New soulslike FPS Covenant already channels the best parts of both genres

I love a good genre mashup. There's just something about taking multiple tried and true categories of videogames and throwing them together, potentially creating something unique in the process. Well, this is exactly what the newly revealed Covenant does, by taking the world of Dark Souls and blending it with the fast-paced FPS combat of games like Doom. So if you're looking for something new, this is one to keep a close eye on.

Fortnite OG bots appear to be invading games, and players want them gone

With the permanent return of Fortnite OG, players are calling on Epic Games to remove the apparent influx of bots from the old-school game mode. OG has made a return to Fortnite alongside the brand-new Chapter 6, and while the hit of nostalgia has been going down well for most, player reports have been flooding in that appear to showcase bots playing a prevalent part in matches. Many players are saying this now makes Fortnite OG far too easy, while asking Epic to either rebalance their involvement or remove them entirely.

Storm Ivory Breeze skin

Marvel Rivals is out now, which allows players to pick their favorite superhero or villain and battle it out against others in a beautiful third-person shooter. This game already has a massive roster of characters, but there are some new Marvel Rivals characters that we would like to see in the future.

Currently, there around 33 characters you can play as, which is honestly a pretty impressive number for a new game like this. That said, there are some notably missing characters in the lineup. It is a shame that there aren't more X-Men or villains available. Here is who the staff members here want to see show up next. Some of these because of their potential movesets and others because we just adore these characters so much.

Siliconera Speaks Up: New Marvel Rivals Characters We Need

Please. I need Cyclops to so bad. I just think it would be neat. And that's all I really gotta say about that! -- Kazuma

I agree with Kazuma that this game seriously needs more X-Men and mutant representation. I'd second another X-Men and say I'd like to see Jean Grey, specifically, in her Phoenix form. For me, the Marvel supervillain I'd like to see the most in Marvel Rivals next would be Thanos. Thanos rose to popularity so quickly in the MCU and with some of the more obscure characters in Marvel Rivals, it is a bit surprising the guy who snapped half a galaxy away isn't included. It would be ridiculous and hilarious to see how his moveset would work, especially if the Infinity Gauntlet is involved. -- Cody

Be sure to let us know in the comments below who you'd like to see show up next!

Marvel Rivals is available right now for free for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Review: Maid Cafe on Electric Street Offers a Calmer Life

If you think about a maid cafe, what do you expect? If you've only heard about them from games, something like Nekopara, Steins;Gate, or Akiba's Trip might come to mind. Which might mean a vision of something bright, colorful, poppy, filled with energy, and with employees that are precise idol-types. Maid Cafe on Electric Street is an adventure game that feels like it offers another, more realistic take while also giving people a chance to experience a potentially quieter daily life in Japan.

Maid Cafe on Electric Street begins with an identifiable situation. A young man is working for a company that counts every second he is or isn't on the clock. Taking a few minutes too long in a bathroom or getting to work due to delays, and there are threats about docking pay and serious repercussions. After saying no more, he walks out. However, that also means knowing he loses company housing. While walking the streets of Nipponbashi, looking for a place that is hiring, he happens upon the small Fuwa Fuwa Cafe. It's a maid cafe with only one employee left, Shiro, who almost doesn't serve him out of intimidation. A quick talk reveals it is on the verge of closing, needs a manager, and offers a place to stay above the restaurant, which means an opportunity for a new type of life.

While you are the Fuwa Fuwa Cafe manager in Maid Cafe on Electric Street, you will be serving up customers and engaging in some very light management tasks, and making some decisions, this isn't really a management game. It's more of a visual novel (with multiple endings) that's about getting close to the women working as maids, and enjoying life in Japan. Shiro, Favna, Honoka, and Miyu could be flesh out a little bit more as individuals, but they're pleasant people who I enjoyed meeting and working alongside. You make choices as you work alongside them, go about your day, and spend some time after work.

It's that pairing that does mean there's an element of Maid Cafe on Electric Street that can get a bit tiring. Because there is the light management and daily life element to it, it can get a little tedious as you go through the motions. Developments can be broken up by needing to get back to work at the cafe by picking out what coffee to serve. I was fine with it and enjoyed the experience, but do wish the pace picked up a little.

I also appreciated the effort in Maid Cafe on Electric Street to recreate the experience of exploring Japan. Especially after visiting Japan, walking down shopping streets in areas like Dotonburi and Shinsaibaishi, and seeing locations where there are actual maid cafes. There are actual Japanese business referenced here. And, if you visit gachapon machines, you'll see capsule toys based on real indie games. It's immersive.

Especially since Maid Cafe on Electric Street is an exceptionally pretty pixel-art game. Everything is presented from a side-scrolling sort of perspective, where we're looking at it all as though we're watching a drama presented on a screen. The sprite-work is fantastic, especially when it comes to environments. It is really good at setting a move and building ambiance.

Maid Cafe on Electric Street feels like it is designed to recreate the experience of living in Japan, being in a maid cafe environment, and going through your day-to-day life. However, it's done in a way where it isn't exactly idealized, due to the fact that there are still moments that remind you that real-life isn't always happy and fun, and being at a maid cafe wouldn't be an easy life with everyone excited, energetic, and a perfect idol-type. I appreciated its quieter moments and simplicity, and how it let me gradually work toward a better tomorrow.

Maid Cafe on Electric Street is available for PCs via Steam.

Marvel Rivals codes December 2024 - free Iron Man Model 42 skin

December 8, 2024: We added the latest Marvel Rivals codes to our list and detailed when they're set to expire.

Marvel Rivals is a hit hero shooter featuring a cast of iconic heroes and villains, from Iron Man and Captain America to slightly more obscure characters like Cloak and Dagger. It's most regularly compared to Blizzard's Overwatch thanks to its team-focused tactics and its cast's unique abilities.

Like many free multiplayer games these days, Marvel Rivals includes a code redemption system that lets you unlock freebies such as skins. We fully expect developer NetEase will continue to drop more codes post-launch, and given they only stay active for a set amount of time, we felt it'd be helpful to compile the lot, let you know what they get you, and flag when they're set to become inactive.

Path of Exile 2 dev nerfs multiple skills with

Grinding Gear Games has nerfed some incredibly overpowered Path of Exile 2 skills, but has been doing it for a good reason. At launch there have been multiple PoE 2 skills that have made almost everything else feel redundant, so to make more builds and abilities viable GGG has had to do some nerfs. These skill nerfs won't be the last we see across the early access launch, either, so I'd be prepared to watch your abnormally strong builds crumble sooner rather than later.

Martial arts open world RPG Where Winds Meet launches soon, but not for everyone

Where Winds Meet looks absolutely breathtaking. The Chinese martial arts open-world RPG has a real eye for set pieces, vibrant nature, and the supernatural in a way that immediately caught my attention. Developer Everstone Studio first showed Where Winds Meet at Gamescom 2022, but talk of launch has been largely quiet ever since. Now, we know that Where Winds Meet is set for release incredibly soon, but not for everyone just yet.
