Enter the Dragon Chinese games showcase kicks off today

This weekend is the kickoff for the first-ever Enter the Dragon showcase on Steam, which will feature more than a hundred games from Chinese developers that span just about every conceivable genre, from city-building games to FPS games. The festival runs April 22-29, with a special kick-off event scheduled for tonight at 7pm PDT / 10pm EDT / 3am GMT.

There are some familiar faces featured in the festival, like action-FPS game Bright Memory: Infinite and the expansive industrial sim Dyson Sphere Program. However, there are a host of games we're seeing for the first time, too - SCP: Secret Files is an immersive sim and puzzle game based on the long-running community speculative fiction site, while Outpost is a multiplayer FPS game that challenges you to build and defend bases in a tower-defence/RTS hybrid.

City-building game Ballads of Hongye is one that caught our attention, too: it's a settlement management game set in an idyllic rural village in medieval China. You're a young lord who has recently taken ownership of the lands, and you have to complete time-limited challenges as you manage your territories in order to impress a board of hard-nosed judges.

Co-op Minecraft speedrun drops the record under two minutes

Minecraft speedrunning is a world full of rules and chaos, whether you're going for solo or co-op records. The general gist is to try dig through the sandbox game as fast as possible, all while adhering to the rules of whichever category you're going for. There are a bunch of different ones, but all of them have you embodying the Sonic the Hedgehog spirit: gotta go fast.

YouTuber M8use and a team of other players all got together to conquer the game in under two minutes without glitches, and the whole thing is up in a video now. The video is over seven minutes long, but the first five minutes serve as an explanation for the run itself, which begins at 5:10. As M8use explains, this run is built for one specific Minecraft seed on the Bedrock edition of the game.

The video shows the viewpoints of four of the five players in splitscreen. Each of them has a different role to fulfil, and it's a hectic thing to watch. If you want the full experience, it's probably worth picking one side and just watching that one. Watching Minecraft being completed in under two minutes, no matter how many people are involved, is incredibly strange to watch.

Here's where Xur is in Destiny 2 today

Xûr is Destiny 2's Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game's most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you're a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That's where we come in.

As of June 12, 2020, it appears that Xûr is back to providing random rolls - so the Exotic merchant is providing more excitement than he has in a long time. Xûr appears every Friday at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST, and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We'll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you're reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he's selling this week.

Now we're in Beyond Light territory, but Xûr's first appearances have been at the usual spots - so maybe don't expect too many surprises from the merchant in the new year of Destiny content.

Elder Scrolls remake Daggerfall Unity is killing it on Nexus Mods

Daggerfall Unity is growing into an Elder Scrolls remake worthy of billing alongside Bethesda's originals, and like those originals, it's carving out a niche on Nexus Mods. The fan-made Daggerfall revamp now has hundreds of mods available, and those mods have amassed over one million downloads. Pretty impressive considering Daggerfall Unity isn't actually even out yet.

The milestone was highlighted by mod developer Cliffworms on Twitter yesterday. "Last year at around the same date, it reached 500K downloads. Here's to 1M more downloads in April 2023! Congrats and cheers to [Daggerfall Unity creator] Gavin Clayton for opening DFU to modding and to all modders and players!"

We covered Daggerfall Unity back in 2019, back when it was first entering public alpha. These days, it's deep into beta, and continuing to look impressive. The original Daggerfall was massive, but notoriously buggy even by the standards that modern Bethesda fans have become accustomed to. Daggerfall Unity recreates the original, which is now available for free, in a modern engine, aiming to fix those bugs and improve playability on modern machines.

Growing a studio of indie college pals into a triple-A powerhouse

We had a blast at the inaugural W.A.S.D. earlier this month, which featured game developers and players meeting up for three days of festivities at London's Tobacco Dock earlier this month. While the event has concluded, the in-depth discussion panels have been preserved - they're now up on our YouTube channel for everyone to enjoy. Joe Brammer, CEO of Battalion 1944 developer Bulkhead Interactive, delivered a talk Saturday afternoon about how he helped grow his company from a group of university friends into the triple-A development studio it is today.

Bulkhead has expanded a lot over the course of the past two years - in fact, it's doubled in size from 50 to 100 employees. In his talk, Brammer discussed some of the unforeseen challenges he and his colleagues faced along the way, and about how establishing a strong company culture and identity was a key part of finding the right people to join the team.

Brammer doesn't mince words about Bulkhead's journey - he's as candid in noting the studio's missteps as he is about highlighting its triumphs and strengths. Growing into a studio capable of taking on triple-A projects has involved a lot of learning on the job, plus plenty of improvisation in the face of unexpected challenges.

Re-thinking the work week in post-pandemic game development

The first-ever W.A.S.D. has come and gone in a whirlwind, but thankfully, the thoughtful discussions that took place on stage at London's Tobacco Dock have all been preserved and archived. We're posting the show's panel discussions on the PCGamesN YouTube channel, so anyone who wasn't able to attend in person can enjoy these talks in full from the comfort of their own homes. Saturday featured a chat with Bulkhead Games CEO Joe Brammer and BetaJester co-founder Adam Boyne about moving to more flexible work schedules in the post-pandemic age of game development.

Brammer and Boyne spoke with PCGamesN editor Richard Scott-Jones about the challenges their respective companies faced as the pandemic required a sudden shift to long-term work-from-home arrangements.

Even though it's possible to do much or all of the work of development remotely thanks to readily available tech solutions like Discord, Zoom, and Google, teams do face new challenges when they stop sharing physical space. The panel touches on a few of these issues and how their companies have learned to address them over the past two years.

Valve quietly upgrades its upcoming Steam Deck dock

As we all patiently await the arrival of the official Steam Deck dock, it appears that Valve has quietly upgraded its specs ahead of release. While the number of ports on the device hasn't changed, there are a few key differences that will no doubt please owners of the handheld gaming PC.

Prior to the Steam Deck dock revamp, Valve's official spec sheet listed a single USB 3.1 port and two USB 2.0 ports. Now, when visiting the same page, it appears that it will ship with three USB 3.1 ports instead. Additionally, the formerly non-descript "Ethernet" port is now explicitly described as "Gigabit Ethernet."

These changes to the Steam Deck dock will greatly improve the speed at which you can download and play games via external gaming SSDs, due to the higher specification and rated speeds of both ports. Plus, this should alleviate any worries of the device inhibiting the performance of your gaming keyboard and mouse, as some peripherals demand USB 3.0 ports at minimum.

How to manage cables – six ways to keep your gaming PC neat and tidy

Learning how to manage cables within your gaming PC is more important than you'd think. While building your own gaming PC has never been easier, even the best graphics card and RGB clad case can't always save you from Reddit ridicule, especially if your rig's innards resemble some sort of spaghetti monster

Taking time to manage cables inside your gaming PC may feel like a chore, but it could help your rig flourish. For starters, cleaning up your cables could prevent tasks like upgrading to the best gaming CPU from feeling like an action movie bomb disposal scene. Better still, if you want to boost fps in your favourite games, freeing up case space can help keep things cool when overclocking your CPU and GPU.

Of course, you could just cheat by packing everything behind the best gaming motherboard and jamming the side panel back on, but there are far more elegant solutions out there. Follow these six steps of cable management and your setup could look like it's been done by a professional in no time.

Once you've navigated past the backend software, one of Nadin's biggest tips for getting noticed on Steam is mastering how wishlists work. After all, your game will be seen by Valve's algorithm and placed in front of more people if it appears on numerous players' wishlists.

     F1 22 system requirements

The F1 22 system requirements are here to help you make sure your gaming PC can run Codemasters' latest racing game. While not much has changed in terms of specs from last year's entry in the series, you may want to book your system in for a pit stop so that you can enjoy the game's new VR support to the fullest.

Blink and you might miss it, the only differences between the F1 22 system requirements and its predecessor's are the GPUs you'll need to run it. Thankfully, the barrier for entry remains low with the Nvidia GeForce GT 1050 Ti and AMD RX 470 proving more than enough.

However, you'll likely want to arm your rig with the best graphics card you can for a couple of reasons. Aside from ray tracing, you'll be able to play F1 22 in VR for the first time in the series history which will need a decent amount of pixel pushing horsepower. Developer Codemasters has confirmed support for some of the best VR headsets, including the Meta Quest 2 and HTC Vive.

Two Point Campus' latest course can give you your Hogwarts Legacy fix

Two Point Studios has unveiled a mystical module for Two Point Campus in a new trailer, giving the university management sim a Harry Potter game twist. Dubbed the "Wizardry course", the new gameplay element essentially lets players run an uncanny version of Hogwarts, complete with cauldrons, crystal balls, and pointy hats.

In case you're out of the loop, Two Point Campus is an upcoming successor to Sega's medical sim, Two Point Hospital. Of course, the series itself is inspired by the 1987 classic Theme Hospital, which is considered one of the best old PC games of all time. Even if you're not into simulation games, Sega's academic extravaganza might serve as a Hogwarts Legacy fix, especially if you're just looking for something with magical vibes.

The Two Point Campus Wizardy course reveals a glimpse into Two Point Games' wacky take on witches and wizards, including familiar activities like duels and potion brewing sessions. A press release for the trailer even suggests there'll be a "nefarious enemy" lurking around, so perhaps the game's shenanigans will be paired with some comical peril.

Starfield release date – latest news and gameplay

When is the Starfield release date? Thankfully we now know when we will be playing the first new Bethesda series in 25 years, but it's still a long way off. Regardless, that's still cause enough to scream so loud with excitement that we could be heard in space.

The eventual Starfield release date will see the beloved Fallout and Elder Scrolls studio leaving the ground and heading out among, well, the stars. A whole field of stars, in fact. You might even call it a star field. What has the studio found there? That's what we're looking to work out, as the first meteorites filled with information begin to fall from the sky.

Bethesda's online-only title, Fallout 76, disappointed us as much as it did fans of the post-apocalyptic games series. However, Starfield is a surer prospect in some ways: a single-player game, just like Skyrim and Fallout 4 before it. In other ways, it's bolder and stranger - a completely new universe, whereas Fallout and The Elder Scrolls are rooted in decades of established lore, locations, and creatures. Here's everything we know about Starfield.

Razer Leviathan V2 PC soundbar boasts THX audio and Chroma RGB

Razer has finally unleashed its Levithan V2 PC soundbar onto the market, featuring several upgrades and new features that the company hopes will tempt you to find a place for it in your gaming PC setup.

Comparing the Razer Leviathan V2 to its predecessor, the company's new PC soundbar boasts larger four-inch drivers which should help give the best PC games and music a little more oomph. The Leviathan V2's down-firing subwoofer has increased in size too, but the biggest improvement comes in the form of two passive radiator drivers, which should help improve the longevity of the device via dampening. It also comes with THX Spatial Audio, enabling to produce a great virtual 7.1 surround sound experience.

For RGB fans who fancy having raves at their desk or those wanting to get super immersed in a Bill Wurtz track, the Razer Leviathan V2 also comes with 18 customisable lighting zones via Razer Chroma RGB. In addition to controlling the PC soundbar's lighting from your rig, you can also adjust settings on the fly on your smartphone with the Razer Audio mobile app.

There are plenty of space exploration games that take after Elite. It's only a matter of time before I end up recommending one here, since they're often pretty good, but Approaching Infinity has got there first because it's not only good, it's doing things completely differently.

It's a free-roaming space game about exploring, trading, fighting, and doing questy things. But instead of copying Elite wholesale, it merely borrows some parts, and combines them with a classic roguelike framework, and lovingly paints the result with a huge dose of Star Trek. If your eyebrows just did a thing, I'd be very surprised if you don't enjoy it.

I think your reaction to the idea of someone asking you that will predict your response to Glitchhikers: The Spaces Between, a self-described "surreal journey through the spaces between places". Do you think "what have you been doing to give your life meaning?" is a cool way to start a conversation? A better prompt than you'd normally encounter? A big question, rather than small talk? waddle doo best kirby character

Next week marks the 30th anniversary of the Kirby franchise, so we should be feeling celebratory! Instead, we're still smarting over the latest game's biggest snub: Waddle Doo isn't in it. So let's talk about Waddle Doo and why they're the best so that HAL and Nintendo won't forget next time.

Unparalleled utility

Most Kirby players, when they think of Waddle Doo, probably mostly think of Beam. That makes sense! It's one of the franchise's longest-running power-ups, and one that you never mind having. Beam can hit at a distance. Beam can strike at an angle. Heck, Beam can shoot from the other side of the screen! Individuals may have a favorite power-up that's something else, but getting Beam never elicits a groan or sigh. It'll do what you need, whatever that happens to be. — Graham

waddle doo very good

Charming design

Waddle Doo is the best Kirby character because their character design is incredible. Waddle Dee? That looks a lot like Kirby or Meta Knight. Awoofy? That's just a dog. (I mean, a cute dog, sure.) Waddle Doos have personality. Their eyes are incredibly expressive. They resemble Kirby and all, but are unique enough to be their own individuals. Also, whether it is a jester hat or a night cap, Waddle Doos pick up some rocking headgear. — Jenni

Despite not being much of a Kirby aficionado, even I can recognize my Waddle Dee and Waddle Doo, and I always think that of the two, Waddle Doo is cuter. Why? As Jenni mentioned, it's the eye. It does all the work of a fully-featured face with but a single orb to ponder. — Josh

take a look at this waddle doo fella

Waddle Dee is boring

We've been beating around the bush here, so I'll just get to it: Waddle Dees are not worth all the attention. Why? They're nothing. They're blank slates. To make a Waddle Dee interesting, you have to put a bandana or a mustache on one. Or hand it a parasol or something. An accessory isn't a personality! But Waddle Doo, though? Waddle Doo is shown to be a leader and organizer. Waddle Doo works hard and shows fatigue. And Waddle Doo isn't oblivious to the world and its trials.

That's not to say Waddle Dees should go away entirely! But you're telling me you needed a 300th one before a single Waddle Doo? I don't believe that. — Graham

Do you disagree that Waddle Doo is the best Kirby character? Most certainly don't let us know in the comments or on Twitter! You could read our other handy roundtables for more thoughts from the Siliconera team, though.

New Genshin Impact Live Wallpaper Features Ayaka

It's been a while since miHoYo shares a new Genshin Impact live wallpaper, but now there's a new one for Ayaka. The younger Kamisato sibling appears in a free background set in Inazuma. People who grab the N0va Desktop app can set it up for free. However, it is only available for PCs and Android tablets.

The location in the Genshin Impact Ayaka live wallpaper might look familiar. That's because it falls between the Kamisato Estate and Chinju Forest on Narukami Island. It also looks like the spot where Ayaka dances in her story quest. People who set it as a background can watch as she moves along a river by a waterfall.

As a reminder, people can pull for Ayaka in Genshin Impact right now. She's on a banner with the four stars Razor, Rosaria, and Sayu.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and N0va Desktop is available on PCs and mobile devices. The Ayaka banner will run in Genshin Impact until May 10, 2022.

People Can Now Pre-register for Front Mission: Borderscape

A new Front Mission game is on the way, and this time it is for mobile devices. Square Enix announced Front Mission: Borderscape and noted people can pre-register for it immediately. There's no gameplay footage yet. However, the first trailer features some event scenes and commentary from Third Division Director Kouichirou Sakamoto and GCraft President Toshiro Tsuchida.

During the trailer, the developer portion mainly served to set the stage for the potential events. Sakamoto noted he oversees the Front Mission IP. Tsuchida mentioned his work on the first three entries. Tsuchida then brought up the United States of the New Continent and the Oceania Cooperative Union and the tension between them. Specifically, he mentioned Huffman Island. Sakamoto then reminded viewers about past altercations involving it, like the first and second Huffman conflicts.

Meanwhile, the rest of the video focuses on video segments setting the stage. We see pilots in Wanzers. There's an in-game news announcement, and a pilot talking with another about being "mercenaries." The person the one pilot is talking to mentions how he didn't think they'd be back in New Milgan, one of Huffman Island's cities. (It was a major location in Front Mission 1st. There's also a hint about a new Wanzer model.

People can pre-register for Front Mission: Borderscape at the official site. People need to mention which platform they'll play on and provide their email. No pre-registration bonuses were mentioned.

Front Mission: Borderscape will come to Android and Apple iOS devices, and people can pre-register now.

Signalis Gameplay TrailerHumble Games has revealed Signalis, an upcoming horror game heavily inspired by classic '90s titles. Although an exact release date hasn't been given, it is expected to launch sometime in fall 2022. Those interested can add it to their Steam wishlist in order to not miss out when it becomes available. Signalis is the first game to be developed by rose-engine, an indie developer based in Germany. The studio consists of just two employees: Yuri Stern and Barbara Wittmann. These two are responsible for all of the game's illustrations and features. They have previously worked on Ascend, a short platformer about loss, and Coffin Counseling, another platformer featuring gravity manipulation.   Rose-engine has been working on Signalis for quite a while and posted the first teaser back in June 2018. It takes advantage of a unique "striking pixel-art anime aesthetic," while delivering slow-paced atmosphere-focused gameplay. As its presentation would suggest, t...

Elden Ring co-op modIf there's anything you can say about Elden Ring, I think we can all agree that it's a hard game. But FromSoftware did make sure to provide players with plenty of tools to get by, and the most prominent feature tool at the player's disposal is the game's co-op system. However, co-op has its limits that make the online experience less than desirable. A mod for Elden Ring seeks to solve the issues with co-op by introducing plenty of new features. LukeYui, the modder looking to solve these problems, made a similar mod for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The YouTube video showing this new Elden Ring mod off gives us a look at loads of neat features. After seeing the video you may even wonder why FromSoftware decided to neglect to implement these seemingly great ideas. The truth is that Elden Ring's co-op system is essentially unchanged from the way it worked all the way back in Demon's Souls. So FromSoftware could take some notes from this mod, as the feature...

Firstly, new multiplayer maps will arrive in Vanguard Season Three. The first map, Mayhem, is a 1950s movie set with an open roof, and it's built for fast-paced combat, so it could be literal mayhem. Later in the season, players will be taken to a hidden weapons lab with another new map, named Sphere. A further map that is small in size, expect to be in a lot of close-quarter combat throughout Season Three. Next, Call of Duty: Vanguard is getting a trophy system. Yes, you read that right. Trophy systems have been in various past Call of Duty titles and are useful in Warzone Pacific.
