A wildly unexpected mash-up of the distant past and the modern or near-future world is always going to garner attention in videogames. The dinosaur-filled streets of Exoprimal, for example, or the whiplash between historical settings and science fiction laboratories in the earlier Assassin's Creed games, immediately turns heads. This sort of discordance is even more compelling in Kingmakers, which has helped create huge anticipation for its combination of medieval and modern warfare, along with a hybrid of strategy and shooter design. Now, after months of waiting, we finally have a Kingmakers release date, and it's not far off.

It was probably inevitable that a game like Cattle Country would be made. The runaway success of Stardew Valley, which put a new spin on farming games like Harvest Moon, has seen the simulation subgenre resurgent, with projects ranging from Coral Island to Dreamlight Valley finding large audiences in recent years. It's only natural, then, that a historical take on farming games would follow, with the Western American focus of Cattle Country offering a suitable setting. Now, after anticipating the project for nearly a year, Cattle Country has just launched on Steam.

Mini gaming PCs just keep getting smaller and smaller, but this one liter AMD Ryzen powered gaming PC might be one of the smallest I've ever seen. The Thermalright Frozen Creator is a water-cooled mini PC that is a manufacturing marvel, with an open frame design that incorporates AIO water cooling and a built-in screen.

The mini PC market is booming and we have chipmakers like AMD to thank for it. The reduced power demands of modern CPUs has made it functionally possible to create the best mini gaming PC designs without heat becoming a major issue. That's allowed designs like this new Thermalright one to flourish, leaving enough power in this build for 1080p gaming without burning out.

What's the best F1 25 China setup? The race in the far east is a fan-favorite in Formula 1 every year, and is one of the trickiest, which means you need the perfect setup to ensure you end the session on the top step of the podium. Whether you're taking over from another driver in Career Mode or seeing what's new in Braking Point, the China Grand Prix is one of the first you'll attempt.

Since it's not an enclosed street circuit, the best setup for a track like China differs drastically from the likes of Monaco in F1 25. The racing game series is always changing its mechanics to ensure you need different setups each and every year. We have all the details on what's best to use this year.

Whether it's watching CDPR slowly but surely transform Cyberpunk 2077 into the gritty, hard-hitting RPG it was supposed to be, or watching No Man's Sky finally become the gorgeous extra-terrestrial survival adventure that it was sold as: watching videogames evolve is one of our favorite pastimes. Section 13 - once Blackout Protocol - is one of those games, starting its life as a slow-paced co-op shooter before blossoming into a high-octane, action-packed roguelike with Hades-style power-ups and various new levels. Finally hitting 1.0 on Steam, Section 13 might look similar at a glance, but it's a completely new game in practice.

League of Legends' Hall of Legends, perhaps the most divisive addition in the game's history. Debuting in 2024, T1 icon Lee 'Faker' Sang-hyeok was the first player to be inducted into Riot's official hall of fame, but his associated Ahri skin cost $450 for its top-tier edition, and $300 for its mid-tier bundle, prompting perhaps the most explosive backlash I've seen in the game's history. With the announcement that RNG's Jian 'Uzi' Zi-hao was joining the elite roster a week ago, I'm sure many of us were hoping and praying that the price of his skins would be a little easier to swallow and, while the bundle does cost less, there's not that big of a difference.

What is the Elden Ring movie release date? To many, Elden Ring is merely a game about fighting… things. Monsters, people, strange, non-descript globules of matter; fighting does take center stage in FromSoft's epic, but there is so much more to Elden Ring than a good scrap. With a movie officially in the works, we've gathered everything there is to know about the release date, the cast, and what they might tackle with the story.

The Elden Ring movie isn't the first video game to get a shot at the big screen, and it most certainly won't be the last. With such a deep well to pull from, though, we can see this being up there as one of the best. It's difficult to imagine just how the director will approach the soulslike game, though, with Elden Ring being an immersive, environmental tale, rather than a standard A-to-B affair.

Hollowbody, Crow Country, Signalis, Post Trauma - over the past five years, there have been dozens of games that try to capture the style of classic survival horror, either paying homage to or standing on the shoulders of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. It's fixed cameras. It's low-poly visuals. It's a '90s or '90s-inspired setting where clunky, tank-control combat meets inventive, sometimes surreal puzzles. It's bad news for Microsoft, as a new set of Lenovo Legion Go S benchmarks between the Windows 11 and SteamOS versions shows that SteamOS is much better for gaming on handhelds right now, emphasising the performance gulf between the two platforms. With SteamOS also now officially available for third-party handhelds, this benchmark is further proof that Windows should no longer necessarily be the first choice for PC gamers.

In our initial Lenovo Legion Go S test back at CES, we praised how natural SteamOS felt on the Lenovo handheld. The company wasn't willing to make performance comparisons with its Windows 11 model at the time, but it looks like the Microsoft platform is the slower option for gamers looking for the best handheld right now.

FuRyu Working on a Frieren Staff Replica Cosplay Prop

FuRyu used its social media account for figures and merchandise to confirm it will release a Frieren replica of the staff the heroine uses that can be used as a cosplay prop. It will launch in October 2025. There's no price for it yet. It is designed to look exactly like the weapon from the anime and manga.

So far, there are very few details about this Frieren staff replica, though there is a first photo of the cosplay prop and we know its size. It will stand at 42cm tall, which is about over 16 inches. This means it will not be a 1:1 item, as the actual staff in the manga and anime is almost as tall as she is. We don't know what materials will be used to make it, but it does look as though the red fabric ribbon around the top will remain.

Here's a first photo of FuRyu's replica of the weapon from Frieren

To compare, you can see clear images of her staff in the anime in the YORUSHIKA "Haru" opening video below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqsnJJK8GA4&ab_channel=TOHOanimation%E3%83%81%E3%83%A3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%8D%E3%83%AB

Earlier in February 2025, FuRyu released two other pieces of Frieren merchandise. Both were noodle stopper figures. This means they look like Frieren and Fern as they're sitting down, and they can be used to hold a cup of instant noodles shut or posed on a shelf. Those released in February 2025 in Japan, and sites like Good Smile Company are selling them worldwide.

The Frieren staff replica from FuRyu that can be used as a cosplay prop will release in Japan in October 2025. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll. Viz Media handles the manga outside Japan.

FFXIV Mount Based on His Royal Headness Leonogg I

Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV Online Store started selling a new His Royal Headness on Parade mount based on the Leonogg I boss in the FFXIV Dawntrail The Strayborough Deadwalk dungeon. It costs $24. This is an account-wide mount, so all of your characters will be able to get and use it.

When Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail launched, The Strayborough Deadwalk dungeon with His Royal Headness Leonogg I, Jack-in-the-Pot, and Traumerei lurking inside debuted, and the FFXIV mount is close to an exact replica of the character. The theme of this dungeon involved a sort of abandoned amusement park. You can only access the Solution Nine dungeon after beating "Dawntrail" and "Something Stray in the Neighborhood." His Royal Headness Leonogg I is the first of the three bosses we face within.

In the case of the mount, our characters will ride on top of His Royal Headness on Parade's head. The example screenshots and video involve a Lalafell on top of it. However, after the 20 second mark of the video, we do get to see what it looks like when other races ride on the creature. It can be used on the ground or to fly through the air.

Here are the two screenshots introducing the mount:

And you can see the video of the mount below:

Final Fantasy XIV and the Dawntrail expansion are available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

That opportunity ends on June 20, 2025. You need to buy the Baseball Pass and finish its missions to get No 77 Batter outfit.

As for the other additions, trailers and details for K appeared ahead of Lord, for Justice, beginning in NIKKE. She's an Elysion unit who is part of Perilous Siege and functions as an Attacker. She uses the Double Hazard SMG and deals Electric damage, and her Means of Righteousness Burst Skill is a III type. Both of her passives increase damage, with Scale of Righteousness increasing critical rate and Execution of Righteousness reducing allies' maximum ammunition capacity in exchange for increasing damage. She'll appear in Ordinary Recruit and Social Point Recruit after her debut banner ends on June 11, 2025.

Vtuber Bao the Whale Sings Wuthering Waves Ciaccona Song

Kuro Games released the "Lulala! Lululala!" EP 2.3 for the Wuthering Waves character Ciaccona, and in so doing also revealed that Vtuber Bao the Whale sings the English version of that track from the game. It is available on YouTube, as well as on Apple Music and Spotify. Bao didn't release any statement beyond sharing the announcement and confirming she's the performer for the track on social media.

Bao the Whale is only the singer for the English version of the Ciaccona song, as the Vtuber isn't the voice actress for the Wuthering Waves character. The English voice actress is Rebecca Hanssen. Most recently, you might recognize Hanssen as the person behind Eve in Stellar Blade and Mellore in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Here's the Bao the Whale performance of the Wuthering Waves Ciaccona song "Lulala! Lululala!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOhuSpV56d8&ab_channel=WutheringWaves

The Japanese version's singer is Sion Tsuji, Maggie sings it in Chinese, and Yuzuha Riko is the Korean version performer.

Ciaccona is a really recent Wuthering Waves character. She debuted on May 22, 2025, as part of the second half of the 2.3 update. She's a five-star Aero Resonator. She uses guns when she fights, and her signature weapon is the Absolute Pulsation pistol that debuted on the equipment banner alongside her. Both of those banners are available until June 11, 2025.

Wuthering Waves is available on the PS5, PC, and mobile devices. The Ciaccona banner will run until June 11, 2025. After it ends, we'll see the 2.4 update appear.

Fantasy Life i Switch 2 Version a Launch JRPG for the Console

Level-5 announced that the promised update for the Switch version of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time that adds Switch 2 adjustments, as well as the new version of the game for Nintendo's latest console, will debut on June 5, 2025. This makes the JRPG yet another launch title for the Switch 2.

The Switch 2 version of the game will be slightly more expensive. The game is only available digitally. It's $59.99 for the Switch version on the eShop. If someone buys the JRPG for the Switch 2 directly from Nintendo's storefront, it will be $62.58. If someone had it for the original Switch, it will cost $2.59 for the upgrade.

There's no video showing the difference between the two versions of the Switch releases yet. However, Level-5 did note three differences. One is that the frame rate will be improved on the Switch 2. It will also load more quickly. Finally, there will be improved graphics, and the publisher did share two side-by-side images comparing those changes.

You can see those comparison screenshots below. Level-5 highlighted specific points to show the differences.

This is just one new addition for the game. Level-5 also promised free DLC would be released for Fantasy Life i after it passed 500,000 copies sold. That sounds like it might involve some endgame or post-game content.

It also means there will be two JRPG games for the Switch 2 at launch, with both being existing titles. In addition to Fantasy Life i, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster will arrive on launch day.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time is available now on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Switch 2 version and upgrade update file will launch on June 5, 2025.

Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake Release Date Set

On Dragon Quest Day 2025, Square Enix announced the release date for Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake. It will debut on October 30, 2025. This will be 39 years after the first game debuted on the Famicom and MSX systems and 36 years after the JRPG's first US debut on the NES. The base game is $59.99, and there will also be a $149.99 Collector's Edition sold as well. They will be sold alone or in a bundle with the third game for $99.99, and playing the first two with save data from the third gets you a Dog Suit costume for the first and Cat Suit outfit for the second.

Square Enix also confirmed platforms for the return of the two JRPG games alongside the Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake release date. We already knew the game would be on the Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, just like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. However, the Switch 2 ended up being added as well.

As a reminder, these HD-2D Remake games redo JRPG games in the same style as the Octopath Traveler series. For these two, there will also be new additions. Some of these will involve additional story elements, as well as the aforementioned new costumes tied to save data.

As for the Collector's Edition, we know everything in it. That starts with a physical copy of the game. You also get 12 acrylic blocks standees, with six of them being human characters, one being a dog, and four being major enemies from the two games. The Outstanding Outfit Kit DLC with an Arriviste's Vest, Mad Cap, Ring of Strength, and Slime Earrings is part of the bundle, as are two wallpapers for a PC or tablet. The pre-order bonus seeds that influence stats and Elevating Stats are also included. The Square Enix Online Store is already taking orders for it.

Here's a photo of all that:

In case you missed it, here's the teaser trailer that showed gameplay footage for these two new installments:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDtWQZNL5MA&ab_channel=SquareEnix

The Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake release date is October 30, 2025, and we'll see it on the Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Nintendo working to prevent Switch 2 and accessories resell listings in Japan

Nintendo announced that it has signed an agreement with three companies managing major free market websites in Japan to prevent illegal listings featuring the Nintendo Switch 2 and its related items. The companies in question are Mercari, Rakuten—which runs Rakuten Rakuma, and LINE Yahoo, which runs Yahoo! Auction and Yahoo! FreMa.

The Japanese game company has been working hard to ensure that the initial batches of Switch 2 are available to people who actually want to enjoy the new console. Nintendo is holding lottery sales to give more chances to legitimate buyers, as opposed to resellers who would just put up scalped Switch 2 listings on sites like Mercari. In addition, the company will mostly release exclusive versions of the Switch 2 that are region- and language-locked in Japan to discourage foreign tourists from getting the console there.

The sheer popularity of the Switch console series in Japan has led to an overwhelming demand for the Switch 2 in the country. In late April 2025, Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa published a lengthy tweet explaining the Switch 2 lottery sales in Japan. Those not chosen in the first batch on April 24, 2025, would be immediately placed in subsequent batches. However, not even the second lottery batch would be enough to satisfy all the demands in the country.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be available in Japan on June 5, 2025. The new console will also be available in North America and Europe on the same day. In addition, Nintendo will release the console in four Southeast Asian countries—Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines—later between July and September 2025.

TMNT: Tactically Takedown is a delightfully challenging game, once you get settled and accustomed to the pace.

Strange Scaffold proved itself quite an unusual developer, due to doing unconventional and narratively interesting things with titles like Clickolding and Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3. TMNT: Tactical Takedown is an opportunity to do that with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IP, and it's surprising just how creative the team got to be. While I do think it isn't for everyone, due to the way the narrative forces the direction of early encounters and the initial difficulty, but it is a delightful challenge once someone gets settled.

As established ahead of launch, TMNT: Tactical Takedown is set after some definitive events that resulted in both Splinter and Shredder's deaths. The turtles have grown up a bit, which means they're on their own paths. For example, at the outset Raphael is sharing an apartment with Casey Jones. However, Karai, the new leader of the Foot Clan, invades with a horde of units to invade the sewer stronghold, recover Shredder's kabuto, and defeat the turtles. It's up to the quartet to reunite, regroup, and fight back.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDby7SjDfRk&ab_channel=StrangeScaffold

While I do appreciate the direction TMNT: Tactical Takedown takes, I wish the initial approach and introduction worked differently. When the game starts, we following Michelangelo as he starts investigating the Foot Clan incursion into the sewers. Things start with some tutorial style segments showing how each action, be it to move a turtle, deal damage, or move an enemy, uses one some of the up to six points each turtle gets per turn. It also brings up how we get six hearts, losing one for each hit of damage, and that we can only revive twice per level. It shows how stage mutations are designed to encourage forward movement toward goals, with new sections opening up on turns and existing ones disappearing to force you forward.

However, the downside to this is there are moments when I felt the forced "narrative" direction for levels and Strange Scaffold's "guiding" us through a level doesn't allow for as much strategic experimentation. At the outset, Michelangelo, then his brothers, end up overwhelmed by Karai and her soldiers. While I appreciate the structure and concept, it makes it difficult to really experiment and understand characters' initial movesets. You're tossed in and not given a chance to experiment with unique movement options, since you need to use skills to get around the field, and test the additional effects that come from proper positioning around foes. The constant movement of the battlefield and overwhelming hordes of enemies also impart a sense of urgency that I felt prevented me from really getting my bearings until I'd actually used three of the turtles.

Once the turtles start to get their bearings and properly fight back, it feels like Strange Scaffold gets TMNT Tactical Takedown on more solid footing. After you're able to access the shop and start customizing movesets, I feel like it really opens up and feels fantastic. That extra element of control makes the execution shine. See, I feel like TMNT Tactical Takedown can sometimes feel like Fights in Tight Spaces and Knights in Tight Spaces. Because of the mutation mechanic, a stage might be a more contained area at parts. Knocking an enemy that is especially strong out of bounds might be a wiser choice than outright attacking. Prioritizing attacks and movements based on energy you have left becomes critical. It can be about dealing with the most hazardous opponents first or attempting to use AOE or enemy moment skills for crowd control.

This is complemented by what ends up being a genuinely fascinating Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story, as Strange Scaffold really goes some places with TMNT Tactical Takedown. First, a more futuristic look at what happens with the brothers is a novel approach. The team also did a fantastic job of implementing different characters from the series' run, including major and minor ones and using them well. I appreciate the decision to split characters up both so we can better focus on what they're capable of on their own in levels and see who they are as individuals in this new installment.

I also love the visual approach. TMNT Tactical Takedown looks like a tabletop RPG. All ally and enemy units look like miniatures, and they're dropped down on the field and move in ways that resemble those types of actions. The aesthetic is maintained for setpieces and maps too. It suits the situations so well!

TMNT: Tactically Takedown is a delightfully challenging game, once you get settled and accustomed to the pace. It does involve quite a bit of adjustment as the story gets started. I wish there was perhaps a bit more of an opportunity to be introduced to movesets or experiment as a result. But after a few hours spent getting accustomed to the nuances, you'll find this

Dave from Dave the Diver

Dave the Diver is a gem. You have calm, relaxing fishing that can occasionally get chaotic if large, aggressive fish catch you. During the night, you experience the joys of managing a sushi restaurant during peak times. It's a lot, but that's what makes it fun.

While it's certainly a unique game, it's still possible to fill the void left after finishing your Dave the Diver playthrough. Whether you like the sushi restaurant aspects, deep ocean diving, or management mechanics, we've developed a list of the best games like Dave the Diver that you can play right now.

Moonlighter

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81FJurvZuOg

One of the closest matches you'll find on this list is Moonlighter, a game that has you dungeon-crawling at night and selling your wares during the day. With a similar gameplay loop to Dave the Diver and a sequel planned for Summer 2025, Moonlighter is one of your best bets if you want a mix of shopkeeping and, in this case, dungeon diving, all while learning valuable lessons about chasing your dreams.

Luna's Fishing Garden

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INwEkGW1sHo

What if you're only interested in some fishing and adorable pixelated graphics and don't want the stress of Dave the Diver's combat? Luna's Fishing Garden is a short and sweet fishing game where your goal as the game's protagonist, Luna, is to clean up nearby islands and deliver fish to spirits that reside on them.

You won't find any complex gameplay mechanics or deep lore here. You're here to fish, clean up some trash, and decorate your islands to transform them from empty lands to beautiful, lush environments. If you want a short game that you can finish in one night after your Dave the Diver playthrough, Luna's Fishing Garden might be just what you're looking for.

Dredge

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrRWb7tFxR8

On the other side of the fishing game spectrum is DREDGE, a single-player adventure that focuses on intricate exploration and mechanics alongside a fascinatingly unique art style. While it has a noticeably grittier vibe than Dave the Diver, it's another perfect choice if you enjoyed the game's fishing half but want something a little different.

Chef RPG

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKySdMKzgZ8

Chef RPG has it all. Whether you like Dave the Diver's restaurant management system, resource gathering, or its graphics, you'll find many of these aspects and more in this title.

Taking place in White Ash Harbor, your goal is to revive a local restaurant, Le Sequoia, across seasons while befriending the town's locals and discovering hundreds of cooking recipes. There's friendship and romance along the way, giving you plenty of side goals to unlock as you focus on your primary goal of restoring a rundown restaurant to its former glory. Regardless of which part of Dave the Diver's story and gameplay was your favorite, you're likely to find plenty of similarities between it and Chef RPG.

SteamWorld Dig

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe-9OPMUz4w

How do you feel about a game that has the same feel-good energy as Dave the Diver but with a completely different premise and gameplay loop? SteamWorld Dig is all about heading into some mines, collecting resources to sell, and uncovering secrets within the world. There's more than meets the eye here, much like in Dave the Diver's universe.

Better yet, there are multiple of these games, including a SteamWorld Dig 2 sequel and SteamWorld Heist if you want to change genres for a bit. If you want a mix of resource gathering, questing, and combat that you can spend anywhere from a few to dozens of hours playing, this is certainly a worthwhile pickup.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwXRjivrrm4

It's time to jump into the oldest entry on this list, Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale. At its core, your goal is to venture into dungeons, collect loot, and make a ton of money through your item shop. While it may seem simplistic at first, Recettear's mechanics delve a little deeper with features like haggling, varying buying habits among customers, and item upgrades to make dungeon diving easier. All the while, you have a cute anime art style from the early 2000s, creating a peaceful and familiar vibe.

Between all that and an HD Edition planned to release sometime in 2025, Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale is a great choice if you want to jump into the past with a surprisingly complex shop management game with dungeon-diving mechanics.

Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OLq60psk6k

Most of these entries so far have focused on Dave the Diver's deep-sea diving and shop (well, restaurant) management systems without looking at one of its most important parts: sushi. If your favorite part of the playthrough was owning a sushi restaurant and learning more about different fish, Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends is a great next choice.

Rolling Hills has you playing as an adorable robot who, you guessed it, runs a sushi restaurant. Over time, you'll unlock new recipes, purchase items to upgrade your dishes, and buy furniture to improve your restaurant's ambience for customers. These features and Dave the Diver's sushi restaurant share multiple parallels, with enough differences to distinguish the two in their respective genres.

Doloc Town

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQbnw03wMdM

A newer entry in this list is Doloc Town, a post-apocalyptic farming simulator game with cooking, fishing, structure building, and more. For a world following apocalyptic events, it's surprisingly cozy and peaceful beyond the ruins you find throughout your playthrough. Whether you prefer more modern takes on Dave the Diver's gameplay loops, want to try something within its genre but need a little change, or just like pixelated graphics, Doloc Town is a solid choice, especially if you also enjoy games like Terraria, Stardew Valley, or even Minecraft.

At the time of writing, Doloc Town is currently in Early Access, giving even more opportunities for its story to grow and develop over time. However, that also means it's subject to change, which can influence its spot on this list. We'll continue to update this information over time as more details become available.

Travellers Rest

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDk0H02wYXs

What's more satisfying than running a tavern built on your own hard work and dedication and watching your patrons relax for the night? Much like Dave the Diver, Travellers Rest has a resource gathering and shop management gameplay loop, with your primary purpose to make the best tavern around.

Throughout your playthrough, you'll create workshop structures, gather materials, and decorate your shop to make your customers happy, all while discovering new recipes to better your establishment. Travellers Rest is another great option if you enjoyed both Dave the Diver's world exploration and restaurant management mechanics alongside its satisfying art style.

While the Iron's Hot

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhzpVa17TZ8

We've talked a lot about food in this list, but what about owning your own blacksmith's workshop? While the Iron's Hot has you playing as a young smithing expert who's goal is to travel around Ellian, a land known for gathering and developing legendary artisans, to collect resources and hone his smithing skills. Along the way, you'll rebuild an abandoned village through your blacksmithing skills while discovering various secrets scattered throughout the world.

If you enjoy seeing your actions directly impact the world around you, While the Iron's Hot is a great pick.

Cult of the Lamb

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlfGvPKPEiE

Am I comparing Dave the Diver to a game about creating a cult? You bet I am, even if it's not for that particular reason. Cult of the Lamb is all about running around and defeating heretics in hopes of recruiting various animals to your cult. Looking past the noticeable differences in art style and vibe, the gameplay loop between it and Dave the Diver is shockingly similar.

Outside of finding new followers for your cult, you and your members will also collect resources and build a base of operations during the day, while nighttime is when you venture out into the woods to slay monsters, collect gold, and recruit new cult members. There's a lot more to this story than it initially presents to you, and it's certainly worth picking up after concluding your Dave the Diver playthrough.

Honorable Mention - Subnautica

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtP8r8nRfko

We can't have a list of games involving deep-sea exploration without mentioning Subnautica. As one of the most well-known and in-depth aquatic exploration games out there, you're in for a treat with this one.

However, comparing this to Dave the Diver is a bit of a stretch, especially since it's geared more toward open-world survival and occasional horror elements than restaurant management and relaxing ocean exploration. Nonetheless, if your favorite part of Dave the Diver was exploring deep sea depths and you want more of a challenge, Subnautica is here to get your heart racing.

What's your favorite game that creates a unique experience by combining multiple genres? Let us know in the comments below!

MindsEye driving and shooting

Grand Theft Auto 6, you are so close, yet so far away. 364 days as of today, exactly. And so that means there's a lot of gaming time to fill between now and then.

If you're a fan of games like GTA, and who isn't, then we may have a sleeper hit on our hands coming out in just a few weeks. The game is called MindsEye, and it's from the new studio founded by former Rockstar Games president and GTA 5 producer Leslie Benzies.

MindsEye car chase gameplay screenshot
Image via Build A Rocket Boy

In a new video released today by the game's dev studio, Build a Rocket Boy, the game lays it all out to explain exactly what it is: a third-person, open-world action game in the same vein as GTA and Red Dead Redemption, but with a near-future twist.

MindsEye is set in a fictional desert city named Redrock, and it features just about everything you'd expect from a game like GTA. There's lots of driving and shooting action as you play as a character named Jacob, "in a world where AI, hi-tech experimentation and unchecked military power shapes every encounter." Doesn't sound too far from the truth nowadays.

As part of today's new trailer, MindsEye's 2025 roadmap was unveiled, teasing lots of upcoming content updates and different game modes like a Horde mode, car races, combat missions, drone races, and more, with future plans for collabs, new missions, and even multiplayer some time in the fall.

I could see this game performing very well with gamers looking to scratch their GTA itch while waiting for GTA 6, and it's one I've had my eye on for a while. I'm hoping for the best for it, and it's one I will continue to watch and play while dreaming of a new, popular game that evokes the feelings of GTA and GTA Online.

At the same time, it could also fall flat on its face trying to do what Rockstar Games is best at, without forming its own identity. Time will tell, and it's only a few short weeks away from launching, so it's a title that gamers may need to keep on their radar.

MindsEye 2025 content roadmap

MindsEye launches on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on June 10.

Mario Kart on the Switch 2

Nintendo has finally released an official list of games incompatible with Nintendo Switch 2 after initially revealing in the first reveal Nintendo Direct that not all Switch 1 games are usable on the system, and there are actually some big surprises on the list we were not expecting.

On the Nintendo website, Nintendo goes into the full list of incompatible games on Switch 2 coming from Switch 1, as well as games that have some compatibility issues with the new system, and while they might start, they won't be able to be played fully.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itpcsQQvgAQ

The full list of games and software that can't be played on Switch 2 includes:

  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit

    • The Nintendo Switch 2 console cannot be inserted into the Toy-Con VR Goggles accessory, so this game cannot be played.

  • NicoNico
  • ABEMA
  • Hulu
  • Crunchyroll
  • InkyPen

Equally, Nintendo has listed a slew of games that require Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons to be played on Nintendo Switch 2. You can connect the old Joy Con controllers to Switch 2 wirelessly, even if they can't connect to the sides of the console. The list of games that require this method to work on Switch 2 includes:

  • Ring Fit Adventure
  • 1-2 Switch
  • Everybody 1-2 Switch
  • Game Builder Garage
  • Nintendo Switch Sports
  • WarioWare Move It!
  • Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 1, 2 and 3

Some of the above games are shocking additions, but there are also a lot that aren't really that surprising. WarioWare not being usable on Switch 2 is wild for me without using the old Joy-Cons. Is there really that much of a difference?

Outside of Nintendo's own lineup, there are hundreds of partner games that are still having issues with Switch 2 ahead of launch. Most of these issues are being addressed or looked into, and there's a full list of the games having these issues on the Nintendo website. There are some big names on the list, too, like Mega Man, Just Dance, and other huge IPs. So it's worth checking it all out.
