Dune Awakening only officially launched earlier today, and it already seems to be a hit. A combination of survival games like Valheim or Enshrouded with an MMO on the scale of World of Warcraft or Fallout 76, the new take on Frank Herbert's sci-fi universe seems to be finding a large audience interested in exploring the setting recently re-popularized by a pair of blockbuster films. After a solid start with an 'Advanced Access' version available to players who purchased its Deluxe or Ultimate Edition last week, the game has now come out for every buyer and is already attracting a huge audience and warm reviews.

Civilization 7 hasn't got off to a great start. The latest entry to the long-running strategy series seeks to reinvigorate the design of past Civ games by introducing bold new systems. The most controversial of these is Ages, which looks to both set Civ 7 apart from its past while also offering the kind of shot in the arm necessary to keep it competitive with other recent history-focused RTS games like Ara History Untold, Age of Empires 4, and Total War: Pharaoh. Unfortunately, as welcome as Ages' uniqueness may be, it hasn't landed well with large swathes of the game's audience.

There's a specific suburb in Muldraugh that I always use for a base; it's the one between Cortman Medical and the trailer park, just south of the gas station and the church. It's not because the houses are all on two floors, or because I often seem to find a working car there. It's because the zombies themselves seem to stay away - it's very lightly populated, and in Project Zomboid, the more alone you are, the better. But as much as safety, in Zomboid, I also relish unpredictability. It's the not knowing that keeps The Indie Stone's undead epic alive. Mini gaming PC owners have typically had a choice: downsize and lose their graphics card, use an eGPU enclosure, or keep their rig large enough to plug their GPU in directly. This bizarre build, however, turns that logic on its head, integrating an entire PC into the chassis of an Nvidia GeForce graphics card instead. The end result is a Frankenstein monster that, in the end, isn't really a GPU after all.

Ripping apart an Nvidia graphics card to fit an entire PC inside it might have seemed impossible just a few years ago. However, the best mini gaming PC designs are now small enough to accommodate incredibly small motherboards, which can then squeeze into tiny spaces, such as this graphics card.

New Kingdom Hearts Mouse Pads Debut in September

Square Enix announced that more Kingdom Hearts mouse pads are on the way, with four circular options and one desk-size option coming to Japan. These will debut there on September 20, 2025. While these items will likely appear worldwide, as Amazon and Square Enix Store both do carry past and other series designs, none of them are currently on any US storefronts just yet.

As the Kingdom Hearts II desk-size mouse pad is the largest, it is also the most expensive. It will cost 3,850円 (~$27). It is over 31 inches by almost 16 inches, and it is designed to cover a substantial area on a desk. These types of mats could also be used when playing card games or engaging in other activities. It features characters like Sora, Riku, Kairi, Roxas, Donald, Goofy, Mickey, Namine, Ansem, and members of Organization XIII.

Here's how that looks:

The four Kingdom Hearts circular mouse pads are 1,650円 (~$12) each. They are about eight inches around (200mm), so they're really designed to only be used with mice. These each feature stained glass motifs. One features Xion front and center, with characters like Axel, Saix, Roxas, and Xehanort behind her. The second features Riku with Namine, King Mickey, and Ansem behind him. After that is one with Sora and Kairi back to back, with images of Namine and Roxas behind them. Finally, the last one features Sora in a crown sitting on a throne.

This is how all four of those will look:

As a reminder, all of the past mouse pads in this line featured similar sorts of designs. So circular ones always looked like stained glass windows, and the rectangular full-desk ones featured notable art with multiple characters.

The Kingdom Hearts mouse pads will debut in Japan on September 20, 2025. We'll likely see them worldwide sometime after that.

There will be two Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter collector's editions appearing alongside the standard release of the game after September 19, 2025. However, they won't both be available at launch. The SteelBook, which features an additional case as a selling point, will debut alongside the Nihon Falcom JRPG. However, all non-game and SteelBook case items in the Bracer Edition sold via Limited Run Games and Clear River Games will ship separately from the game and appear between November 15, 2025 and December 15, 2025. Both all also provide permanent access to the Launch Celebration Pack of DLC costumes and items that will otherwise only be available until October 19, 2025.

The SteelBook Edition of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is $79.99. This includes a normal case with foil embossed slipcover, the SteelBook case, and a physical Switch or PS5 copy to start. We also get the Classic Estelle and Joshua DLC costumes based on their appearances in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. The Launch Celebration Pack is a part of this bonus as well.

The Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter Bracer Edition is the more expensive of the two at $179.99. It comes with everything in the SteelBook Edition. However, more physical items are. included. There's an art book, a mini soundtrack CD, a replica of the Bracer Guild notebook, a cloth map showing the whole Liberl region, and a music box that plays the theme song called "The Whereabouts of Light."

New FFXIV Social Media Account Opens on Bluesky

Square Enix set up new Final Fantasy XIV social media accounts, with the company now discussing FFXIV on Bluesky. There are actually four accounts on the service, and all of them currently shared the first announcement post and teaser video. This means people can follow the MMORPG there in English, French, German, and Japanese.

In the reveal, Square Enix noted this isn't a replacement for any of the other FFXIV social media accounts. It's designed to complement them instead. It is unknown if everything we see on, say, the X and Instagram accounts will also be mirrored on the FFXIV Bluesky account. However, right now there are posts on both of those matching the new announcement. As this is the most recent notice on every platform, we'll need to keep an eye on accounts in the future to see if every message will always appear everywhere.

It is important to note that the different language FFXIV social media accounts can post unique news based on what is relevant to the region, so we could see that happen with the Bluesky one. For example, June 6th is "Sheep Day" in Japan, and only the official Japanese X account shared a screenshot from Solution Nine.

This means we'll have another option to check for possible announcements from upcoming events. There will be a Letter from the Producer LIVE LXXXVII held on June 20, 2025. Then on July 4, 2025, there will be a panel with Naoki Yoshida that will touch on games at Anime Expo 2025.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. A mobile adaptation is in development.

Final Fantasy XVI Art Book and LOGOS Lore Book Arrive in 2026

Square Enix announced that two Final Fantasy XVI books will appear outside Japan, with The Art of FFXVI: Echoes of the Rising Tide art book and LOGOS: The World of FFXVI lore compilation both appearing in English in 2026. LOGOs will appear first on March 31, 2026, followed by the art book on May 5, 2026

I suppose someone could consider LOGOS to be similar to the Ultimania Final Fantasy books, only this is written from the perspective of Final Fantasy XVI character Harpocrates II Hyperboreos and others to go over lore. Square Enix also has Ben Starr as Clive, Stewart Clarke as Dion, and Christopher York as Gav writing segments as their characters to help provide additional insights into the people they played. That will cost $44.99, and the Square Enix Online Store version comes with bookmarks.

Here are official photos of the cover, bookmarks, and some of its pages.

The Art of Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Rising Tide is the second art book for this entry, as the first FFXVI one showed up in 2023. While LOGOS is a 256-page tome, this is a lighter, 96-page book. That's because it specifically focuses on the Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide DLC released after launch. The Square Enix Online Store version comes with an A4-size print of Kazuya Takahashi's art of the cast.

Square Enix shared initial images of the bonus art and this book as well.

LOGOS: The World of Final Fantasy XVI will launch on March 31, 2026, The Art of FFXVI: Echoes of the Rising Tide will debut on May 5, 2026, and the game is on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC now.

NieR: Automata Event Returns to Goddess of Victory: NIKKE

During a Shift Up Producers' Creative Dialogue Special Livestream that included NieR: Automata creator Yoko Taro and producer Yosuke Saito, a rerun of that crossover event in Goddess of Victory: NIKKE ended up confirmed. That collaboration comes back on July 3, 2025. This is almost two years after its debut in September 2023.

Since this is a rerun event, we do know quite a bit about what to expect from it. 2B and A2 appeared as the banner units and were SSR ones, while Pascal showed up as an SR unit we could earn. A special story appeared involving Machine Lifeforms. There were also costumes, with 2B getting a YoRHa Uniform 1 design. It is unknown if we could see more characters or costumes in the rerun yet.

Here's the PV from the original run of that NieR: Automata Goddess of Victory: NIKKE crossover:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DirQybeCU60

The full Producers' Creative Dialogue Special Livestream can be seen below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EezDZURfSfk

This means we'll see one crossover collab come to Goddess of Victory: NIKKE after another. The Stellar Blade one kicks off on June 12, 2025. That features Eve and Raven as banner characters, Lily as one we can earn from the event, and Providence as a boss we can fight. There will also be Neurolink and Skin Suit costumes for Eve that are based on attire from the game.

All three of these games are tied together in another way too. Stellar Blade got both NieR: Automata and Goddess of Victory: NIKKE DLC added to it after launch.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is available on PCs and mobile devices, and the NieR: Automata event returns on July 3, 2025. The game is available on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Windows PC. The anime adaptation is streaming via CrunchyrollStellar Blade is on the PS5 and PC.

Splatoon Raiders and Splatoon 3 Update Head to Switch 2

Nintendo used its Nintendo Today app to announce a new Splatoon Raiders spin-off game and Splatoon 3 update for the Switch 2. While there's no release date for the new title, the patch that adds upgrades is 10.0.0 and debuts on June 12, 2025. This comes after the company ended new events and additions in September 2024 for Splatoon 3.

In the case of Splatoon 3, this will be one of the free Switch 2 patches to enhance the game. Of course it will run better on the new system and look better there. There will also be crossplay between folks on the Switch and Switch 2. Urchin Underpass will debut as a stage, 30 weapon kits will be part of a Splatlands weapon collection, more Badges will appear, Freshness caps will be higher. Finally, Anarchy Battle will use Series Weapon Power to ensure even weapons you're trying for the first time or learning will be as powerful as ones you've mastered.

In the case of Splatoon Raiders, the first trailer teased players as a pilot and mechanic heading to Spirhalite Islands alongside Shiver, Frye, and Big Man from Deep Cut. The trio learned about potential treasure there. Following a crash, it looks like we'll explore areas alongside a robot. Other segments also showed our avatar fishing and hanging out with characters at a camp. That segment closed on a teaser of a major beam of light emerging from the ground and unusual storm brewing around it.

Here's the official trailer for both the new game and Switch 2 upgrade.

Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

Astro's Playroom on the PS5 set something of a standard for console "tech demo" launch games and showpieces. It educated while also acting as a genuinely pleasant and compelling platformer. Especially since it ended up being a free pack-in for the system. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is the equivalent for Nintendo's newest console generation and, while it is education and enlightening, it is nowhere near as enjoyable. Especially since it comes with a $9.99 price tag.

The setup for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is one of the things I genuinely appreciate about this application. It's set up in the same way as the sort of console experiences for this system ahead of launch. You pick an avatar for yourself out of a line of pre-generated folks waiting to get into a Nintendo Exhibit. Once your time comes, you head out onto a show floor organized on top of a giant Switch 2 and its peripherals. So the experience begins on Joy-Con 2 (L) Area, with more opening up as you collect stamps and unlock new difficulty levels for the minigame tech demos or additional locations. You can also chat with other attendees. The concept is sound, the design is great, and I love the style.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is broken down into two types of experiences. One involves short quizzes taken after reading an article describing either an element of the console or its one of its peripherals' design. The other involves an interactive display of some feature tied to the device. So in Joy-Con 2 (L) Area, you can take quizzes about the construction of the controller, play Dodge the Spiked Balls: Survival Mode, and play Find the Strongest Rumble: Along a Line. The quizzes there cover things like the new rumble feature, while the activities show off the mouse-based elements of the new controller and HD Rumble 2. Once you do enough there to earn its stamps, you unlock Area B, which is Nintendo Switch 2 Console Area.

The execution of everything is fine too. There's a fast travel option that comes up after you reach Area B. The UI is clear, so it is easy to see how many stamps you collected. Since the minigames are all essentially tech demos, there are ample explanations and they're usually quite educational. The quality isn't something I'd call into question.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJZF4y-OYgM

I'm just not a big fan of how Nintendo handled the content presented here. The information for the quiz sections is fascinating. I did feel like I understood the console, controllers, dock, and camera much better after going through them. They aren't challenging either, so long as you pay attention. But while they're novel, I would probably never gone through them if I didn't need some easy stamps. They weren't so interesting that I consider them required reading.

Likewise, the minigames present in Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour are nowhere near as joyful and fun as Astro's Playroom. I think I might have had more fun with 1-2-Switch. I know I liked Nintendo Land better. None of the minigames here are memorable, and they all feel like tech demos manned by overly enthusiastic staff trying to manufacture a "good time" while nudging you along like, "Hey, see how this works here? Try this! Neat, right? Right?" Some are incredibly bland, like HDR Fireworks designed to show the difference between brightness in SDR and HDR. At worst, I felt like I did the thing and at least got a stamp out of it. At best, I thought the educational element of it ended up being worthwhile. Especially in Super Mario Bros 4K, which helped show how many pixels the original Super Mario Bros 1-1 level took up, the way HD Rumble 2 mimics sensations in Maracas Physics, and appreciated how Open the GL/GR Locks got me used to using the new buttons on the Switch 2 Pro Controller.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour works fine. It's totally functional and educational. It just isn't fun in the same way games like Nintendo Land and Astro's Playroom are. Considering this is a premium product that costs real money, I feel like there needed to be more to it in order to make it worthwhile. If it was even $4.99, rather than $9.99, I might consider recommending it for the insights and experiences that can sometimes be fascinating. As-is, you'll probably pick out the more novel elements and upgrades to the new system while playing better games like Mario Kart World

An upcoming monster in Monster Hunter Wilds

Title Update 2 is coming to Monster Hunter Wilds in June, and plenty of new content awaits fans of the game.

While Capcom has yet to reveal the exact content in detail, there have been early sneak peeks. Let's have a gander at what to expect as part of the upcoming title update, which will feature new monsters, weapon improvements, and more. I am also expecting a Title Update 2 show from Capcom, like the one they did for the earlier major update in Spring.

All major Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 features

If you're bored of defeating the mighty monsters, there is great hope. New Tempered monsters (8*) will be added as special quests for players to conquer. Additionally, a new Arch-Tempered monster will appear in exclusive hunts. We will have more information about the upcoming Arch-Tempered Monster closer to release.

Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Hammer is one weapon that will receive a major overhaul. It will add the offset effects for different attacks and a follow-up attack on a successful offset. Other weapons like the Dual Blades are also expected to receive changes, but some nerfs might also be on the cards. Capcom has also announced that weapons will continue receiving tweaks in the future.

Title Update 2 will continue to receive Quality of Life updates, such as Seikret usability, the ability to view skill details with a single button, and more. For example, the positions and movement of your Seikret and handler won't interfere with gameplay. Layered weapons are also included in the plans for the upcoming summer update.

Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 release date

Capcom hasn't disclosed an exact date as of writing. We know the update is coming at the end of June, and I will put my bets in the window of June 26-27, right before the last weekend. Once Capcom confirms the exact date, it will be added to this guide, so be sure to check back.

Steam Next Fest logo

June 2025's Steam Next Fest is off and running, boasting a plethora of new and returning demos for upcoming games on PC, so I've been pretty busy.

During this past weekend's gaming showcases like Summer Game Fest and Xbox's showing, I began adding a ton of games to my wishlist, downloading demos, and sifting through all of them to see what's what, and so I've been tearing through them to try and find the next big sleeper hit.

Phase Zero monstrosity screenshot
Screenshot by Destructoid

I've played about a dozen or so demos and added multiple games to my wishlist, such as Ambrosia Sky, Phase Zero, and PIGFACE, but I still have a lot more to seek out and download. And so, I am enlisting you, dear reader, for help.

What June 2025 Steam Next Fest demos have caught your eye? Which were you excited for, but ended up being disappointed in? Is there anything that surprised you by coming out of nowhere and immediately ending up on your wishlist?

June gaming events are always full of exciting, triple-A announcements for games like Resident Evil Requiem, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, or 007 First Light. But a lot of gold can be found within Steam Next Fest and other indie festivals like it, and sometimes you just need to go out of your way to play it yourself to find your next most anticipated game.

So, what Steam Next Fest demos do you recommend? Visit Steam's Next Fest page to browse and play, and then let us know in the comments below.

This article is written in partnership with iBUYPOWER

Building a new PC in 2025 can be a daunting task, especially with numerous choices for CPUs and GPUs. This is why buying a prebuilt PC has become increasingly popular over the last few years. They remove the hassle of assembly and deliver a ready-to-play experience for modern AAA titles. IBUYPOWER stands out not just for performance and value, but also for creating systems that are genuinely pleasing to look at, with sleek case designs and vibrant RGB setups that complement any gaming space. Their wide range of prebuilt systems delivers high performance, runs cool, and offers competitive pricing.

The RDY Element Pro R03 is an ideal choice for gamers who want top-tier rasterized performance across a range of current-generation games. It features the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU with an impressive 16GB of VRAM for all your 4K needs, and the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, an incredibly capable CPU for both gaming and productivity. The RX 9070 XT delivers comparable performance to NVIDIA's 5000 series at a lower cost and supports FSR 4.0, allowing for higher frame rates at 4K without sacrificing image quality.

Since both the GPU and CPU are AMD components, users benefit from enhanced synergy between the two, resulting in smoother gameplay and multitasking performance. At its price point, the RDY Element Pro R03 offers the best of both worlds: raw power to handle even unoptimized games, and a cost advantage over similarly specced systems from competitors. With rising prices and the lack of consistent MSRP pricing from other brands, AMD's reliable performance makes the RDY Element Pro R03 a highly attractive option in 2025 and beyond.

To keep up with the demands of modern games, the system comes equipped with 32GB of DDR5 6000 MHz RAM and vibrant RGB lighting for visual flair. A 2TB M.2 NVMe Gen4 SSD is preinstalled, offering lightning-fast storage for faster load times and plenty of space for your game library, with room to expand via additional slots.

All of this is housed in the sleek Element 9 Pro Case, the premium tier in the Element 9 series. Its tempered glass panels on the front and side offer a clear view of your high-end components, while the mesh top panel ensures consistent airflow. A 360 mm AIO liquid cooler keeps thermals in check, even during marathon sessions of your favorite competitive shooter.

Like all iBUYPOWER systems, the RDY Element Pro R03 is backed by an excellent warranty: two years for parts and three years for labor. You're covered long after your purchase, and if anything goes wrong, their responsive customer support team is ready to assist with your PC needs.

IBUYPOWER has been around for over 25 years with a reputation for building high-quality gaming PCs. They have regularly partnered up with known hardware brands such as ASUS, MSI, Western Digital, and HYTE, and have collaborated with several gaming publishers, including Riot Games, miHoYo, and SEGA. They regularly feature gaming deals and coupons on their website, tailored for a variety of gamers who want a decent experience without breaking the bank.

A sreenshot from Windswept, showing a duck and a turtle on wooden platforms in front of a watery background.

Steam Next Fest is one of my favorite gaming events of the year, and for good reason. For a week straight, gamers get to try out free demos for upcoming games. These events are an opportune time for indie developers to show off what they've been working on.

And I've found what could be my next favorite as a fan of retro platformers.

Windswept, an adorable platformer from developer WeatherFell, is one of these many indie games looking to impress during this Steam Next Fest. The game follows Marbles, a fresh duck hatchling, and Checkers, a resourceful little turtle, who've been swept away from their homes during a devastating storm. Together, they must find their way back, navigating thick forests and fighting fearsome foes in the process.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbwNnavCA5o

As you pilot the two animals, you'll combine their talents to overcome obstacles. Marbles can glide horizontally from platform to platform, launch into the air with a spin attack, and yeet Checkers into enemies to take them out. Checkers, on the other hand, is all about verticality. He can throw Marbles into the air and serve as a platform for Marbles to jump on top of, allowing for the traversal of deadly chasms.

I've only played the first few levels of Windswept so far, but I can tell you I'm duly intrigued. Throughout your journey, you'll team up with other animals—including a dolphin, a giant iguana, and a fluffy husky—all of which introduce new ways to travel around the game's many maps. There are plenty of bosses to beat, the retro art style is adorable, and the gameplay is fun and fluid.

But wait! There's more. I haven't even talked about my favorite part of the game yet: collectibles. No platformer could call itself a true platformer without hidden collectibles—and boy, does Windswept hit the ground running on this front. Each level, including the first tutorial map, has a set of collectible coins for you to find. Some of them are out in the open but may be challenging to get to, demanding you to combine Marble's and Checker's talents to reach. Others are sneakily hidden behind objects and require you to hunt for them. More still can be found in bonus levels reached via portals. These bonus levels introduce new objectives: defeat all the enemies or collect all the coins in a map, for example, all while a timer ticks down at the top of your screen.

These collectibles are tracked as you progress through a map, ordered in such a way that makes it clear when you've missed one before you've advanced far enough into your playthrough of a level. I adore when developers design their systems like this; as a relatively busy person, I don't always have time to backtrack and hunt for hidden items. But I'm also a completionist at heart, which can make playing through a game fairly aggravating if it has a collectibles system. Windswept, though, makes it satisfying without being too demanding, and it's kept me eager to check every little nook and cranny for that 100 percent badge.

You can give Windswept's demo a whirl yourself during Steam Next Fest, which runs until June 16. For those of you looking for other demos to try out, the team at Destructoid also recommends Ambrosia Sky, a game reminiscent of Power Wash Simulator (if it took place on an alien planet), and Phase Zero, an indie horror that fans of Resident Evil will love.

Rocket Raccoon wearing a summer outfit walking away from explosion in Marvel Rivals

The latest Marvel Rivals update has been announced, but don't get too excited for any changes to meta-offending heroes or team compositions.

This week's upcoming patch for the hero shooter is all about skins! And a couple of bug fixes. But mainly skins, and they're all in celebration of 616 Day (June 16) in honor of Earth-616, which is the Prime Universe in Marvel's multiverse.

But the celebration will cost you. The patch marks the return of several limited-time bundles, which were not supposed to come back, only to now return less than six months later for players to purchase once again.

Several winter-themed bundles, along with some highly sought-after cyborg skins for Captain America and Hawkeye, will return to the game's shop for a week, along with new Future Foundation skins for Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman.

There are a handful of bug fixes in the notes, too, but that's it for the scheduled game changes thus far. Read on down below to see everything coming in the Marvel Rivals June 12 update, which should go live around 9pm CT on Thursday.

Marvel Rivals patch notes: June 12 update

  • Rocket Raccoon - Wild Winter Bundle
  • Groot - Holiday Happiness Bundle
  • Hawkeye - Galactic Fangs Bundle
  • Captain America - Galactic Talon Bundle
  • Invisible Woman - Future Foundation Bundle
  • The Thing - Future Foundation Bundle

Fixes

  1. Fixed an issue where Doctor Strange could not use emotes in Doom Match.
  2. Fixed incorrect display of Trusty Sidekick and Gifted Healer stats in Career custom data.
  3. Fixed possible errors in displaying Career Highest Rank Eternity scores for All Seasons.
  4. Fixed inconsistent In-Game Friends status updates in the team lobby.
  5. Fixed rare cases where the Hero Ban feature might not function properly.

Heroes

  1. Strange's Portal Puzzle: Resolved a mystical mishap where Doctor Strange's portals could sometimes, under certain latency conditions, open up straight into the spawn room. Stephen's portals now stay on the right path!
  2. Winter Soldier's Cold Cut: Fixed a rare bug where Winter Soldier's Ultimate Ability could be interrupted if Moon Knight's Ankh sent him flying at the exact moment of activation. Now, even Khonshu's knight can't freeze Bucky's finishing move ever AGAIN!
  3. Jeff & Storm's Wild Ride: Addressed a quirk where the Team-Up between Jeff the Land Shark and Storm could, in extreme cases, send Jeff zooming at super-speed. The only thing breaking the sound barrier now is Storm's thunder—Jeff's back to making a splash, not a dash!

Kaka as a Shapeshifters Icon in EA FC 25

The Shapeshifters promo is coming soon to EA FC 25, and we have the first set of leaks on social media.

Thanks to in-game objectives, we already have the confirmed release date for the promo. A few cards have also been confirmed (as part of the Season 8 Pass), but EA Sports has remained tight-lipped about the promo cards. So here's a look at the rumored cards expected to appear as part of the new promo.

Complete list of EA FC 25 Shapeshifters players

So far, we have only one name, and he needs no introduction.

  • Diego Armando Maradona

As we get more leaks, they will be added to the list. Shapeshifters will have three teams, so it will be a major promo. The promo will include Icons and regular footballers, so bad luck for those who love Heroes.

Here's a list of all the confirmed cards. All these items are obtainable from the Season Pass.

  • Stephan El Shaarawy ST 94
  • Filip Kostic CDM 94
  • Grifo LB 94
  • Giacomo Bonaventura LW 94
  • Andrea Belotti CDM 94
  • Ciro Immobile RB 94
  • Douglas Luiz CB 95
  • Yan Couto LW 95
  • Pedro LB 95
  • Fikayo Tomori CDM 95
  • Lehmann LB 95
  • Alexis Sanchez CAM 95
  • Jorginho CAM 95
  • Samuel Lino RW 95
  • Martin Zubimendi RW 95
  • Robin Le Normand CM 95
  • Granit Xhaka CB 95
  • Jack Grealish RB 95
  • Gregor Kobel ST 96
  • Eric Dier ST 96
  • Ashley Maitland-Niles 96
  • Jan Oblak CB 96
  • Ricardo Calafiori ST 99
  • Sandro Tonali LW 96
  • Ruben Loftus Cheek CB 96
  • Mike Maignan CM 96
  • Conno Gallagher ST 96
  • Rafael Leao ST 97

The Shapeshifters cards have two special properties about them.

  • All of them are fully familiar with all roles applicable to their positions. So, if you're using a Shapeshifters CAM, they will have Role++ for all applicable roles of a CAM.
  • All Shapeshifters cards will have unique positions. If a footballer plays as a striker in real life, their promo card could be that of a defender or a midfielder. This makes the upcoming promo fun, and there will be three special teams of cards.

Several players dressed in hazmat suits repairing a wagon in Mimesis.

It is by no means wild to claim that Lethal Company is one of the most revolutionary horror games of the past decade. It spawned a genre of its own, one where proximity voice chat plays a crucial role.

But what if I told you that another game was made and just got its demo in the land of Steam Next Fest, where the best indies lie?

The effect of the uncanny valley is immensely strong in Mimesis

Enter: Mimesis. A co-op horror game that puts you and your friends against... well, you and your friends. The formula it follows is the same as we saw in Lethal Company and R.E.P.O.: go to a spooky place, collect scrap, sell it, and then do it all again. Sounds simple, sounds fun—and it is. However, there is one horrifying aspect that makes this game stand out among the rest, and that, my friends, are the Mimics.

While other horror games have tried out the concept of mimicry to try and copy the player and their pals, Mimesis does so in such a terrifying way that I was sweating all throughout playing with one of my friends, and that's just in a two-man lobby.

The mimics not only record what you say but try to map your movements, behavior, and mannerisms, so as to look as real as they possibly can. I won't lie and say that I didn't get fooled by both the Mimic and my friend poking fun at me by pretending to be one. It was horribly scary, and I loved every second of it.

A mimic watching the player from a distance in an abandoned field in Mimesis.
The Mimic will sometimes just stand there and watch you, learning how you behave and what you say. Screenshot by Destructoid

The game's sessions take place over three days, just like in Lethal Company, and the Mimics build compound knowledge each subsequent day. If you have a very long and successful run, the Mimics will build so much knowledge of you that it becomes genuinely difficult to discern reality from mimicry.

They play back what you or your friends say; whenever you die, a new Mimic spawns on your body, meaning your friends won't have any idea that you're really gone.

The more your lobby dies, the more Mimics there are in the game, all masterfully copying your team and playing tricks on the mind. Mankind has an ingrained fear of the uncanny, things that look familiar, but there's something off with them. The mimics in Mimesis are embodiments of this concept and will strike fear in even the most hardened of horror gamers.

It is genuinely amazing, and it's only a demo.

It's free at the moment as part of Steam Next Fest

The game is not set to release before the third quarter of this year, and I believe that by the time all its systems are fleshed out, the game will be even more terrifying than it is currently. It utilizes a fantastic, simple gameplay loop and adds to it an incredible mechanic that many have tried to implement but failed to make it worth your while.

Mimesis, however, is more than worth a try. If you've a knack for horror games and want your friends to be your worst nightmare, give Mimesis a try. It has a free demo as part of the Steam Next Fest, alongside countless other indie adventures that deserve our attention now more than ever.

The more successful indies there are, the less chance corporate studios have to muck everything up more than they already have. So, do your part and give the devs some honest feedback so they can create the most haunting horror experience imaginable.

Do you think more games should go for mimics and add them to their monster rosters? Or do you think the tech is not there yet for them to be smart enough? Let us know below.

Fortnite Unstable Exotic pistol

If you've been playing Fortnite for a while, you'll know just how powerful Exotic weapons can be. Chapter 6, Season 3: Super introduces another form of these weapons, simply titled "Unstable Exotics," that can easily wipe the floor with your opponents. Their power depends entirely on how you use them.

Where to find Unstable Exotic weapons in Fortnite

Unstable Exotics weapons are a drop from Overlord Spires during Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3: Super. Defeating an Overlord Spire causes them to drop a random Exotic weapon and several Legendary items, letting you easily deck out your loadout with powerful gear early in your match.

Screenshot by Destructoid

There are three different Unstable Exotic weapons you can obtain from Overlord Spires:

  • Unstable Voltage Burst Pistol
  • Unstable Frostfire Shotgun
  • Unstable Yoink Shotgun

Alongside being much more powerful than your average weapon, each one also has unique effects. The Voltage Burst Pistol has a chance to launch an electric shockwave effect when you shoot with it, knocking back and dealing increased damage to anyone in its radius. The Yoink Shotgun has a chance to pull enemies toward you, while the Frostfire Shotgun can speed you up and slow enemies down.

Of these three weapons, the Frostfire Shotgun is often the one that shines the brightest with its movement effects. Not only is it powerful, easily dealing over 100 damage per shot if you land most of its bullets on your target, but it can also slow your opponents down, making it much more difficult for them to escape your attacks. You can also increase your movement speed to achieve a similar effect. Nonetheless, each weapon has its pros and cons, and it's ultimately up to you to find the best use in specific situations.

How to find and defeat Overlord Spires in Fortnite

Overlord Spires are mini-bosses you can encounter during your Fortnite matches. They spawn randomly around the map, indicated by a large spire map icon surrounded by ominous, swirling energy. You won't know its exact location until the Battle Bus starts moving, with the Overlord Spire itself activating after the first Storm Circle begins.

Fortnite Overlord spire map location
Screenshot by Destructoid

Overlord Spires are tricky to defeat. The only way to eliminate them is to break the shields surrounding it while dodging its barrage of energy attacks. Nearby demon henchmen will also attack you, so you'll need to defend yourself against them. We also can't forget players who are drawn to the possibility of grabbing an Exotic weapon for themselves.

Fortnite Overlord Spire
Screenshot by Destructoid

Overall, the Overlord Spire itself isn't difficult to defeat as long as you have enough gun ammo to shoot down its shields and some extra health in case some stray henchmen bullets hit you. The main obstacle is other players, especially those who frequently visit these spots to get some loot. If someone else reaches the Overlord Spire before you or steals the Exotic, chase after them and eliminate them to drop the weapon, letting you grab it back before continuing with your match.

Ambrosia Sky gameplay screenshot

As I continue my trek through a mountain of Steam Next Fest demos, I feel compelled to let the world know about one that caught me by surprise this morning.

I saw Ambrosia Sky's trailer during one of many game showcases this past weekend and didn't think too much of it, but now that I've played it, I think it's one to keep an eye on for whenever it launches because it's got a unique hook and some fun potential.

Ambrosia Sky gameplay cutscene screenshot
Screenshot by Destructoid

In Ambrosia Sky, players "take on the role of Dalia as she returns to her home in the outer rings of Saturn to investigate strange deaths and the alien contamination that caused them," all from a first-person perspective as you use a chemical sprayer to clean up alien fungus that is growing throughout the space colonies.

"When we first started thinking about Ambrosia Sky, we were initially interested in how we could blend the 'job sim' style of gameplay, similar to PowerWash Simulator, with narrative-heavy exploration," the game's devs at Soft Rains said in a blog post. "This led us to consider different forms of cleaning in the world, which in turn led us to death cleaners and individuals who clean up after a person passes away. We then connected those acts of care with the rigorous standards of jobs in biohazard cleaning."

The gameplay immediately evokes memories of PowerWash Simulator, as you're able to change up your spray type and nozzle to better suit the situation, all while getting upgrades to make the job easier as you take on clean-up missions throughout the campaign.

As you clean up the varying alien fungi, you can also harvest fruit from them to research and get different spray types like one that's flammable, one that's electric, and more to help you throughout the missions.

But there's a bit more to it, too. The main character, Dalia, also has a grappling hook on her left hand that she can use to traverse bigger areas within the confines of these space buildings, but also use it to grab items from a distance and then throw them, too.

Ambrosia Sky gameplay screenshot of a room filled with alien fungus
Image via Soft Rains

And another main mechanic in the game is to find the recently deceased among the fungal mayhem to help deliver last rites, which is a very sweet touch to the game that plays cozier than it may sound as a concept. This facet of the game reminds me greatly of the 2008 film Sunshine Cleaning about a family's business of cleaning up after crime scenes and grisly deaths, something that must be done with care.

If you'd like to check out Ambrosia Sky yourself, and I highly recommend you do so, you can try out the demo during Steam Next Fest right now.

A sandworm in Dune Awakening

Dune Awakening has many different skills to unlock, and prioritizing the best will help you manage your resources and improve your character faster and better.

Before deep diving into the best skills, it's important to understand they're class-specific. When creating a new character, you get to pick your class, and there are no so-called best classes. Every class has its skill tree: you begin with one and then unlock more by leveling up.

Top skill choices in Dune Awakening

I have presented the skills and added their descriptions in a tabular format to make it easier for you to understand. You'll need to use the skills within the specific class as outlined in the table. After picking the class you like, use the information in the following table to build your character up in Dune Awakening.

The Trooper skill tree in Dune Awakening
Screenshot by Destructoid

Skill name Class Reason
Shigawire Claw Trooper The Trooper class is focused heavily on movement and combat. The Shigawire Claw skill makes it easy for you to climb taller surfaces like mountains, allowing you to bypass terrains that have vertical challenges. The skill might be extremely basic in nature, but it's super easy to unlock. You can fully build out this specific branch first, as there are plenty of benefits in the late and endgame.
Bindu Sprint Bene Gesserit The Bindu Sprint allows you to sprint and reduce the time taken to travel between different distances. However, it consumes stamina, and by a lot, so don't think of using it to escape the Sandworms.
Knee Charge Swordmaster The Knee Charge is a favorite choice of mine. It's a mobility skill that allows you to cover distance, but it also deals damage. The potential damage is enough to take out unshielded enemies. While the cooldown is on the higher side, the mobility and damage make the skill worth the grind.
Ignore Bene Gesserit Unless there's a nerf, you can use Ignore to attack enemies without alerting them. The skill is so effective that I feel there will be a nerf in the future. It completely hides your presence from the enemies.
Sentinel Mentat If you have gone with the Mentat class, it's best to unlock Sentinel early. It passively boosts your damage, which scales up as you grow your characters. Mentat is useless against shielded enemies, but it's still one of the best skills in the game.

So far, in my experience, skills aren't a gamebreaker. You can still progress smoothly without going for the most meta choices for your class. However, opting for the more effective ones will hasten your in-game progression. If I had to recommend a path, begin with the Trooper class, as it's easier to master (you can make a few mistakes but remain okay for the most part).

Mario Kart World Daisy jetski

Okay, Mario Kart gamers. We've had a few days now to digest Mario Kart World and all it has to offer. How are we feeling?

I love the game. I reviewed it with a high score, and I've been enjoying myself hopping on for some Free Roam or Knockout Tour whenever I have some free time. I think it's a joy to play...only until it isn't. And therein lies the rub with our old pal Mario and his karts. Those damn items.

Screenshot by Destructoid

I am SICK of Mega Mushroom. I'm sick of getting flattened by a giant Baby Peach as they monster truck my ass from behind and blow past me in the standings. Also, the frequency at which I am in first place (not very often) compared to how often I get hit by a Blue Shell immediately when I am in first place is astounding.

There's also the classic Lightning which sucks all the joy out out of your life, shrinks you down, and stops all of your momentum, all while destroying whatever item you were saving. And then, of course, there's Bullet Bill, the reward for being in last place. UGH.

And so I ask you, Destructoid, what's the worst, most rage-inducing item to get trolled by in Mario Kart? As I said, for me, it's the Mega Mushroom. The new MKW item turns characters gigantic and gives them a speed boost, allowing them to flatten anyone in their path. It's infuriating.

Completing story quests is one of the best ways to quickly earn XP in Fortnite while also keeping up with the ongoing storyline. Some of the first story quests you need to finish in the Super season are the Trials of Morgan Myst.

Like most story quests, these have some decently tricky tasks that challenge you to interact with some gameplay features you may not be familiar with. If you're struggling to get these missions done, here's how to complete all Trials of Morgan Myst quests in Fortnite.

All the Trials of Morgan Myst quests in Fortnite

Screenshot by Destructoid

The Trials of Morgan Myst quests are divided into two separate quest series, one for Hope and one for Morgan Myst herself. There are seven quests in total, and you start with Hope's quests and work your way over to Morgan Myst's. Here are all of the quests you need to get done.

Hope's quests

  • Damage opponents within five seconds of using Supernova Gear.
  • Copy the actions of Morgan Myst's shadow proxies to synchronize them.
  • Check in on the newly reynced Morgan Myst's shadow at Supernova Academy.

Morgan Myst's quests

  • Gather surveillance gear at Supernova Academy.
  • Assemble surveillance gear at Demon's Domain.
  • Collect Spire Fragments for further analysis.
  • Deliver the fragments to Superman for study.

Damage opponents within five seconds of using Supernova Gear

Your first task is to acquire some Supernova Gear. This is just a fancy term for any of the superhero weapons or utility items you can find around the island. All of the ones that count for this quest are as follows.

  • Myst Gauntlets
  • Bass Boost
  • Tracking Visor
  • Killswitch Revolver

All of these items can be looted from chests, found in Superhero Caches, on the ground, looted from stands, or acquired from behind the Academy Tech Labs locked doors. If you're having trouble finding them, head to the Supernova Academy and loot around there. This location always has plenty of Supernova Gear.

Once you have at least one of these items in your inventory, use it and immediately strike an enemy right after. You have to act quickly to get this task done, but you don't actually need to use the Supernova Gear to deal damage unless you want to. All you need to do to get this task done is use Supernova Gear and deal 500 damage against any enemy within five seconds. This includes both enemy players and any other opponents you find around the island, like demon guards.

Copy the actions of Morgan Myst's shadow proxies to synchronize them

Screenshot by Destructoid

Your next task is to find and copy the actions of three Morgan Myst shadow proxies. There are six of them around the island, but you only need to interact with three to get this task done. Here's where you can find the shadow proxies.

  • West of Shiny Shafts
  • Northwest of Lonewolf Lair
  • North of Shining Span
  • South of Shining Span
  • Northwest of First Order Base
  • South of Demon's Domain

Once you're at any of these locations, look for a shadowy red figure nearby. This figure looks the same as Morgan Myst and is always marked with a diamond icon that has an exclamation point in it.

Approach the figure and copy whatever they're doing. One of the three proxies I went to crouched, so I did the same. The other jumped, so I copied this behavior instead. There may be other behaviors for the other proxies, but all of them should be fairly simple and easy to identify.

Check in on the newly reynced Morgan Myst's shadow at Supernova Academy

After copying three shadow proxies, head to Supernova Academy to check in on the real Morgan Myst. You can find this NPC near the north end of the area, hanging out downstairs by a training room. Chat with her to progress to the next step.

Gather surveillance gear at Supernova Academy

You're now moving on to Morgan Myst's quests, and the first one asks you to gather three surveillance gear items from around Supernova Academy. These items are located downstairs in the building near the northeast end of the area.

The three items you're looking for are three pieces of surveillance gear, which basically assemble a camera. They're all marked with white sparkles and a diamond icon that has an exclamation point in it.

Assemble surveillance gear at Demon's Domain

Once you've obtained all three pieces of surveillance gear, head to Demon's Domain near the very south end of the island. Head over to the cliff near the east end of this location and look for the icon marking the right spot. Interact with this spot three times to set up all three pieces of surveillance gear.

Collect Spire Fragments for further analysis

Your next task is to collect three Spire Fragments for further analysis. There are eight different locations you can visit to find them, but you only need to travel to three. The eight spots that have one for you to grab are:

  • Flooded Frogs
  • North of Supernova Academy
  • East of Lonewolf Lair
  • South of Brutal Boxcars
  • North of Utopia City
  • South of Utopia City
  • North of Demon's Domain
  • North of Canyon Crossing

Screenshot by Destructoid

These are all of the same locations where Scout Spires may spawn, so there's a chance you'll have to face a few of them depending on whether you visit a spot that has one. You can ignore them to focus on this quest since the Spire Fragments can be grabbed from the ground without interacting with the boss located there.

Spire Fragments appear as small chunks of rock sitting in the corrupted areas around the map. Like most other items included in this quest series, they're marked with some white sparkles and a diamond icon to help you find them.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Deliver the fragments to Superman for study

The final step in this quest series is to deliver the Spire Fragments to Superman. You can find him near the south end of Supernova Academy, wandering around inside the building located there. Chat with him to pass them over and officially finish all the Trials of Morgan Myst quests.

Fortnite Bass Boost supernova gear

Being the most powerful hero in Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3: Super is a challenge, especially if you don't have the tools to utilize your strength. Getting your hands on Supernova Gear is the way to go if you're trying to get an edge in battle or complete quests.

Where to find Supernova Gear in Fortnite

The easiest way to find Supernova Gear is to visit Supernova Academy and loot its holographic armor stands. You'll find Supernova Academy in the northern half of Fortnite's map above Brutal Boxcars and west of the First Order Base. You can also find Supernova Gear as chest loot, floor drops, or player eliminations.

Any new equipment that's exclusive to Chapter 6, Season 3: Super, such as Myst Gauntlets, Bass Boost, or the Tracking Visor, is viable for this. Depending on the gear type you pick up, you may need another weapon, most likely a gun of some kind, to inflict damage for your quests.

Fortnite supernova gear inside academy stand
Screenshot by Destructoid

Here's a list of every Supernova Gear, also known as a Hero Item, available in Fortnite:

  • Killswitch Revolver
  • Tracking Vistor
  • Bass Boost
  • Myst Gauntlets
  • Surf Cube (Coming soon)
  • Storm Beast's Pom Poms (Coming soon)

Not all Supernova Gear is ideal for dealing damage. While Myst Gauntlets are fantastic for this, with them alone being enough to complete quests like "damage opponents within five seconds of using Supernova Gear," others are utility items that help you survive. For example, Bass Boost has low damage output, but its high jump ability and knockback can help you get a strong combo off if you have other weapons to help you. Without additional damage-dealing gear, it won't quite be enough to complete this objective.

The best way to get Supernova Gear is to loot Academy Stands around Fortnite's map. Supernova Academy is the go-to place for these, with its secret tech labs each having a weapon stand for you to claim. However, these rooms are locked behind Hero Rank, with only one lab available at the default C-rank and more opening as you survive storm circles, eliminate players, and defeat henchmen.

If your Hero Rank is B or higher, you can open Hero Caches around the map for these items. Although this is slower than visiting Supernova Academy and claiming a weapon stand, it's a great alternative if you want to try out different types or are close to finishing the quest and need a bit more damage output.

Three characters in Splatoon Raiders spinoff

The first-ever spinoff for Splatoon is debuting exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. This spinoff is called Splatoon Raiders and was revealed through a surprise short trailer that dropped on June 10.

Splatoon has had quite a few games released over the years, but this series has never seen a spinoff until now. Since all Splatoon games are made by Nintendo, it's not too surprising that this one is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive game.

https://youtu.be/ALy6oi9UIjc?si=BWcaVDacMIYb3hv1

In this game, you'll take on the role of a mechanic sent off on an adventure to the Spirhalite Islands. You're joined by the iconic Deep Cut trio from Splatoon 3, including Shiver, Frye, and Big Man, so there are some familiar faces to help you along your journey.

The trailer follows a helicopter with you and the Deep Cut trio flying toward the mysterious Spirhalite Islands. A strange glow appears in the sky, and chaos erupts, sending your helicopter swirling through the sky.

After this shot, we see several gameplay scenes showcased. There's a large wooden raft, various shots of the character you play as, fishing, and of course, plenty of shooting. The trailer for Splatoon Raiders only takes up about 1:10 of the 5:30 trailer, and the rest of it is dedicated to a new free update for Splatoon 3 arriving on June 12.

Image via Nintendo

The Splatoon 3 update highlighted in this trailer features a fresh collection of weapons, the Splatlands collection. There are 30 new weapon kits included in this collection. The Urchin Underpass stage from the original Splatoon is also returning in Splatoon 3.

No release date was shared for Splatoon Raiders, and no additional information has been revealed outside of this small glimpse into what the game will entail. Nintendo did confirm that more details will be shared in the future, so we're sure to learn more about this upcoming release soon.

While you wait for Splatoon Raiders to arrive, there's plenty to keep you busy on the Nintendo Switch 2, like unlocking mirror mode or rewinding time in Mario Kart World.
