PCGamesN Saturday, January 25, 2025 12:43 PM Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a truly unforgettable game. Between the colorful cast of characters and emotionally shattering story beats, it's an RPG I find myself appreciating more the second time around. This sentiment is echoed by a lot of the new Steam players as well, with Rebirth already eclipsing Remake's concurrent player counts mere days into its PC launch. If these numbers keep climbing, by the time we reach the third installment in the FF7 remake project, the PC release will be huge. If you've missed out on anything from their catalog, or have any sitting on your Steam wishlist, a spectacular new sale is the perfect chance to grab one or more of them at a low price. PCGamesN Saturday, January 25, 2025 11:40 AM Epic Games has given Fortnite Island creators an ultimatum to remove misleading content from their work, as the developer cracks down on how islands are advertized to players. An updated rule has been added to the Fortnite Island creator program that expressly forbids anyone making an experience from advertising it using terms that promise players specific rewards when the island itself doesn't offer them. Creators have been given a short grace period by Epic before "escalating penalties" come into effect. MORE FROM PCGAMESN: Fortnite map, Fortnite skins, Fortnite weapons |
PCGamesN Saturday, January 25, 2025 11:00 AM Nvidia didn't just unveil its powerful, next-gen graphics card at CES month – it also showed off the first ever Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 gaming PC build. This incredibly powerful PC was a one-off build to celebrate the RTX 5090 and show off its potential, showcased in an incredibly unusual (and very expensive) PC case. This Nvidia gaming PC is truly one-of-a-kind. The RTX 5090, now the best graphics card as far as performance is concerned, is the obvious center piece, but it's almost upstaged by the $7,100 InWin Infinite PC case it sits in. Gorgeously lit up with green RGB LEDs, this gaming powerhouse also uses a top-tier AMD gaming CPU, giving it specs that no other gaming PC on the market can currently match. |

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is one of the best games of 2024, just like the original Remake. As Square Enix looks ahead, it is likely the developer is focusing on the third and final game in the trilogy. This does mean DLC is unlikely to happen. This is fine, though, as I would prefer to see a spin-off of FFVII Rebirth rather than DLC.
With the original Final Fantasy VII Remake, we got the Intergrade version soon after. This not only brought the JRPG to PS5, but included the special Yuffie-themed DLC storyline. It was great and a fun little adventure to tie us over until the next release. We already know Rebirth is unlikely to get its own version of this, which is a shame since there is so much potential with a character like Vincent Valentine.
That said, I honestly don't think it is best for DLC right now anyways. While a different team could work on DLC, it would likely take away still from the core development of the third game in the trilogy. However, I think a new remaster or spin-off game would be less likely to take away from key development, as we saw with Crisis Core.
That is why it is my hope that we get another spin-off or remaster to tie us over until the third game releases. The easiest guess would be Dirge of Cerberus. This would make sense since it would allow players to check out Vincent Valentine in action, though its placement as a sequel would make it a bit awkward.
In addition, there are some key gameplay changes that would have to happen in order to make Dirge of Cerberus work on modern platforms. There is little that can be done for the level design outside of a full-on remake, but there are changes that can be made to the AI and gunplay. Having Vincent's action mechanics work more smoothly would go a long way. In addition, making enemies react smarter and faster would help the difficulty feel better.
It would also be nice to see the general graphical improvements. The original third-person shooter RPG looked great on PS2. With some smoothing out of the blurriness and up-res of some textures, it could look solid today.
Another great option to replace DLC would be to make a remake of Before Crisis. This spin-off game tells the story of several key Turk members. It was a mobile game in the past, so it would need a massive overhaul. I could see this work as a smaller release. The one knock against this is its future inclusion in Ever Crisis.
However, why not bring Ever Crisis to more platforms then? The free-to-play gacha take on the original FFVII is a bit odd. However, it plays and looks better than you might expect. The mission structure isn't my favorite, but I like the battles and exploration. Furthermore, the mobile game expands upon the world greatly, especially regarding Sephiroth.
It is a shame Ever Crisis is only available on Android and iOS at this time. I would like to see it come to other platforms, such as Switch, PC, and PS5. This would be a great way to prime players for the third and final game in the Remake trilogy. You could find out more about key characters, see the events of the original, and recap everything as a whole.
Since I don't expect the sequel to FFVII Rebirth to release until 2027 at the earliest, that is a lot of time Square Enix has to fill. A brand new spin-off, remaster, or port of an existing game would be a great way to keep fans engaged with this world and characters. Whether it's Dirge of Cerberus or a port of Ever Crisis, one of these needs to happen.
FFVII Rebirth is available right now for PS5. It also releases for PC on January 23, 2025.

HAL Laboratory, the studio behind games like the Kirby series, is hiring for multiple positions. An online selection process will take place over Zoom on February 7 and 8, 2025. [Thanks, PR Times!]
In order to apply for the online selection process, you can do so from this lnk here. Applicants have until February 5, 2025 to hand in their information. The online selection will run from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and anyone can try for the positions so long as they meet the basic requirements.
While the site does not mention Japanese as an essential skill, you will likely need to know how to communicate with the language to work there. As well, it did not mention that overseas applicants can't apply. However, the actual application form is understandably tailored for a Japanese resident. So those in countries outside of it may have trouble getting it to accept some discrepancies in how phone numbers and such work.
Jobs that HAl Laboratory are hiring for right now include:
HAL Laboratory was founded in 1980, and became a second-party developer with Nintendo in 1984. Almost all of its games are exclusive for Nintendo consoles (or older machines like the Commodore 64). Aside from its work on the Kirby franchise, HAL Laboratory also worked on Super Smash Bros., Pokemon Snap (1999), and EarthBound.
The HAL Laboratory online hiring selection will take place on February 7 and 8, 2025. You have until February 5, 2025 to hand in your applications.

The Xenoblade Chronicles series always featured plenty of exploration. So many quests take you on journeys to far-fledged corners of the map. From wandering across the severed arm of a mechanical titan or the ruins and depths of a skyscraper-filled city overgrown by a deep jungle, Monolith Soft asks you to wander, see strange things just out of reach, and wonder how to get there. Xenoblade Chronicles X featured Skells, pilotable mechs that act as a second layer for each playable character, and they help both to enhance combat and open up exploration.
To start, Xenoblade Chronicles X opens with your avatar being very small and fragile. You barely survive the crash of the White Whale shop. The things you'll notice first when wandering around Mira is how big the creatures are, how many things are out of reach, and how outmatched you are in a fight against many of the threats. Big animals and Ganglion scouts can kill you in very few hits. As Xenoblade tradition dictates, a gigantic, monkey-shaped, level 81 enemy named Hayreddin the Territorial is in the very first area you can access. So many areas are set up like this. You get exposed to dangerous environments or roadblocks you can just barely get past with your normal movement and strength or cant even traverse at all.
That's where the Skells come in.
The Skells are dangled in front of you from the moment you set foot in New LA. The units help with construction, with riding through the streets, and when standing guard across the town. However, you need to earn the license to use one. After completing chapter 6 of the main story, you can show your mastery of the things a member of the BLADE organization needs to know. Stepping into your first Skell is a major turning point that opens up the world. You can use the Skell's boosters to go faster and farther than ever before, jumping over things in its vehicle or mech state. It opens up a new layer to combat. In previous Xenoblade games, overcoming obstacles either required finding the right wall to climb, tunnel to follow, or field skill to unlock. Skells instead are both like getting a new party member as well as a mount that can carry you to places where, even if the mech might not be fully outfitted yet, your characters' skills might be able to keep you safe.
That's all before flight is unlocked. Later in the story, a flight unit for the Skells is developed. If you're willing to brave some very high level creatures lurking in these out of reach areas, you can go anywhere. All the massive hanging structures and geographical formations that were out of reach are now within your grasp. You can find new, important resources and see beautiful sights. You can finally explore places that contain great gear for your characters and the Skells. In previous games, you would be hopping from fast travel point to fast travel point, walking to try and find the one location you missed or the clearest path. The ability fly flight eliminates that frustration completely.
This continues into combat, as there are some enemies and rare bosses that can only be fought inside a flying Skell. In addition, the upgrades mean enemies that once terrorized you on foot now may now be an even match. New strategic options open up with super weapons. Do you focus on the basic rifles and missiles or use a railgun the size of a building strapped to your back? Do you get up close and personal with a rocket-powered drill spear or keep the enemy stunned with a shock field emitter? Both exploration and combat are far more layered with Skells than without. This helps keep every combat encounter fresh since you experiment with different loadouts for both your Skells and characters.
The Skells are one of Xenoblade Chronicles X's most important assets. They are a prime example of Monolith Soft's desire to put exploration and adventure at the forefront of the game. It not only offered options to mix and match ranged and melee weapons on foot, but the Skells crack it and the exploration open even further. With Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on the horizon, I'm most excited to take flight once again to uncharted areas to experience whatever dangers and wonders they hold.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition releases for the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025
