One of the things you can do with a Steam Deck is use it for emulation. Someone at Valve is evidently aware of this, given the recent Steam Deck video - which we wrote about two days ago - contained a shot of a Steam library with a Nintendo Switch emulator in it.

Oops. Valve have since deleted and re-uploaded the video with the emulator removed.

It's easy to take backwards compatibility for granted on PC, so much so that we rarely even use the phrase "backwards compatibility". Most old games will simply run, and for everything else there's usually a compatibility mode built into Windows or DOSBox to get it going.

This didn't happen by accident, as an old blog post by a former Microsoft programmer explains. When Microsoft wanted users to switch to Windows 95, for example, they went so far as to add specific code that looked for SimCity and, if it was running, changed how memory allocation worked so that the game wouldn't crash.

Splatoon 3 x Pokémon

Nintendo is combining the clout of two of its most powerful brands for the next Splatfest. The Splatoon 3 x Pokemon Splatfest will pit Splatoon players against each other in a three-way conflict. The question at heart: Which of the three starting Pokemon types is the best? For North America, the Splatfest is scheduled for November 11-13, 2022.

Since the first Pokemon games launched in 1998 (or 1996), players have been given a choice of three types for their starter: Grass, Fire, or Water. Now, the Splatoon 3 x Pokemon Splatfest will put the choice to Splatoon players, having them choose to join Team Grass, Team Fire, or Team Water. Each team is aligned with a member of Deep Cut, the Splatcast hosts.

As with other Splatfests, players will choose their team ahead of time. When the event kicks off, all Turf War matches will be held between the different teams. At the halfway point, Tricolor Turf War is activated. During Tricolor matches, the leading team will take on both of the other teams simultaneously. At the end of the event, the winning team is determined, and its members are awarded Super Sea Snails. The Snails can be used to add stars and sub ability slots to gear.

Check out some art created to promote the Splatoon 3 x Pokemon Splatfest in the gallery below.

Though the Splatoon 3 x Pokemon Splatfest is set for November,  it may not arrive before Nintendo implements some planned changes to Splatfests. In a statement from September, Nintendo said it was working to address complaints raised about the quality of matchmaking, particularly for Tricolor Battles. Many players would select Tricolor but be placed into a standard Turf War. Nintendo said it intended to implement the adjustments with the next season, beginning in December 2022.

Splatoon 3 is readily available on the Nintendo Switch. The Splatoon 3 x Pokemon Splatfest is scheduled for November 11, 2022, at 4:00 PM PT through November 13, 2022, at 4:00 PM PT.

kimetsu no yaiba demon slayer art book coloring book

Viz has announced a Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba art book, as well as a second coloring book. Both will come out in Summer 2023. While the coloring book will only feature art from creator Koyoharu Gotouge, the art book will include pieces from ufotable.

The Art of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Anime will have over 300 pieces of art from the show. This is a separate art book from The Art of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, which only uses art from Koyoharu Gotouge. For the anime version of the art book, there will likely be storyboards and drafts from the show. You will likely also be able to see eyecatch art, as well as read trivia on the design choices.

The first Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba coloring book came out in 2021 for the West. The second one originally released in October 2021 for Japan and you can get a teaser for some of the pages on Shueisha's website. Characters who appear include members of the Rengoku family, as well as Akaza. There are some pages from the manga that you can color in as well.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a highly-successful anime and manga series that debuted in 2016. It follows Tanjiro on his journey to find the demon who killed his family. His goal is to turn his sister Nezuko, who transformed into a demon, back into a human. Aside from the show and manga being a juggernaut in terms of popularity, the movie also won three awards during the 44th Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony in 2021.

The Art of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Anime and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Official Coloring Book 2 will come out in Summer 2023.

p4g p3p

Atlus has announced that ports of P3P (Persona 3 Portable) and P4G (Persona 4 Golden) will come out on January 19, 2023. These games were originally on the PSP and PS Vita, respectively. Though the announcement only displays Microsoft platforms, the two games will also be available on PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Switch.

https://twitter.com/Atlus_West/status/1578696035932815360

Back in June 2022, Atlus announced that it would port P3P, P4G, and P5R onto modern consoles. Persona 5 Royal's PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC versions will launch on October 21, 2022. Trailers for the ports have not made clear if they will be completely faithful or if they will restore some aspects of the original PS2 games that the portable versions cut. For example, in Persona 3, you could explore Iwatodai freely, while P3P made it so you could only choose locations from a menu.

Persona 3 Portable originally came out in 2009 and allowed players to choose a female protagonist. This altered Orpheus and social link stories, as well as offering the choice of a male Velvet Room attendant. P3P did not include "The Answer." Persona 4 Golden first debuted in 2011 and a Windows PC port of it appeared in 2020. It included social links for Adachi and new character Marie, and added new voice lines and anime cutscenes.

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will come out on the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Windows PC on January 19, 2023.

fate/grand order halloween 2022

As if Lasengle knew in advance that Konami would remaster Suikoden I and II, it has announced a new upcoming Halloween event for Fate/Grand Order that will launch in mid-October 2022. It will be based on Water Margin. Water Margin is one of the oldest Chinese novels and it focuses on a group of 108 rebels. The event is called "The 108's Halloween Rebellion - Little Dragon Lady's Water Margin Romance."

In order to access it, players will need to first complete Lostbelt No. 5, which is Olympus. On the official website for Fate/Grand Order, Lasengle has shown off a new Servant who will appear in the event. It is unclear if she is going to be a free SR Servant, or an SSR in the gacha. So far, we only know her title, which is the Assassin of Mt. Liang. Like Servants from the Epic of Remnant arcs, players will have to unlock her real name through the story.

[gallery columns="1" ids="936992" link="file"]

The Japanese version of Fate/Grand Order recently ended its new Shin-Yamataikoku event. This event introduced new Servants Sen no Rikyu and Yamanami Keisuke. The welfare Servant was Iyo, who is a SR Ruler. Players on the Japanese version of Fate/Grand Order will also get 10 free Saint Quartz when they log in as part of the promotion for the Halloween 2022 event.

Fate/Grand Order is readily available on mobile devices. The Halloween 2022 event will debut in mid-October 2022.

Graphics cards are getting bigger, hotter and more expensive - and that first one is more of a problem than you might think. With the RTX 4090 and a whole family of oversized GPUs on the way, those tiny PCIe slots on your motherboard are taking on an incredible amount of weight, such that even mid-range cards can sag and bend over time.

The best way to prevent this is with a brace, which pushes up from the bottom of your case to the far end of the graphics card, holding it level and preventing all that force from affecting the card or the PCIe slot. You sometimes get a support brace like this free with your graphics card, but otherwise you can pick one up fairly inexpensively from a range of manufacturers.

blue archive censored

On October 4, 2022, Nexon announced that its gacha RPG Blue Archive will be split into two versions. Each version will have a different age rating, corresponding to one version having some of its artwork "censored" and the other having the artwork as it exists currently. To be more precise, they will be the "version with adjusted resources" and the "R-18 version." The R-18 version of the game will have a higher age rating. [Thanks, Automaton!]

Blue Archive Producer Kim Yong-ha explained the situation in a post dated on October 4th. According to Kim, the Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee contacted the team in September 2022. The committee gave them an ultimatum: Adjust the art or adjust the age rating. Kim said that while changing the art would be the simplest option, the team considered adjustments it had already made to the global (English) edition of Blue Archive, when in December 2021 it adjusted artwork for the character Arisu's story segments. This happened despite earlier promises from October 2021 that the team would not alter artwork for the global version. In light of the blowback from that incident of Blue Archive being "censored," Kim worried that repeated changes would negatively impact players. Thus the decision was made to raise the age rating of the current game, and produce a second, "all-ages" version of the app with "adjusted resources".

The version with adjusted resources will "undergo a thorough review" so as to keep the "visual personalities" of the characters. It will also not affect player accounts, so you can play either version without losing progress. Blue Archive will become an R-18 game in Korea. Meanwhile, the adjusted version will come out some time in the future.

This is not the first time that a game studio has had to implement artwork changes due following government intervention. In China, HoYoVerse changed the default outfits of characters Jean, Amber, Rosaria, and Mona in Genshin Impact to cover up more skin. The global editions received the adjusted versions as optional cosmetics. Blue Archive is also not the first game to have "censored" versions with separate age ratings. Some of DMM Games's titles are the same, and many adults-only games are sold on storefront like Steam in their all-ages incarnations, with optional patches or DLC to unlock the spicier content. But it is rare that a studio chooses to split a game in such a way after launch.

Blue Archive is readily available on mobile devices.

Chaos Head Noah Worth It 1A few days ago, it was announced that Chaos;Head Noah wouldn't get released on Steam today as planned. Shockingly, Valve had informed publisher Spike Chunsoft that the game's release would be blocked due to objectionable content. While the visual novel certainly does have some objectionable content, it isn't any worse than a great many of the games already on Steam. Plus, plenty of things on the store are much more objectionable. This is why it didn't come as a great shock when Valve reversed course and allowed the title to come out today, adding that the company was going to change the way it filters games by a bit to prevent games from being blocked from sale in the future for similar reasons. In case you've somehow dodged the series all these years, Chaos;Head Noah is a visual novel that's part of the Science Adventure series famous for titles with semicolons in them. This includes the beloved Steins;Gate. This one was co-written by the same...
