Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
The near-constant chatter about all things AI is almost starting to make the revolutionary technology seem mundane – but not this week. A new rumor that Apple – yes, Apple – might be finally dipping its tech toes into AI waters has set the innovation-obsessed world on its ear.

It might mean that Apple is ready to join Microsoft, Google, OpenAI and others in the fast-moving chatbot space. So wiill Apple produce an 'Apple GPT'? It's unclear, but we've been digging into the details and exploring the possibilities, all while preparing for what will surely be the biggest story of next week: Samsung Unpacked.

As I write this, I’m packing for South Korea to attend Samsung’s first hometown Unpacked event, at which we're expecting to see new foldable phones, wearables, tablets, and maybe more. And I've barely scratched the surface of all that went on this week (Star Wars exclusive, anyone?), so let’s get to it…

I started regularly playing competitive online games in 2007, with the launch of Halo 3. Back then, participating in in-game voice chat was harrowing for a 17-year-old girl whose voice betrayed her gender and her youth.      Avowed release date speculation, gameplay, trailers, and more

When is the Avowed release date? Taking place in the same universe as Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity series, this RPG is a return to a fantasy setting in quite some time for the Microsoft-owned developer, after its previous few games took us to space, a back garden, and 16th century Bavaria.

Of course, with an ambitious RPG game that borrows a lot from the best first-person adventures, Avowed has changed a lot since its original development. It has moved away from a massive open world romp, instead adopting a structure similar to The Outer Worlds. So as the Avowed release date gets nearer, let's dive into the world of Eora once more with a different perspective and see what is in store for us.

The Witcher Remake release date speculation

When is The Witcher Remake release date? Given that this remake of the classic PC RPG game has only recently been announced, it's far too early to tell when exactly you can play it. However, some of you may want to know more about the ambitious remake of the first Witcher adventure and if it's the best place to hop into the series.

The original was far from the best PC game ever on release, but it was a fan favorite, so perhaps a remake with more polish will put it over that threshold. While the original RPG game was made by CD Projekt Red using BioWare's Aurora Engine, The Witcher Remake is instead "being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5" by Fool's Theory. The Polish development studio also assists Larian with 'gameplay and tools programming support' for Baldur's Gate 3 and previously assisted People Can Fly with 'level design, meshing, and program support' for Outriders. Several veteran staff who helped make The Witcher will be part of this project, and CD Projekt Red will provide 'full creative supervision'.

With the news that Assassin's Creed Mirage won't get any post-launch DLC, we of the Electronic Wireless Show podcast are wondering: what are some good games that only need playing once? Not out of a lack of enjoyment or interest, but because they were so satisfying that they left nothing else to want. Or because it would be too hard to recapture the joy of a first playthrough. Or maybe because they just ended really damn well. Whatever the reasoning, join us as we ponder our favourite games that we've never returned to.

Based on the shooter series of the same name, the Borderlands film now has an official release date: August 9th, 2024. The action-comedy adaptation wrapped principal shooting in 2021, but it's been somewhat stuck in post-production limbo ever since with several rounds of reshoots pushing out the release further than expected.

This comes after reports that co-writer Craig Mazin - best known as the showrunner behind HBO's The Last Of Us and Chornobyl - removed his name from the project in favour of a pseudonym. More recently, Mazin confirmed to Variety that the pen name reports were false and he's instead "not a credited writer" on Borderlands at all anymore. Mazin is instead focusing on The Last Of Us' second season.

The Borderlands was mostly directed by Eli Roth, known for his work on the Hostel films and Cabin Fever. Roth was reportedly busy during reshoots, however, so studio Lionsgate enlisted the help of Tim Miller, the director behind Deadpool, to helm the project for a few weeks.

But the team have announced their next project and - surprise - they're putting on a happy face with Fruitbus, a joyful open world game about running a food truck. Crime O'Clock is a game that should (apologies in advance) tick (sorry) a lot of boxes for me. There's a time-travelling detective story at the heart of it, in which you and a very Minority Report-style AI work together to stop crimes that will disrupt the one true timeline throughout history, and it's all played out on gorgeous black and white tableaus like Adriaan de Jongh's wonderful Hidden Folks. You'll rewind and fast forward time to plot suspicious movements, track stolen objects as they move across town, and work out who (or what) is causing all this chaos. I'm having good fun with it, but I do wish it would stop whisking me away from its lovely maps to go and complete yet another tedious mini-game.

The Asus ROG Ally has once again made itself impossible to write about without also mentioning the Steam Deck. Its latest BIOS update - out now via the MyAsus app – includes a fix that allows the handheld Windows PC to correctly run in its fastest, power-hungriest Turbo mode when connected to sufficiently high-wattage, third-party docking stations and USB-C hubs. In other words, it now works with more of the best Steam Deck docks.

The Steam Sim Fest is the latest genre-specific event, discounting dozens of games about emerging cities, dad hobbies, tactical warfare, and other stimulating simulations. Heavy hitters such as Disney Dreamlight Valley and the newest Bus Simulator are enjoying nice discounts, but as always, some hidden gems require a little bit of scrolling. The sales last until July 24th, so here are some good old recommendations from the event.

Surprise! Lakeburg Legacies is a hybrid between village management and mediaeval matchmaking , and it's out now with a 15% sale bringing the price down to £16.50/$19.50. Love is almost as hard-to-manage as the economy, but worry not, a soothing storybook aesthetic should make this one slightly less stressful than couple's therapy and/or mayoral duties.

Wobbly person sim Human: Fall Flat has a hefty 70% discount and is currently £4.80/$6.50. To celebrate the puzzle-platformer's seventh anniversary, the team are also sharing some mysterious news tomorrow. That's in addition to a new level coming in August, so look forward to more clumsy flailing.

I can't remember the last time I struggled so much to get through a game.

You misunderstand. I'm not saying ΔV: Rings Of Saturn is a chore or grind. I found it hard because any time I boot it up, I can get lost for hours just playing it. Not trying to win, not following the story, not looking for (ugh) "progression". Just mining, exploring, idly drifting through the void. It is a game I don't want to exhaust because I'm enjoying it too much. I went back in "for a quick dive" twice during this intro.

It doesn't have Content. It's not one of those compulsive, manipulative forever games. You could barge efficiently through it, finding probably all its secrets and items as fast as possible. That wouldn't be wrong, exactly, but it's missing the point: this is a game to be savoured, not consumed.

New D3 Publisher Game Based on Mobile Game Ad YEAH YOU WANT THOSE GAMES RIGHT SO HERE YOU GO NOW LET'S SEE YOU CLEAR THEM

D3 Publisher and Monkeycraft released a new minigame collection based on the misleading ads you see for mobile games online. It is called YEAH! YOU WANT "THOSE GAMES," RIGHT? SO HERE YOU GO! NOW, LET'S SEE YOU CLEAR THEM!. It is also possible to take part in Rank-Up Challenges with people worldwide to place in the Rankings for them. It also parodies these games' gacha elements.

This minigame collection based on mobile game ads features stages based on those situations. One example involves getting cars out of a packed parking lot by moving them in one of two directions. Another involves sending a stickman into rooms in a tower to defeat enemies at a lower number than him. A third involves pulling pins in the correct order in a room to ensure your character gets the treasure, but isn't hurt by an enemy. Some stages involve moving liquid in test tubes around so only one color is in each one. There does not appear to be any stages based on the one where you would save a dog from being attacked by bees by drawing the correct shape to block the hole.

Here's a gallery of screenshots showing some stages from YEAH! YOU WANT "THOSE GAMES," RIGHT? SO HERE YOU GO! NOW, LET'S SEE YOU CLEAR THEM!
[gallery size="full" ids="974010,974011,974012,974013,974014,974015" link="file"]

The description noted players will earn coins for completing stages. These can be used at the Gotcha to get plates and titles to customize your profile.

YEAH! YOU WANT "THOSE GAMES," RIGHT? SO HERE YOU GO! NOW, LET'S SEE YOU CLEAR THEM! is now available on PCs. Monkeycraft previously worked on We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie and Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series.

Final Fantasy 14 Exercise Video

Square Enix released a Final Fantasy XIV exercise video. The Eorzean Aetherobics video puts us through a series of rigorous movements, all of which are based on emote animations from the game.

The Eorzean Aetherobics exercise video is mostly based on emotes from Final Fantasy XIV, although a few other animations are included. These poses include obvious choices such as Stretch, the Yo! Dance, Sundrop Dance and Manderville Dance, alongside stranger choices such as Point and Overhead Blade Block. Square Enix have also recommended variations on the routine on the official website, as well as additional options not seen in the video such as the Ball Dance and Ritual Prayer.

The Eorzean Aetherobics exercise video was created in collaboration with RENAISSANCE INC, a fitness company. RENAISSANCE operate a range of sports clubs and health programs across Japan. According to Square Enix, the goal was to encourage players who may also be working from home to get more active. Final Fantasy VII Remake Concept Art of Cloud in a Dress Appears

Square Enix often shares concept art from both the original Final Fantasy VII and FFVII Remake, and the latest features Cloud in a dress. In addition to both colored and uncolored concept art, there are screenshots of the character model in-game both while walking around and appearing in a cinematic scene in the outfit.

While Cloud can acquire three possible dress options in Final Fantasy VII Remake, compared to the original game, the concept art only looks at the most basic option. This is the dress you get if you don't finish any side quests in Chapter 9 before heading to Don Corneo's to rescue Tifa.

We often see the version of Cloud in a dress show up both in games and the real world. For example, the short-lived Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier offered a cosmetic of that outfit. It was based on the original game's design. There's also a Play Arts Kai figure of him in one of the more elaborate dresses you can get from the "Burning Thighs," "A Dynamite Body," and "The Party Never Stops" quests.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.

Yoshitaka Amano Will Create The Last of Us 10th Anniversary Art

A Cook and Becker campaign for a piece of Yoshitaka Amano The Last of Us art is fully funded. The company opened pre-orders for the campaign on July 20, 2023. The goal was to fully fund the $72,871 project and create prints and posters. It passed $164% funding by reaching $119,533 as of time of writing.

The Yoshitaka Amano The Last of Us art will be an original piece of Joel and Ellie. A brief video appeared alongside it with Amano saying, "Please look forward to it. I'm going to give it my best." However, as this is a project to fund its creation and the prints, there's no concept art to suggest how the finished piece might look. Cook and Becker will share the final design in the middle of September 2023.

The cheapest option to get one is a premium poster of it. It will be limited to 2,000 hand-numbered prints and costs $49 unframed. The most expensive was a hand-signed deluxe edition, only 30 of which were available. It sold out. The premium art print version will be $249 and is limited to 750. The deluxe art print is limited to 370 and costs $299. It will feature "screen-printed embellishments." Orders are open until September 5, 2023 or supplies run out.

The Last of Us first appeared on the PS3 in June 2013. A PS4 port appeared a year later. Following the release of The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020, a remake called The Last of Us Part I showed up on the PS5 and PC.

Yoshitaka Amano The Last of Us art is expected to ship in September 2023.
