New DBD patch causes generator chaos and game UI player backlash

One thing that's been endlessly surprising about playing Dead by Daylight has been how quickly it's become a cozy experience for me. Even though it's full of blood, screaming, and infuriating Megs not doing generators - it's still found a way into my heart and has become almost a comfort game. That experience has been rocked recently, due in large part to DBD's latest patch which has landed with more than its fair share of issues.

Foxhole has always been one of the most unique games in the MMO space.      New space strategy game The Crust debuts to positive reviews

If games are especially good at one thing, it's testing players' ability to figure out survival methods in harsh environments. Strategy projects like Frostpunk, Homeworld, Against the Storm, and Manor Lords all take place in settings, whether stretches of unforgiving wilderness or the lifeless outer reaches of space, that demand careful planning. Their premise is a natural fit for the genre, lending an inherent drama to the logistical challenges of founding and taking care of groups of people. It also seems to be a popular one, given that new space strategy game The Crust, which takes place on the surface of the moon, is already attracting a healthy player base and positive reviews on Steam.

Playing World of Warcraft as a tank is a tough proposition. Late last year saw the launch of a remastered version of the 2001 Stronghold in the form of Stronghold Definitive Edition. Though the work that creator FireFly Studios put into making the classic strategy game look and feel much more modern makes it a solid choice for players, the 2013 Stronghold HD is a slightly less overhauled — and more immediately nostalgic — version of the original that's well worth a look as well. Even better, anyone who's looking to pick up a genre standout that rivalled contemporaries like Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and Homeworld can do so for very cheap, with Stronghold HD currently discounted to less than $2 on Steam.

Grab AMD's fastest Ryzen X3D gaming CPU for its lowest price ever

AMD has been steadily slightly reducing the price of its current crop of 7000 series CPUs, but Amazon Prime Day has added an extra little discount on the company's top-tier chip. This AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D deal nets you the most powerful X3D chip the company makes for just $459.99, which is $240 cheaper than its MSRP at launch.

With features shared by several of the best gaming CPUs you can buy, the Ryzen 9 7950X packs in 16 cores and is boosted - particularly when it comes to gaming performance - by the addition of an extra 64MB of L3 cache that's attached right on top of one of the main chips. That's the part that sets AMD's X3D CPUs apart from its standard chips.

AMD's new Ryzen 5 9600X CPU just appeared on sale, and it's not cheap

Although AMD's new Ryzen 9000 CPUs aren't scheduled to be released until the end of July, one of them has already just appeared for sale on Amazon, possibly giving us an indication of pricing. The new six-core AMD Ryzen 5 9600X is listed for sale on the Canadian version of the site for a price of $475.51 CA, which works out at around $347 if you do a straight currency conversion.

This new CPU's predecessor, the Ryzen 5 7600X, currently has a spot on our guide to the best gaming CPU, but only because it's had a drop in price. When it first launched, it cost $299, which is a lot of money for a six-core processor. This AMD chip now goes for just $184.99, meaning the 9600X at the Amazon Canada price represents an 87.6% price increase, and we doubt it's going to be anywhere near 87.6% faster.

digimon adventure exhibition

A Digimon Adventure exhibition will take place in Tokyo and Osaka this summer. This is to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original show. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Toei first announced this exhibition back in May 2024 with a new promotional video. As a reminder, the exhibition will be at Ikebukuro Sunshine City (in Tokyo) from August 10 to 25, 2024. Then, it will be at the Shinsaibashi Opa (in Osaka) from October 5 to 20, 2024.

Everyone will receive Agumon and Gabumon cards as a present. These cards are exclusive to the exhibition and have a watermark on them to denote that. You'll also be able to get a special Digimon comic book. People will also get the opportunity to purchase a CD with the best songs from Digimon history (between 2015 and 2023 anyway). It'll cost 2800 JPY ($18). The CD will come with a random bromide of one of the Digimon partners from the show and tri movies.

At the exhibition, you can check out original concept art, storyboards, animation cels, and scripts. There will also be photo spots for you to take pictures, as well as a display that'll let you look everything that's happened in the world of Digimon since Digimon Adventure first appeared on air 25 years ago.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai Prequel Manga Second Part About to Start

The first part of the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai manga prequel focusing on the hero Avan is complete. A second part will reportedly release in the November 2024 issue of the V Jump magazine. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

According to leaker ryokutya2089, the second part of the manga Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - The Hero Avan and The Hellfire Dark Lord will be the Teacher or Tutor Arc. Since Avan appears as a hero tutor in the original Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai manga, the new arc might show how he came to be a tutor after the defeat of the Dark Lord Hadlar by his party.

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken - Yuusha Avan to Gokuen no Maou (or Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - The Hero Avan and The Hellfire Dark Lord in English) is a prequel to the original Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai set 15 years prior to the events of the original manga. The prequel focuses on the defeat of the Dark Lord by the hero Avan and his party.

The prequel manga started serialization in September 21, 2020 in the V Jump magazine to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original manga, and ahead of the release of the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai new anime series in October 3, 2020.

Additionally, a video game adaptation retelling the manga and anime series titled Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai released in October 13, 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

genshin impact navia ep

HoYoVerse has uploaded a new EP for Genshin Impact, focusing on Navia and Fontaine. You can listen to three different tracks from the Fontaine region while enjoying the sights with Navia.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asZfJ3hxOmA

The three tracks are "Il Nome della Rosula," "Le fleuve secret," and "Pilot's Rest." All three tracks appeared from Fontaine's debut in Genshin Impact. As for Navia, she's available right now as part of Version 4.8, with Nilou as the other character available on the banner. Their weapons are also re-running alongside them. The 4-stars that are on rate-up during this banner are Kaveh, Ningguang, and Kirara. While HoYoVerse has released a summer outfit for Nilou, the other character with a costume is Kirara. Time will tell if Navia gets a skin in a future update.

Previous Genshin Impact EP videos have focused on different characters and regions. For example, Liyue's EPs starred characters like Ganyu and Yelan. Meanwhile, one for Inazuma focused on Ayaka. These EPs generally are the same as the Navia one, in which you listen to the track while the character walks around the region.

Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. Navia and Nilou are available for re-run until August 6, 2024. Nilou's Breeze of Sabaa costume will be at a discounted price until August 26, 2024.

genshin impact neuvillette nerf

In response to overwhelming negative feedback from the fans, HoYoVerse will roll back the nerf it gave Neuvillette in Genshin Impact. Players will also receive 1600 Primogems as an apology.

For reference, as of Version 4.8, HoYoVerse, "fixed" the "abnormal rotation speed" for Neuvillette's Charged Attack. One of the reasons why Neuvillette is one of the best Hydro DPS characters in the game is due to this Charged Attack. Players can kind of spin him around, even when he's only attacking a single target, in order to deal more damage due to the way the ticks work.

According to the Tweet, HoYoVerse had implemented the fix in order to standardize the Neuvillette Experience for all players. Some players, depending on the platform they played Genshin Impact on, could not achieve what some people could do through outer influence like mouse settings. Using Neuvillette to his full potential would also result in visual blurriness. However, once the fix went live, players reported that the Neuvillette nerf in Genshin Impact made him really clunky to use.

Chinese players in particular were livid due to the fact that Neuvillette is a limited 5-star. People likely used real-world money in order to get him, especially since he is one of the best DPS characters in the game. They did so specifically due to his insane Charged Attack. So nerfing him felt like HoYoVerse cheated people of their money. Like with the Ayaka situation, some Chinese players were even reporting HoYoVerse for consumer fraud.

HoYoVerse will roll back this fix in a later update. More information on when will come out soon and we will likely get the 1600 Primogems then. This is not the first time that HoYoVerse needed to fix a character or rollback a change. The same thing happened when it tried to fix Yae Miko's Skill's auto aim, as well as when Zhongli first came out. Granted, the Zhongli situation was a little different, as his kit was very weak compared to the way HoYoVerse advertised him.

Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.

Capcom and Sushiro formally revealed the Street Fighter collaboration campaigns that will take place in the latter's sushi restaurants. The tie-up will run at Sushiro's Japanese outlets from late July 2024 and throughout August 2024.

This collaboration will consist of two separate campaigns based on Street Fighter II and Street Fighter 6. The former will have people order Avocado Red Spice sushi with Salmon or Longfin Tuna that will come with a random Street Fighter II character pick. The back side of this pick will have a QR code that people can scan to play a Street Fighter II-themed minigame on their smartphones.

The other campaign will involve the Setouchi Lemon Brulee Cheesecake. Those who order this cake will receive a random sticker featuring Street Fighter 6 characters. The back side of this sticker will contain a serial code that people can input to enter a sweepstake. The latter will reward a set of three sushi plates decorated with Street Fighter 6 versions of Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li to 150 lucky winners.

Street Fighter is not the only game franchise by Capcom to have a collaboration campaign with Sushiro. The Japanese sushi restaurant chain had previously held a Monster Hunter campaign in March-April 2024. It also held a tie-up with HoYoverse's Genshin Impact earlier in February-March 2024.

The Street Fighter collaboration campaign in Sushiro outlets across Japan will run from July 24, 2024, until September 1, 2024. The event in each outlet may end earlier if it has run out of bonus item stock.

I Still Don't Have My 180 Zenless Zone Zero Free Pulls

We always see the gacha game ads when we're scrolling social media or browsing online. Developers and publishers promise ridiculous amounts of "free pulls" on banners. Given we all know this is the way to get the best characters in these types of games, it's enticing. However, Zenless Zone Zero is frustrating, as it is one of those games where while you'll hear about 180 free pulls, it genuinely feels like it takes forever to get them. I've been playing since launch on July 4, 2024, and I haven't gotten them yet!

Now, to be fair, it is possible to get 180 free pulls in Zenless Zone Zero. This isn't a case of false advertising. However, it is a situation where people need to be looking at the fine print. Part of that is because 100 of those are free pulls. These are done on the character and W-Engine banners. These can end up being a mixture of limited and Star-Studded Cast standard ones. Given the prevalence of B-Rank and A-Rank W-Engines flooding both, odds are you'll end up with more of those weapons than you will A-Rank and S-Rank agents. (There is a pity system at 90 pulls on both, and the standard banner does guarantee you an S-Rank unit in your first 50 pulls upon starting the game as a bonus for beginners.) The remaining Boopons are the currency used on the Bangboo Channel Signal Searches for those supporting characters.

So right away, you need to know that the division means you aren't just getting chances at playable characters, which is probably what you'd expect and want from that "180 free pulls" offer in Zenless Zone Zero. Right away, it's disappointing. I knew that going in, so I wasn't feeling as bad about that part as it took forever for more Encrypted Master Tapes for the limited banner and Polychromes I could put toward it rolled in as I played. But I had friends who aren't as familiar with gacha games, but got lured in by the art style, expressing concerns. I can't blame them! Clarity is important with something like this.

But there isn't just a lack of clarity and forthrightness when it comes to the division of the 180 free pulls in Zenless Zone Zero at times. It can also be about the "how" and "when." Some of these are tied to login events. Those are limited-time affairs, and they require someone to log-in daily. So if you don't catch those, you miss 30 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons. They also mean you have to stick with the game to be around for all of them as they run until August 13, 2024, which is a bummer.

I Still Don't Have My 180 Zenless Zone Zero Free Pulls
Image via HoYoVerse

Combine that with another 40 general gacha pulls via Encrypted Master Tapes and Master Tapes, 65 Bangboo Boopons, and 1,600 Polychromes tied to the Road to Proxy Greatness event, and that's another major hit. You actually need to get invested to earn all of those. That's because it is tied to the Inter-Knot level that only builds as you play by going through campaign missions, optional commissions, and runs through VR matches to get materials. This takes hours. Again, as I write this, I've been playing since launch. I still haven't hit level 30 and gotten my last 1,600 Polychromes and 20 Boopons.

All this ties into yet another overarching issue with Zenless Zone Zero: pacing. I talked about this before. It takes a substantial amount of time to unlock all of the major features in the game. I've played Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and even some of Honkai Impact 3rd. I definitely feel, at the very least, that it took me way fewer hours to unlock everything I wanted and needed in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. By the end of my first week playing, I was set. Two weeks later, and I feel sometimes like I'm still missing out with Zenless Zone Zero

As a result, it really feels like HoYoVerse is abusing the "180 free pulls" line with Zenless Zone Zero. Even when the company does break it down a bit, so you can more clearly see it is divided into free pulls and Boopons.

Zenless Zone Zero is available for free for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Zenless Zone Zero Don't Get Greedy

A new event is coming to Zenless Zone Zero, called Don't Get Greedy. The event focuses on the Snake Duel – Clash game found within the Arcade on Sixth Street and starts on July 19, 2024.

Players participating in the Don't Get Greedy event will be able to play 2v2 matches of Snake Duel – Clash against other players through online matchmaking. The game is the classic phone game Snake with a multiplayer component, where one team must have a higher total snake length than the other before time runs out. Winners of these matches will receive 800 Snaky Vouchers and the losing team will get 500 instead.

Snaky Vouchers earned in the Don't Get Greedy event in Zenless Zone Zero can be exchanged for various rewards. These include Polychromes, Boopons and upgrade materials, although other rewards are promised. These can be redeemed within the event store. Voucher counts will be reset at the end of the event on July 26, 2024.

In order to participate in the Don't Get Greedy event, players must have reached Inter-Knot Level 15 and completed the Scarlet Invitation Agent Commission.

This event will run alongside another limited time event, Friendship Supervision, which is currently running until August 5, 2024. Unlike this event, which is exclusive to the Arcade, Friendship Supervision adds limited time story commissions where players can earn Bangboo related rewards.

Zenless Zone Zero is out now for PC, PS5 and mobiles devices, while the Don't Get Greedy event takes place on July 19-26, 2024.

VShojo's Zentreya Wants to Fund a Vtuber Debut

VShojo Vtuber Zentreya announced on social media that she would "want to try" funding an individual's Vtuber debut. At the moment, this potential project seems to still be in the development phase, as she noted it is something she considered "for quite awhile."

Zentreya first brought up potentially funding a Vtuber ahead of a debut on July 14, 2024. At the time, she outlined what she'd potentially want to provide for a newcomer. Some of the things she would fund would be assets, the character sheet, the design, the model art, and rigging of the model. In her follow-up messages, she also clarified that she would personally pay for everything if this does happen. She also noted that people who are just getting started can get "advice for free."

https://twitter.com/zentreya/status/1813458561365684612

This comes as VShojo opened auditions for both its English and Japanese branches. The notice for Japanese Vtubers went out at the very beginning of July 2024. Meanwhile, the English call went out over a week after that.

Zentreya started out as an independent Vtuber back in November 2017. She joined VShojo three years later. She was one of the company's founding members alongside Apricot the Lich (Froot), Hime Hajime, Ironmouse, and Projekt Melody.

SNK May Be Teasing Vice and Mature for KOF XV

SNK shared a silhouette of the KOF XV Evo 2024 DLC reveal, and it could be Vice and Mature. While the image is combined into one black shadow, it almost seems to look like two characters are overlapping on top of each other.

Here is SNK's announcement on social media. As pointed out by a user named Lyraaaaaaa, the shadows near the characters' heads are a clear distinction. Mature is taller than Vice and wears her blonde hair in a ponytail with exaggerated bangs. Meanwhile, Vice is slightly shorter and has short, brown hair. Both women wear matching outfits with frilled cuffs, which explains why the arms match. Also, they each wear skirts with slits on opposite sites, which would make it look like one skirt for the silhouette. Finally, as both are Orochi descendants who work for Rugal Bernstein and appear on the same team in past entries.

https://twitter.com/SNKPofficial/status/1813393181553152494

The last KOF game both Vice and Mature appeared in was The King of Fighters XIV. They were a part of Yagami Team with Iori. Likewise, both of them were paired up with him in KOF XIII. However, on occasion they do work with others, such as when the two were on the Mature Ladies Team with Vanessa.

It's actually been a while since a new KOF XV DLC character appeared. The last one was Hinako Shijo in November 2023. Before that, Duo Lon joined in September 2023.

The King of Fighters XV is immediately available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Screenshot of Neuvillette in battle in Genshin Impact

When HoYoVerse announced the 4.8 Genshin Impact update was live, it also noted that a Neuvillette bug fix that nerfs the amount of damage he does in certain circumstances appeared among the latest changes. The developer also noted that every player received 100 Primogems as compensation for this bug.

Specifically, the Neuvillette nerf in Genshin Impact applies to his Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment. After charging up up and unleashing what is essentially a water cannon, it would be possible to spin the character around for a greater AOE effect. This has been present and normal for us since he debuted as a playable character on September 27, 2023

At the one minute mark of this Zhongli Unbreakable Shield video, you can see Neuvillette's range and speed ahead of 4.8.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym1IZoT1b3s&ab_channel=ZhongliUnbreakableShield

And this Engineering Plastics video showed Neuvillette dealing 1.5 million in damage. (Spoiler alert, as this example shows the Everlasting Lord of Arcane Wisdom: Shouki no Kami, the Prodigal Sumeru boss fight.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMIA1XfYdEY&ab_channel=EngineeringPlastics

Here is the text from the full message sent out to players in Genshin Impact about the Charged Attack: Equitable Judgment fix.

"Dear Traveler,

There is an issue whereby Neuvillette could rotate at an unusually high speed when casting his Charged Attack, resulting in an abnormal attack range under specific circumstances. This issue has been fixed. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused in your gaming experience and have prepared the below compensation for you. Please make sure to claim it in time."

As for the Scope of Compensation notice in the official update notes, HoYoVerse noted,

"Bug Fix Compensation for the issue whereby Neuvillette could rotate at an unusually high speed when casting his Charged Attack, resulting in an abnormal attack range and other issue fix compensation: Travelers who have reached Adventure Rank 5 or above by 2024/07/17 06:00 (UTC+8)."

As for the 100 Primogems for the Neuvillette Genshin Impact bug fix, that is in every players' inbox. As long as you were at Adventure Rank 5 as of July 17, 2024, you can claim it. However, the announcement noted people should read and redeem that credit from their in-game mail by July 20, 2024.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and Neuvillette's last rerun appeared in April 2024.
