Valve just condemned Razer's Snap Tap in huge CS2 update

Valve is laying down the law with the advancement in keyboard inputs, slamming input-automation features, and even going so far as to name Snap Tap as an example. In a major blog post, Valve stops short of threatening a ban for CS2 players, instead warning that matches may be interrupted if the feature is left on.

Some of the best gaming keyboards now come with this new input technology, and while Snap Tap is Razer's version of this, it isn't the only one that has been blacklisted by Valve. Wooting's Rappy Snappy is also on the chopping block, and this move sets a concerning precedent for other competitive shooters to follow.

Tactical Breach Wizards is a tactics game for people that don't like tactics games. Magically, it's also a tactics game for people who love them like nothing else. Please lock your Chocobos to attack position and set your Phoenix Downs to stun: Square Enix have released fresh details of Final Fantasy 16's PC port, which has now been dated for launch on 17th September. They've also shared a little about why it's taken so long to arrive - the (generally decent) action-RPG hit PS5 over a year ago, back when I was still some filthy console-playing freelancer.

According to director Hiroshi Takai, it was "impossible" to create the PC and PS5 versions at the same time, even if Square Enix hadn't been restrained by a timed exclusivity clause. He also thinks that the Final Fantasy series faces no "existential risk" right now, despite lower-than-hoped returns from both Final Fantasy 16 and, going by Square Enix's latest financial reports, the more recent and currently PS5-only Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

silent hill 2 remake changes

During a Q&A session with Konami and Bloober Team at a media demo session of Silent Hill 2 Remake, the two teams discussed the development process for the game. In particular, some of the questions focused on the choices Konami and Bloober Team made when it came to this remake. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

To start with, Motoi Okamoto (who worked on Silent Hill: The Short Message and is also working on Silent Hill 2 Remake) stated that Konami looked at studios all around the world when the time came to choose who would work on the remake. The search focused on which studio loved the Silent Hill series the most, and of the final candidates, Bloober Team had the most passion for the project.

A question someone posed to Bloober Team was about how the developers dealt with sections in the original game that felt slow or quiet. Though Bloober Team initially thought to shorten these segments and add some more exciting scenes to the game to modernize it, it ultimately decided to keep the game's atmosphere close to the original iteration. This decision to make the remake similar to the original game affected other parts of the conversation as well.

When Konami and Bloober Team first started working on Silent Hill 2 Remake, there were some disagreements as some members of the Japanese staff felt like they could make changes or updates to the original. This included monster and sound design, to the music. While there are some changes to the remake's appearance, aesthetics, and overall sound, they're still building off the original's base. The original vision of the game would've been a totally new experience from before. However, in the end, both parties chose to focus on making a faithful remake that'll sell well in the current market.

Silent Hill 2 Remake will come out on the PS5 and Windows PC on October 8, 2024.

image cards of the three new Pokemon arriving for Pokemon Unite

The Pokemon Company International and Timi Studio announced that three new Pokémon will be playable in the newest update for the mobile and Switch MOBA Pokémon Unite: Armarouge, Darkrai, and Psyduck. The three will make their way to Pokémon Unite in the coming months, with Armarouge leading the charge on September 12, 2024, Darkrai in October 2024, and Psyduck in November 2024.

The announcement was accompanied by a trailer, showcasing the Pokémon and their respective roles. You can see the gameplay footage here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23vzCHG2vcY
Video via The Pokémon Company

The showcase for Armarouge shows off its roll as an Attacker. It deploys a type of fire field and uses its cannonto attack wide areas. Darkrai, a speedster type, appears to use a much more tricky playstyle. The showcase shows it trap an enemy Lucario in a nightmare, then use a teleportation skill to appear in unexpected places. It seems this would be designed to confound the enemy and make the Pokemon a more slippery target. Psyduck appears as a Supporter in Pokemon Unite. The trailer showed off its ability to heal allies, cross distances while surfing on a wave, and an attack using waves of psychic energy.

These are the latest additions to Pokémon Unite following Miraidon, Falinks, and Ceruledge in February 2024, April 2024, and June 2024, respectively. The third anniversary update for the game brought the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh in July 2024.

At this time, there is no announcement as to whether any of these new playable Pokemon will be time limited event units.

Pokemon Unite is available on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch, and we'll see Armarouge appear as the next new unit on September 12, 2024.

Silent Hill 2 Story Trailer

A new story trailer has been released for the Silent Hill 2 remake, with Maria, Mary, James, and Eddie appearing prominently throughout it. The trailer shows off a range of scenes recreated from the original game.

The story trailer opens on a remake of the famous scene of Maria inside a jail cell, initially in a 4:3 aspect ratio to emulate the original game. This scene appears throughout the trailer, with much of the original dialogue intact. Other scenes shown off in the Silent Hill 2 remake trailer include flashbacks to Mary in a hotel room, scenes of James meeting Eddie and Angela lying next to a mirror. All these scenes appear to be faithful to the original scenes, with changes to some character designs and entirely new voice acting.

The story trailer also shows off a range of locations from Silent Hill 2, with some being the streets of Silent Hill, the pavilion in Rosewater Park where James first meets Maria, and a jukebox in a bar (possibly Heaven's Night). We also get to see a clearer shot of the initial rest stop that's been seen in previous trailers. In addition, the trailer features a new arrangement of "Promise" from original Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. No new gameplay was shown off in the trailer, however.

The full trailer can be seen here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aFrvEu2Ku8

The Silent Hill 2 remake was first announced in 2022 through a Silent Hill Transmission live stream, and a gameplay trailer was seen earlier this year at Sony's State of Play presentation in January 2024. The remake is being developed by Bloober Team, who previously developed Layers of Fear and The Medium. Original team members Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito are also involved in the game's production.

The Silent Hill 2 remake will release on October 8, 2024 for PC and PS5.

Roche in Final Fantasy VII Remake Almost Had Green or Red Hair

Square Enix took to the official Japanese social media account for Final Fantasy VII to share how Roche could have looked in FFVII Remake. The two pieces of concept art from Roberto Ferrari and Tetsuya Nomura showed how he actually turned out, with his long, blonde hair, as well as seven other options with altered hairstyles, hair colors, and tattoos.

When it comes to the seven possible examples, some look a bit similar to how Roche finally looked in Final Fantasy VII Remake. For example, the hair color in option three is similar, while the length is close in both options five and six. However, all of the others feature different takes on the character. Options one, three, and seven also tried double eyebrow rings on him. Both options four and six involved him having a black tattoo around his right eye, with the sixth one even featuring a second design option. Five of the styles seemed to try a shorter hairstyle, though the one tied to six also featured some longer options on the far left.

Here is the piece that showed the possible extra options.

Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicles Feels Like Tales Tensura game

Okay, I'm going to start this That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicles review off by saying I'm honestly shocked how little I heard about the game ahead of launch. Like I recall an initial announcement, a release date reveal, and maybe a few mentions on social media. But other than that, there didn't seem to be much acknowledgement about this worldwide TenSura game release. Which is a shame, as I really enjoyed it and feel like it's something of a stripped down Tales of experience in some ways.

That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicle is essentially a truncated take on the TenSura story in the form of a game. We start with Rimuru Tempest as a slime, who was originally a man from our world who died and reincarnated in a fantasy one. Because of the way the human version of the character lived, the slime version started with a number of skills like the absorbing Predator and a Great Sage "assistant." Upon meeting a dragon named Veldora, the slime gains new abilities like sight and a mission: to create a safe space for people to live in peace.

From there, the game fast forwards to when Rimuru acquired a human form from Shizu and allied with the goblins they named. So we then play as the slime after this new form is acquired, allies with the ogres that become kijins, and they all continue to build up the village. By the time it ends, the crew hits the Kingdom of Falmuth battle arc, so it covers a decent chunk of the story in a CliffsNotes sort of way. Elements get skipped so we can experience more action-heavy moments. It's fine, but those who really enjoy the series might be a bit disappointed to see so much skipping around.

The structure for That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicle is rather simplistic, with every element of the game essentially serving as a means to improve the combat segments and advance the TenSura storyline. So you'll see some story-based segments, which are represented either with Tales of style conversations with character portraits, art, or character models in the world interacting. This will provide an excuse for you to head to a location in the world and fight. You head out with a party of five. Three of them are active members you control, and two are support members who can be summoned with a button press for a single support action.

Said dungeon encounters are genuinely the best part of the game, and I had so much fun with them. In a way, they're somewhat reminiscent of the Tales series as well. You control one of the three characters in a completely 2D dungeon. The idea is to chain together combos to deal as much damage as possible You have standard attacks, which can change direction or output depending on button presses and directions. There are specials you can equip, with additional ones available if you also press the directions at the same times as the inputs. Each character has what feels like an ultimate move that can be unleashed when a gauge is full. (In the case of Rimuru, this is Predator of course.) You can also dodge, and swapping between your three characters is highly recommended. It's definitely a highlight, especially since using specials breaks enemy shields and better performances net greater rewards.

The dungeon-crawling is interesting as well. It's somewhat similar to the 2D branching paths of a game like Valkyrie Profile, wherein you can head into the foreground and background to go down different routes for extra encounters and treasures. Most of the dungeons are rather brief, enough so you can go through a few battles, check out your latest party composition, and really enjoy the combat system. It isn't super intense or detailed, but it's enjoyable enough. It almost feels a little like a mobile game in terms of structure and mission-length, but not in a bad way.

Upon arriving back at the village in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicles, everything Rimuru and the party accomplished serves to improve them and advance the TenSura campaign so they are more prepared for future fights. Those materials you picked up from fights and treasure chests? Those go into building up the village. Each building you create boosts the stats of the party. Likewise, keeping characters around for fights earns them points you can apply to the skill tree to increase their stats and ability to use special skills. I do wish there was a bit more actual city management to the village development portion of the game. However, I did appreciate seeing the tangible effects every time I built things up.

I appreciated the gameplay loop! Mainly because the combat system is so much fun. It really reminded me of playing one of the older Tales entries sometimes. However, I acknowledge that it does get a little repetitive. If you aren't a fan of the series, it might not click. Also, it's wise to go in knowing you'll spend a lot of time reading through story segments, heading into the same locations to fight a set number of foes, and acquiring materials so you can do that all over again.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicles is one of those anime games that I'd say is more than serviceable, but isn't extraordinary. People who like TenSura a lot will definitely get more out of the game than someone who is completely unfamiliar with it. I'd even say for the right price, someone who enjoys the Tales of combat system might even want to consider it. That really is the draw of the title, and it's fun to take advantage of characters' unique traits. While it isn't trendsetting or amazing, it's perfectly fine.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Isekai Chronicles is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Chad Uses Brazo Derecho de Gigante in Bleach Rebirth of Souls

We already knew Yasutora Sado, aka Chad, would be playable in Bleach Rebirth of Souls due to early trailers. Now the latest character trailer is completely dedicated to him and his attacks.

Things begin with us seeing Chad approach on the battlefield. He transforms his right arm into Brazo Derecha de Gigante. From there, we get to see actual attacks against Uryu Ishida. He first uses his Signature Move Agresion, which can be used at close or long range. However, the announcement noted that it is stronger at shorter ranges. The Spiritual Pressure Move Alerta is a buff that makes Agresion charge faster and hit harder. Meanwhile, the Spiritual Pressure Move Contraataque is an uppercut that can be used at a close range. For his Awakening, his left arm becomes Brazo Izquierda del Diablo.

Here is the Bleach Rebirth of Souls Chad character trailer:

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time Delayed Again

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time no longer has an October 2024 release date, as the Switch game is delayed again. Level-5 also didn't share an updated release window or date with us in the announcement on the title's official site.

Since being announced in February 2023, Level-5 delayed the Switch game Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time multiple times. It initially had a 2023 launch window. During the November 2023 Level-5 Vision event, it got pushed into 2024. In January 2024, Keiji Inafune said it would launch in Summer 2024. Then, during the February 2024 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, it ended up with an October 2024 release date.

Level-5 did note when it expects to share more information on a new Fantasy Life i release date. It said its Level-5 Vision 2024: To the World's Children showcase will offer updates on it and other games. However, there is no air date for that presentation. We only know it will arrive in Summer 2024.

This isn't the only Level-5 game to miss expected launch windows. Decapoliceoriginally had a 2023 release window. In November 2023, that ended up being moved to 2025.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time is in development for the Nintendo Switch, and there's no release date for it now that it is once again delayed.
