Microsoft has done a great job making some truly inventive special edition Xbox Series controllers, and their latest effort is one that uses the 'NASA-punk' aesthetics of upcoming big budget Bethesda RPG Starfield. The controller looks phenomenal, but it does cost a fair bit - so I thought it was worth letting you know that the early adopter tax has been lifted, and the controller is now down to £65.

That's still fairly expensive, but given that this controller seems destined to sell out - as it has done in the US - then I thought it was worth bringing up regardless.

New Final Fantasy XVI Ad Casts Cats as Eikons

Part of Square Enix and Sony's marketing plan for Final Fantasy XVI involved cats dressed as Eikons for an ad. In the new brief teaser, people can see a pair of two felines wearing some accessories inspired by Ifrit and Phoenix. For example, one has horns and the other wings. They then play around a building based on one seen in Rosaria in the game.

Here's the Japanese PlayStation ad showing cats dressed as the Final Fantasy XVI Eikons Ifrit and Phoenix as they recreate an early-game battle. This same scene appears in the demo. Some gameplay footage is also interspersed for the segment.

This does differ greatly from another Final Fantasy XVI ad Square Enix shared. The company announced some of the ones appearing in Japan. In addition to a truck driving around with imagery, there's also a 3D animated billboard with Eikons like Ifrit, Shiva, and Titan on it.

While this is the first time seeing cats dressed as Final Fantasy XVI Eikons, we already saw this happen with dogs. Square Enix held a Paws of Valisthea event in Australia. Part of the draw there was to also see dogs and bring your own to dress them up in Eikon costumes.

Final Fantasy XVI will be available for the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. A demo is out now as well. There is a six-month exclusivity period.

honkai star rail silver wolf teams

Silver Wolf in Honkai: Star Rail fills two particular niches depending on how you build her. She can be a decent sub-DPS with her single target Ultimate. However, her Skill and its ability to apply a Weakness onto an enemy is her true bread and butter. For that reason, it's easier to build a party around taking advantage of Silver Wolf than it is to shove Silver Wolf into an existing team. Here are some teams that you can consider for Silver Wolf in Honkai: Star Rail.

For starters, Silver Wolf is key to creating mono-element teams. With her ability to apply a Weakness, a party with Silver Wolf can destroy any enemy line-up without needing to switch characters in and out. If you want to focus on Silver Wolf's Skill, then the less elements you have in a team, the better. Here are some examples of what you can use:

  • Yanqing, Pela, Silver Wolf, Gepard/March 7th
In this composition, all of the characters except Silver Wolf are Ice. If the enemies are already weak to Quantum, you can guarantee applying an Ice Weakness. Pela is a great support to bring with Silver Wolf because both of them can shred DEF and Yanqing is one of the better single-target DPS in the game. This is a team that is good for bosses such as Kafka.
  • Jing Yuan/Serval, Tingyun, Silver Wolf, Bailu
This is a composition that works best on an enemy line-up without an existing Lightning weakness. You can substitute Jing Yuan or Serval depending on who you have. The reason you want to focus on homogenizing your element is, again, to guarantee Silver Wolf can apply the right element to Break. Both Jing Yuan and Serval are AoE DPS, making this a good line-up in places like Caverns of Corrosion or against bosses like the Doomsday Beast.

You can also take advantage of the Silver Wolf and Pela combo of debuffing enemies. Silver Wolf's Talent and Ultimate can decrease a target enemy's DEF. Both of these are up to RNG. Pela can remove buffs as well as lower DEF with her Ultimate. With this in mind (as well as taking into consideration Silver Wolf's Skill), you can run them together in a hyper carry team. For example:

  • DPS, Silver Wolf, Pela, Abundance/Preservation
This is essentially the mono-element Ice party above. But if you don't mind gambling a bit more with Silver Wolf's Weakness application (or you're able to match all the Weaknesses of a line-up), this is a great way to quickly deplete an enemy's HP. Even a DPS who's not fully built can reach some pretty impressive numbers. The downside is that there is an element of randomness in Silver Wolf's ability to inflict DEF shred, which is not ideal in a hyper carry comp.

Finally, you can use Silver Wolf as a Quantum support in a Quantum-focused hyper carry. The F2P version of this would use Qingque, while the ideal version of it uses Seele as the DPS. It would look like this:

  • Seele/Qingque, Silver Wolf, Tingyun, Bailu
All of Silver Wolf and Tingyun's actions are to maximize how much damage your Quantum DPS will deal. This is actually very similar to the above Lightning mono-element team and follows almost the same logic. Both the Lightning and Quantum teams with Silver Wolf have pretty good DoT due to their elements. Which one you should use really depends on which characters you have.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available for the Windows PC and mobile devices. PS4 and PS5 versions are in development.

FFVII Remake Young Tifa

The official Final Fantasy VII Remake Japanese Twitter account shared new concept art of young Tifa wearing her classic Nibelheim cowboy outfit designed for Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion and the recent FFVII Remake trilogy. The tweet showed Tifa's design more recent releases, as well as in the original FFVII.

Tifa wore her iconic cowboy and western-inspired clothes in Nibelheim five years before the start of FFVII Remake and the original FFVII. The design originally appeared in the flashback during FFVII and in certain late-game sections of Crisis Core. The tweet also revealed that the Seventh Heaven bar was inspired by Western taverns and saloons to match with Tifa's costume.

You can take a better look at the new young Tifa concept art for FFVII Remake and Crisis Core based on her Nibelheim look below:

As a reminder, the second part of the FFVII Remake, titled Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, made an appearance at the Summer Game Fest 2023. It is very likely that young Tifa's cowboy design will make an appearance in the game, as the flashback to Nibelheim was briefly featured in a previous trailer.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PlayStation 5 in early 2024 on two discs. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy VII Remake is immediately available for the PS4, PS5, and PC.

FFXVI Eikon Outfits Phoenix

Square Enix collaborated with fashion designer Edmond Luu to produce eight outfits inspired by the Eikons and Dominants from Final Fantasy XVI. The outfits were produced by Luu's fashion label, Pièces Uniques, as part of a "capsule collection" called Artefact Primordial.

Here's the announcement for the collection.

Eikons are Final Fantasy XVI's version of the classic Final Fantasy summons, with each one bound to a Dominant who can summon them. Each outfit is based on both the Eikon and their Dominant and feature representations of their powers, such as Shiva's ice or Ramuh's lightning.

You can view seven of the outfits below. An eighth outfit inspired by Titan and Hugo is set to be revealed in July 2023.

As well as these Final Fantasy XVI inspired outfits, Square Enix also recently collaborated with the Royal Armories in the UK to show a replica of Clive's sword Invictus. It is being displayed at the Tower of London. Square Enix is also showcasing the Eikons in a 3D advertisement in Tokyo, Japan.

Final Fantasy XVI is set to release on June 22, 2023 for PS5 with a PC port on the way some time after the 6 month exclusivity period ends. A demo is also available.
