Once Human names and shames cheaters in fair play crackdown

Out of all the free-to-play open-world games to launch in 2024, Once Human is undoubtedly one of the most impressive of the bunch. The survival game has drawn in an enormous player base with its fun co-op offerings and recently launched new PvP modes. However, the game has been plagued with cheaters, something Starry Studio is taking quite seriously.

While I didn't get my hands on it due to time constraints, my demo of Titan Quest 2 courtesy of developer Grimlore Games was a real highlight of the show. In a new developer blog, Grimlore reveals how different content types will work in its upcoming PC game, and it's all about rewarding exploration.

Diablo 4 Mercenaries

Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred is a return to several things for the series. While it visually attempts to ape off of the much beloved and highly acclaimed Diablo 2, and it's subsequent Lord of Destruction expansion, it appears as though Blizzard Entertainment wants to dig into that even further, dredging up mechanics and features from what was considered the high point of the series. And I couldn't help but consider the possibility, or rather, how interesting it would be to see the classes from Diablo 3 appear in Diablo 4 as Mercenaries.

For those unfamiliar with the Mercenary system, in Diablo 2 you could hire mercenaries in major towns to accompany you through various continents to defeat the Prime Evils. These companions were not given individual character arcs, and were instead faces with names and classes attached. They could die, and if you had grown attached to them, either through their utility or constructing a narrative in your head over who they could have been, it could sometimes feel like a loss. New mercenaries could be hired to replace your old one, continuing the cycle of live, die, repeat.

Diablo 3 expanded this system, though some would argue that it was a step back in some ways as players weren't exactly looking for the mercenaries of old to become fully fleshed out characters. Instead of hiring a nameless Sorcerer, instead you could take Cormac the Templar with you, who had a small introductory quest that gave you an idea of what this man was about, and what his ideals were. Diablo 3 had a total of three mercenaries you could recruit and equip, and even tailor their skills.

This is more or less the direction Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred is seeming to go in. There are a total of four companion characters, which Blizzard Entertainment has shared very little information about, that seemingly have their own stories. What those stories are have yet to be seen, or their utility. But they seem to encompass some kind of role that will align with a handful of playstyles and builds. While these new Mercenaries in Diablo 4 do seem neat, a part of me would have loved, or would love, to see the classes of Diablo 3 return in some way.

Like many players I am beating on my chest for a true "tank" class. I want a Templar (that doesn't seem likely given new lore), a Paladin (also unlikely due to lore reasons), or the Crusader (again, probably not possible due to lore). But if I can't play one of these three "holy warriors," I would love to see one join my party. Perhaps a jaded Paladin, or the last Crusader in search of someone to pass his armor and flail to. Or even the Demon Hunter! I loved the Demon Hunter and the lore surrounding the class. Yes, Diablo 3 was a colorful game which was a point of contention for the player base, but the Demon Hunter was a class forged in some of the most painful, traumatic experiences possible. So having a Demon Hunter, perhaps on the cusp of turning into what they hunt, would fall in line with the cynical tone of Diablo 4.

It would also give the team the chance to further flesh out what happened between the events of Diablo 3 and Diablo 4 without it being contained to a series of short stories or novels not everyone can get their hands on. (Or maybe don't want to read in general.) I know I would certainly like to know more. Even getting that sliver of information about how Malthael wiped out a good chunk of humanity in Reaper of Souls had me sucked into the "What ifs" of what transpired between games.

And if we can't play or revisit those classes that some of loved in Diablo 3 for one reason or another, adding them in through other means could, at the very least be interesting.

Diablo IV is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Vessel of Hatred expansion release date is 8, 2024.

Dragon Ball Daima Trailer Features Mini Characters, Zedd Theme Song

The Dragon Ball series has been going strong for many years. After the tragic passing of Akira Toriyama, there is still more content to enjoy in the near future. As we look back at the massive, monumental anime and manga series, it is now time to figure out the best Dragon Ball character of all time.

Some of the Siliconera staff members have come together to give our thoughts on the best Dragon Ball character. We picked our favorite character based on a number of factors. It could be how strong the person is, their design, personality, or even story arc. Regardless, these are our favorites. We are including characters from every series from the original Dragon Ball all the way to GT.

Siliconera Speaks Up: Best Dragon Ball Character Ever

I cannot state more how much I love Krillin. He may not be the strongest warrior of all time, he may not be as important as the story gets universal in Dragon Ball Super, but he's always had a tremendous heart. His friendship with Goku from the earliest days was always funny and sweet and we cannot deny how good his outfits were all throughout the Dragon Ball series to date. -- John

Across all Dragon Ball series and arcs, Gohan will always be my guy. He was a role model growing up, seeing so much of myself in him as a kid myself watching the series. I even saw similarities in our personalities in how we care more about studying and learning than fighting or training. We are both a little nerdy and awkward. While I was saddened when his presence in the series took a step back after the Cell Saga, I am still a huge fan of Goku's first son. -- Cody

Be sure to let us know in the comments below your favorite character!

Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors Origins

The Chinese Three Kingdoms era figure Lu Bu has also been known as a very powerful boss in Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors games, and it will be no exception either in the series' newest entry, Dynasty Warriors Origins. The live stage and stream from the PlayStation booth on the fourth and final day of Tokyo Game Show 2024 featured a challenging fight against the boss character.

The segment in question was based on the TGS 2024 demo build of Dynasty Warriors Origins. While the demo primarily featured the Battle of Sishui Gate stage, it had an extra challenge for players with decent skills. Those who cleared the demo stage with a rank of A or S and had over a minute remaining from the allotted 15 minutes of gameplay could get an extra fight against Lu Bu.

Despite the availability of the extra challenge, there had been no reports of a player who could defeat Lu Bu in the Dynasty Warriors Origins demo before this stage show went live. The PlayStation booth team thus tasked the game's producer Tomohiko Sho to play the demo by himself and try to reach and beat Lu Bu.

The stream's archive is also available to watch right below. Tomohiko Sho's gameplay attempt starts at around 41:10, and the Lu Bu challenge begins at 52:50. The same stream also featured a sneak peek of the Campaign Against Yuan Shu stage earlier at 22:25.

Dynasty Warriors Origins will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC simultaneously worldwide on January 17, 2025.

League of Legends Worlds 2024 anthem video is a banger with an identity crisis

On Tuesday evening I found myself in London's O2 Arena, surrounded by thousands of fans eagerly awaiting the return of rock royalty and nu-metal pioneers, Linkin Park. Having last seen the band in the same venue a decade prior, it was a bittersweet moment for me to say the least - the late, great Chester Bennington sorely missed by everyone I yapped away to as we waited for the re-formed group to make their grand reintroduction.

Just hours before Linkin Park graced the stage with a monstrous performance, the League of Legends Worlds 2024 anthem and accompanying music video were finally unveiled after weeks of teasing on social media. To the surprise of few, it was Heavy is the Crown - the second single from LP's upcoming 'From Zero' album. Having just hopped off the train when it went live, I eagerly found a spot to perch and watch, my initial reaction being one of mild bemusement - is this a Linkin Park video or a LoL Worlds video?

Lost Corner by Kenshi Yonezu Feels Like a Greatest Hits Album

Kenshi Yonezu is one of those musicians that it feels like is everywhere lately. He releases songs on his own. He appear in commercials. He's tapped to create themes for anime series like Chainsaw Man and games like Final Fantasy XVI. So with the new album Lost Corner, which is available both to buy for $13.98 or stream on various services, it feels like every single Kenshi Yonezu song is familiar. As a result, I felt it came across more as a greatest hits album than a typical release, due to the fact that so many of these pieces for specific endeavors is pulled together for it.

Now, because of this, Lost Corner doesn't feel like the type of album created with an overarching theme in mind. There will be commonalities from time to time in terms of overall sound or tone. However, it's mainly coincidental or due to Yonezu's general talent and artistry. When you look at the track listing, even if you aren't immediately familiar with the artist, things are going to jump out at you. There's so much here that is immediately recognizable because of how other creators and companies have come to rely upon the singer to create perfectly suited songs for situations.

For reference, here is the full track listing of songs from the Kenshi Yonezu album Lost Corner:

  1. "RED OUT"
  2. "KICK BACK"
  3. "MARGHERITA + AiNA THE END"
  4. "POP SONG"
  5. "Shinigami"
  6. "Mainichi - Every Day"
  7. "LADY"
  8. "Daydream"
  9. "Sayonara, Mata Itsuka! - Sayonara"
  10. "Stop Look Both Ways"
  11. "LENS FLARE"
  12. "Tsuki wo Miteita - Moongazing"
  13. "M87"
  14. "Pale Blue"
  15. "Garakuta - JUNK"
  16. "YELLOW GHOST"
  17. "POST HUMAN"
  18. "Spinning Globe"
  19. "LOST CORNER"
  20. "OHAYO"

That length stands out, and it should because this is a collection. Lost Corner isn't a typical album release from Kenshi Yonezu. Sony pulled together all sorts of tracks from his projects over the last four years since Stray Sheep debuted in 2020. This does mean that tracks from that album that are also incredible hits, like "Umi no Yuurei," aren't here. But trust me when I say it's absolutely fine. Given Yonezu's career so far, I don't doubt that in 10 or 20 years, we'll see a massive 2-3 CD set that is a full "greatist hits" release.

But what's also shocking is listening to Lost Corner, looking at the track list of songs, and realizing how influential Kenshi Yonezu is on our modern media landscape. I hear it, and I'm immediately remembering the shows, movies, and games that were tied to it. "Tsuki wo Miteita - Moongazing?" That's from Final Fantasy XVI. "Kick Back?" Chainsaw Man. "Spinning Globe?" I heard that a day ago when watching The Boy and the Heron for the first time. "Lady," "Mainichi - Every Day," and "POP SONG?" All of those were in commercials, and at least one of them was popular enough to be notable outside Japan too due to it being a PlayStation ad.

Lost Corner is one of those types of albums where every song on it is amazing, and listening to it makes you appreciate what Kenshi Yonezu is capable of. It's an incredible collection. The nature of it means that everything feels incredible and familiar, with songs pulling you in. In fact, it might even make you feel nostalgic! I know I had that impression when some of the tracks came up.
