Kotaku Tuesday, September 10, 2024 9:45 AM Concord's servers officially went offline last Friday on September 6. The company has since taken the unprecedented step of also removing the game entirely from players' PlayStation accounts. |
Kotaku Tuesday, September 10, 2024 9:30 AM There have been a lot of amazing characters recently released in Honkai: Star Rail, from the powerful Firefly to the version of March 7th following The Hunt path. Kotaku Tuesday, September 10, 2024 9:10 AM Gaming tags on Steam are used with wild abandon, to the degree that they're fairly useless. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 1:15 PM Arrowhead Game Studios is now a decent chunk of the way into its 60-day plan to get its co-op shooter Helldivers 2 back on track. While it soared to dizzying heights early in the year, it's now in something of a slump, but here's one small but significant piece of news about its upcoming balancing update that might tempt ex-Helldivers to come out of retirement. Flame weapons are receiving a generous buff, and they may even become better than they were before Helldivers 2's controversial Escalation of Freedom update. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 1:04 PM In a world rapidly becoming overcrowded with live service games that cock their hats at infinity, it's a surprising breath of fresh air to see a developer announce that the next DLC for a title will be the last one. We've known for a while that The Dark Horizon for Remnant 2 will be its final DLC, and now that day is finally nearly here. The launch date for both this slice of content and an accompanying free game mode have been announced, and there isn't long to wait. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 12:35 PM After observing the rumor mill spinning for months regarding the Meta Quest 3S, all has seemingly been confirmed by none other than Meta itself. An image of the supposed new, cheaper headset has been discovered in the Quest Link app on PC. The Meta Quest 3 is among the best VR headsets that money can buy, but unfortunately, they're still quite pricey. This is why the Quest 3S is a great idea, because it increases the affordability of VR, and could bring in a new wave of fans. It's just a shame the headset doesn't look very nice. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 12:34 PM It's 2022, and I'm the newly appointed news editor at PCGamesN. I'd been in the post for less than a month, then Gamescom rolled around. I'd never done live event coverage - I joined games media mid-pandemic - but I knew it was an opportunity for the ages. Cut to a month late; I'm running around Kolnmesse sweating, cutting through crowds to get to the Metal Hellsinger show with Trivium's Matt Heafy and Arch Enemy's Alissa White-Gluz. It was the best kind of chaos, and I'd never experienced anything like it. Sure, it was a trial by fire, but I felt like getting burned. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 12:16 PM Paradox has Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, and publishes Cities Skylines 2 - when it comes to strategy and city-building games, it is still the developer. But when it comes to fear, it's BHVR and Dead By Daylight that are vying for the top spot. Eight years since it first landed on Steam, Stellaris is still the best, biggest space strategy game. But while it's detailed and deep, it arguably neglects one key characteristic of our boundless, unknowable universe, something fundamental to the experience of space exploration: fear. This is where the new Stellaris DLC becomes essential. Built in collaboration with the maker of DBD, it makes Paradox's star-bound strategy stalwart suitably scary. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 12:12 PM Thanks to Amazon, we now have an idea about when the AMD X870 motherboard release date could be. Although there isn't any official confirmation just yet, a listing on the mega retailer is the first sign of an arrival time for the first wave of new 800-series motherboards that AMD's partners are releasing. The new X870 chipset is part of AMD's next-gen solution for gamers planning to run new Ryzen 9000 CPUs, although it does support other AM5 processors such as the Ryzen 7000 and 8000 series. These AMD motherboards feature enhancements like PCIe 5.0, USB 4, and WiFi 7 support, and we fully expect them to rank among the best gaming motherboards available once they launch. However, it's worth noting that current chipsets like the X670 will also support Zen 5 CPUs, thanks to using the same AM5 socket. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 11:20 AM Time moves fast, videogames even more so. What was new in 2020 is a throwback four years later. Some series survive. Civilization remains a mainstay of PC gaming. Everyone still loves Half-Life. There's plenty of life in Resident Evil. But for all the games that never fade away, a hundred more are lost to the annals of history. In 1987, one action, fighting, and ninja game paved the way for the likes of Tenchu and Sekiro with a mix of puzzles and combat. You could be forgiven for thinking it was lost for good, but now, four decades since it first arrived, it's arguably hotter than ever - in less than 60 minutes, The Last Ninja Collection has obliterated its funding goal. |
PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 11:03 AM I just can't get enough of beat-'em-ups if I'm honest. What started as a love of Castle Crashers evolved into trying out the Battletoads reboot and taking a chance on TMNT Shredders Revenge. Thrashing waves of enemies in these games never gets old, but doing so with increasingly powerful moves and equipment is even better. That's why combining beat-'em-ups with RPG mechanics is a tried and true formula, giving you even more ways to smash your foes. This is what Immortal Hunters is all about, but combined with a Hades-like art style. It's finally arrived on Steam. Oh, and there's a demo you can try for free as well. PCGamesN Tuesday, September 10, 2024 1:24 PM What are the best cars in Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown? While the Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown car list was teased to feature over a hundred vehicles before launch, now the game is here it appears to have just shy of that figure, coming in at 99 in total. Cars can be bought at the various dealerships all over the island, but since Solar Coins are so tough to earn compared to the price of most cars, you need to know you're spending your money on something worthwhile. There are five categories of vehicle in Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown: daily drivers, grand tourers, hypercars, off-road, and supercars. Meanwhile, dealerships focus on manufacturers and nationalities mostly, such as the British, German, and Italian dealerships. Then you have individual dealerships for Ferrari and Lamborghini, plus a Classic cars dealership too. Affording them will be a touch easier thanks to the upcoming compensation, though they're still expensive. Intel is expected to launch its new best gaming CPU, the Core Ultra 9 285K, by the end of 2024, along with a supporting lineup of cheaper chips. The launch will come after the release of the AMD Zen 5 lineup, but it looks as though Intel is adopting a different pricing strategy from AMD. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, September 10, 2024 12:15 PM There's something about mostly empty urban centers in the US that depresses me and disturbs my soul. Whenever I visit family in the States and find myself in a derelict shopping plaza or some other place affected by America's depressing sense of architectural planning and overreliance on cars, I can't help but feel a sense of dread. Devil's Hideout, a point and click horror game made by indie dev Cosmic Void, takes place in one such abandoned American city, and manages to deliver on this sense of dread even if its eerie hellscape is rough around the edges. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, September 10, 2024 10:06 AM I've been looking forward to playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 for yonks, but had convinced myself that performance-testing it would have some of my lesser graphics cards quivering in their PCIe slots. All those onscreen 'Nids, yeah? And the stutterfest that was the recent preview build? Surely enough to make a Tech-Priest shed at least one oily tear. But nah, turns out it's fine. Pretty good, actually – perhaps not to the extent that you should tackle Space Marine 2 on a crusty notebook (or, for the record, a Steam Deck), but it runs decently on minimum specs and is noticeably more stable than in that preview. The only thing that might offend your PC's machine spirit is some quality setting weirdness, where dropping or raising the graphics options can produce inconsistent results. |

Square Enix revealed that FFVII Rebirth will be compatible and offer enhanced features when played on the recently revealed PS5 Pro console model. Sony offered a brief look at FFVII Rebirth running on the new hardware during the technical presentation broadcasted on September 10, 2024.
While the footage shown during the presentation was limited to a few seconds of gameplay, Square Enix confirmed that FFVII Rebirth will be compatible with the PS5 Pro Enhanced feature that was announced during the presentation. The company shared a post on the FFVII Remake project X (formerly Twitter) official account showing two screenshots of the game possibly running on the new hardware.
You can take a look at the screenshots here:
Square Enix hasn't detailed what the new enhanced features will be for FFVII Rebirth, and more information about them will appear in the future. However, given what was shared during the PS5 Pro Technical Presentation, people can expect higher fidelity and sharpened image all rendering modes in the game, as well as enhanced performance for the fidelity mode.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is readily available for the PlayStation 5. The game will be compatible with the PS5 Pro Enhanced feature when the console launches in November 7, 2024.

HoYoVerse and McDonald's announced that there will be a Genshin Impact crossover event that will include codes for a Wind Glider cosmetic, Namecard background, a Golden Apple Pastry recipe, and other in-game rewards. It will take place between September 17-29, 2024, and Beidou and Kazuha will be the featured characters for the campaign. However, people do need to use the official McDonald's app to take part.
There will be two promotions in the app tied to the campaign, and we will need to purchase select items to get the rewards. To get the Golden Apple Pastry recipe, three of that new in-game dessert, and 40 Primogems, someone will need to order the Genshin Impact Apple Pie. This is identical to the ordinary apple pie sold by the store, but the box will feature Beidou and Kazuha in their casual clothing.
To get the Wings of Delicacies Wind Glider and Celebration: Crispy and Sweet Namecard, someone needs to buy the limited Genshin Impact Deluxe McCrispy meal. Keep in mind, that is different than the normal Deluxe McCrispy Combo Meal. It includes the chicken sandwich, a drink, an order of fries, and the apple pie in the limited-time box. Note that while you are getting that apple pie that is the other campaign item, it doesn't seem to also include that separate code for the new recipe and Primogems.
There's also a trailer for the Genshin Impact McDonald's event, which highlights the casual clothing for Beidou and Kazuha and shows them getting food from the app.
It isn't uncommon for HoYoVerse to arrange these types of tie-ins between its games and restaurants. For example, there was one such collab with KFC. Diluc and Noelle were the featured characters for that one. Since it wasn't available worldwide, the company eventually made the rewards tied to it available via other methods like a Twitch campaign and a login event. A Domino's Pizza event was also held at one point, as was a Pizza Hut one involving Ningguang and Yelan.

Sony revealed its newest PS5 Pro console variant during the PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation on September 10, 2024. The release date is November 7, 2024, and this model will cost $699.99/£699.99 GBP/€799.99/¥119,980.
The PS5 Pro will not include a disc drive. Sony will sell one as an additional peripheral to go with it. In addition the vertical stand will be sold separately as well.
Mark Cerny, the PS5 Head Architect, emphasized a desire to to bridge the divide between the Performance and Fidelity modes of the original version of the PlayStation 5 in the PS5 Pro. During the showcase, he stated one of the goals of this new variant is to deliver Fidelity Mode graphics at Performance Mode frame rates. The big three components, according to Cerny, are a larger GPU, enhanced ray tracing, and machine learning AI upscaling with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution.
The GPU in the PS5 Pro will be larger than the one in the standard PS5. Its RAM will be about 28% faster. As a result, there will be up to 45% faster rendering. Enhanced frame rates of up to 120 fps will also be available on select PlayStation 5 games enhanced for this variant. It will have a 2TB hard drive as well. The ray tracing upgrades will allegedly be double or triple the speed of PlayStation 5 calculations, while the PSSR AI upscaling technology will analyze frame by frame each pixel to fill in detail, similar to technology used in things like the Moguri mod for Final Fantasy IX on PCs.
Sony also released an official launch trailer, which you can see here:
The showcase featured enhancements on many of the first-party PlayStation titles like God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet & Clank.
The PlayStation 5 Pro will be available to purchase on November 7, 2024.

Back in August 2024, Pocketpair announced three Palworld Twitch drop Pal skins for the PC version, but didn't discuss anything for the Xbox Series X release. Now the company's taken to social media to explain why those weren't available on consoles and discuss a tentative plan for skin distribution going forward.
Pocketpair blamed the event skipping the Xbox Series X due to a lack of an account system. This means someone can't link the console version of the game to a Twitch account. It did note the team is exploring a way to send out skins to those players and, when it does, people playing on an Xbox console will get the three Twitch drops skins that appeared between August and September 2024.
Here is Pocketpair's full statement on Xbox Palworld Pal skins:
This announcement comes as the Twitch drops promotion ends. It started on August 21, 2024, and that first skin released was one for Relaxaurus. A second followed for Quivern between August 27, 2024 and September 3, 2024. Things came to a close with the Summer Chillet skin between September 3-10, 2024.
Palworld is in early access on the Xbox Series X and PC, and there's no word yet on when Pal skins will be distributed on consoles.

HoYoVerse not only announced the 1.2 Zenless Zone Zero Special Program, but also shared a trailer featuring Sons of Calydon characters at the Outer Ring. The new presentation for the update will air at 5:30am PT/7:30am ET/1:30pm CET on September 13, 2024.
First, here's the new character trailer. It's set up to act more as an introduction to Outer Ring. This is a location we've heard about, but never really seen in Zenless Zone Zero. We've been situated inside the city so far. That area is outdoors and rocky. It's also the home of the Sons of Calydon faction. We already saw two of them in the game since launch, Piper Wheel and Luciana de Montefio. In addition to Lucy making a cameo here, we also get to see new Zenless Zone Zero characters like Burnice White and Caesar King.
Here's that new video on YouTube:

New characters Caesar and Burnice will be hosts. They'll go over their movesets, new story and event missions, and dole out a redemption code for currency and in-game items. At the end of the showcase, there will be a replay of the Creamfields 2024 music festival performance of songs from the game.
Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the 1.2 Special Program airs at 5:30am PT/7:30am ET/1:30pm CET on September 13, 2024

Japanese voice actress Emi Shinohara, best known for her work as Sailor Jupiter in the original Sailor Moon, died on September 8, 2024. She was 61 years old. [Thanks, Oricon!]
According to her agency 81 Produce, Shinohara died from illness. However, it didn't mention what she had. Shinohara made her voice acting debut in 1986. Aside from her work as Sailor Jupiter, Shinohara also voiced Kushina Uzumaki in Naruto: Shippuden, Kaho Mizuki in Cardcaptor Sakura, and Agarte in Tales of Rebirth. She appeared on tokusatsu shows as well, such as when she appeared in Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger as Burstosaur Pternadon.
In her personal life, Shinohara was married to Hiroshi Watari, a fellow voice actor and singer. He's also a tokusatsu actor. She shared a birthday with fellow Sailor Moon voice actress Rika Fukami (Sailor Venus). The two often held shared birthday celebrations, as well as exchanged birthday congratulations over the phone every year.
Shinohara is not the only high-profile voice actress death in 2024. Earlier this year, Noriko Ohara (Nobita in Doraemon), Tarako (Maruko on Chibi Maruko-chan), Taiki Matsuno (Agumon in Digimon Savers), and Atsuko Tanaka (Bayonetta in Bayonetta) also passed away. With the exception of Ohara, most of them were around sixty years old.
Emi Shinohara died on September 8, 2024 from an unspecified illness.
