October 5, 2022, marks the 20th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. Today, 20 years to the day after the anime's first episode aired in Japan, Sunrise has updated the title's official site with a new look. It also announced plans to release an anniversary book set and a radio show featuring one of the series' characters, Yzak Joule. Yzak Joule is one of the ZAFT soldiers who hijacked the Gundam-type Mobile Suits at Heliopolis during the show's starting segments. The character's Japanese voice actor, Tomokazu Seki, will host the radio show. He will discuss the 20-year-old show with other guests and read letters sent by fans. In addition, Sunrise will release an official book set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gundam SEED. The set will contain the "Freedom" fan book, with over 250 pages of illustrations, and the "Justice" setting material book, with over 100 pages of background descriptions and staff commentaries. Pre-orders will open in Japan around November 2022 with a price tag of 11,000 yen (~$76). Sunrise will ship the finished books in April 2023. In May 2021, Sunrise announced multiple projects related to Gundam SEED ahead of its 20th anniversary. The projects range from a video game and a feature film to a new manga series and a life-size statue of the Freedom Gundam in Shanghai, China. The new manga series, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Eclipse, is available to follow in English on the GundamInfo YouTube channel. The Poke Ball-throwing arcade game Pokemon Mega Get will have a new cabinet with quality-of-life improvements. Bandai Namco has revealed a new Nagetore (Throw [and] Take) Box cabinet that it will formally release in October 2022. Pokemon Mega Get is an arcade game where players generally throw Poke Balls toward the screen. Numerous Pokemon will appear on the screen, and the player will have to throw the balls accurately to catch them. A Legendary Pokemon will appear after the player has successfully caught 100 regular Pokemon. Early menu navigations like stage selection will also require the player to throw a ball toward their choice. The first iteration of Mega Get appeared in 2016, with the roster covering up to the sixth-generation Kalos region. Bandai Namco has since updated the game to add newer Pokemon from the seventh-generation Alola and eighth-generation Galar regions. The new Nagetore Box cabinet will bring many quality-of-life improvements to the arcade game. The box will come with a bench so that players can enjoy the game while sitting. It will also have a larger screen, increasing from 32 to 43 inches. The more closed environment will make the balls less likely to stray far away. Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds may be getting an updated edition for current-generation consoles and PC. Taiwan's Entertainment Software Rating Information site classified a new version of the game, apparently titled The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition. "Spacer's Choice" refers to a brand owned by one of the ten corporations that own and rule the Halcyon colony, the setting of The Outer Worlds. The rating, associated with Take-Two Asia, lists The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Alongside it is the original release, dated October 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Both editions are rated "R" for Violence, Drugs, and Inappropriate Language. Take-Two itself has not officially announced or confirmed the existence of the update. If true, this edition could feature graphical or performance updates or add the existing DLC content to the package. The Outer Worlds is an open-world RPG in the vein of Fallout: New Vegas. It takes place in Halcyon, a star system founded as a completely company-owned planetary colony. Players control a colonist newly awakened after spending too many years in cold sleep and explore a colony wracked by generations of unchecked corporate exploitation. They can work for multiple factions and meet companions as they work to solve the mystery behind a series of crises threatening Halcyon's future. EA Motive revealed the first gameplay trailer from its in-development remake of Dead Space on October 4, 2022. As an update of the 2008 original, it's simply called Dead Space and is intended to relaunch the franchise. The last Dead Space title released was Dead Space 3, in 2013. The remake will launch on January 27, 2023 for PC and current-generation consoles. As before, the game takes place aboard the USG Ishimura, a corporate-owned mining vessel in orbit over a mysterious planet. The Ishimura sent out a distress call after being overrun by mysterious, deadly creatures known as Necromorphs. Isaac Clarke, the protagonist, is part of the repair crew sent to investigate and assist. The gameplay is also similar, with an emphasis on third-person horror action. The Necromorphs are best dealt with by severing their limbs, and Isaac's kit of repurposed engineering tools serves the purpose nicely. Isaac's plasma cutter, RIG suit (with its glowing spine standing in for a health meter), and suit powers, such as Kinesis and Stasis, are all showcased. For comparison, you can check out a launch trailer from the original at this link. Outside of the graphical improvements, one key difference between the Dead Space remake and the original is in the voice acting. In the original, Isaac was largely silent. Now, dialog lines show him interacting over the radio with his companions and people aboard the ship. In an interview, Producer Philippe Ducharme and Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola said that the storytelling in the remake would be adjusted to better fit the larger universe that spun out of the first game. For example, some characters that only appeared in audio logs before would have some screen time, and others would have a bit more background and agency in the story. For those wanting physical goods, Limited Run Games announced a Collector's Edition package, available for pre-order as of press time. The package includes art prints, a pin, a patch, a metal replica of the Marker, a soundtrack CD, and a wearable helmet with a light-up visor based on Isaac's RIG helmet. Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden is the third entry of Square Enix's Voice of Cards series, released less than a year after the previous title, The Forsaken Maiden. It is a JRPG that feels like a tabletop RPG (TTRPG) due to its usage of cards for the entire game. As one may expect from a Yoko Taro work, the story is hauntingly beautiful, and occasionally upsetting. It is nothing as sad as NieR Automata or unsettling as Drakengard, thankfully. Its short length definitely left me wanting more, which is in stark contrast to how I wanted things to stop in the two aforementioned games. Despite The Beasts of Burden's uniquely minimalist aesthetic when it comes to the world's environment, I never felt bored. This is due to the narration throughout. Yui Ishikawa is a fantastic game master with a soothing cadence. The game also employs certain tactics to make it feel like a real TTRPG. For example, Ishikawa sometimes says a line twice, as if she stuttered and had to repeat herself. I do not know if these were on a script, or are genuine bloopers. But it gives the game an organic RPG feel that is so different from other games that it remained charming throughout. The Beasts of Burden does feel rather sluggish at times. This is because each step you take has two animations. Firstly, your piece has to move from card to card. Secondly, cards around you need to flip in order to reveal the map. There is also a slight lag when you access or exit the menu, as well as when you open up your collection. While each delay only lasts a second, it really starts to accumulate. This can make playing Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden…well, a minor burden. The lag may be because I played it on the Nintendo Switch. But I'm sure other platforms experience the same issue in regards to map animations. [gallery ids="936651,936652,936653" link="file"] Incidentally, while the game warns that "weird things" may happen when you play the game at a faster speed, I never encountered any problems. When I played on normal speed, I still experienced all the minor lag issues I mentioned earlier. In fact, I changed the game speed because I got impatient. So I recommend playing the game at the highest speed setting, since the Switch can definitely handle it. Now, let's talk briefly about what the game is about. The plot of Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden centers on Al'e. She is a subterran girl who serves as a guard for her underground village. On her birthday, monsters attack and a mysterious boy named L'gol rescues her. After some mishaps, the two set off together to search for the stars. This is a more difficult journey than it sounds because they live in a land where the sun never sets. Despite such an engaging and poetic set-up, most of the story focuses on the conflict between humans and monsters. And if you are a veteran of Yoko Taro games, you can likely predict a lot of the twists in such a narrative. [gallery columns="4" link="file" ids="936657,936654,936656,936655"] The Beasts of Burden feels like an entry-level Yoko Taro game that you would use to introduce him to your friends. It is short and easy, though still challenging enough that you have to keep your wits about you. The characters are all surprisingly sweet despite their pasts and circumstances. They were great motivators. Even when I started to get bored, I pushed on because I wanted to see L'gol be cute. Some of the flipside stories leave a bad aftertaste in your mouth. But overall, the plot of the game is surprisingly "hopeful." It's a great game for new players to see if Yoko Taro's unique worldview suits them. Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. This playtest is based on a Nintendo Switch version code provided by the publisher. According to an upcoming interview to be published in Famitsu and spotted by Japanese tipster ryokutya2089, Master Detective Archives: Rain Code scenario writer Kazutaka Kodaka reveals that the game's map will be larger than the 23 wards of Tokyo combined. Additionally, Kodaka also spoke briefly about the game's content, including subquests and other events. Notably, Kodaka also states that there is a "big surprise" in store, but that it is still in development. [Thanks, ryokutya!] In an interview with Famitsu Weekly, Kodaka states that the area in which the game takes place is "larger than the 23 wards of Tokyo". Known as Kanai Ward, players will explore this 3D world during their investigations as trainee detective Yuma. Furthermore, he states that there will be plenty of things for players to do, including meet-up events with other detectives, subquests, and more. The map's sheer scale may explain why Rain Code has been in development for over six years. To this, Kodaka clarifies that the developers have been working "non-stop" during that time period. He also notes that one of the key issues in the investigative genre was the repetitiveness of investigation methods. As such, Kodaka states that they designed the game so that each case should allow players to enjoy a different way of investigation. To top it off, Kodaka goes on to note that the studio is also planning a "big surprise" Kodaka has previously worked as a writer on the Danganronpa series, as well as 2020's World's End Club. Rolling on Fate/Grand Order's gacha is about to get more expensive in some countries. In an update on the official website and in-game news, Aniplex announced that due to an Apple-mandated change in the App Store's Price Tier system, the prices of Saint Quartz premium currency will rise in various countries and regions. The FGO Saint Quartz price changes go into effect alongside scheduled maintenance on October 5, 2022, at 8:00 AM PT (11:00 AM ET). Saint Quartz is mainly used to roll on FGO's gacha banners. Players can usually earn a small amount of Saint Quartz from daily activities and logins The countries affected by the App Store Price Tier changes are Chile, Poland, Sweden, and all countries that use the Euro. Countries that buy Saint Quartz in US dollars will be unaffected. The FGO Saint Quartz price changes for each country are detailed in the news post, but the bumps range from about 15-20% for each package of Saint Quartz. The FGO Saint Quartz price changes affect both Android and iOS versions of Fate/Grand Order, though it's an Apple-prompted update that triggered the price bump. Apple uses a Price Tier system for developers setting prices for in-app purchases. The tiers make for a simpler way to set global pricing for an app. However, at the moment, the U.S. dollar is strengthening relative to many foreign currencies (in this case, the Polish złoty, Swedish krona, Chilean peso, and the Eurozone nations). Prices therefore would need to increase to preserve Aniplex's returns for purchases of Saint Quartz in some countries. Apple last prompted a Price Tier system change in January 2022, though this did not trigger a corresponding hike in FGO's pricing. Fate/Grand Order is readily available on iOS and Android. The trailer takes us on a tour of a monster hunt. We start off in luscious green lands with a majestic mountain village in the distance. The next installment in Sega's signature platforming franchise releases on November 8, and there have been some concerns over how demanding it would be to run. The recommended specs are a Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel equivalent, 12 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or equivalent, and 30 GB of available storage space. Specs at that level will manage 60 fps on high settings at 1080p resolution. However, those willing to play at 30 fps at 720p will be able to run Sonic Frontiers on much weaker hardware.
