Valorant agent Harbor's toolkit is useless in its current form

As a sworn controller main, I was stoked when Riot dropped a water bender who spoke my language. I was all in, rooting for this guy to dominate, but after forcing him on my teammates for five months during my FPS game adventures, I had to wave the white flag. It's a shame to say it, but Harbor has got to be the biggest flop in Valorant controller history.

Imagine for a moment, if you will, that Persona 5 let you suplex your opponents. Even better, imagine if those moves were pulled off through timing based minigames that resembled the battles found in Nintendo's excellent (and underrated) Mario & Luigi RPG series. Sounds good, right? Well guess what, that game exists! It's called Wrestle Story and it's definitely a project to keep an eye on.

After spending twenty glorious minutes with its colourful demo at PAX East, I was keen to chat to creative director Steve Jimenez about the team's inspirations, the challenges of translating wrestling into a turn-based RPG and the exciting locations that players will attempt to liberate from a group of devious heels.

Earlier in the week, Liam and I had the opportunity to chat with Animal Well's solo developer and publisher Bigmode about creating their eerie subterranean world. We then had a chance to go hands on with the PAX East demo, and wow, we were both incredibly impressed. Watch the video below for our enthusiastic impressions:

If we could give an RPS 'Bestest Best in show' award to a game, is would be Animal Well. Liam and I loved the game's dense atmosphere, spider-web of interconnected caverns, and creepy creatures that lurk in the dark. We also loves the effects the game has, which reminded Liam of Octopath Traveler's visual flairs. If I had to compare it to one game, it would be Hollow Knight, which is very exciting.

We have plenty more PAX East indies for you to check out so make sure you have a peruse through our RPS@PAX tag. A couple of our favourites have been chaotic rouguelite Pizza Possum, Resident Evil-like Alone In The Dark, and island exploration game Mythwrecked.

Show me a game about a feral, furry creature with a never ending hunger for junk food and I'm immediately interested. I played Pizza Possum on the first day of PAX and knew it would make a great indie highlight for our time here at PAX East. Liam and I have now both played the demo and you can listen to our impressions in the video below:

What really appealed to us about Pizza Possum is how chaotic it is. It's like Untitled Goose Game but at double the speed. Playing the eponymous possum, you need you scamper around a sunny Mediterranean town scoffing as much food as you can get your grubby mitts on.

There's an element of hide-and-seek too, as there are patrol dogs who will try and stop your food eating rampage, but you can quickly jump into a berry bush to thorw them off your scent. It's goofy fun, and we're completeley smitten with it.

Best Resident Evil game

Resident Evil 4 is back, and it's something of a big deal. Everyone's getting a chance to see a remake with its own special touches. It might even be a new favorite for someone. To honor the occasion, we figured it would be a good time to talk about which Resident Evil games we feel are the best and share our favorites.

While Resident Evil 0 is undoubtedly my favorite Resident Evil game of all time, I'm willing to set aside my personal bias and share what I really believe is the best Resident Evil game.

And, perhaps to no one's surprise, it's Resident Evil (2002) for the GameCube. Perhaps one of the best remakes of all time, it brought one of the most influential games of all time to then modern platforms. With gorgeous visuals, incredible audio design, and Crimson Heads, it still remains a standout entry. While Resident Evil 4 is a close runner-up for me, especially how it came to define an entire genre and generation of games, Resident Evil (2002) showed just how strong the foundations of the franchise really were. -- Kazuma

It is difficult to pick a single entry as the best one, I could endlessly talk about what each game brings to the series (yes, even Code Veronica and Resident Evil 6.) However, I am going to follow my gut feeling and say it's Resident Evil 2 (1998) for the original PlayStation.

Resident Evil 2 is the perfect sequel, both mechanically and in its story. It takes the themes, politics, and plot threads of the original to the next level, not unlike what Aliens and Terminator 2 did for their own franchises. While the shift from slow horror and suspense of the original, to a full-blown action adventure set during a catastrophic event might have been a steep change of direction for some, Resident Evil 2 proves to be an extremely good payoff to the events that the original 1996 game set in motion. It's also an upgrade in gameplay, to the point that it manages to hold its ground against its own 2019 Remake. -- Elliot

Planning on picking up a 500Hz monitor ahead of the upcoming Counter Strike 2 release date? Well, there's a chance Valve's multiplayer game won't make full use of the new standard, as churning out a matching frame rate appears to be a chore. That's not to say you'll ever have to go out of your way to boost fps to triple digits in Counter Strike 2, but even the mighty Nvidia RTX 4090 won't necessarily satiate speedy screens like the Alienware AW2524H.

Tchia is Heartwarming and Frustrating

Tchia is one of those games where I found myself loving so many things about it, but not always playing it. It's a joyful and delightful games in many way. The heroine is fun, the Soul Jump mechanic is novel, and the cultural tributes to New Caledonia are wonderful. But the thing is that it often gets a bit obtuse or tedious. Not to mention there are moments when it isn't good at telling you what to do.

Tchia is Heartwarming and Frustrating

Tchia stars a young woman living alone with her father on a small island. It's just the two of them, though a friend named Tre stops by with supplies. All seems peaceful and well initially. However, it's quickly answered why they are there, as a vicious man with otherworldly, fabric minions comes and abducts her father. Tre tells her he was taken by Meavora, and she needs to go and confront her. However, during the abduction, Tchia also discovered access to strange powers, ones that grant telekinetic and soul jumping abilities that let her go into animate and inanimate creatures and objects.

It's so refreshing and lovely. Even when meetings are short between people and Tchia, you can feel these moments are meaningful. The quiet opening showing her life with her father. The brief times she spends with people on different islands. Her reactions to her surroundings range from joyful to amusing to sometimes even terrifying. There's a sense of range and realism here. And it's all surrounded by this beautiful language and fantastic music. Not to mention there is this Soul Jump mechanic that

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdAGrXZC2iQ&ab_channel=Awaceb

Tchia's main problem is that it often isn't very good at being a game. It will tell you to do things, but not explain how. You need Stamina Fruits to increase her stamina bar for things like climbing, gliding and swimming, and you can find one on the island where Tchia lives with her father, but there's no introduction to it or encouragement to find it. You'll be asked to get pearls for a quest, but not taught how to dive or told what the Pearl Clam looks like. Play a Soul Melody to change the time of day! Well, how do you get out the ukelele to do so? These are the earliest examples you'll experience in the first 15-30 minutes, but it's a recurring theme.

It also lacks many of the quality of life features we've come to expect from games beyond tutorials. To get your bearings, you're supposed to treat the game like the real world, relying on maps and signposts to find where you are and should be going. Which could be novel. Except it often isn't clear where exactly you should be going. That compounds the tedious nature. Especially if it turns out accomplishing a task, when it isn't yielding a major bonus like a new Soul Melody, can honestly feel a bit unfulfilling.

Tchia is Heartwarming and Frustrating

Though the only time Tchia really disappointed me is when its many performance issues appeared. Since launch, and even before, a number of patches appeared. These took care of some of the more egregious issues on the PS5, such as everything being pitch black after a transition from a cutscene back to the game or when a loading screen ended. Once I finally started fighting Meavora's minions, it become more of an annoyance to set them on fire than a challenge. Especially if they'd get stick on some rocks or other environmental items.

Tchia is undeniably charming, features an amazing Soul Jump concept, and is this loving tribute to New Caledonia and its culture. But at the same time, it can occasionally feel discouraging to play. Whether its actual bugs, which to be fair Awaceb seems like it is trying to make real progress to fix, or design decisions that keep things obtuse, it can be frustrating. It's heartfelt to be sure and I'd say worth someone's time, but it's also a game you may want to watch for a while first before making any decision about it.

Tchia is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC.

steins;gate figures

Kahotan from Good Smile Company has shown off the Rintaro Okabe and Kurisu Makise Pop Up Parade figure prototypes from Steins;Gate. The Rintaro figure is in a further stage of development than the Kurisu one. From the picture, it seems that the Kurisu figure has not been painted yet. [Thanks, Kahotan!]

Since they are Pop Up Parade figures, you will not be able to change their poses. Generally speaking, Pop Up Parade figures are fairly small as well. The figures are both still in development, so there might be some changes in the sculpting or color for the final product.

https://twitter.com/gsc_kahotan/status/1639099723461308418

Kurisu Makise is a widely popular character when it comes to figures. Good Smile Company previously released several scale figures of her in various poses and outfits. For example, there is one of her in a bunny outfit, as well as one of her posing with a number of computers.

In Steins;Gate, Rintaro and Kurisu are the male and female leads, respectively. Rintaro, or Okarin, is the self-proclaimed mad scientist and Kurisu is a genius when it comes to neurology and physics. The story of Steins;Gate kicks off when Rintaro discovers Kurisu's dead body, only to discover later that Kurisu is actually alive. The plot focuses on the concept of time travel through the use of text messages and a microwave oven.

The Steins;Gate Pop Up Parade figures of Rintaro and Kurisu are in development at Good Smile Company.

All three items are releasing in Japan on June 10, 2023 and are currently available for pre-order from the Japanese Square Enix online store.

The Moogle slippers originally appeared in Final Fantasy XIV as a piece of equipment known as the Meandering Mog Slippers. They were introduced in patch 3.3 of the Heavensward expansion. Due to popular demand, the slippers were quickly released as merchandising.

As a reminder, Final Fantasy XIV will introduce a graphics update with its 7.0 version, and the development team recently commented on the progress of the update.

The Final Fantasy XIV Moogle slippers, mailman Moogle plush, and regular Moogle plush will release on June 10, 2023 in Japan, and are now available for pre-order from the Japanese Square Enix online store. Final Fantasy XIV is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC.

Liam and I had a fun time chatting with the folks over at Mega Cat Studios about their upcoming wrestling RPG WrestleQuest last year at PAX West, and this time at PAX East we finally cornered them in the ring for a proper interview.

Watch below to learn about how the developers created their zero to hero story, how they're addressing myths and persaonl issues in the world of pro wresting, as well as sharing a story about how one of the team got their nose broken in a wrestling accident during development.

My main take away from the interview is how much of the RPG incorporates all aspects of Wrestling, not just the ring fights we see on TV. Another interesting thing is that Mega Cat reached out to a handful of real-life wrestlers to ask their permission to use their likeness in the game - not an easy feat to secure, I'm sure.

I've played a bunch of indie game demos at PAX East, but none left my head reeling as much as 43 Studios' fiendishly frantic action platfotmer Hell Of An Office.
