Asus' new motherboards could change the graphics card slot forever

Some of Asus's new AMD 800-series motherboards feature a brilliant new graphics card retention system that makes it easier than ever before to remove a graphics card. The new Asus Q-Release Slim feature uses an automatic release system such that there's no need to press a button to unhook your graphics card.

The new Asus feature will be coming to its AMD-based best motherboard contenders in the near future and will make it a breeze to swap out your gaming GPU. While such a swap for actual graphics card upgrades might be relatively rare for most gamers, the need to remove a card for other system upgrades or maintenance - such as cleaning your PC - is a relatively frequent occurrence. This new system could save time and reduce the risk of a damaged graphics card, motherboard, or grazed knuckles.

The best Elden Ring armor sets

What are the best Elden Ring armor sets? If we're being completely honest, there's no point in being good at something unless you look good while you're doing it. The best Elden Ring armor sets can separate you from the rest of the Tarnished out there, providing you with an outfit that can strike fear into the hearts of your enemies.

In this RPG game, upgrading your armaments using Elden Ring smithing stones and Ashes of War is just as important as leveling up your character. There are some armor sets imbued with powerful abilities, though their use largely depends on what type of character you're building. If you've got a fashion-conscious Tarnished, Elden Ring makes it difficult to find armor that is both protective and stylish, but it certainly can be done if you know where to look.

I shouldn't be too surprised really. If a park sim based on Tim Burton's 1996 B-Movie homage Mars Attacks wasn't on my bingo card, it's because I've recently binned it and replaced it with a bobble head that simply nods in amused acceptance at whatever videogames decide to do next. Still, I was mildly bemused to learn that Mars Attracts, coming sometime next year, is the film's first licensed game. But then I realised that I'd never thought to check before, which might go some way to explaining the lack of them. Do you reckon they did the pun then worked backwards from there? The song parody, shared on McDonald's Japan's official Twitter, credits IOSYS and Touhou Project's ZUN for their collaboration. Miko, known for her work on Touhou Project songs, performs the parody. The commercial's style combines the original Marisa Stole The Precious Thing aesthetics with McDonald's imagery, altering the lyrics to focus on the Samurai Mac Triple Thick Beef Burger. This mirrors previous campaigns and showcases a continued effort by McDonald's Japan to draw inspiration from Japanese pop culture.

In related news, Touhou Project recently collaborated with Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, introducing three tracks arranged by beatMARIO in May 2024. Why Won't HoYoVerse Admit the Genshin Impact Switch Port Isn't Happening?

HoYoVerse announced the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact in January 2020. Yes, that's over four years ago. That version hasn't come up again since, even as PS5 and Xbox Series X versions showed up. We've all basically accepted that it isn't happening, at least for this version of the console, so why won't HoYoVerse just admit it is canceled or delayed?

I feel like HoYoVerse has had multiple opportunities to come out and say, "Hey, the Switch version of Genshin Impact isn't going as planned." It could have brought it up when the OLED model launched in October 2021. There could have been a boilerplate statement. The company could have cited a desire to ensure quality and performance. It could have noted that it would be waiting until the next generation Nintendo console to bring Genshin Impact, and perhaps even other games, to the system. I feel it would have been a great opportunity, since we would all know that's the most powerful standard Switch on the market.

Though also, going ahead and admitting the Switch port of Genshin Impact is delayed around the PS5 launch would have been smart too. It's a similar time period. HoYoVerse could also included something about targeting higher system requirements going forward. Especially since we also know the PS4 version won't look as good after the 5.0 update. Again, admitting it's about quality and performance would be wise.

genshin impact switch
Image via HoYoVerse

Doing so after that official website issue in March 2024 might have been a good call too! As a reminder, it ended up being temporarily offline earlier this year. HoYoVerse could have admitted it was due to changing it to note Genshin Impact is coming to a future Nintendo platform other than the Switch! Nintendo's even acknowledged at this point that it's been working on a new system. Just go ahead and be honest with us, even though it might be a bit weird.

Instead, we're in the uncomfortable place of celebrating the Xbox Series X version of Genshin Impact when one announced ahead of the game's September 2020 debut isn't here. Now that we're in 2024 and approaching the final years of the Switch, it seems pointless to hide it anymore. Just confirm what everyone suspects. Genshin Impact isn't coming to the Switch as planned, but maybe we'll see it on another Nintendo system somewhere down the line. Delays happen all the time, after all. And in the case of an ongoing game that will eventually get various updates, you have to expect system demands will increase over time.

Genshin Impact is available on the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Xbox Series X version arrives on November 10, 2024.

Good Smile Company announced the return of the popular Nendoroid figure of Pyramid Head, also known as Red Pyramid Thing, from Silent Hill 2. Pre-orders for the figure are now open and will remain available until September 25, 2024. The Nendoroid is priced at ¥6,900 in the Japanese and is expected to ship in January 2025, while the US store is selling it for $41.99 and targeting a Q2 2025 release window.

The Nendoroid Red Pyramid Thing is a fully articulated figure that stands approximately 100mm tall. It comes with several optional parts, including the iconic Great Knife, allowing for various poses. The figure is sculpted by artist Shichibee from Matsuda Model and produced in cooperation with Nendoron.

This rerelease of the Pyramid Head Nendoroid coincides with the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. Set to release on the PS5 and PC on October 8, 2024, that version of the game will also see the return of key creatives, including the original creature designer and composer. However, Bloober is the primary developer behind it this time, rather than Konami direct.

Theresa Apocalypse Schicksal's Imperative Battlesuit Heads to Honkai Impact 3rd

HoYoVerse announced Theresa Apocalypse will get a new Battlesuit called Schicksal's Imperative in Honkai Impact 3rd 7.7. This will be an S-rank unit that we'll see on the next banner.

We haven't seen any gameplay footage of Teresa's newest Battlesuit yet. However, we have seen another video starring her. HoYoVerse shared a "Schicksal Work Guide Introduction" for an in-game activity, and it was hosted by this version of her. The chibi model featured that outfit, which includes an eye mask positioned on her hood.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYEoFCcYPZs

We do know details about how the Theresa Apocalypse Schicksal's Imperative Battlesuit will work in Honkai Impact 3rd. This version uses the Chained Blades type of weapon. She will be a Quantum unit who deals Lightning damage with her attacks. She also will be compatible with the new Astral Ring system from Part 2, and her Specialization is called World Star.

The announcement did go over some elements of her outfit. "Eyes jaded by work" are one feature and are designed to show how exhausted she is as the current Schicksal Overseer. Her two HOMU puppets will appear alongside this version of the character. She also has the eye mask to help her sleep and keep her from seeing how much work she has left to do.

There have been multiple Battlesuits for Theresa Apocalypse in Honkai Impact 3rd. For example, in 2023 her Lunar Vow: Crimson Love one appeared. This will mark her eighth one in the game.

Honkai Impact 3rd is available for PCs and mobile devices, and the 7.7 update is on the way.

Final Fantasy XVI PC Demo Patch Fixes Graphics Issues

When the Final Fantasy XVI PC demo launched on Steam and Epic Games Store, it also included a number of issues, and now a patch is here to fix them. Ten major problems are remedied in the update, with some of the biggest ones tied enemy appearances and issues with graphics. However, Square Enix noted this doesn't address the stuttering problems, which will be fixed in a later update.

Many of the issues involve the way Final Fantasy XVI looks on a PC, with graphics and appearances affected by a number of elements. The 1.01 patch affected Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) to keep it from looking blurry. Previously, FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) rendering also wasn't working as intended, making the game look blurry. Other loading and tearing issues will be resolved. Also, after the update you can change the Dynamic Resolution in the options menu.

Here are the patch notes for the Final Fantasy XVI demo 1.01 update:

"Improvements have been made to DLSS, FSR, and XeSS quality.
This should help to alleviate various graphical issues such as blurring (DLSS/XeSS) and pixelation (FSR).

The following issues have also been addressed:

  • Dynamic Resolution being locked on the lowest setting.
  • Enemies not appearing properly in certain battle content.
  • Graphics not displaying properly on certain stages.
  • Graphical tearing in certain instances when using borderless screen mode.
  • SFX not playing properly under certain conditions.
  • UI not displaying properly under certain conditions.
  • Screen resolution changing under certain conditions.
  • Rare instances of GPU crashes.
  • Other minor issues."

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PlayStation 5, the Epic Games Store and Steam PC release date is set for September 17, 2024, and a demo is available for all platforms.

Genshin Impact Mualani Trailer and Skill Showcase Makes a Splash

Mualani will be one of the first new Natlan five-star characters in Genshin Impact, and now there's a trailer and Skill showcase overview for her. HoYoVerse also offered a better look at her signature Surf's Up catalyst, which also debuts alongside her in the 5.0 update.

HoYoVerse first shared Mualani's Skills. Her Cooling Treatment Normal Attack can deal up to three hits normally, but can deal AOE damage with a Pufferball if charged. Her Surfshark Wavebreaker Elemental Skill starts her surfing, giving her Wave Momentum stacks and affects her Normal Attacks. She'll remain riding for a limited time. Her Elemental Burst is called Boomsharka-laka. That sends her homing shark missile out to deal AOE damage to a group of enemies.

Here's the "Mualani: Kindness Begets Friendship" Genshin Impact trailer. It shows how her unorthodox approach to working as a guide and street smarts can help her turn a potential enemy into an ally.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNLghVMba_o

As for the Surf's Up catalyst, it is a five-star weapon with a base attack of 542 at level 90. It also has critical damage as an additional stat at 88.2%. The bonus tied to it is called Aqua Remembrance. The official HoYoVerse description reads, "Max HP increased by 20%. Once every 15s, for 14s after using an Elemental Skill: Gain 4 Scorching Summer stacks. Each stack increases Normal Attack DMG by 12%. For the duraction of the effect, once every 1.5s, lose 1 stack after a Normal Attack hits an opponent; once every 1.5s, gain 1 stack after triggering a Vaporize reaction on an opponent. Max 4 Scorching Summer stacks."

Genshin Impact is available on the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. The 5.0 update arrives on August 28, 2024. The Xbox Series X version arrives on November 10, 2024.

One Piece Live-Action Actor for Nefertari Cobra Revealed

Netflix hasn't revealed Nefertari Vivi for the One Piece live-action adaptation yet, but it has shared the actor for her father Nefertari Cobra on social media. He'll be played by Sendhil Ramamurthy.

As a reminder, King Cobra rules the Arabasta Kingdom, which is a key location in the Arabasta Saga of the One Piece story. The end of the first season of the live-action adaptation closed things out with elements from the Arlong Park Arc and Nami joining the crew permanently. The second season of the show will feature Baroque Works and the debut of characters like Chopper and Miss All Sunday.

Here's the official announcement from social media. It shows a picture of Sendhil Ramamurthy alongside Nefertari Cobra, so people can compare.

https://twitter.com/netflix/status/1826605249093927056

Most recently, Ramamurthy provided the voice of characters in some animated series like The Legend of Vox Machina and DC Super Hero Girls. He also played Bloodwork in The Flash and Mohinder Suresh in Heroes.

There's still one more day left for Netflix's three days of One Piece live-action actor reveals. The Eiichiro Oda tease did mention Chopper, Miss All Sunday, and Vivi, and we also don't know who plays Crocodile, so we could learn who will play them.

The first season of the One Piece live-action adaptation is now on Netflix, and season 2 is in production. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Viz Media handles the manga outside Japan.

Macross Do You Remember Love Ultra HD Blu-ray will include English subtitles

The first Macross movie will have a new release that includes English subtitles, even though it will still be only formally available in Japan. Bigwest has revealed that it will release the Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? 4K Remaster set on January 29, 2025. The regular set will be available at ¥9,900 (~$67.75).

The set will contain two discs with the same general content. One of them will be an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with a 16:9 2160p resolution, and the other will be a regular Blu-ray disc with a 4:3 1080p resolution. The English subtitles for Macross: Do You Remember Love? will only be available on the Ultra HD version, as the regular Blu-ray disc will only contain Japanese subtitles.

As a reminder, when Bigwest and Harmony Gold signed a historic deal that allowed the worldwide releases of Macross titles in 2021, it did not include the first Macross TV anime and its movie adaptation, Do You Remember Love?, which the latter had localized as Robotech. That causes subsequent releases like the Macross -Shooting Insight- video game and Disney+ title lineup to omit content related to those titles from global releases and make them exclusive to Japan.

Bigwest has also provided a link to the Macross Spirit Fan Club webpage where people can place a pre-order for the Remaster set. However, the website only supports domestic shipping inside Japan. That means people who reside outside the country will have to find another way to obtain the set.

The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? 4K Remaster set will be available on January 29, 2025.

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp going offline in November 2024

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will have its most drastic change in late November 2024. Nintendo has announced that it will end its services for the free-to-play online version on November 28, 2024, at 3 PM UTC / 11 AM ET. The company added that it will release a new flat-fee offline version of the Animal Crossing title around the same time.

Nintendo originally released Pocket Camp for Android and iOS devices in late November 2017. That means the mobile game will pass its seventh anniversary on a rather somber note. However, existing players do not have to worry about their play data. Players will be able to transfer their data to the offline version, provided they have linked it to a Nintendo Account.

The paid offline version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will retain most of the app's gameplay features. However, it will not have features that require online connections and purchases, such as gifts, Market Boxes, Leaf Tickets, and visits to other players' campsites.

The original free-to-play online version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is available until November 28, 2024. Nintendo will release a single-purchase offline version of the iOS and Android mobile game to replace the former. The company will publish more details about the latter in October 2024.
