Yet I still can't help but also see the Game Awards as something else: a sign of progress. Star Ocean: The Second Story R
This remake of an RPG classic puts its own spin on the "HD-2D" idea, retaining the nostalgia of tri-Ace's PS1 original but with a new sort of look. And if you know, you know, but The Second Story R is a great opportunity for the tons of players who missed the game the first two times to see what makes it so special. After the last, you know, decade or two that the franchise has had, it's refreshing to see it revisit its more successful past.

Selen Tatsuki will take a break from streaming for a while due to a medical situation. The Nijisanji English VTuber broke the news on her own X account after a brief period of silence since her previous post.
The social media post revealed that the person behind the VTuber had an accident, and she had to be brought to a hospital. She regained access to her phone the day before the announcement, but she will have to stay under supervision for a few more days to make sure that her injuries are healing.

Selen Tatsuki is an English Nijisanji VTuber who debuted in July 2021. She has recently been well-known for participating in Apex Legends competitions with fellow VTubers, including those from Nijisanji and Hololive Production. However, a recent incident put her in the spotlight. Selen uploaded a cover of "Last Cup of Coffee" on the 2023 Christmas Day, but Anycolor took it down shortly afterward due to an 'internal verification process' issue.
Selen then reacted to the takedown by encouraging her followers to re-upload the song on their own channels. However, she went incommunicado after making the post until this announcement. Selen even missed the Lethal Company collab stream with fellow Nijisanji VTuber Reimu Endou, Hololive English's Nerissa Ravencroft, and VShojo's Zentreya on December 27, 2023.

The recently published demo version of Tekken 8 includes optional Color Support accessibility settings to support players with visual impairments, such as color blindness. The game's director, Katsuhiro Harada, also joined the conversation on X by mentioning details behind the new implementation.
Harada revealed that he and his team had previously developed a test build of Tekken 7 with accessibility settings. However, the team never implemented the new settings to the public releases. They instead opted to polish the features further to be implemented well in Tekken 8.
Harada's tweet, which also quotes the user-uploaded footage of the accessibility mode in Tekken 8, is available to view below. The quoted post also contains a thread showing screenshots of various accessibility settings from the game:
Accessibility settings have been widely discussed among game players and developers to support people with disabilities. Capcom has also added sound-based accessibility settings for Street Fighter 6, which came out earlier in June 2023. Sony Interactive Entertainment gave a Special Award to the game at PlayStation Partner Awards 2023 Japan Asia for having the accessibility features.
The demo version of Tekken 8, which also includes the Color Support accessibility settings, is immediately available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Bandai Namco will release the game's full version on the same platforms on January 26, 2024.

Square Enix has announced that it will terminate its operation services for Engage Kill on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at noon JST. It has also immediately ceased in-app purchases that let players purchase the in-game premium currency Orgonium with real money.
The developers cited difficulty in providing services that could satisfy players as the primary reason for shutting down the mobile game. Engage Kill is part of Project Engage, a joint mixed-media project set up by Aniplex in 2022. The first part of the project features the anime and manga title Engage Kiss.
A-1 Pictures produced the anime version of Engage Kiss, and it completed a single-season run from July 2022 to September 2022 with 13 episodes. The manga serialization also launched on Square Enix's Manga UP! platform, and the company also published its first tankobon volume in February 2023.
Square Enix opened pre-registrations for Engage Kill in Summer 2022, and the game eventually launched in Japan on March 1, 2023. The mobile game has not even reached its first anniversary yet when Square Enix announced its closure. While Engage Kill will have an overall lifespan of slightly over a year, it will pass through the anniversary day on a very somber note.
Square Enix has been reviewing the performances of its free-to-play mobile games in recent days, and it announced the closures for a good number of them as a result. The company will sunset the global English version of Dragon Quest Tact on February 29, 2024, although the original Japanese release will continue running. Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile, which is only released in Japan, will also be shut down entirely on March 29, 2024.
Engage Kill is available on iOS and Android mobile devices in Japan until March 21, 2024.

Nintendo published the Japanese Nintendo Switch yearly download ranking for 2023, revealing that Suika Game was in first place. The viral game managed to overtake even Nintendo's blockbusters like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4 to get the top spot.
Nintendo combined the download numbers for each title from both individual and bundle purchases made from January 1, 2023, to December 20, 2023. However, it only considered titles with a CERO rating in Japan, so games with only an IARC rating were not included here.

Aladdin X originally made Suika Game as a built-in app for its popIn Aladdin ceiling projector. The company then released the game on Nintendo Switch in December 2021. However, it wasn't until 2023 that the game caught the attention of Japanese streamers, which led to a massive popularity boost.
The game managed to reach 2 million downloads in October 2023. And more recently on December 14, 2023, Aladdin X updated the number further to 5 million. However, the game's sudden hit also led to warnings against fake merchandise and unofficial clone games on other platforms like the PlayStation Store.
Suika Game, which topped the Japanese Switch 2023 download ranking, is officially available worldwide on Nintendo Switch.

There are several collections of retro titles on the Switch but one of my favorites is the Mega Man X Legacy Collection. Players get the early titles from this action platforming series, which for me, represent the height of the franchise. Players have the option to buy this collection in two parts or one massive bundle with eight excellent titles starring Zero.
Best Port for RPG Fans: Persona 5 Royal
For my fellow RPG fans out there, look no further than Persona 5 Royal. This masterpiece definitive version of the monumental Atlus JRPG has all the unbelievable content from the base game plus the extraordinary third semester and new characters. I stand by that the Persona series works best in a handheld format, and this port nails it.
