is a Cunning Hares Support who also deals Ether damage.

Zhu Yuan's featured W-Engine, which functions like weapons or Light Cones do in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, is the Riot Suppressor MK VI. It will be available on its own banner at the same time. The two focus A-rank W Engines will be W-Engines The Vault (Support) and Big Cylinder (Defense), which would both work for Nicole and Ben.

In addition to the banner reveal, there is a new trailer for Zhu Yuan. It highlights her personality, rather than her gameplay. You can watch it below:

Honkai: Star Rail Relics Character Recommendations, Filtering Added in 2.4

HoYoVerse shared its latest Voice of the Galaxy update radio details, and it confirmed enhanced Honkai: Star Rail Relics filtering and character recommendations options. This is designed to make it easier to find equipment both in the standard Relics menu and in the Caverns of Corrosion and Simulated Universe areas.

With Relic filtering, Honkai: Star Rail will now let people search and save up to 30 schemes based on character recommendations. When this happens, you can search for a character, possibly select a set and rarity, mention main and subsidiary stats, and then create the filter scheme and save it. It is also possible to set quick lock or quick discard when doing so. This will allow people to go back and quickly check to see if newly acquired Relics earned from Caverns of Corrosion or other means would better suit people based on predetermined criteria.

Being able to go through this type of equipment based on subsidiary stats in general is new to 2.4 as well. It is one of the new sorting options. The game will also highlight in gold when the main and sub stats in a Relic are ones recommended for the character. For example, in a sample screenshot HoYoVerse showed how the CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG subsidiary stats were highlighted.

Finally, there are now three areas in Honkai: Star Rail in which checking details about the Relics lets you see character recommendations. So say someone selects the Caverns of Corrosion section, then taps on the Relics icons to see more information. It will also show recommended characters for those sets. In the example screenshot HoYoVerse shared with us, we see the Path of Dreamdive Cavern of Corrosion, which has the Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters and Watchmaker Master of Dream Machinations sets, and the game recommends Acheron, Aventurine, and Dr. Ration.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and 2.4 will debut on July 31, 2024.
