Apex Legends battle pass U-turn fails to stop Steam review bombing

The last time Apex Legends popped up in the news it was related to an attempt to rework the game's battle pass system. Unfortunately, that backfired with fans review bombing the game on Steam as a consequence of the unpopular changes. Now, we're in the hitherto-unforeseen area of a second backfiring event, with a U-turn on the battle pass update being met not with relief but further negative reviews.

If effective, AFMF 2 could go some way to making AMD's latest best graphics card contenders, such as the RX 7800 XT, even more tempting propositions, as it unlocks masses of extra performance across far more games than are currently supported by competing technologies.

Once upon a time at Tennocon 2023, I bonded with Warframe's creative director, Rebecca Ford, over being dumped by Astarion. Yet, with Warframe 1999, Digital Extremes has introduced its own take on Baldur's Gate 3's romance system, and I suspect that some dreams might be shattered. Emotionally perplexed, reeling from this discovery, I asked Ford how she felt about potentially playing heartbreaker after having the Pale Elf rip out her heart and stomp on it.

I missed this rare Herman Miller gaming sale, but you don't have to

PC gamers, the Herman Miller gaming sale is one you absolutely won't want to miss, especially if - like me - you've been looking for the perfect gaming chair. Herman Miller makes some of the most premium chairs and desks on the market, and its current summer sale offers 20% off the recommended price on its gaming chairs, and sit-to-stand desks, with free delivery on everything. Herman Miller rarely offers deals like this, and I wish I'd seen this sale before taking the plunge. It ends today, so I wouldn't recommend waiting.

One of the best bargains is the refreshed version of the Vantum Gaming Chair that launched earlier this year. It's one of the best gaming chairs I've ever tried. I'd even go as far as to say I'm a little obsessed with it, thanks to its wonderfully bright and bold colorways - a far cry from the gray and black options of the past, or tacky, themed designs often aimed at gamers.

Available in Nightfall Blue, Mystic Purple, Helio Yellow, and Abyss Green, the new and improved Vantum chair features an updated headrest for added comfort, allowing it to work just as well as one of the best office chairs. But what else is on sale? Well, the whole of the Herman Miller gaming range. I've picked out some of my favorites below.

This mini gaming PC somehow has a desktop Nvidia RTX 4070 inside it

A few months ago Lenovo unveiled its latest mini PC, the Lenovo ThinkCenter Neo Ultra, and it looked to be an impressively small, very sleek-looking, and powerful PC. However, it topped out at housing an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060, which is ok for gaming but not super powerful. Now, a new twist on that design has been spotted that houses a desktop RTX 4070 GPU and we need it in our lives.

Called, the Lenovo Yoga Portal, the new variant has been spotted on a Chinese retailer and it packs some seriously best gaming PC-level specs for a mini rig. Not only does it house a desktop-grade Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, but it also squeezes a desktop Intel Core i7 14700 CPU into its truly tiny case. With a footprint of roughly 200mm square (~8-inch) and a height of just 108mm (~4-inch), it's amazingly small for a machine with this much power.

After 22 years, legendary strategy game Industry Giant is finally back

You look around today, with Manor Lords, Cities Skylines 2, and the upcoming Civilization 7, and you can't help but appreciate the rich history of the strategy game. First-person shooters are certainly a contender, but I think strategy sims are the defining genre in PC gaming - hits like the original Civ and Rollercoaster Tycoon helped shaped PC culture, and the mouse and keyboard have always felt like the most natural tools for managing an expansive virtual empire or a budding production hub. We've come a long way since the dawn of SimCity and Populous, but one series has strayed sadly into history's shadow. Honkai Argenti Voice

Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse changed the English voice actors for five-star character Argenti and of Huohuo's companion Mr Tail, both of which were previously portrayed by actor Adam Michael Gold. The company yet to announce the change, but it has been changed on the official website and was spotted by hxg_diluc on social media. [Thanks, hxg_diluc on X!]

In Honkai: Star Rail, Argenti is a five-star Physical Erudition character who specializes in area of effect damage with his Skill and Ultimate. Huohuo, meanwhile, is a Wind Abundance unit and healer who can refill her allies' energy and dispel debuffs. Both characters appeared in Update 1.5, with Huohuo being featured on the gacha banner for the first half and Argenti in the second.

While no reason for the replacement has been disclosed by HoYoverse, the company listed the new Honkai: Star Rail voice actors on its official website. Argenti will now be voiced by Talon Warburton, while Aaron Veach will voice Mr Tail.

The Senren Banka heroine and divine blade guardian Murasame is going to eventually be turned into a Nendoroid.

Good Smile Company announced after Wonder Festival 2024 Summer that it is working on a Nendoroid of the Senren Banka character Murasame. As it is still early in development, only concept art of the heroine appeared.

First, here's the official announcement from Good Smile Company. It noted that the reveal of the Murasame Nendoroid fell on the same day as the Senren Banka game's anniversary. The visual novel first released in on the PC in Japan on July 29, 2016.

https://twitter.com/gsc_kahotan/status/1817756938182295763

To compare, here's the official character profile and art of Murasame from the Steam page.

Senren Banka is a visual novel with dating sim elements. After breaking a sacred sword in a stone at a shrine, Masaomi finds himself engaged to a shrine maiden princess named Yoshino, haunted by the blade's ghost Murasame, and dealing with both a bodyguard named Mako and exchange student named Lena. New Spiritale Sakura Miku Figure Will Wear a Kimono

At Wonder Festival 2024 Summer, one of Taito's Spiritale announcements involved a new Sakura Hatsune Miku figure of the Vocaloid in a kimono. It is still very early in development, as only concept art appeared.

Here's the official announcement. It mainly confirmed that the scale figure is in development. There's also a full piece of concept art included alongside the first image, which gives us a better idea of how the full statue could look. She'll be carrying a matching purse, and it seems like her hair will have some gradation and start to change colors near the bottom of her twintails.

https://twitter.com/Spiritale_shop/status/1817371437138854105

A more standard Sakura Miku option is available now. FuRyu released a noodle stopper figure of the Vocaloid.

The concept art for the Spiritale Sakura Miku figure is done by Hamunezuko. The artist is known for Jellyfish Can't Swim In The Night art. Back in September 2023, Hamunezuko Hatsune Miku art was used for imagery and merchandise for a Mint Heim collaboration cafe. A video of that is still available on Instagram.

The Taito Spiritale Sakura Miku kimono figure is in development, and there's no release window for when we might get to see it next yet.

See How the Honkai Impact 3rd Songque Battlesuit Could Have Looked

HoYoVerse shared concept art for the Honkai Impact 3rd Songque Battlesuit Jovial Deception: Shadowdimmer, which is live now in the game. The latest Typewriter Art Archives highlighted the Chinese influences, going over six options before showing the final one that was chosen.

In the case of each early piece of Honkai Impact 3rd Jovial Deception: Shadowdimmer concept art, there are often multiple looks at the outfit from different approaches or focused-in images of certain details. All of them have Chinese influences, though it varies as to whether they are traditional or modern elements. There are also parts that signify the fact that she sort of fights like a mage or summoner, such as a bagua, coins, scrolls, talismans,

Here are all of the pieces of art HoYoVerse shared:

As a reminder, Songque is a notable character in Honkai Impact 3rd Part 2. She first showed up almost from the beginning. However, initially she was only playable as an AstralOps unit. It's only a few patches in that the Shu got a Battlesuit.

Honkai Impact 3rd is available for PCs and mobile devices, and the Songque Jovial Deception: Shadowdimmer Battlesuit is part of a limited banner following the 7.6 update.

Gundam SEED Freedom Z'Gok Gunpla boxart poll

Bandai Spirits and Sunrise opened a new poll that will let people choose the image that it will use for the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Z'Gok Gunpla boxart. This poll will run for almost a month until late August 2024.

Sunrise has picked six images from the movie; each of them contains a pose that can become a candidate for the Z'Gok's appearance on the boxart. However, the final boxart will not look exactly like the chosen image. Naochika Morishita, who has been designing prior SEED Freedom Gunpla kits including the Duel Blitz Gundam, will use the pose in the winning image as an inspiration for the actual Gunpla boxart.

This Z'Gok is a Mobile Suit that Athrun Zala piloted in the Gundam SEED Freedom movie, which has been available to watch worldwide on Netflix and Prime Video since June 2024. Sunrise used Char Aznable's customized unit of the same name from the 1979 anime Mobile Suit Gundam as an inspiration for this Mobile Suit.

However, while the Gundam SEED sub-series has more ZAFT units modeled after Zeon's Mobile Suits from the Universal Century timeline—such as ZAKU Warrior, GOUF Ignited, and GELGOOG Menace—this Z'Gok does not have an additional name. Its Gunpla kit will thus be known as "Z'Gok (SEED Freedom Ver.)."

Bandai Spirits will close the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Z'Gok Gunpla boxart poll on August 25, 2024. It will reveal the result between late August 2024 and early September 2024.

visions of mana elemental vessels

In Visions of Mana, players will get to collect Elemental Vessels that will help them during fights with enemies, change character classes, and help people get around the world. A new trailer and PlayStation Blog post goes over how the system works.

As someone plays Vision of Mana, they'll get Elemental Vessels tied to various spirits. Three came up in the PlayStation Blog announcement: Vessel of Darkness: Shade Sight, Vessel of Earth: Gnome Shovel, and Vessel of Light: Lumina Lantern. In the case of the Shade Sight, one element of using it involves pulling multiple enemies together in an area via a black hole. In the screenshot for the Lumina Lantern, it shows a light bridge being made. That Elemental Vessel also lets someone connect enemies to spread out damage. The Gnome Shovel creates a transparent rock wall to help block damage in battle.

Here are the screenshots showing the three Visions of Mana Elemental Vessels revealed so far:

As for the new trailer, it focuses on showing the eight Elemental Vessels gameplay. It starts bu showing how the classes change by equipping one, with the Wind one initially being shown. After teasing the Fire, Wind, and Time ones, the trailer focuses on the Darkness, Earth, and Light Elemental Vessels. It also shows the classes unlocked for each character when they equip those three options.

Visions of Mana will come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on August 29, 2024.

Thank Goodness You're Here is one of the silliest and most absurd games I've ever played, thanks to its very British humor.

Thank Goodness You're Here is one of the silliest and most absurd games I've ever played. In fact, I'd almost consider it more of an interactive experience, rather than a proper adventure game or platformer, given how essential everything about the town of Barnsworth and its citizens are to it. Coal Supper is completely committed to the bit, making it a joy to experience.

Rather than starting with any sort of solid explanation as to what's going on, Thank Goodness You're Here begins with a series of advertisements for oddities like Peans ("not quite peas, not quite beans") and Big Ron's Big Pies. It pulls back to your avatar, a very tiny, very yellow man, being told that Barnsworth needs exactly what you've got to offer. After jumping out a window to land on top of a bus to the village and riding it to the mayor's office, you find yourself halted by his secretary. Instead of waiting there for your turn, it's off to explore the town to "assist" the citizens.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNlDi2Kl4ZM&ab_channel=Panic

While Coal Supper and Panic describe Thank Goodness You're Here as a "comedy slapformer," this is an adventure game through and through. You'll wander around town, punching people to talk with them and things to interact with them. In so doing, you'll make the town a better place (maybe). For example, one of the earliest tasks is to assist a man in the town square whose hand is trapped down a grate… because he refuses to let go of a tuppence. This means heading to a pub that needs kegs punched to get a locksmith having a morning drink to unlock access to the butter store, so you can knock down and ride a slab of butter to the growing crowd surrounding the trapped man at the fountain.

I mean, it's all very good. Like this is Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned cat hair mustache good.

It is absolutely ridiculous. There are so many absurd situations and hilarious moments that I don't even want to talk about the others outside that initial example. It would absolutely ruin it to know what's coming. Especially since these moments keep happening. The incidental NPC chattering is fantastic, while still sometimes pointing you toward or hinting at certain situations. The character designs are the absolute goofiest. There a situation involving asbestos, of all things, that makes me laugh thinking about the commentary even as I write this review.

Everything is also handled in such a way that it is perfectly paced and you may occasionally need to do a bit of thinking. Coal Supper set Thank Goodness You're Here up in such a way that the game is always sending you naturally in the direction you need to go to for the next objective. So while you may be temporarily walled off in an area or unable to backtrack, odds are in 10-15 minutes your natural momentum will take you where you need to be. One situation involving retrieving a screwdriver even took me a minute, because of the unexpected additional platforming and exact inputs needed to properly facilitate its delivery.

I honestly love a lot of things about it. However, as much as I enjoyed Thank Goodness You're Here, I'm not sure it will be a universally beloved game. There is some very British humor on display here. (Coal Supper is from Yorkshire after all, and there's even a dialect option in the menu.) If you enjoy Monty Python's Flying Circus or A Bit of Fry and Laurie, you will absolutely love it. However, I do think there are probably people who won't find it as funny as others or may take issue with how easy and effortless it is. It's very much the type of game where you basically need to hit or jump on everything to eventually make things happen.

I have never seen so many people not only asking me to make a complete mess of things, but thanking me for doing so, in my life. But that's exactly what Thank Goodness You're Here feels like it is about, as the game rewards you for your goofy and occasionally destructive behavior with ridiculous, hilarious, and even sometimes a delightfully inappropriate response. It might not end up being a game for everyone, but those who do give it a chance and enjoy this kind of humor will likely be delighted.

Thank Goodness You're Here will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC on August 1, 2024

Usada Pekora Mash Kyrielight FGO Figure Debuts in 2025 Fate/Grand Order

Following the Hololive Vtuber Usada Pekora becoming a Fate/Grand Order (FGO) ambassador, a figure of her as Mash Kyrielight ended up being announced. Following an unpainted prototype appearance at Wonder Festival 2024 Winter, Aniplex fully revealed it at WonFes 2024 Summer and opened pre-orders ahead of its August 2025 debut.

As is pretty evident by the design and name, Pekora is dressed as the Shielder Servant Mash Kyrielight from FGO in this Fate/ series figure. The armor's design and colors are adjusted to better suit her aesthetics, and her hair is done up in her traditional style. Her Nousagi mascot Pekomon also appears alongside her. The figure stands at under a foot tall, as it's just about 11 inches (280mm).

The figure will be ¥24,800 (~$161). In addition to the official Aniplex store, AmiAmi announced it is also taking orders and shipping them worldwide. The Aniplex official store is also including an acrylic FGO backdrop to display behind the figure if someone orders by September 1, 2024. The AmiAmi listing also shows a photo of the figure in front of that backdrop, but doesn't mention it in the listing as a bonus.

Here's how the figure will look:

Persona 5: The Phantom X Japanese Site Claimed persona mobile game

It seems like we could see Persona 5: The Phantom X appear in Japan, as Persona Central noted that Sega registered a p5x.jp domain for a site. This comes after Sega Sammy noted it would explore a global release of the Persona mobile game in May 2024. [Thanks, Persona Central!]

As for the Persona 5: The Phantom X Japanese site registration, the information about the domain doesn't offer too many details about the possible release. It confirmed that Sega Corporation is the owner. It also featured p5x as the name, which follows the same sort of convention used for other Persona game names. The Persona 5 Tactica site is at a site with "p5t" in the URL, and Persona 3 Reload oneincluded "p3r" in it. The Chinese Perfect World site URL is p5x.wanmei.com as well. Finally, the expiration date for it is July 31, 2025, which means we could hear news about this in the next year.

Persona 5: The Phantom X started running in some countries in Asia back in April 2024. So if someone is in South Korea or Taiwan, they can already start playing. While folks from the original Persona 5 aren't the main characters, they do appear. Igor and the Velvet Room remain. It involves a new group of individuals heading into the Metaverse alongside a new mascot similar to Morgana. Multiple beta tests were held in Asia, including in China, as well.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is available on mobile devices in South Korea and Taiwan, and the game could be released in Japan and worldwide.

It's a widely believed fact that comedy is far more difficult than drama. Looking at any gaming platform storefront you're likely to see wall-to-wall action, and while some of it has a lighter tone, for the most part, it's full of drama. It's tough to get a laugh but it's even tougher to say, "Hey, […]
