Helldivers goes horror in new co-op roguelike you can try now for free

Helldivers 2 can get pretty scary at times, but it's fundamentally an action-first game. The same could largely be said of its original, top-down progenitor, although the vision-limiting perspective of the first game made it much tougher to know when you were running directly into even more trouble than you were leaving behind. Putting an even more spooky twist on proceedings and reminiscent of Valve classic Alien Swarm is new roguelike game Ammo and Oxygen, and a free demo just launched on Steam.

Masahiro Ito Not Involved in Return to Silent Hill Movie

Artist Masahiro Ito, creator of the design for Pyramid Head in Silent Hill 2, confirmed that he is not involved in the upcoming Return to Silent Hill movie. The artist reiterated on X (formerly Twitter) that he is working in the Silent Hill 2 remake, and shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming live-action movie.

In his original Japanese post, Ito said about Pyramid Head that he is honestly happy that the character he created almost a quarter of a century ago is still around. He also recounted an anecdote in which, at the time of sharing the design with the original Team Silent, their response wasn't good, but the result turned out to be alright in the end.

The posts come as a response to the recent reveal of Pyramid Head's design in the Return to Silent Hill live-action adaptation. Masahiro Ito also said that he had been told that the Return to Silent Hill movie is based on the plot of Silent Hill 2, so it makes sense for Pyramid Head to appear in the movie, even if the story is altered for the live-action.

The Return to Silent Hill movie was greenlit in October 2022, and Konami released a teaser trailer for the announcement. In it, Director Christophe Gans and Producer Victor Hadida explained that the film would be based on the plot of Silent Hill 2.

Return to Silent Hill started filming in April 2023 and it does not have a release date yet. The Silent Hill 2 remake is in development for PC and PS5, and Konami hasn't given a release date.

This will mark the second appearance of the collectible, and there's no word yet on if other characters from the series in the line will return.

The Inuyasha Nendoroid first appeared back in July 2021. The rerelease comes with all of the same items and accessories. So he has smiling, shouting, and shocked faces. He can wield Tessaiga. You can also make it look like he is sitting or performing Reaver Soul Stealer.

Here's a closer look at the figure:

Multiple Inuyasha figures appeared in this line. For example, Inuyasha was followed by Kagome and Kikyo ones. Miroku and Sango ones also showed up. Not to mention someone could buy Sesshoumaru too.

Palworld Joins GeForce Now, Summer Game Fest

Pocketpair made two announcements on social media about Palworld, with one involving a GeForce Now debut and the other a Summer Game Fest 2024 appearance. The former is out now, while the reveal of the latter happens on June 7, 2024.

In terms of the GeForce Now release, it's immediately available. Note that since this is a cloud gaming service, you do need to own a PC copy of Palworld, an account with NVidia, and potentially a paid day pass or subscription if you want longer sessions, no ads, and better servers.

Games are added to GeForce Now at a pretty regular pace. However, it can sometimes take a while before that happens. For example, Honkai: Star Rail debuted launched in April 2023. The GeForce Now version didn't show up until January 2024. So the Palworld GeForce Now release actually happened pretty swiftly, all things considered, due to it only being about four months after its January 2024 early access debut.

As for the Palworld Summer Game Fest 2024 appearance, this could involve some of the promised updates. In April 2024, Pocketpair teased the Pal Arena that would add PvP. That has a Summer 2024 release window, so an exact release date and more details on how it will work could appear.

Palworld is in early access on the PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and it will make a Summer Game Fest appearance on June 7, 2024.

Library of Runia

I always wanted to properly get into deck-building games. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the GameBoy Advance at the tender age of thirteen was my first exposure to this kind of game. I wouldn't run into anything even remotely like it until Slay the Spire burst onto the scene in 2017. However, nothing about Slay the Spire drew me into it. The visuals weren't enticing enough to hold my attention and, despite the deck building aspect being more than proficient (the game is a hit for a reason), I dropped it after clocking in a measly ten hours. When I was asked if I was interested in checking out Library of Runia, I gave the game a quick look and agreed, unaware that I would be spending weeks desperately trying to decipher the complexities of what has become one of the most challenging turn-based RPGs of my life. Honestly, I'm into it.

Library of Runia is a visual novel with deck-building components and all of the bells and whistles associated with turn-based RPGs attached to it. Players follow Roland, a Fixer from The City. He stumbles upon the titular Library and ends up meeting the Head Librarian, an enigmatic woman by the name of Angela. She ends up recruiting him as a member of staff. Through this, he becomes a Librarian, which you think wouldn't be all that exciting. However, in this world knowledge is power. Those that seek out the tomes within this illustrious building must fight the staff in order to obtain the books they desire. That is more or less the premise, which weaves itself into how the game itself is played.

Players can create a team of Librarians, each with a unique set of skills associated with whatever outfit they are wearing at the time. Each Librarian is given a default outfit, which contains a set of cards that will appear in their deck. Initiating combat requires players to offer a book, which then entices combatants to come out. This in turn allows you to take books off of their corpses to obtain more cards and their outfits. It is also how you progress through the story. You can grind stages for multiples of these books to burn, but the game does warn you that you should keep a copy of each, just to have the required offerings on hand to challenge a specific stage.

Now, I had no idea that this was a sequel to Project Moon's Limbus Company. Not having known that and immediately being thrust into the game, I actually advise those looking to play Library of Runia either experience Limbus Company themselves or watch a playthrough. The lore gets confusing and sometimes hard to follow, even if the premise is simple enough. I ended up setting time aside to watch a playthrough of Limbus Company just to get a better grasp of The City and the world in which these games take place while I grinded for more cards and experience, as I was often woefully underprepared for each fight.

As mentioned previously, Library of Runia is a turn-based game. However, there is an extra layer of complexity added onto this that requires some level of resource management. Every card (called "pages") costs a certain amount of Light points. So you don't want to blow all of your Light to take out one enemy if you have several stages ahead of you. Because while you need to factor in the cost of Light, you also have to take into consideration turn order which is determined by Speed Dice. I still don't have an idea of how Speed Dice work. I more or less pick a card and pray that I attack first, killing my enemies before they break my defense, stagger me, and force me to go back and grind.

Attacking isn't the only thing you can do in the game, as playing defensive cards are also an option. You see, each card has several status effects attached to it, some with more offensive capabilities and negative status effects, and others capable of guarding attacks.

This is where you need to be strategic in using your cards. Especially as the game progresses. At first you will fight one round of enemies at a time, picking off two or three combatants before you are given a break to burn books you've acquired from fallen foes to obtain their cards and outfits. But you are quickly thrown into tiered fights, sometimes facing upwards of three waves of enemies with no way to heal or recover what remains of your stamina. Rushing through stages no longer becomes an option. Instead you need to carefully consider what outfit you are equipping your Librarian with, and what cards will accompany that deck. Thankfully you can save builds and swap between them before entering stages very easily. Which is great. Because having to recreate your deck every time you switched out an outfit would be a chore.

It's these little bits of quality of life features that stop Library of Runia from being frustrating to the point of making the player never want to pick the game up ever again. However, I do wish the font was larger, as on the Nintendo Switch it's almost impossible to read any kind of text. This is especially true in handheld mode. I was squinting most of the time as I played the game during commute, and even docking it and projecting the game onto my PC monitor I was having issues reading the text just because of how cramped and small it was. This can be a make or break for some players, and for me it has actively factored into my score. As after a handful of hours with the game my eyes were tired, sore, and bloodshot.

That said, Library of Runia is a fantastic game. The voice acting is top notch, the story is intriguing enough to entice players who otherwise may not be interested in deck building games to give it a shot, and it forces the player to engage with its systems to meet each challenge. However, this means that it won't be for everyone. Those that have gotten tired of fiddling around with the same deck builders for hours on end may find Library of Runia enticing, especially with its heavy emphasis on story. Overall, I had a blast with the game, even if I'm still figuring out just how to optimize my deck some thirty hours in.

Library of Runia is available for PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

XCOM and Marvel's Midnight Suns legend talks taking on The Sims

We regularly experience fantastical stories in the world or videogames - flying to other galaxies, living other lives, killing robots, kissing dragons - but our own lives and the tales that arise from simply living remain relatively unexamined. That's something Jake Solomon, former lead on games like Marvel's Midnight Suns and XCOM: Enemy Unknown, is looking to change.

To combat that, developer Best Way says it's working on several key areas, foremost being the introduction of an offline mode.

If Deadlock is real, the visionary Valve we once knew is gone for good

So right away, this whole argument comes with a big caveat, one that needs to be made clear immediately and up top: despite hints, rumors, speculation, and even some leaked screenshots, there's no saying for sure that Deadlock, supposedly a 6v6 competitive FPS in the vein of Overwatch, really is the next game from Valve. Similarly, we don't know what Deadlock actually plays like or is like - even if it exists. And so, this article continues based on two assumptions. First, Deadlock will be the next game from Valve. Second, it's exactly the kind of game that everything we've seen and heard about it so far would suggest, a hero-based PvP shooter akin to familiar tentpole releases from Blizzard, Riot, and Respawn. What follows are my personal concerns - or rather, disappointments - but also some hopes, if those presumptions turn out to be correct.

Is Assassin's Creed Shadows on Steam?

Is AC Shadows on Steam? The acclaimed stealth RPG series returns with a vengeance, and this time, Ubisoft is pulling out all the stops. The only question is whether this iteration is available on Valve's platform, either now or in the future.

Assassin's Creed Shadows finally takes the franchise to feudal Japan, the most requested period in the action-adventure game series' lifetime. Not only that, we'll also be assuming the role of a real historical figure for the first time: Yasuke, the legendary Black samurai, as he strikes an alliance with ninja shinobi Naoe during the unification of Japan. This latest installment is sure to have fans flocking back to the series, and you might be curious if an Assassin's Creed Shadows Steam version is available.      DBD cross progression and crossplay explained

Does Dead by Daylight have cross progression? There are two main questions players ask when a game is available on multiple platforms: "Can I play with friends on other platforms?" and "Can I access my save data on multiple platforms?" Known as crossplay and cross progression, these are two of the most important online features, especially in multiplayer games.

Dead by Daylight is one such game, and if you have ever seen a single post or livestream from the devs, you'll surely know that the many of the comments, even with no relation to the original post, are about the availability of these features in the horror game. So, we take a look right here at the availability of both DBD cross progression and crossplay.

Skate 4 release date estimate, gameplay, and all the latest news

When is the Skate 4 release date? While we've seen plenty of early footage of Skate 4 already, EA's upcoming Skate revival is a rare case of a triple-A studio showing off very early in-development footage of a game. Though we've seen plenty of Skate 4, we can also clearly see it's not ready yet. It's already been over a decade since the last Skate game, so we can hold on a little longer.

The first Skate was among the most innovative skateboard games around, from its analog control scheme and semi open-world game structure to its more realistic, less edgy representation of the skating scene. The development team behind Skate 3 was disbanded after its release in 2010, and the series' community has been consistently bombarding EA message boards with questions about the series and its potential return ever since. Now, the team is very open about the development process for Skate 4, so here's what we know so far.

It quietly does several things in a modest little way, that are all the more impressive for its lack of fanfare. The core one though, is that it takes the kind of simulationist foundation normally reserved for the punishing Dwarf Fortress derivatives or gnarly logistics games, and builds on them an approachable, gentle, even philosophical game instead. Developers Simogo - of well-deserved Sayonara Wild Hearts and Device 6 acclaim - seem to agree that's a position worth satirising. Lorelei, despite its single-solution puzzles, is not dictatorial. It's far too interested in collaborating with you for that. It wants you to observe, consider, and interpret its many mysteries. What's really hooked me here is how those puzzles are kept coherent and logical, despite you getting delivered a letter by dog and occasionally visiting a floppy disk bizzaro world where you converse with a magician who manifests from his own discarded hat.

I've clocked up nearly 400 hours playing BioWare's big fantasy RPG Dragon Age: Inquisition, which is not a stat I'm particularly proud of. I'm not ashamed either, partly because, as has been identified by artist Corey Brickley, via the Maw, there's a lot of filler. Brickley has collated a list of suggested mods to slim down Dragon Age: Inquisition from a potentially 80 hours-long epic to a trim 40 hour story-focused romp, which means you might be able to play through it again in time for the launch of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - which is a direct sequel to Inquisition.

I find this list of mods interesting! It's a way to change the game quite substantially without exactly transforming it, and it's very in-keeping with my campaign to make games 60% smaller. Still, there's at least one item on there I'd push back on, but also this isn't really a new problem for Dragon Age as a series.

sanrio darkness school delinquent plushes

Taito has added some big Sanrio plushes into its crane games, with the mascots dressed like they're chuuni delinquents. You can also try to pull for these plushes from the Taito's online crane service.

There are four variations of plushes to get: Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Badtz-Maru, and Kuromi. Kuromi and Cinnamoroll are wearing eyepatches and have bandages over a ear. Hello Kitty doesn't have an eyepatch but she's winking. Badtz-Maru has closed both of his eyes, and both he and Hello Kitty have badges around an arm. Badtz-Maru's outfit is the closest to a stereotypical Japanese delinquent, complete with a red shirt and an open gakuran.

These plushes are from Sanrio's Darkness School series. It reimagines the mascots as students living out an extraordinary daily life in a school that has been consumed by darkness. This is a fairly chuuni kind of setting, which explains the bandages around the character.

For those who don't know, chuunibyou or Middle School Syndrome is a term to describe how embarrassing kids around thirteen or fourteen can act. "Symptoms" include convincing others around them that they're smarter than they appear (using terms and words that sound cool but might not be appropriate for daily conversation) or that they have special powers and abilities. People with chuunibyou may see bandages as cool due to characters like Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho) and Dazai (Bungo Stray Dogs) having them.

Hololive CEO Motoaki 'Yagoo' Tanigo Shows Holoearth Avatar Customization

Back in April 2024, Cover promised the 0.7.0 Hololive Holoearth update in May 2024 would add lifestyle updates like avatar customization, and Hololive CEO Motoaki "Yagoo" Tanigo took to social media to show these elements off. He highlighted his avatar, other players' characters, and the customization feature.

The first photo from Tanigo's visit to Alternative City involved a picture of him posing with four other players.

https://twitter.com/tanigox/status/1791337449253396676

In the second picture, the Cover CEO showed what happens after a Hololive Holoearth player heads to the Altermode shop to buy and change the clothing and accessories their avatar wears. While he was wearing a black shirt with the experience's logo and green cargo pants in the first screenshot, he's wearing glasses and a new top, pants, and shoes in the second.

https://twitter.com/tanigox/status/1791340340009697775

The third picture involved another close-up of his character in Holoearth. It allows someone to see the hairstyle, glasses, and shirt option more closely. Following sharing this screenshot, Motoaki Tanigo changed his official social media avatar to it.

https://twitter.com/tanigox/status/1791342100975599645/

Tanigo is often active in promoting Hololive and Holostars events and activities. In addition to typical activities such as sharing social media announcements and attending events, in the past he also served as a model for products.

There's no exact release date for Holoearth yet, however the latest roadmap suggested the full version could end up appearing in May 2025. We do know some combat elements will arrive in 0.8.0, which is expected in June 2024. Then a 0.9.0 update will follow that later in 2024.

The Holoearth Metaverse is in development for PCs, and the beta version is available to download.

Fallout and Fortnite Tease Chapter 5 Season 3 Wrecked

Epic Games is teasing a surprising, timely crossover seemingly coming to Fortnite Battle Royale in the near future. It looks like the two massive franchises Fortnite and Fallout will be coming together for an event, though there is no release window or date for the crossover just yet.

The Fortnite and Fallout tease began with a short tweet from Epic Games with an image. The image appears to showcase one of the Brotherhood of Steel members from the Fallout series, but in the Fortnite style. This looks to be hinting at a likely skin players will be able to get in the near future.

In addition to that, the image showcases a factory-like location of some kind underneath the Brotherhood of Steel member. This spot could be a brand new location in the upcoming Chapter 5 Season 3 Wrecked. As a result, it is possible this upcoming post-apocalyptic-themed season will feature a massive crossover with Fallout.

Here is the official teaser. It also features emojis that recreate the Vault Boy expression of a person winking while giving a thumbs-up sign.

https://twitter.com/fortnitegame/status/1791499072789979575?s=61&t=9YBio6l0V75AlnyR8nX7jQ

This possible Fortnite and Fallout crossover season could feature Wasteland-themed locations from the Bethesda series, plus a Brotherhood of Steel skin possibly in the new Battle Pass. This timing makes a lot of sense, too, with the recent Fallout Prime Video TV series. Fortunately, it won't take long for players to find out if this is the case, since the new season is coming out in the near future.

Fans can look forward to the release of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 Wrecked on May 24, 2024. Fortnite and Fallout fans alike should wait until then for more info on how this teased crossover event will work.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 is coming to Android, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The Quintessential Quintuplets: Memories of a Quintessential Summer and Five Memories Spent With You will be on the PS4, Switch, and PC.

Spike Chunsoft confirmed it will release two The Quintessential Quintuplets dating sim games in English on the PS4, Switch, and PC. The Quintessential Quintuplets: Memories of a Quintessential Summer and The Quintessential Quintuplets: Five Memories Spent With You will both appear on May 23, 2024 and can be purchased alone or in a double-pack.

Both of these dating sim visual novel games pull from the original The Quintessential Quintuplets series, but let you pick which Nakano sister Fuutarou ends up with in the end. Memories of a Quintessential Summer involves a summer trip gone awry due to a storm. It also involves some character development elements, since players help determine the sisters' study schedules to help boost their abilities in certain school subjects. Meanwhile, Five Memories Spent With You involves the five sisters, Fuutarou, and Fuutarou's sister going on a graduation trip together.

Spike Chunsoft already confirmed launch discounts will be in effect for each game and the double-pack between May 23-30, 2024. Alone, each game purchased separately is $34.99. If someone gets the double-pack that includes both games, it will be $59.99.

There's another The Quintessential Quintuplets game on the way, though it is another console adaptation of a puzzle game rather than a more straightforward dating sim like these two. The Quintessential Quintuplets: Gotopazu Story 2ndwill appear in Japan in 2024 on the Switch and PS4.

The Quintessential Quintuplets: Memories of a Quintessential Summer and The Quintessential Quintuplets: Five Memories Spent With You will come to the PS4, Switch, and PC on May 23, 2024, and both are already available in Japan. The anime is on Crunchyroll, and Kodansha handles the manga.

Visual Novel Kanon coming to Steam with English subtitle support

Visual Arts and Prototype announced that they will release the classic PC visual novel Kanon on Steam. The Japanese companies have also published a Steam page for the title.

The visual novel will be available with Japanese voiceovers and subtitles in Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese. The Steam version will feature HD-remastered visuals with an almost complete voiceover. Most of the title's original voice actresses, such as Yui Horie (as Ayu Tsukimiya) and Yukari Tamura (as Mai Kawasumi), will reprise their roles. Meanwhile, Tomokazu Sugita will provide partial voiceovers for the player-controlled protagonist Yuichi Aizawa.

The Steam release does not mean it's the first time Kanon appears on PC. In fact, PC was the very first platform the visual novel appeared on, since the times when physical disc drives were still commonplace. Visual Arts first released Kanon as an R-18 title in June 1999. It then released the all-ages version for PC in January 2020, which also serves as a basis for all ports to other platforms.

Outside of PC, the visual novel was also released for the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. It has also since been made available for Android and iOS mobile devices in Japan. In April 2023, Prototype released the Nintendo Switch port of Kanon.

The visual novel Kanon is readily available on Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS as ongoing platforms, and it will also be available on the PC via Steam in the near future.

dan heng imbibitor lunae honkai star rail statue

Bucket and Shovel have opened up pre-orders for a resin statue of Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae from Honkai: Star Rail. The figure costs $60 to pre-order and will ship out in Q4 2024, and there is a limited (188) supply.

The statue is a 1/6 figure, and it'll come with a base as well. It depicts him in his Imbibitor Lunae form while holding Cloud-Piercer. The stand is a lotus and he has the Long-like dragon he creates surrounding him. The $60 is the pre-order price and the statue itself is much more expensive. It costs $499.86 for the standard version, which is what you see below. There is also a "nude" variant for $171.43. There is no prototype yet but we can see from the art that it shows what Dan Heng might have looked like during his time in the Shackling Prison.

There are instructions on the website as to how to pre-order and purchase the statue. Bucket and Shovel does not offer refunds. However, there is a replacement service should you received a damaged statue.

Though not from YY Studio, Bucket and Shovel has other Honkai: Star Rail figures for sale as well. There is an Acheron resin statue from Jigenworld and a Robin resin statue from LoveHolic Studio. As a reminder, these are not official pieces of merchandise from HoYoVerse.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.

Toby Fox Amane Kanata

Undertale and Deltarune creator Toby Fox commented on his collaboration with Hololive Vtuber Amane Kanata on the song "Fallen Wing," which also is being produced by Camellia. The comment came as part of a mini-newsletter sent out to those on the Undertale and Deltarune mailing list.

Deltarune creator Fox began by describing how he watched Kanata's streamed playthrough of Undertale, and stated that he was moved by her reaction to the Pacifist ending of the game, which led him to reach out to Kanata about a collaboration. Here is the full statement:

I always liked her singing voice, I found it to be very distinct and kind of personal sounding. Combined with her Angel aesthetic, I felt I had the potential to make a really cool song with her… So, I asked her… And… It happened!

He went on to describe how seeing her struggle with hearing loss while pursuing music resonated with him, as he himself suffers from wrist issues that prevent him from working on his own projects. He also praised producer Camellia's arrangement for the song and linked to an instrumental sample.

You can read the full mini-newsletter here, and listen to the song in question below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb-Le_XFrtk

Amane Kanata also appears in the Magical Girl holoWitches project revealed by Cover and Hololive earlier in May 2024. Toby Fox, meanwhile, also released an update newsletter back in February 2024 that offered an update on the development of Deltarune's Chapter 3.

Unknown Diva, featuring the song "Fallen Wing" by Amane Kanata with Toby Fox and Camellia, is available now via Spotify, Youtube Music, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Itunes, and the Hololive official shop.
