Bungie lifts Marathon alpha restrictions, so you'll see new gameplay very soon

Bungie is lifting the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) players need to sign for the upcoming Marathon closed alpha, meaning anyone with access can share their feedback and footage online. The sci-fi extraction shooter is due out later this year, but some players are about to get a slice of the experience ahead of time. If you were one of the many who wasn't picked by Bungie to participate you don't need to worry, as you'll still see plenty new gameplay over the coming weeks. If this tells me anything, it's that Bungie is very confident in what we're about to see.

Runescape Dragonwilds is a love letter to the MMO, but a middling survival game

The music stops. I hear the sound of wings overhead. I jerk my head upwards, perplexed, desperately looking for the source of the commotion. Then a screeching, draconic roar reverberates through the valley around me. The trees begin to shake, their branches whipping in an unnatural wind. A shadow falls over Bramblemead as the scaly form of a huge green dragon flies overhead. The noise is deafening, I'm genuinely terrified, but there's a wondrous sense of majesty. In Runescape Dragonwilds, you are an ant in a world of giants, and that can feel equal parts oppressive and exciting.

sanrio u-treasure necklace

U-Treasure is releasing some special Sanrio necklace charms for the ongoing popularity poll for 2025. There are three different designs for the charm—a circle, a heart, or a diamond—and ninety different characters to choose from, making for a total combination of 270 variations.

The artwork that U-Treasure uses for the Sanrio characters is from the 2025 popularity poll. Each necklace costs 27,500 JPY ($193.40), and it uses K10 yellow gold. Purchasing this necklace also counts as supporting your favorite mascot. When you buy a necklace of a mascot, you're also contributing 50 points to the mascot's final tally in the popularity poll. So, even if you're not voting on the Sanrio website, you can help push your favorite towards the Top 10.

The Sanrio popularity poll for 2025 is now open for votes via the official website. After choosing who you like, you have to give Sanrio some basic information on yourself for demographic research purposes. Between April 10 and 13, 2025, Pompompurin is in first place. Behind him are Cinnamoroll, Pochacco, Kuromi, and Hello Kitty. Yoshikitty is dead last. These are only initial results, but Pompompurin edging ahead of Cinnamoroll in the popularity poll may mean that 2025 is the year in which Cinnamoroll, the reigning champion for five years, finally gets dethroned.

The 2025 popularity poll Sanrio necklace charms from U-Treasure are open for pre-order until May 23, 2025.

Fighting a goblin in RS: Dragonwilds

RuneScape: Dragonwilds' combat is a brutal battlefield filled with fierce goblins, savage beasts, and relentless dragons. Survival demands quick reflexes and powerful weaponry. Luckily, the right gear can tip the odds in your favor. Let's explore the best weapons to dominate the dangers lurking in RuneScape: Dragonwilds.

What are the best weapons you can use in RS: Dragonwilds?

Many of the best weapons in RuneScape: Dragonwilds involve completing a side quest that often consists of fighting against a formidable beast. Alternatively, you can craft them by gathering a multitude of items around the map. So, without further ado, here's a look at the best of the best weapons.

Chieftan's Blade

Chieftan's Blade in RS: Dragonwilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Type: One-handed Melee Weapon
  • Power Level: 3
  • Damage: 29-52
  • Attack Combo: 5
  • Block: 19.5
  • Special Action: Special Attack
  • How to get: Obtain the recipe at the top of the Fractured Plains and craft it

For those in search of a standout starter weapon, the Chieftain's Blade offers a unique option, and you can unlock its recipe while hunting for the Crystal Bow. Crafted from Antlers, Copper Bar, and Bones, its ingredients are simple to gather, making it one of the best early-game weapons in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. With damage output far surpassing that of your starting tools, it's clear why this blade once belonged to a fearsome Goblin Chieftain.

Abyssal Whip

an image of the Abyssal Whip in RuneScape Dragonwilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Type: One-handed Melee Weapon
  • Power Level: 4
  • Damage: 46-86
  • Bleed Build Up: 25
  • Attack Combo: 5
  • Block: 5
  • Special Action: Abyssal Snare
  • How to get: Defeat the Abyssal Demon and craft it

The legendary Abyssal Whip reignites its dominance in Dragonwilds, reaffirming its place as a weapon of unmatched power. With lightning-fast strikes and its Abyssal Snare ability to trap enemies in their tracks, this iconic weapon proves its might once again. However, obtaining it won't be easy, as players must confront one of the game's most formidable foes.

Iron Sword

Iron Sword in RS: Dragonwilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Type: One-handed Melee weapon
  • Power Level: 4
  • Damage: 45-82
  • Attack Combo: 5
  • Block: 23
  • Special Action: Special Attack
  • How to get: Crafting

Not every weapon requires a lengthy side quest, and the Iron Sword is a perfect example of this. While you can earn it the traditional way by working your way up from Stone to Bronze, there's a shortcut with the powerful Rocksplosion ability. The Iron Sword is one of my favorites, offering impressive damage, durability, and lightning-fast strikes. However, if you're looking for an alternative iron ore creation, you can opt for the brutal mace or the mighty warhammer, each with its own unique destructive potential.

Crystal Bow

Crystal Bow in RS: Dragonwilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Type: Ranged Weapon
  • Power Level: 3
  • Arrow Damage: x3.45
  • Special Action: Shattershot
  • How to get: Heartstrings quest or crafting

Wood-based bows are a solid choice early on in your RuneScape: Dragonwilds journey, but the Crystal Bow easily steals the spotlight. Its real power lies in its Shattershot ability, which embeds enemies with volatile crystal shards that detonate in a burst of damage. Its high arrow damage gives you a serious edge in ranged combat, letting you control the battlefield from afar.

Staff of Light

an image of the Staff of Light in RuneScape Dragonwilds
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Type: Two-handed Magic Weapon
  • Power Level: 4
  • Rune Damage: x4.5
  • Attack Combo: 4
  • How to get: Highlighting the Problem quest and crafting

If magic is more your style than weapon combat, the Staff of Light is a must-have for your arsenal. Channel the raw power of the elements and unleash devastating damage upon your foes. According to its lore, those who wield this ancient staff are granted enhanced resilience, allowing them to survive longer in the heat of battle.

There are undoubtedly more top-tier weapons waiting to be discovered in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. As I continue my journey through the game, I'll be on the lookout for even more powerful options to add to this guide.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds banner

Just over two weeks after its announcement, RuneScape: Dragonwilds has come out in early access. This co-op survival game drops you into a wild frontier full of resources to plunder and magic to learn, so I've been using the official RuneScape: Dragonwilds Discord to keep track of it all.

What's on RuneScape Dragonwilds' Discord server?

RuneScape: Dragonwilds Discord
Image via Destructoid

Many game developers have embraced Discord, and the team over at Jagex is no exception. The RuneScape: Dragonwilds Discord server is a fantastic place to keep up on the game. Whether you're struggling to track down a rare material for your latest project or looking for ways to enter a hazardous area without dying and dropping all your items, the RuneScape: Dragonwilds Discord server's got the answers you seek.

Unfortunately, Jagex hasn't made Dragonwilds' Discord server's link public yet, so I had to dive down a rabbit hole or two to find it.

After digging around, I discovered the link to the official RuneScape: Dragonwilds' Discord server is on the RuneScape: Dragonwilds wiki. I've got to say it's weird that Jagex hasn't done more to make the link easier to find, but it looks like the RuneScape fandom is doing its part to get the word out.

While the RuneScape: Dragonwild Discord is a handy resource for new players, I get that it isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you'd rather not use Discord, there are plenty of other RuneScape: Dragonwilds-related social media websites to help you keep up-to-date on the community's newest discoveries and report any bugs you encounter on your journey to slay dragons and make magic happen..

Here is every link I could find to official RuneScape: Dragonwilds social media pages.

With these links, you can learn about everything and anything about RuneScape: Dragonwilds. So what are you waiting for? Grab your tools and kick some dragon butt!

Fighting the dragon in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Picture this: You're chilling in your cozy base, crafting away, and feeling pretty good. You step away for a snack. You come back, and boom—your base is toast. That's been my RuneScape: Dragonwilds experience with the game's many random events, and it's become an absolute thorn in my side. But honestly? Part of me loves it for the chaos.

The random events come in two primary forms: one involves a dragon that suddenly appears in the sky, while the other brings a horde of goblins charging in. I can't decide which one I despise more since they both have a talent for showing up when you least want to see them.

The dragon scenario usually starts with a deafening roar that fills the air. It doesn't matter where you are; this majestic menace can appear out of nowhere, greeting you with a fiery, toxic breath. While I'll admit there's something undeniably cool about having a dragon to contend with, it does put a damper on travel. Sometimes, all I want is to wander, enjoy the scenery, and collect materials at my own pace. But alas, the dragon swoops in, leaving circular attack points on the ground for you to dodge, shattering those serene moments with no time to catch your breath. And let's not forget, everything else in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is out to get you, so your chances of surviving are already looking slim.

The worst place for the dragon to show up has to be the Stormtouched Highlands, a region where you're also contending with deadly lightning strikes. This happened to me more than once, with the terrain littered with blasts from both lightning and the dragon's breath. I found myself dodging left and right, almost like I was performing a messed-up dance routine with life-and-death stakes. Besides, it's not like you can slay the beast. You can't even see the darn thing in the sky. All you can do is run in circles for who knows how long, hoping it forgets you exist before you drop dead from exhaustion.

Even when you try to flee home after a dragon encounter, peace is far from guaranteed. That's when the goblins strike. Unlike the dragon, the game actually gives you a heads-up before their raids begin, and you may be able to get rid of them in a few minutes with a bow or sword, at least if you're in a Level 1 difficulty area. But if you've placed your base in a more dangerous region, you'll almost certainly be overwhelmed by the goblin hordes.

However, the true problem lies with going AFK. I learned that the hard way during my early days in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. I stepped away to write something, and when I returned, my base was wrecked, with only a lonely tombstone beside it to mark my character's untimely death. Now, every time I step away and hear the dreaded blare of goblin war horns, I sprint back to my computer as if my life depended on it—because it does—desperate to save my camp from the goblins' unruly reign. Nevertheless, taking them down sometimes feels glorious, letting me settle the score for what they did to me at the start of my run.

Although the random event experience has been infuriating, there's some comfort in knowing other RuneScape: Dragonwilds players, including fellow writer Madison in her Early Access review, are suffering right alongside me. In one post, a player points out how the game needs to tone down the dragon attacks, especially for those going solo. A major issue is that the creature's toxic breath blasts straight through rooftops, turning so-called safe zones into poison-filled coffins.

Another Reddit post suggests that these random events should happen less frequently in the Level 2 difficulty zones, as their frequency is becoming downright brutal. One user even claims they can trigger nearly every five minutes. After testing this myself, I can confirm it's spot on. Whether it's a dragon or a goblin, you're thrown right into the action again before you've had time to regroup.

Given the growing chorus of players speaking out on the issue, there's a good chance a much-needed debuff is coming soon. I'm not suggesting the random events should be entirely removed, but perhaps a gentler touch with their frequency would strike the right balance, just enough to keep things challenging without overwhelming us. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is still in Early Access, after all, and with the promise of regular updates, there's potential for a fix.

Thankfully, recent patches have already addressed a few pressing concerns, including the long-awaited resolution to gem drop inconsistencies. Here's hoping the next update targets those relentless dragon and goblin encounters; maybe then, I'll finally be able to enjoy some peace at my home base.

Warzone operators parachuting in to Verdansk

On the same day that Bluntman and Chronic have joined Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone, we may have just gotten our first taste of who is next to join the growing list of operators in the FPS juggernaut.

There's no such a thing as a secret in CoD or any live-service game these days, for that matter, with leaks and data mines spilling the beans on what's planned. The return to Verdansk in Warzone, for example, was leaked several months before it was even announced.

Well, the latest leak, should you choose to accept it, is that Ethan Hunt AKA Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible movie franchise will be the next CoD collab in 2025. This news comes from prolific and reliable leaker and reporter The Ghost of Hope, who has been correct and early on several similar stories, like the news of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is the finale of the decades-long action film franchise headlined by Cruise, and the film is due out on May 23, which means the collab will likely come out around the same time, if not shortly after.

While the BO6 and Warzone calendar is currently murky, it's most likely that season three will come to an end and season four will begin in early June, which lends credence to Hope's report. CoD has partnered with movie studios to promote films multiple times in the past, like adding skins from Dune: Part II and The Crow to name a few.

Cruise, who is somehow still doing wild action sequences at 62 years old, will be the least weird and out-of-place addition in CoD. The action star has been headlining movies for decades, so why shouldn't he be in your Warzone squad, too?

If this mission truly is possible, expect to hear about it within the next few weeks. If it doesn't happen in season four, it could be an addition as part of Season Three Reloaded, which is likely to arrive in early-to-mid-May.
