Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, April 19, 2025 5:55 PM ![]() Everything is expensive. Everything! Bills, food, video games, you name it. I mean, £75 for a game where you drive around as an Italian plumber? Not entirely convinced by this one, Mr. Bowser. I could get into the weeds of why all of this is happening (none of it for being particularly good reasons), but I won't because I bring word of something actually getting less expensive. Shock horror, I know, and yet here are Rockfish Games announcing that Everspace 2's upcoming Wrath of the Ancients DLC will be a bit cheaper when it launches. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Saturday, April 19, 2025 4:38 PM ![]() I always find it a bit odd when people make comparisons like "new game is the next game you really love" because you're most likely setting yourself up for some kind of disappointment. Atomfall was the most recent game to fall victim to such a framing, with many dubbing it as British Fallout, which it didn't end up being, nor was it likely intended to be. Thus, alongside some other issues, it's had a general reception of "yeah, it's not bad", which in a world of sequels upon sequels isn't always the response a developer might want. Still, a sequel is still clearly on developer Rebellion's mind. |

Arguably the biggest Star Warsy game announcement of the weekend is the first trailer for the Star Wars meets XCOM game Star Wars Zero Company, but it wasn't the only one. Turns out last year's Star Wars Outlaws' second story pack got a reveal too, and a release date to boot. |

Some of my favorite anime series are ones that follow an episodic structure, where almost every new episode follows a new smaller storyline for the main characters. Once Upon a Witch's Death slots nicely into this episodic structure and is at its best when it focuses on those smaller, more serious storylines rather than its comedic moments.
The story of this Spring 2025 anime series follows Meg, a young witch that finds out on her birthday that she will die in a year's time due to a curse. In order to reverse the curse and continue living in a year, she must gather a thousand pure tears of joy from people. This pretty much nets out to just under three tears per day for the next year.
![]()
The premise alone is a pretty serious one, dealing with the inevitability of death. That said, it does take a bit before Once Upon a Witch's Death fully realizes the potential of this story. Instead, it spends more than half of the first episode dealing with the comedic moments between Meg Raspberry, her friends, and her witch master who raised her.
These more comedic moments of Meg flirting or joking with characters and vice versa fall a bit flat. This show isn't the strongest when it comes to witty jokes or writing, so these sequences often feel like they're padding out the time before the good stuff. Of course, that good stuff is the numerous storylines that Meg deals with on a daily basis.
In the first episode alone, Meg helps a young girl and her father with the mother of the family that is asleep. This leads to a magical and emotional sequence of events that is just tragic enough without being overwhelming. it even gets better in the second episode when we see Meg deal with a couple of these serious instances back-to-back.
The end of the second episode of Once Upon a Witch's Death, in particular, is a standout sequence. It deals with grief, dying, and moving on in some powerful ways. But the best part of all of it is the writers for the anime series know when to not be too heavy-handed. As you might know yourself, anime is often a bit too forceful in its tragedy and heart-breaking scenes.
![]()
Thankfully, Once Upon a Witch's Death navigates these sadder moments beautifully. These scenes are short, sweet, and to the point without wallowing too much in the depressing side. In fact, I greatly appreciate that Meg's entire purpose is to get tears of joy. Most surprisingly, these tears often come out of otherwise saddening experiences. These episodes act as great coming-of-age lessons about finding the positive in the midst of the negative.
The production quality of the series is decent enough to help with the story. I will say that the animation quality is a bit behind most other similarly serious episodic series out there. Think of the greats like Violet Evergarden, Death Parade, and more. Unfortunately, Once Upon a Witch's Death tends to have animation that is more akin to a typical fantasy or isekai series.
That said, don't let the animation and its lackluster attempts at times at funny writing fool you. This show is well worth a watch for the Spring 2025 season if you want something a bit more serious with an equally emotional opening song. Once Upon a Witch's Death is at its best when it focuses on the episodic, often tearjerker mini-storylines. If you're into anime that smartly navigates these tough topics with solid pacing, you'll like enjoy this one.
Once Upon a Witch's Death is streaming right now on Crunchyroll.

Zani banner 4-star characters and weapons in Wuwa 2.3
Here's a list of all the characters in the first phase banners of Wuthering Waves 2.3:
Zani is a new Spectro DPS unit that uses Gauntlets as her weapon. Her playstyle is pretty interesting as she stacks Spectro Frazzle to gain special energy and switch into the Inferno Mode. In this mode, Zani's hair starts glowing, and she wraps her tie around her right arm. Interestingly, despite being a Gauntlet user, Zani mostly uses her shield as a weapon that also turns into a greatsword in combat.

For those who prefer a universal countdown:
Zani's release timings and countdown also apply to the Wuwa anniversary banners and version 2.3's release.
Kuro Games has not revealed the exact schedule for the events in version 2.3, but based on the past trends, Zani's banner should be available for three weeks. The requirements for better weapons and tools in RuneScape Dragonwilds mean that you'll constantly need new resources, and Oak Wood should be high on your priority list.
While the Stone Logging Axe can cut through the Ash trees in Bramblemead Valley, it falls short when you come across Oak Trees. The game will tell you the need for a stronger axe if you come across an Oak Tree. Ideally, the Bronze Axe is far more powerful than the Stone variant, and it helps you get Oak Wood.
How to collect Oak Wood in RuneScape Dragonwilds
The first step will be to level up your Woodcutting skills and gain access to the furnace. You are required to make the Bronze Axe, which is necessary to get Oak Wood. To start things off, get access to the Fractured Plains region.
This region is located north of the Whispering Swamp, with ores containing Tin and Copper. You can obtain both items by mining ores all over Fractured Plains. Once you have enough of both, you'll need the Furnace. The blueprint for this workstation is available after you mine Clay for the first time.
Here's the full recipe for crafting a Furnace.
After completing your Furnace, combine Copper and Tin Ores in it. Add charcoal in the middle, which acts as fuel. You can get Charcoal by burning Ash Wood in a Kiln. All three materials have to be smelted together to turn them into Bronze Bars.
![]()
Next, you'll need a Smithing Forge to craft the Bronze Axe. Here's the full set of ingredients required to craft the Bronze axe. Smithing Forge has plenty of other tools and weapons that you can make at the work station, so building it should be high on your priority list.
Once done, the next job is to find the Oak trees on the map. These trees have wider trunks compared to Ash Trees. Equip the Bronze Axe from your inventory, and swing at the Oak Tree. You'll get Oak Wood after a few chops. Keep chopping to add the maximum amount of Oak Wood to your inventory. Sadly, there's no specific spot as such that you can target to increase the yield of Oak Wood.
How to use Oak Wood in RuneScape Dragonwilds
Oak Wood is no different from how you use Ash Logs. However, Oak wood is far more sturdy. Any structure you build with it will have more hit points, and it will be able to sustain more damage before requiring repairs/reconstruction.
The same applies to any tool you might make with this particular type of wood. Tools made with Ash Logs tend to crumble quite easily, and you must repair them frequently to use them. Tools made with Oak Wood are stronger in comparison.
Some more advanced recipes (tools and weapons) also exclusively use Oak Wood; it is a natural upgraded resource required for everything that requires wooden materials.

The early access build of RuneScape Dragonwilds might already have a few quests for you to try, but the built-in system doesn't explain them in great detail.
As you explore the lands of Ashenfall, you can complete primary and sidequests as you like. While the main quests should be your priority, as they will help you reach the end goal faster, prioritizing the different quests is an important ability.
How to view your quests in RuneScape Dragonwilds
While the game has a Journal system, the quests aren't shown there (unless I have gone blind). However, you can view all your current quests by pressing the M button, which opens up the map. You'll find all the available quests on the left side of the screen.
You can activate and deactivate a sidequest by clicking on it. There's no such option for the main quest, as only one is active at a time (Dragon Slayer is the final one available in the current build at the time of writing).
Any POI related to the quest will be shown on the map. However, you don't have to open the map repeatedly since RuneScape Dragonwilds also uses a marker system. A golden exclamation mark denotes where you need to be to complete a task for the main quest. Similarly, a blue exclamation mark will denote the location of a task related to a sidequest. In case of a sidequest, you'll need to mark it as active so the marker can appear on your screen.
![]()
Which quests should you complete first in RuneScape Dragonwilds?
Your priority should be to complete the main quests and the missions that are part of it. There are several great reasons why you should do that.
Hence, main quests should be the way to go. However, there are some really fun sidequests like Restless Ghosts. You can complete them to get some valuable rewards, such as tomes, which will allow you to level up the skills that you want, which becomes important for your in-game progression.

Best players to use in EA FC 25 Pump You Up Evolution
Here are some of the best cards to consider for this evolution.
These items make the best choices and utilize this evolution well, and you won't even need to combine the cards with other upgrades.
Which cards should you use in the Pump You Up Evolution
The Pump You Up evolution is a rather strange one. The boosts it provides are decent, but I am not a fan of either Press Proven+ or Aerial+ on strikers. However, it's pretty cheap to unlock and improves a selected card pretty decently. If you have a striker card with great playstyle+ but low stats, this is the perfect evolution.

Kuro Games has announced the Wuthering Waves' very first collab event with CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in a livestream today, aiming for a release in conjunction with Netflix's anime adaptation.
Wuwa and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collab announced for 2026
Kuro Games hosted a new livestream today for Wuthering Waves' upcoming 2.3 update, which is also the game's first anniversary patch. During the livestream, the developers announced the surprise collab event with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which is set to launch in 2026. The collaboration is with Netflix anime, and must not be confused with the game.
While the officials did not share many details, they did confirm that Night City characters will step into the world of Solaris, meaning we might see a couple of Edgerunners characters becoming playable in Wuthering Waves later down the line.
Lucy is one of the main characters in the anime and is likely to be a part of the collab. Based on the character popularity, David and Rebecca are also likely to join the Wuwa roster. Since they will be a part of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collab, they will probably be released as 5-star characters. It will be interesting to see how the developers design their kits to fit the world of Solaris.
At the time of writing, the only other information we have about the collaboration event is that it will be launched in 2026. Interestingly, the New Federation is one of the technologically advanced nations in Wuthering Waves. It is the only known nation besides Huanglong and Rinascita, and is expected to be released soon. And since Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also based in a futuristic world, the surprise collab could be launched after the release of New Federation.

No matter if you are looking to explore the swamps or to simply survive the never-welcome deadly rain caused by passing dragons, knowing how to clear the effects of poison is a necessity in RuneScape Dragonwilds.
Luckily, though, you can get your hands on Anti-Poison Potions fairly early, even if producing them efficiently will demand going out of your comfort zone. To help you counter one of the most frustrating status effects in the game, here's how to make Anti-Poison Potions in RuneScape Dragonwilds.
Table of contents
How to make Anti-Poison Potions in RuneScape Dragonwilds
You can make Anti-Poison Potions in RuneScape Dragonwilds by building a Brewing Cauldron and then mixing 1x Harralander, 1x Bittercap Mushroom, and 1x Clay Vessel.
If you have yet to do build the Brewing Cauldro, it will require 16x Ash Logs, 6x Coarse Thread, 10x Rune Essence, and 6x Clay. Like the Spinning Wheel, the station can only be used when under a steady roof.
![]()
To add to that, the Clay Vessel needed for the Anti-Poison Potion can only be made by placing Clay on a Kiln. You can build the station in exchange for the materials below. I was able to get the Kiln blueprint at the moment I acquired Clay for the first time.
After making your vessels, don't forget to also add a few wooden logs to your Kiln to make charcoal. After all, what good is a Brewing Cauldron that you cannot heat up?
Where to find Harralander and Bittercap Mushrooms
You can find Harralander and Bittercap Mushrooms at Whispering Swamp, with both being known to appear in spades on the shores within the area's central portion. While the Harralander can be easily spotted via its Flax-like blue glow, the mushrooms can mask themselves well within the fog, so keep your eyes peeled.
How to get and find Clay in RuneScape Dragonwilds
You can get Clay in RuneScape Dragonwilds by mining Clay Nodes with any type of pickaxe. Even if it is possible to spot them in other regions, you can find many early on and close-by clay mining spots on the easternmost portion of Whispering Swamp. Once in the area, the nodes will be located by the entrance of their Vault and can be easily pinpointed via their textures.
![]()
To make your trips to both areas easier and boost your chances of staying alive when confronted by the many goblins and Putrid Rat packs roaming the swamp, do not go easy on your armor and equip a sturdy shield. As always, having a few Wardstones can make a huge difference by allowing you to maintain an extra layer of protection.
Now that you know how to craft Anti-Poison Potions, why not also take a look at all of the other recipes you can make with your Brewing Cauldron? I also highly recommend that you check out our RuneScape Dragonwilds beginner's guide for some great early-game tips and tricks.

The Crystal Bow from past RuneScape iterations has returned in Dragonwilds, proving to be one of the best weapons. However, to get this item, you'll need to complete a series of objectives or gather an abundance of rare materials. Find out how to get the Crystal Bow in RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
Table of contents
Where to find Crystal Bow in RS: Dragonwilds
You can get the Crystal Bow through the Heartstrings Secondary Quest, requiring you to find various points of interest at the Fractured Plains. Those who complete this mission will earn the Crystal Bow as a reward, along with several intriguing dialogue scenes. You can also craft it yourself by using the following ingredients:
It's not entirely clear if you have to unlock this recipe with the quest first, but you can see if it pops when gathering these ingredients. Whichever method you use, you'll gain a powerful new weapon with x3.45 Arror Damage. Its standout feature is its Shattereshot, which crystallizes the enemy and explodes after a few seconds.
![]()
The Crystal Bow is also relatively sturdy, with a Durability of 1,050. It should last you quite a while, helping take down tons of foes.
How to start and complete the Heartstrings quest in RS: Dragonwilds
If you haven't unlocked the Heartstrings quest yet, I'll show you the steps to get started. First, head to the top of the cliffs in the Fractured Plains, near one of the Vaults.
![]()
To get there, use Windstep and build a staircase that leads up to the large tree at the summit.
![]()
Beside the tree, you'll see a stone structure, which you must interact with to begin the mission. Your task is to follow an elven bard's trail and interact with blue trees for the Crystal Bow.
![]()
While you're in the area, keep an eye out for a hidden chest tucked away nearby. Inside, you'll find a weapon recipe that's definitely worth adding to your arsenal.
All blue tree locations in the Heartstrings quest
Blue Tree #1
![]()
Venture downhill from the quest's starting point, and you'll spot a striking blue tree beside an enemy fortress perched on a small hill. Approach the nearby stone structure and interact with it to uncover a unique audio surprise.
![]()
Blue Tree #2
![]()
The next blue tree will be near an enemy camp, where you'll likely need to deal with a few goblins. I suggest using a Bronze-type weapon, which you can craft with the Fractured Plains' Tin and Copper Ore.
![]()
Blue Tree #3
![]()
Continue down the main path of the Fractured Plains to locate a blue tree next to a broken tower.
![]()
Blue Tree #4
![]()
Go towards the opening of Bloodblight Swamp to find the fourth blue tree for the Heartstrings quests. Unfortunately, two high-level guards may be stationed there, so you'll have to eliminate them first.
![]()
Blue Tree #5
![]()
While at the fourth blue tree location, travel up the hill to reach the cliffside of the Fractured Plains. You'll easily spot a blue tree on the main path.
![]()
Blue Tree #6
![]()
To reach the final blue tree, you'll need to balance your way across a log that's near the fifth tree location. Interact with the Memorial, and select "Sing the bard's song of remembrance" to claim the Crystal Bow in RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
![]()
Although there is a second option to "Step Away," it's crucial to pick the first dialogue point for this new weapon.

Sapphire is a pretty rare gem to mine in RuneScape Dragonwilds, which is why finding it can be a little bit tricky.
Here's everything you need to know about finding and mining the blue gemstone in RuneScape Dragonwilds.
Table of contents
How to get Sapphire in RuneScape Dragonwilds?
At the time of writing, or at least during early access, the best way to get Sapphire in RuneScape Dragonwilds is by mining Gold Ore Nodes. To unlock Sapphires, you also need to unlock the Gem Prospector at Mining level 16.
![]()
Sapphire is the secondary resource you can get from mining these deposits. What you need to do is head over to the Bloodblight Swamp (the bottom right part of Ashenfall) with at least a Bronze Pickaxe. If you have a better Pickaxe, you can mine it faster.
To craft a Bronze Pickaxe, you will need 5x Bronze Bar, 4x Oak Logs, and 2x Leather.
Remember, Bloodblight Swamp is a toxic and poisonous place to explore, which is why you must carry Weak Antipoison Potion and Bittercap Mushroom along with you to counter the effects. It's also one of the last areas to unlock in the game, making the Sapphire a late-game gemstone to find during early access.
The other way to get Sapphire is by using the Rocksplosion spell. This spell conjures a powerful blast to break apart stone boulders and ores and requires 15x Earth Runes and 5x Fire Runes.
What is Sapphire used for in RuneScape Dragonwilds?
Sapphire is one of the main ingredients in crafting the Staff of Light Legendary Weapon in RuneScape Dragonwilds.
Since the game is still in early access and Sapphire is a rare gemstone to find, its uses are limited at the time of writing. If the blue gemstone gains additional uses in future updates, we will add them to this section accordingly.
What other gemstones can you find in RuneScape Dragonwilds?
Apart from Sapphire, you can find three other gemstones:
Jade is mostly found in the northwestern part of the map, specifically in the Stormtouched Highlands, located west of the Fractured Plains. It's also one of the rarer gems to mine in the game, which means you need to have a bit of luck to find them.
Opals, on the other hand, drop when you're mining Tin or Copper ores. These ores are mostly found in the central part of Fractured Plains, but you can come across some towards the eastern borders as well.
Lastly, Red Topaz is also found in the Bloodblight Swamp, similar to Sapphire, and requires a Bronze Pickaxe for mining.
